RWBY 40k fanfiction – Salem, mistress of Inquisition.

Intermission 2: The Childhood of the little niece.

836.M31.

Macragge Civitas. A few months before the Emperor's arrival.

Roboute Guilliman was dressed in black was accompanied by Tarasha also dressed in black.

In his arms was little Kariady, a few days old.

Ahead were the priests and virgin nuns before a large pyre.

Pyre in which lay the lifeless body of Kalidi, dressed in white.

The high priest took some wet maple leaves and then carried them in front of Kalidi.

High Priest: "Gods of Macragge! Welcome this young soul into your garden to be happy forever."

He shook the maple leaves three times and a nun arrived with a lighted torch and lit the pyre at the level of the straw.

The pyre ends up catching fire everywhere and the body of the lover of the king of Ultramar disappears in the fire.

Roboute Guilliman: "Here, it's done... Why did she have to die?"

Tarasha: "The world is cursed. Don't worry my boy. I will take good care of Kariady like the grandmother that I am."

Some months later...

Salem is with Tarasha.

She held Kariady in her arms, who was now almost a year old.

Salem: "Kariady. How do you see your grandma? Are you happy?"

Kariady stared with her small green eyes.

Finally, she stammered and held out her arms to Salem.

Salem: "You're touching me, aren't you?"

Tarasha: "Kariady loves doing this."

Salem brought Kariady close to his face, the little baby reached out his hands and clapped them on the face of the Witch of Terra.

Salem: "Thank you my little Kariady."

Kariady: "You Welcome... Grandmother..."

Salem: "Wait. You talked to me? When you're not even a year old?"

Tarasha: "It's not the first time. She said her first word at two months."

Salem: "Like what. She's going to be a real genius like her father."

Tarasha: "I can tell you."

Salem returned Kariady to her original position between her arms.

In the years that followed, Kariady learned to walk and speak properly.

Salem when she had time, visited her granddaughter and took care of her with all the love of a grandmother.

Kariady was now 4 years old, her little blond hair falling behind her neck. She wore a little blue dress with the symbol of Ultramar surmounted by the double-headed eagle of the Imperium.

That day, she met her uncles Horus Lupercal, Leman Russ, Fulgrim and Vulkan who come to give her gifts.

Horus: "So it's you Kariady?"

Kariady: "Yes, hello my uncles."

She bowed and lifted her dress respectfully.

Fulgrim: "A true princess. Purity and perfection incarnate. Roboute Guilliman took good care of you."

Kariady: "Thank you uncle."

Vulkan then showed a velvet box which he opened.

Inside was an adornment with three gems. A red in the center, a blue on the right and a green on the left. It was very simple but its construction and decoration left no imperfection.

Fulgrim: "Since when are you a jeweler, Vulkan?"

Vulkan: "It's a present for my little niece."

Kariady: "Thank you Uncle Vulkan!"

She took the adornment and put it around her neck.

Kariady: "How am I?"

Horus Lupercal: "It suits you well."

Leman Russ: "Is that all you have to offer? I have much better."

He took out of a box a fur coat made of bear hair.

Leman Russ: "Good Fenris bear fur. It'll keep you warm even on the frostiest planets, like Inwit."

Kariady: "Uncle Russ, I don't like you making fun of Inwit. If Uncle Rogal Dorn saw you, he'd be annoyed."

Leman Russ: "Anyway, why just ask for warriors when he has every right to conquer planets in his name. Like me and your other uncles do? What a sissy..."

The other Primarchs looked at Leman in disappointment as Kariady retrieved the cloak.

Horus Lupercal approached Kariady and gave him a book. A book of astrology.

Horus Lupercal: "For you. You will know the stars of the Galaxy."

Kariady: "Thank you..."

Fulgrim approached Kariady and gave him a small sword.

Kariady: "A sword?"

Fulgrim: "You should start learning combat. Know this, I think your father should teach you more about physical combat in addition to art and the art of government. Thus, perfection t' will reach. Without forgetting the magic..."

Kariady: "Don't criticize my father. He knows what he has to do. Fighting and magic are clearly not my strongest qualities."

Fulgrim: "You are very naive. Perfection must be achieved everywhere. When your father entrusts you to me if he wishes. I could teach you two or three things."

Horus Lupercal: "We understand Fulgrim. But for the moment she is too small."

It was then that Roboute Guilliman arrived.

Roboute Guilliman: "I finished my meeting. How was your meeting with your uncles?"

Kariady: "Really good. They gave me some nice presents. Like this finery I'm wearing."

Roboute Guilliman: "I see... Your Seneschal is waiting for you."

Kariady: "Of course father..."

Roboute Guilliman: "The maids will carry your things to your room."

The princess left the room and Roboute Guilliman's expression of gentleness turned into a cold look towards her brothers.

Roboute Guilliman: "What did I say? A single gift was enough."

Fulgrim: "That's nonsense! She's my niece just like Horus, Vulkan and Leman Russ. We have the right to give her our own gift."

Roboute Guilliman: "Certainly, but I try to make her a respectable princess. Not an extremely spoiled rotten girl."

Vulkan: "It's nothing Roboute. It's his birthday. There's nothing to worry about. We all know."

Roboute Guilliman: "Yes but no. I don't want that anymore. Tell that to Kira, Rogal and Ferrus if they're going to send anything to my daughter. Besides, mother approved of my upbringing."

Aside from Horus, the Primarchs were amazed.

Fulgrim: "I didn't expect it..."

Horus: "I expected it anyway. When I started growing up. Mother gave me presents only when I really deserved them. According to her, being spoiled is the worst thing that can happen to a child because he will believe that he is the king of everything and his decisions will all be disastrous and far-reaching."

Fulgrim: "I wonder what the motivation of mother is behind your upbringing, Horus. Because I feel like it's deeper than you think."

Horus: "You'll have to convince me with proof..."

Roboute Guilliman: "In any case... You should return to your Crusades."

Fulgrim: "I know. Your little Kariady won't be the only one in the family anyway."

Fulgrim says this as he leaves.

Horus: "What do you mean?"

Fulgrim: "Let's say I married a Venus and a new soul will be born on Chemos if luck smiles on me."

He left the room, leaving his brothers there.

Roboute Guilliman: "I think we're going to have a nephew or a niece."

For the next few years.

Kariady continued to grow and became ever more beautiful with each passing year.

His green eyes were full of light and benevolence. Her blonde hair shone like the sun and fell behind her back.

She got to know Rogal Dorn who gave her an architecture book.

Ferrus Manus gave her a large diadem in the shape of the sign of Ultramar.

Kira Saito gave him a mobile suit called "Prosperitymar", a mobile suit based on the model of Infinite Justice.

He also taught her to fly with her in case she needed it.

Magnus had no time to meet her, nor Sanguinius.

But she meets on this day of 847.M30 another of her uncles who has just been repatriated: Lion El'Jonson. She is now 11 years old and have a height of one meter sixty in height.

Lion was facing his niece and bowed to her.

Lion El'Jonson: "I am very happy to meet you dear niece."

He kissed her hand. Kariady chuckled.

Kariady: "I see you have learned gallantry, Uncle Lion El'Jonson."

He stood up and the Princess of Ultramar accompanied him to her quarters.

They arrived in the living room. Lion sits in front of his niece.

Lion: "I wonder a lot about you."

Kariady: "Go ahead."

Lion: "I wonder if you'll grow any further. You're quite tall for a girl your age."

Kariady: "It all comes from grandfather and father. You always inherit a bit from your ancestor."

Lion: "I see. I'm also asking when are you going to have a role in Ultramar?"

Kariady: "When I come of age. I'm still too young."

Lion: "Yet I feel like I'm facing a woman who already knows a lot about the world. You have the spirit of a dean."

Kariady: "I am often told... But I am still too young. Many nobles in Ultramar still consider me too small. I don't see why I would blame them."

Lion: "I see... Roboute Guilliman taught you really well."

Kariady: "Did you want something else from me?"

Lion El'Jonson took a small box out of his armor and gave it to his niece.

She opened it and discovered a small platinum ring.

Lion: "For your eleventh birthday even though I couldn't attend your birthday."

Kariady: "It's nothing. It's gorgeous."

She put it on her finger.

Thus ends the encounter with Lion El'Jonson.

Three years later, Kariady met Perturabo, her new uncle but also her aunt by adoption, Calliphone.

The 14-year-old reached an adult height of six feet and still looks as good as ever.

But the meeting will turn out to be very complicated...

Perturabo: "So that's my niece."

Kariady: "Nice to meet you Uncle Perturabo."

Perturabo resumed impassively.

Perturabo: "Never mind... I haven't brought anything for you. My presence will have to be enough for you, whether you like it or not."

The young princess was quite surprised by Perturabo's words.

Kariady: "But that's not a problem uncle. Know what matters to me, so that I can meet my family."

Calliphone: "Bo, make an effort, she's your niece as far as I know. As well as I'm an aunt now."

Disturbo: "..."

Kariady: "By the way, Uncle. How far along are you in learning magic?"

Calliphone: "Know young princess that the 4th Legion will soon be an unstoppable force. A strategist like Bo will defeat enemy armies like your father."

Perturabo: "I have a question for you, Kariady. Are you a believer?"

Kariady: "Compared to what?"

Perturabo: "To the supposed twin gods that mother speaks of so often?"

Kariady: "Grandmother told me about it when I was little. What I have to say is that I am quite ready to believe because magic is present in the Ultramarines and my father."

Perturabo: "I don't..."

Kariady: "Why?"

Perturabo: "No entity in this universe can claim to be a god. What I can say about it, whatever the reason for my mother's departure from the world of Remnant. I think these gods sickened her to restrict her power and joined the Emperor."

Kariady: "Hm...you are being deceitful. Grandmother never spoke of the gods like that."

Perturabo: "I'm waiting to see the real version. For the moment, she has told us almost nothing about her previous life."

Kariady: "It's to see my dear uncle."

In the year 853.M30, aged 17. Kariady celebrates his majority. She has become a very tall and very beautiful young woman. It is almost 2 meters high.

She thus meets for the first time her uncle Magnus the Red who has returned from the Crusade.

Magnus: "So you're Roboute's daughter?"

Kariady: "That's it. Welcome to Macragge, Uncle Magnus."

Magnus: "Nothing, I could teach you the basics of magic. I'm by far the best at it."

Kariady: "I know, father and grandmother spoke to me with great esteem."

Magnus: "Do you want me to teach you?"

Kariady: "Alas, I won't have time. Soon, I'll be going on a Crusade with Father. I'm of age now. Father told me it was time for me to learn how to lead an army on my own. "

Magnus: "Oh... too bad."

Kariady: "But that's no problem. I could learn from you when I visit you on Prospero."

Magnus: "I hope so... Other than that. I have something for you."

He gave a magnifying glass with the symbols of the four seasons of Remnant.

Kariady: "What is it?"

Magnus: "The monocle of truth. It reveals before the eyes the hidden truths of the world. Both materially and spiritually. But unfortunately I have only been able to make some so far. Look through and you will see things hidden in the scenery but also in people's minds."

Kariady: "Thank you. But this object can be useful to you against your enemies. You could have kept it."

Magnus: "I don't need it. I can sense the intentions of people and things. Better give it to the radiant princess of Macragge."

Kariady: "Thank you uncle."

Kariady: "It could serve me well one of these days..."

Magnus: "I'm sure of it. You'll see the truth from this glass."

Kariady: "All that's left is to meet my grandfather and uncle Sanguinius."
