Author's note: Hello there! (insert obi wan meme). And welcome to my first fanfiction. First of all, thank you for the subscriptions and reviews. It motivates me as well as it pushes me, to do better. As you may have noticed the first chapter was long. But I felt like, this was the right way, because there was so much stuff to introduce Peter to. I wanted Peter to interact with the world, at first hand. There are other stories, where they go the simpler route which isn't bad, but a bit boring.
As for ships, I don't have anything against it and I had Akame in mind, because she could benefit from Peter as their history is constrasting. She would see Peter as the light in her life that she needs and help him on his journey. That's just a thought though. Let me know what you guys think. However, I can assure you with abundant certainty that there will be no harems. I find the concept ridiculous and it wouldn't be any good for the story either.
The difficulty in the story is going to be to fit in Peter's shoes and predict, what he would do. Also this story has slight canon divergence and why wouldn't it be?Obviously, Peter's presence in the universe is going to have an impact, so be ready for it. Oh and one last thing, I know it seemed like Peter was kinda OP in the last chapter, but the thing is he is just stronger. Peter is that guy you know. He is perfectly balanced though as Thanos would say, since he is not overly stronger. If I put a guy like invincible in the universe he would solo the world in a day, Peter can't. Either way, this story is meant to be a mental and moral challenge for Peter, not particularly a physical one. But that's enough chatting here is the new chapter!
Tatsumi sat on a cliff, his former best friends in front of him, he faced them with a sorrowful expression. Wind brushed his hair, tears dwelled in his eyes. He didn't expect they would meet up again like this. They had a dream, a dream they wanted to fulfill together, but now he was all alone. Sayo, Ieyasu what am I supposed to do without you? I am lost. I can't do this without you both, you left too soon..
Immersed in thoughts, he was unaware of a busty blond woman sneaking behind him. Two heavy objects were placed on top of his head, his eyes squinted at the unexpected weight. Startled by the contact of Leone's cleavage, he drew back, a red tone covering his face. His hands wildly motioned, forming an X sign,
"Don't sneak up on me, like that!"
Leone grinned and ignored his demand, "Have you made up your mind to join us?"
"I said, I don't kn-," Leone pushed his face onto her breasts. Tatsumi blushed again,
"Like I said, honey! I think you got what it takes to be a killer!"
A contemplative look appeared on Tatsumi's face, "It's not about my abilities... it's about the killing."
Leone smirked at him. She couldn't force the boy to join their cause, but introducing him to her teammates could be a good step to convince him. They were a likable crew, a weird one, but cool.
Her arm wrapped around Tatsumi's head, "Come on! I'll introduce you to your new teammates," dragging him to the hideout.
Tatsumi and Leone were in front of the Purple-haired lady, she sat on a chair with a book in her hands. Bandages were around her left arm.
"He still doesn't know, if he wants to join us," she said quite surprised about Tatsumi's indecisiveness.
"Yes, Sheele. Do you have any words of encouragement for him?" Leone nudged Tatsumi's shoulder.
Sheele put her index finger on the chin, "Mmmh you know where our hideout is located, so we would have to kill you if you don't join us."
Yes... these are indeed words of encouragement. Sweat covered Tatsumi's face.
"Is your arm okay, Sheele?" Leone asked.
She circled her injured arm, "Yes, it's okay. It's just a bruise, but we are not sure if the bone is fractured, therefore we put bandages on, to be sure you know. That guy is strong, I am sure he told me his name... but I forgot," she looked to the ceiling, a pensive stare on her face.
Tatsumi was in disbelief, this woman wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. He read the title of the book, she was holding "100 Ways to Stop Being an Airhead" Oh man I'm surrounded by freaks.
A screeching shout resounded behind Tatsumi, "Ahhhhh Leone," she pointed her finger to Tatsumi, "What is he doing in our hideout?"
"He belongs to us now, Mine," Leone said.
"I have to decide that!" Mine strode to Tatsumi. She stared him down, like a boxer who stared at his opponent. He stiffened, unable to figure out what she was doing.
She turned her body, crossing her arms, "You failed. There is a lack of professional aura that we all have. Even, your face doesn't fit," a smug smile became visible.
"What did you say?" Tatsumi gritted his teeth, while his hand transformed into a fist.
"Don't worry Tatsumi. Mine behaves like that to everyone," Leone reassured.
Footsteps echoed as a new figure stepped inside the room. Everyone directed their gaze to the intruder. He rubbed his eyes and yawned,
"Morning..." he sat down on a chair, his arms resting on the table, his head fell into his arms.
"Good morning Peter! What's wrong? Still sleepy?" Leone asked.
"Yes..."
"But you slept like 12 hours," Tatsumi said.
Peter lifted his head, "Yeah, but remember the first time we met?" Tatsumi nodded, "The night before was the last time I slept, and even then, I only dozed off for a few hours."
Tatsumi's jaw dropped, "You haven't slept for two days?"
"Three days actually."
"Hey, newbie!"
Peter looked over to Mine, "You mean me?" his finger pointed towards him.
"Of course you! Are you the one who injured Sheele's arm?"
Peter changed his view of Sheele, particularly her arm. It wasn't Peter's intention to seriously hurt her, but she tried to kill him, so he thought all was fair, she also killed a person. Stopping her was the right thing to do.
"Yes, I guess I did, why?"
"Well, I want you to apologize. It's the right thing to do. After we brought you here and sheltered you."
"I am thankful for that, but I am not going to apologize."
"What..."
"Oh, I sai-"
"I heard that you ungrateful pig!" Mine smashed her fist on the table.
The tension was palpable, everyone in the room followed the conversation in complete silence. You could hear a needle falling to the ground.
"Hey, Chill out! I know this might offend you, howe- "
"I am not going to," she put her two fingers up and down, mocking him, "chill out! You hurt my friend, the least you can do is apologize."
"Look... I was trying to protect myself. You are blowing this way out of proportion." Peter attempted to calm her down.
Mine raced towards him. They were eye-to-eye, "Listen here newbie, have some common decency and apologize now, or I'll make you."
Peter shifted his glare to the others, pleading them for some kind of interjection. Luckily for him, Sheele decided to step in,
"Now, now. This isn't supposed to be the first interaction between future comrades. Please calm down," she put her hands on their chests.
"I am calm, she needs to take a breath."
Sheele turned attention to mine, "Mine, it's fine, I am okay. I don't need an apology from Peter he could have killed me, but he didn't."
Mine continued to stare at Peter, not done with him. Leone took hold of Peter's arm.
"How about I show Peter and Tatsumi around and we will handle this another time, okay?"
They left the room, leaving a pissed-off Mine behind.
"Here's our training ground, where we relieve ourselves, The guy who sweats like a pig, is Bulat."
Tatsumi and Peter watched a big, muscular man, swinging a stick with ferociousness, but also precision. Bulat ended his training with a colossal swing. A shock wave hit the audience and Tatsumi was in awe.
Bulat faced them with a smile, "Hey you are the guys from last night."
Peter was desperate to hold his laughter. What kind of hairstyle is this? Should it resemble a heart? Oh my god, this is too funny! And they make fun of my suit. A quick snort escaped Peter's mouth, his hand tried to cover his mouth, but it didn't go unnoticed by Leone.
"What's wrong Peter?"
Peter cleared his throat, "No-Nothing Leone, just a little cough."
"Have we met before?" Tatsumi asked Bulat.
"It's the first time, we meet like this. I was the guy, covered in armor."
Tatsumi let out a gasped. Peter was in disbelief. That's the man he fought last night. He was strong, so it's all the more surprising, that he looks like a guy from a gay porn magazine. Not that he ever possessed one, that would be weird... He should have never judged a book by its cover.
"My name is Bulat," he shook Tatsumi's and Peter's hands.
"Bulat is gay," Leone added.
Tatsumi recoiled and Bulat blushed,
"Don't give him any wrong ideas.~"
Sometimes sayings are false, like in this case, unfortunately.
"Your name is Peter right?" Bulat said.
"Yes."
"You were amazing last night, you are stronger than you look."
Leone blinked, "You two fought?"
"Yeah, and if hadn't had any armor, maybe a rib or two would be broken."
Leone and Tatsumi were astonished, by the news and looked to Peter, he just shrugged his shoulders.
"Hehehe, Leone should be bathing in any minute now. I would do everything to see her melons!"
"Yeah? Then give me two fingers," Leone twisted the fingers of the green-haired boy and pushed him down with her foot. He let out a scream of pain.
"You never learn. Do you?"
"I will never give up!" He said.
Leone turned her body to Peter and Tatsumi who watched the scene with bemusement and confusion.
"This pervert right here is Lubbock."
The sunset slowly became visible. They were walking alongside a river, stones were crackling under their boots each time they made a step forward. Peter admitted it was a fascinating view. This world was aesthetically more appealing. Yes, they didn't have any advanced technology or tall buildings, but it wasn't needed at all.
Mother Nature provided something soothing and natural, to his primal instincts. The sound of the water flowing calmed Peter down. Why couldn't it stay like this? Peter considered in what position, he found himself to be in.
He was in a hideout full of killers. They had the upper hand against him and whatever they wanted from him it couldn't be something good. His gaze shifted to Leone and Tatsumi.
Peter wondered how these two knew each other prior to last night, so he asked them. Their reactions couldn't be more different. Tatsumi's face went red and Leone had a devious smile while biting her bottom lip.
It was revealed that Leone took Tatsumi's money, because she promised him a quick climb in the military ranks. Of course, she was lying through her teeth. Tatsumi waited for her for hours, but she never came back. In conclusion, Leone scammed Tatsumi, although Leone denied calling it like that. Peter also deduced that Leone paid for his dinner since she had so much money left from Tatsumi. The more Peter knew about the woman, the lesser he thought of her.
"But it wasn't the only reason, Peter. You had this weird smell, that I couldn't wrap my head around, so I had to find out more."
"Interesting, Do I smell nice?"
"No, I wouldn't say that."
"Oh, man..."
"Anyway, now to the last member."
Tatsumi's deafeted sigh reached Peter's ears, "Tatsumi and I got enough, Leone."
"Don't worry guys, the last one is a gorgeous girl."
A long black-haired curtain sat in front of a fire. A certain scent flowed through Peter's nostrils. There was a big fish impaled on top of the fire. Peter was stunned at the size of the fish. Everything seemed to be bigger in this world. Famines wouldn't have been a problem in his world if animals were this big.
No way, that's Rapunzel! She is eating all of that by herself! Holy smokes, she must have a black hole in her stomach, maybe that's the reason for her emotionless attitude and her dark aura. Black holes suck in light, after all. And gorgeous? Probably? Maybe? I don't know. She turned from her seat, just enough to see them. Her mouth was stuffed with fish.
Tatsumi widened his eyes, "Is that an evil bird? Did she catch that all by herself?"
"Akame grew up in the wild, Tatsumi," Leone said.
"That explains a lot," Peter said.
"Here Leone, have some," Akame threw some would say, a fish drumstick at her. She stoically eyed Tatsumi and me out.
"Are you both part of the team now?"
"No," Tatsumi shook his head.
"Nope, Rapunzel."
"Then, I can't share with you yet,"
she pointed her drumstrick to Peter, "You were the guy in the costume last night, right?"
"It's not a costu-," Peter took a deep breath, "Whatever, yes it was me."
"I heard you hurt my teammates."
Peter rolled his eyes. This again, "First of all, they killed other people, so they had it coming and I know these were evil human beings, but it doesn't give them a right to kill them. Second of all, it wasn't that serious. I would have never killed them. I'm beyond that, y'know?" Peter wondered why they were so persistent on their comrade's health. They killed people who might had family or loved ones but got mad when their own got hurt. The hypocrisy reeked.
"Mmmmhhh," She chewed on her drumstick, and still laid eyes on Peter.
Leone advanced to the fire, "Today, you were going for something big. Weren't you?"
"The boss is back," Akame said.
They have a boss? I mean, why wouldn't they? A group always needs a leader. The first leader of the Avengers was Nick Fury. I wonder if they have someone similar. Leone greeted the boss and Peter peeked to the other side. His Jaw hung loosely as he examined the boss's appearance. She had short white hair, an eye patch on the right eye, and a mechanical arm on the right side. She sat on a chair, staring at the fire. Holy shit! She is the ultimate combination of Nick Fury and the Winter Soldier, you can't get more badass than that!
"Welcome back, Boss! Did you bring anything for us?" Leone said.
"What intrigues me more, Leone..." she clenched her mechanical fist, "You wasted too much time on the mission three days ago."
Leone's face went pale and sprinted away from her. The metal arm split into, shooting at Leone. It got a hold of her neck. The arm retracted itself steadily, while Leone was struggling to breathe. Like Nick Fury, she was a bit intimidating and paranoid. Who else cared if a few minutes were wasted?
"It's not beneficial, to relish fighting against strong opponents, for a long time. Don't get accustomed to it," the boss added while smiling.
"Yes, I understand, but please stop!"
"And who are these two boys?" Her fist connected to the other half again and let go of Leone's neck. She stood up right between them, placing her hands on their shoulders,
"Ahh Boss! I brought them here on the last mission. I recommend them."
Tatsumi nudged her hand away, "I can speak for myself."
The boss furrowed her eyebrows and gave them a piercing glare, "Do they have, what it takes?"
She has even the Nick Fury stare, Damn!
"They have."
"I don't think that killing people is going to be my future profe-" Leone interrupted Peter, slapping him on the shoulder,
"You can try!"
The boss stood up from her chair, her cape swayed by the motion. To Peter it was awesome, it's something right out of a movie. It added a dramatic effect.
"Akame gather the others. I want to know what happened, in my absence, except these two."
"I see, so this is how things turned out," the boss said.
By Eves dropping a few conversations, Peter found out her name was Najenda. A quite endearing name, for a person like her. All of Night Raid gathered around her. Najenda sat on a chair which was more similar to a throne. It gave off a majestic impression though. Mine watched him with a vein popping on her head.
Peter wasn't keen on retelling the last night, unfortunately, Najenda wanted a detailed summarization. While Leone gave a thorough description Peter's stomach ache returned. He still had to process a lot of things, but it wasn't affordable to think of them right now.
Night Raid had plans for him and a negotiation was inevitable. If he wasn't willing to kill people, he would have to do something else. No chance in hell they were letting him off. A compromise was a sustainable solution, but it also meant both sides won't be happy. Peter foolishly hoped otherwise.
"What do you say, Peter and Tatsumi? Do you want to join Night Raid?" Najenda held her mechanical to them as if she wanted to shake their hands. Here's the moment of truth for Peter. His mouth opened, ready to make a statement, but Tatsumi was faster,
"If we don't, you will kill us right?"
Right off the bat a great question. Perhaps Peter will let Tatsumi do the bargain for him.
"No, we don't do that. Nevertheless, we can't let you go. You would be working for us as a workforce. Either way, you won't get killed if you decline. What's your choice?"
Although Peter didn't fancy working with murderers, this proposition wasn't that bad. He expected worse.
Tatsumi clenched his fist, "I intended to make a career in the capital and rescue my impoverished village. This capital, however..."
"Tatsumi, the reason why the land suffers so much is, because of the depravity the capital possesses. Don't you want to eliminate this merciless evil? As a man!" Bulat intervened.
"Bulat was a talented soldier of the capital. But as he grew more aware of the plight plaguing the capital he became one of us," Najenda said.
Bulat elaborated, "Our job is, to wipe out every evil in the capital. That's a thousand times better than working for these rotten demons."
Peter agreed, that working for bad people is a bad choice, whether you are in an unfortunate situation or not. Going down to their level though, isn't better either.
"But, Only killing those monsters, won't change anything. Places like my village aren't going to benefit," Tatsumi said.
Good point, Tatsumi.
"Then you have all the more reason, to join Night Raid," Najenda pointed out.
"Why is that?" Tatsumi asked, his eyebrow arched upwards.
"In the southern region of the capital is a hideout of the revolutionists."
"Revolutionists?"
"The once tiny army became overtime a strong and mighty enemy of the capital. Out of that, a small group was formed which executes covert missions and assassinations. That is what we do, Night Raid. For now, we get rid of the maggots, but when the army is ready, we will start a revolt and kill the root of all problems, the minister with these hands," Najenda reached out her mechanical arm and clenched her fist.
"With...th-these hands," Tatsumi said
"When the time is right, this country will change for the better."
"This new country will be nice to its people, right?"
"Of course."
The edges of Tatsumi's lips lifted upwards as he became more optimistic, "That's great! These murders serve to kill the bad guys, they are murders of justice!"
Laughter resounded in the room. Peter understood why. Tatsumi's sentence was a slap to the face for him, calling a murder justice. It never was, it never will be. It's not the people's decision to take a life. Peter had several occasions where could have killed somebody, but he didn't, although they might have deserved it. It wasn't the right choice, that shaped him as a person and made him who he is today. His hands touched his forehead and shook his head.
"Dude, you started so strong..."
Tatsumi glanced over to Peter, left speechless. A sadistic smile formed on Leone as the laughter calmed down.
"Tatsumi, no matter how you look at it, they remain murders," her eyes darker than usual.
"It can't be called justice," Sheele said.
Well... at least they are self-aware.
"Everyone of us could die at any moment, Tatsumi," Bulat added.
It was obvious, Tatsumi never came into touch with those themes, in his entire life. To be frank it would be better if no one had to. Peter cut him some slag, nobody can figure this out instantly. It was a crucial decision of who they aspire to be. Tatsumi had to decide at the moment.
"Forget it he is too naive. We don't need someone like him." Mine said, crossing her arms.
Najenda interjected, "Everyone has their motive, yet they all are determined. Are you ready for that?"
Tatsumi tilted his head down, then up looking straight into Najenda's eyes, "I will get a fair share of money, right?"
"Yes, if you work meticulously, you will be able to help your village, without a problem."
Tatsumi puffed his chest, with a confident glare, "Then I will join, I want to be a member of Night Raid!"
"You must understand, If you make this decision you can never return to your home." Mine said.
"That's okay, as long as they are happy and well."
Mine puffed her cheeks and remained silent. Najenda stretched her arm out. Man, you don't have to do this, every single time, when you want to emphasize what you are saying. Your cold and badass aura does that for you anyway.
"Welcome to the battlefield, Tatsumi."
Peter crossed his arms, his head fell limp, having the art pattern of the floor in his view. What Tatsumi proclaimed got him thinking about his home.
Peter couldn't help but yearn for home. He longed to make things right and fix all the mistakes he had made. He wanted to go to university with MJ and Ned and live a life filled with love and excitement. But the question remained, was it even possible? The circumstances he was in seemed dire, and the possibility of him being trapped here forever was almost certain. Even with Dr. Strange's help, the odds of getting out seemed slim to none.
To make things worse, it seemed like everyone had forgotten about him. His loved ones didn't know where he was or what had happened to him. They were probably living their lives as if he never existed. As much as it hurt him, he knew that they were better off without him. His presence only caused pain and suffering.
Ned and MJ would argue otherwise, but as he looked back at the past, he couldn't help but agree. Maybe letting go was the best option for everyone.
Unbeknownst to Peter no words were uttered. The room fell to a deafening silence, every pair of eyes were watching Peter, waiting for him to unravel his sight of the situation. Peter scratched his chin, ignorant of the attention shift. Najenda coughed, trying to obtain Peter's attention. Peter ran his fingers through his hair and lifted his head. He raised an eyebrow, questioning why everyone was silent.
Peter looked around the room, why is everyone staring at me? No! not again! He checked, if his pants fell. Oh my god! Thank you, god of the multiverse! One time was humiliating enough. I never heard the end of it and it was in third grade! What would have happened if it did fall, Oh god, I don't even want to know... and they are still looking at me, this is getting awkward.
It's like coming late to class, but instead of innocent students staring into my soul, multiple murderers with, I assume, with a bleak history were scanning me like their next target. Okay, I have to say something, otherwise, I am going to believe that they want to kill me...
"Yeah, right ahhhh... hehehe," Peter cleared his throat. An Idea popped into his mind. He held his index finger high like a teacher, "Did you know, atoms don't make up most of our universe, it's actually dark matter! Crazy right?"
Okay, why the hell did this come out? Shit! They shared a couple of glances then their glance turned back to him with wrinkling eyes. Akame cocked her head like she did last night.
"Atoms?" Akame said.
Peter's nerdy side couldn't hold back, "Atoms, y'know the small particles, we are made of. The atoms themselves have a core and a shell, the core consists of protons and neutr-,"
"Peter, we were just waiting for you, to share your outlook on joining Night Raid," Sheele said, adjusting her glasses.
The moment of realization, hit Peter like a ton of bricks, "Ohhhhhhhhh,"
a burst of nervous laughter escaped Peter's mouth, "Yeah, right ummmm..."
Mine giggled, "This guy is not only impudent but stupid as well!"
Peter put his hands on his hip, "I'm stupid because I know physics or what?"
Peter got into a heated discussion with the rest of Night Raid. Well, it wasn't a discussion, but he was bombarded with questions and insults, such as: What is physics? You are such a nerd! Why are you so weird? You talk about things we don't know of, are you making those things up? Your zipper is open.
Peter struggled to keep up, his brain could only comprehend so much...
What was that last one?
Najenda observed the interaction, her face was expressionless throughout it. She lit up a cigar and took a deep breath, Night Raid was always worth her appreciation, but sometimes they act like teenagers who like drama and gossip. A big burden was on their shoulders, so she just let them be from time to time. It was well earned.
She watched the slaughtering unfold. The poor boy was holding on for dear life. Peter's head frantically shifted left and right, unable to utter a single thing. A grin formed on her face, she enjoyed those moments when nothing mattered except them. No Empire, revolution, or evil prime minister. Just the quirky little group.
She also conceded that Peter caught her attention. After the mission report, her interest in the boy spiked. He was an anomaly, injuring Sheele who is proficient with her teigu, and troubling Bulat who is, strength-wise, the most powerful. From what Bulat told her, he didn't even struggle. He could be a great addition to Night Raid, but there was one huge obstruction, his morality. She was grateful, that he let Sheele live, this proved as an obstacle for her, nevertheless.
He condemns killing, with all his heart. At least, Leone told her this and his actions prove it. Night Raid is a group based upon killing there was no way around that. If you don't force yourself to kill, he can't be a member. To be candid, he most probably didn't want it any way. Najenda wasn't going to let him. The revolution needs him, Night Raid needs him. Approaching him modestly and generously in the negotiation, was the way to go. She took a cigar out of her pocket.
Her fist smashed her arm on the armrest, "Everybody, stop!" they stopped in their tracks and shut their mouths. Najenda took a smoke, "Peter, as Sheele pointed out, we would like to hear your opinion on the matter. Would you like to join Night Raid? And, Help us in our cause?"
Peter composed himself from the onslaught. He remained silent for a while, the only sound coming from him was his feet tapping the ground. A few seconds passed as he opened his mouth, "Yes, and no... don't get me wrong ma'am, I see the corruption and why there is a revolution army. Revolution is an ugly process... a lot of people are gonna get killed. I don't want to use my abilities for this. I want to use my powers for something good, I want to save people, not kill them."
"He's a righteous prick! Yet he still won't apolo-"
"Mine shut it!" Mine gritted her teeth but followed Najenda's order.
"I admire your honesty and your morals, Peter. Unfortunately, the description is accurate. Night Raid is assigned to kill any corruption and evil that infest the capital. That's our purpose, killing is an essential part of our organization."
Peter stared at the ground, shaking his head, "If these are the requirements then I'm forced to decline, sorry ma'am. To be honest it's already worrying to me if I were to be involved in an organization like this."
"Peter, I know it's hard to understand, but the only way to help those people in the capital, is our way," Leone argued.
"I don't think so, Leone. This place may be corrupt, I won't let it corrupt me" Peter said.
"That's foolishly noble, Peter," Akame said.
Peter snorted, "Thank you, Rapunzel."
Najenda closed her eyes. There had to be a way for him, to contribute to the team. It would be a shame if Peter didn't join Night Raid. His potential value to the team was too great. Peter mentioned saving people, using his skills for a good cause. How could she turn this to an advantage for Night Raid?
Najenda reopened her eyes, "Peter, you can help Night Raid differently."
Peter raised an eyebrow, "Ah yeah, and that would be...
"You said, killing is a tabu for you, right?" Peter nodded, "And you will save people no matter what they did or who they are, or am I wrong?"
Peter sighed, "Although it is tempting sometimes not to, no... you are right."
"You will help people in need, even if they are murderers right?
Peter bit his bottom lip, "I don't like where this is going..."
"Peter, if you are not willing to kill and be an active part of the mission, then you will be used as a backup."
A puzzled expression appeared on Peter's face, "I'm not sure, I follow ma'am."
"You will be used as a safety backup in our missions. That means you will accompany Night Raid members to their missions and if things go south, you will help as a rescue force. So, we can do our part and you can do yours, save people."
Peter bit his nails, "I... I don't know if I'm comfortable letting you kill someone and me just watching."
"It's the best I can offer. So what do you choose?"
Well... fuck. Peter considered his position carefully. Najenda was generous in her demand, although she didn't have to. This offer still stinks. Even, if he wasn't supposed to kill, watching wasn't any better. But, he couldn't come up with a counter, everything else would have been absurd and she would decline immediately.
The positive side of things was he wasn't the one to actually do it, but he had to let it happen. Just watching, was like doing it. His mind wandered around the fateful night. Aunt May's death. What would she think? His responsibility... It's not great, but it's the best he had.
"I will accept, under one condition."
Najenda assessed Peter for a few seconds, "What is it?"
"Every now and then, I get to leave the hideout and help the people in the capital."
"What do you mean by helping them?"
"Being the friendly neighborhood Spider-man, helping the little guy. A robbery, attempted murder, anything to help civilians."
Najenda's fingers graced her chin, "This will cause, a lot of blowback in the capital, it won't be as easy as you think. They will, in all likelihood, treat you as a vigilante and hunt you down."
Peter shrugged his shoulders, "That's alright. Nothing new to me..."
Najenda wrinkled her eyebrows, uncertain of what he meant, nevertheless, she didn't press on, "I'm okay with this condition, but if there is a mission, you will prioritize it. Do we have terms?"
"Yes, we have." Peter tilted his head down.
"If that's everything-"
"Hold on," Mine rolled her eyes, "I wanted to ask if you could do me on favor." Peter pushed his sleeve, exposing his web-shooters. He pressed a button and a little capsule, sprung out. It flung mid-air as Peter caught it. He examined it by putting right before his eyes.
"What is that?" Tatsumi said.
"That's my web fluid, it's basically fuel for my web shooters."
"Web shooters?" Tatsumi said.
"Yeah, web shooters." Peter fumbled with his web shooters, ignorant of Tatsumi's confusion.
"What does it do?"
"What do you think einstein? It shoots webs," he stretched his other arm out. A white string shot out of his wrist and a spider like net spread out on the wall, "See."
Sheele adjusted her glasses, "It's really annoying to get off."
"That's the point," Peter said.
"What is your favor, Peter?" Najenda increasingly got impatient. This gathering was taking too long.
"I need specific materials and liquids, to recreate it. I hoped you can provide me with those. It's important in combat."
"What kinds of materials and liquids?"
Peter listed chemicals and tools after he finished, he received stares like when mentioned his very interesting fun fact, at least for him. Najenda was at a loss for words, she didn't understand not even half of what Peter listed.
"Now I'm sure you just make things up," Lubbock said.
Peter let out an annoyed sigh but didn't argue. It was pointless, their knowledge of science was lacking. Even though, the world seemed technologically more advanced for its time, there was deficiency in most areas. Maybe, he could build something useful or for fun, either way, he was going to need some materials.
Najenda cleared her throat, "Can you write those down? I'm going to the revolution camp, to see if it's available."
"Alright, thank you."
Najenda pointed her gaze at Akame, "Akame, you will watch over these two. If they make a mistake kill them."
"Understood," Akame nodded nonchalantly.
How is she so cool with this, she gotta be a psychopath, that's why her hair is so long. Isn't it? Back to her hair again Peter... I'm starting to think, her hair fascinates you... I mean how couldn't it fascinate me? She probably never cut her hair once in a life. Enough of her hair. Living with people who kill on a daily basis is not anything to be excited about, keeping the distance is the best option.
"Peter you also won't be able to return home if you join us." Leone reminded Peter.
Peter chuckled and vision shifted to the to the ground, "I can't do that any way."
The group split up and Peter made his way to the room which, to be frank, wasn't better than the last one, but in hindsight, he wasn't in any danger, yet. His concerns overran his mind. He made promise to himself. No matter what happened, this place wasn't going to change him. It wasn't a challenge to take lightly, but he had to try and not give up... heroes don't do that, Spider-man never will.
As he cut a corner a person bumped into him. He looked around, but there was no one to be found.
"Hey, prick!"
Oh, it was her... not again, I can't deal with her now. Peter tilted his head down, seeing the bright pink colors and the pigtail hairstyle. Her face was red like a petulant angry child, her arms crossed. This time a different approach might be better
"Hey, look about what happened this morning-"
"Shut it." her voice was calm, yet really tense, like a volcano that was about to erupt, "Just, because you are in Night Raid, doesn't mean I am going to automatically accept you."
Peter didn't know what to tell her. For him she was being unreasonable, so he couldn't find a way to rebuke her without making her more angry,
"I am... uhh... I"
"That's all you are going to say in your defense? Hah, I knew you were pathetic from the get go."
Peter tried to keep it cool, however she pissed him off, to no end.
"I don't trust you, prick. I'm going to keep an eye out for you," she strode past him and pushed his shoulder.
It's off to a great start, huh...
