Chapter 22
The next morning, Kagome decides to leave Moroha at her mother's house so that she and Inuyasha can get things straighten out with Dr. Jurino. It does take long to get to the hospital from the Higurashi shrine. "Just remember to behave, Inuyasha. I don't want to get this nasty." Kagome warns him as they enter the main lobby. "Excuse me." Kagome comes up to the front desk to see one of the workers looking up from her work on the computer.
"Can I help you?" She asks politely.
"I was wondering if Dr. Jurino is available?" Kagome asks back. The worker looks down to her computer to see if the doctor is free. "It looks like she's with another patient, but she should be available to see you in the next fifteen minutes. If you want to wait till then." The worker said to her.
"We can wait." Kagome smiles before turning around to see Inuyasha is already sitting in one of the lounge chairs looking through his phone. "I hate waiting." He complains the moment Kagome sat down next to him. She sighs. "I know how impatient you are. But we can't just go barging into the room where she's in and tell her what happened to Moroha." She reasons to him.
Kagome goes through her phone as well to see if anything interesting is getting her attention. She doesn't see anything worth watching or reading. So instead she just plays one of her games on the phone to pass the time. She's mainly a puzzle solver. She likes to figure out the smallest details that are amiss.
"Ma'am." The worker walks up to them. Kagome and Inuyasha look up to see her. "The doctor is ready to see you." She tells them. Inuyasha and Kagome know which room is the office. They make their way to the elevator and press the up button. The doors open to let them on. Inuyasha presses the fifth floor. They get off to see Dr. Jurino waiting from them by the elevator they got off.
"Thank you for waiting. What can I help you with?" Dr. Jurino greets them. Kagome pulls out the bottle that had the medicine for Moroha. "Dr. Jurino we need to ask if you were aware about this pill's side effects?" Kagome hands over the bottle.
Dr. Jurino puts on her glasses to see that the bottle has a small fine print. "No. Not to mention these pills are not what I subscribed to your daughter." She hands it the bottle back. "What happened?"
Inuyasha steps a few inches. "The first night, Moroha seemed fine. Nothing happened as of yet. But then when we left her at my brother's house, my nieces were playing with her until somehow, Moroha's demon blood went out of control." He explains as he shows the footage from the security camera he has access to.
Just seeing that made Dr. Jurino very nervous. "I can assure that the pills I subscribe would never have this. Tell me what the pills are in that bottle. Kagome pulls out a pill so that Dr. Jurino can look at it closely. "Ok. This here is not the pill. This is for half-demons. No offense to you. This is the pill I subscribed." She pulls out her phone and shows them what the correct pill looks like. The pill is completely different. The current pills are white and in a shape of an oval.
The correct pills is blue and is a rectangle with round ends. "I need to contact the pharmacy that I sent the script. Maybe someone there mixed up the order thus giving your daughter the wrong ones instead of this on." She dials the number to the pharmacy that Kagome knows because she has to get her grandfather's pills from time to time. "Please excuse me." Dr. Jurino dismissed herself to go to her office.
Being an agent has their advantages. Especially Inuyasha's high keen of hearing. "I can tell that she was lying through her teeth." Inuyasha said while crossing his arms. "How?" Kagome asks him curiously. "Well for starters, she didn't seem too bother about the mistake of the pills. The pharmacy you go to get your grandfather's pills, the workers know their clients well."
Kagome nods silently.
"I think that someone there is an associate, trying to put the wrong pills in instead of the ones that Dr. Jurino subscribed." Inuyasha adds in. Kagome holds her chin. "If that's true. But who would do it though?" Inuyasha pulls out his phone and goes through the surveillance system at the pharmacy. He streams at the moment where the pharmacy received the order and begins to prepare the order for Moroha.
He zooms in to see something one the computer's monitor. "There." He points to the spot. Kagome looks over his shoulder to see it as well. "It's a different pill. She must've lied to us when she said that she was certain that the subscription she gave us was a fake. Kagome has the slip. She reads the details of the pill on the slip and the other one on the monitor. "She tried to kill our baby." Kagome said will shaking.
"Sorry it took so long." Dr. Jurino comes out of her office. "I made sure that the pharmacy has the right order for your daughter." She said to them. She then sees that Kagome is shaking. "Higurashi. Are you ok?" She comes to her, but Inuyasha gets in her way. "Not for what we found out." He said her with a stern voice.
"What are you talking about? What's going on?" Dr. Jurino is completely confused at this point. "You should know that we're agents." He pulls out his badge. Dr. Jurino doesn't seem surprised. "Why exactly are you here?" She rather asks them.
"I was able to hear you through the doors, tell the pharmacy about the subscription. The slip you gave us wasn't the right one to begin with. You told the workers to subscribe a completely different pill that would harm my daughter instead of treating her." Inuyasha explains to her.
"Are you accusing me for attempted murder?" Dr. Jurino asks him.
"Maybe. As such we have to take you into custody." Inuyasha pulls out his handcuffs and chains the doctor's hands behind her back. Soon enough, the elevator doors open and Riku comes out. "Riku?" Kagome asks confused.
"I was tasked to escort Dr. Jurino to the precinct." Riku explains himself as he takes the doctor away. As soon as Riku leaves, Kagome drops to her knees. "Kagome." Inuyasha knees down beside. "How could we be so foolish?" She murmurs as she is still shaken. Inuyasha pulls her into his arms. "We didn't know. From now on we need to be with Moroha at all times." He sooths her.
Back at the Higurashi Shrine, Moroha is working on her drawing. "What are drawing, sweetie?" Ai asks her granddaughter as she sits next to her on the table. From the way that Moroha is drawing, it's herself but somehow there's something different. "I'm trying to think what I looked like when I transformed." Moroha answers while still focusing on the task.
Ai was informed about Moroha transforming when they swung by to drop off Moroha. "Oh. Do you remember anything about it?" Ai questions her curiously. Moroha shakes her head. "I don't have the slightest idea. All I can think about is that there's something inside me that wants to take over my body." She explains from her perspective.
Ai knows for sure that Inuyasha's a half demon and knows that whenever a half demon is in danger, the demon half surfaces in order to protect itself. Inuyasha is able to control that with a sword his father made for him. And then she noticed the new bracelet on Moroha's wrist.
"That's really pretty, Moroha." Ai smiles. Moroha looks down to her wrist. "Thank you. Mommy made this for me. She said that this will keep the demon soul under control as long as I'm wearing." She said to Ai.
"Do you think I could help you out with your drawing?" Ai asks she grabs a blank sheet of paper. Moroha nods. "I think I'm feeling artistic today." She giggles and begins drawing like Moroha. Moroha doesn't mind her one bit. Even if the drawings are the same, Kagome once told Moroha to accept their creativity.
From what Ai was able to draw was almost breathtaking. From the details of Moroha's face shape so far. "Grammy. If I were to be a demon again, what would I look like?" Moroha asks her curiously. Ai takes a second to think about that question. She begins with the eyes. "Well for your transformation. Your eyes would be crimson red with golden irises." She draws the features. Moroha is in awe. "What about my claws and fangs?"
Ai goes down to the lips. "I think that your fangs would grow longer and possibly go over your lower lips like this." She demonstrates the features. Moroha nods. "And for your claws would grow longer and much sharper." Ai draws the details of Moroha's hands with the demonic feature. "And your beautiful black hair would be very long and silver like your father." Moroha looks down to her bracelet.
"So if I transform again, I would look like that?" She asks nervously. Ai nod. "I think so. Your mommy and daddy told me what happened. I know I'm not as strong as your father, but I'll do whatever I can to protect you from anything that might harm you." Ai takes her shoulder. Moroha jumps up and hugs her.
"Mom!" Kagome calls out as she and Inuyasha enter the house. "Mommy! Daddy!" Moroha runs up to Kagome who is kneeling down to the child's level. "Hey there, little princess. What are you doing?" Kagome hugs her. "Grammy and I were drawing." Moroha answers. Inuyasha seems intrigued. "Is that so? Is it ok that you mom and I see it?"
Moroha jumps down and grabs Inuyasha's hand and takes them to the living room where Ai is waiting for them patiently. "How was the visit?" Ai asks Kagome. "It went well. We got our answers." Kagome answers rather vaguely since she doesn't want to tell the missing details about Dr. Jurino being arrested. It'd be too much for Moroha's sensitive hearing. Kagome looks down at the table to see that her mother drew almost identical to Moroha's picture.
"Wow, mom. This is something." Kagome said as she picks up the drawing. Inuyasha looks at it too. "No doubt. You really did a lot of work on this? Did you go to art school?" He asks her as well.
Ai feels embarrassed about that but decides to answer. "I did during my college days. The teachers said I was a natural for my work." Kagome giggles. "Anyway, for this, it would appear that you managed to get the details spot on." She comments nicely. "Tell me, did Moroha ask anything while she transformed?" She gives the drawing back to Ai.
Moroha looks down in a shameful look. "I did. I want to know what I would look like if I transformed again." Kagome ahs to the realization. "Moroha, there's nothing to be sorry about. If anyone were to be sorry is the doctor we went to see today." She sits down and places her daughter on her lap.
"But why would Dr. Jurino have to say sorry to me? What did she do." Moroha tilts her head to look at Kagome. "You see the doctor did something terrible. Remember the pills that you were supposed to take." Moroha nods. "Those pills did a bad thing to you. It awakened your demon blood and that's why you transformed after a few hours. You only took one, so we had to let the doctor know that she made a mistake." Inuyasha sat down next to them.
"But I thought that those pills were supposed to help me get better, not worst." Moroha said to him. "We didn't know until the transformation. We had to get the doctor to answer some questions from work." Kagome explains to her.
"So will I have to keep taking those pills?" Moroha asks them worryingly. Those pills are going to be evidence for investigation. No more pills for my kiddo." Inuyasha rubs her head. Moroha knows how her parents do their work. "So is Dr. Jurino in trouble because of what happened?" She asks him.
"Yes. We cannot have someone like put you in danger. As such she's being punished." Kagome winks in the end. "Alright. We need to go home. Thanks for looking after Moroha." Kagome stands up with Moroha in her arms.
"It was good seeing you too. Take care." Ai hugs the girls and Inuyasha as they leave the shrine. It doesn't take long for them to get back home. They pull in and can see that Riku's car is parked on the curb of the street their house is on. "I wonder what he's doing here?" Kagome asks as she gets Moroha out of her car seat in the back.
"I'll go." Inuyasha offers and meets Riku at the back door. "I'm glad you made it home. Here's something that is vital to your case." Inuyasha sees that he has a flash drive. "Ok. Me and Kagome will look through this after we put Moroha down for her nap." He gladly takes the flash drive. "I'm curious, why would you give me this via through a flash drive instead of an email?"
"I'm quite cautious about sending over data because there are hackers would be able to intercept it." Riku explains himself. "Very well. See you later." Inuyasha waves goodbye as Riku gets back into his car and drives off. He looks carefully at the item. "Only one step closer to solve this case." He said to himself before going inside.
