Chapter 6

(Hiccup's Bedroom)

Hiccup sleeps peacefully in his bed, unaware of the five people sneaking into his room. When the teens were all in the room, they locked the door and window so Hiccup couldn't try to escape.

Astrid was the first to take action and pulled him roughly out of his bed and threw him on the floor. Hiccup turns around so that his back is against the wooden floor. Looking up, he sees who it was that attacked him. "Ehh..., what are you doing?" he asks in fear, thinking it would be better to keep his new talents hidden. "We decided that your little game in the arena would end before it began. No one can get so good overnight, implying you are cheating! Cheating is not the Viking way; you shouldn't be allowed to participate if you can't win that way." Astrid growls out. "Yeah, you see, we thought it would be nice of us to help you get out of training. So, we will beat you up until you can't even walk! You won't have the chance to show up for training." Snotlout declares with a sick smile.

Hiccup jumps up and runs toward the door, only to find it locked. Running to the window, he finds it also locked. Turning around, he can see the others slowly closing in on him. So Hiccup did the only thing that wouldn't give him away; he closed his eyes and accepted his fate. The first thing that hit him was a punch in the face, mainly from Astrid, considering the strength the punch held. He was followed by a kick to his right leg, which made him tumble to the floor. As he lies there, he can only think about his pain and sometimes listen to a bone-breaking sound. This continued for almost five hours before the teens decided it should do. Unlocking the door, they all walked out, but Astrid stopped, "I hope you learned your lesson. Also, don't even think about telling anyone it was us, or we will ensure you won't survive this year." With that, he was left alone on the floor, broken, bleeding, and void of all emotions. He didn't even try to stand up as he slowly drifted into unconsciousness.

All Hiccup heard was something being shouted all over again. He couldn't make out what it was, but after a few minutes, he could barely make his name being shouted out. As he slowly regained consciousness, he could feel the pain all over his body. Slowly opening his eyes, he tries to shield them with his arm, only to cry out in pain when he moves it. "Easy there, lad. You're seriously injured." he heard Gobber telling him, worried. As Hiccup looks around, he notices that he's in Gothi's hut, which means that he must have been moved from his home to here, probably by Gobber. "How did I get here? And what time is it?" he asked his mentor. Before Gobber could respond, he got shoved aside by an old lady, Gothi. She's holding out a bowl with a green liquid in it toward him. "She's telling you to drink this. It will numb the pain, not completely, but it will be manageable; as for how you got here and what time it is, I found you in your room after you didn't show up for training, and after I saw you, I immediately brought you here. You were out for an entire day; it is around 9 a.m right now. I'm sorry, Hiccup, but you can't continue training..." Gobber told him with sadness in his voice and tears in his eyes.

"Don't worry, Gobber; I'm glad I'm still alive." Hiccup told him with little to no emotion in his voice. The blacksmith couldn't believe his ears as he heard how emotionless his apprentice sounded. He always listened to a lot of emotion in his voice. Looking Hiccup in the eyes, he was surprised by how void he looked. "What happened to ya, lad?" Gobber asks, but he already fears the answer. "Something that was about to happen anyway. Just sooner than any could have expected." Hiccup said in a cold tone as he stood up. Gothi and Gobber tried to get him to sit back down but stopped when they looked at him.

"Don't worry about me. I can handle it. And forget how it happened; I want to move on." Hiccup said in the same cold tone as before. "Alright. But I still want you by dragon training, even if it means that you sit on the benches outside. You could still learn some things while watching." Gobber told him before he left the hut.

He knew it would be a painful walk to the cove, but he also knew Toothless could help him. So even if it hurts him, he walks behind his house and enters the woods.

(The Cove)

As Hiccup enters the cove, he immediately sees a black mass move toward him and hears a worried screech. "What happened to you?! Let me see those wounds!" Toothless commanded him. Hiccup, of course, didn't hesitate and complied and sat down while throwing off his shirt. After ten minutes of intense licking, Toothless stopped and looked at the ground with a saddened expression, "I know you have damaged some of your bones. They should heal in about two days, but... you have some internal damage that my saliva can't reach. I'm sorry." "Do you think if I would drink some of your saliva, it could heal?" Hiccup asks, even if it sounds disgusting. "It could work, but I'm not sure." Toothless told him. Hiccup puts his hands out and forms a bowl, indicating that Toothless will fill it with his saliva. After Toothless filled it with plenty of drool, Hiccup closed his eyes and downed the entire saliva with one quick motion.

"Brother, you know who did that to me, but we will not strike yet. We will wait, make a name for ourselves, and when we are ready, we will take Berk." Hiccup said in a voice full of hate and anger. Toothless could say he even feels the anger radiating from Hiccup. "Alright. When will we leave." the dragon asks. "We will wait until I'm fully healed. Then I will say my goodbyes. In the meantime, I will enjoy seeing the others making a fool of themselves." Hiccup said with a determined face which transformed into a sadistic smile at the end.

Hiccup didn't go back to the village that night but spent his night embracing black wings and a scaly chest. Toothless watches the boy sleep, 'I can't wait to show everyone what a mistake it was to treat us like that. One day, they will fear us more than death.' he thought before sleeping.

(The next day at the ring)

Hiccup is the first to arrive and sits in the stands around the arena. After ten minutes, the recruits and Gobber came. Gobber is happy to see that Hiccup is here, and he healed quickly from the looks of it. The others smiled at him, telling him he had made the right choice not to tell anyone. What they didn't expect was the look he gave them. A cold stare that could indicate that someone was planning on murdering you. Fishlegs and the twins shortly felt a shiver run down their spines but brushed it off after a few seconds. They still thought that Hiccup could never do anything less threaten them.

Gobber started training, and the teens concentrated on that. Today was against the Gronckle again. Hiccup is watching this lesson with a slight smirk on his face. He enjoys watching the others getting blasted or crashed into. After 30 minutes, the class ended, and Astrid was declared the winner of this round, but all the trainees got a few bruises and were exhausted. They all made their way back into the village, most going to the great hall, but Hiccup walked toward the forge.

Arriving at the forge, he walks into the store, looking around the weapon racks. He is searching for a few weapons he can take when he leaves. As he looks around the room, he spots a pair of two short swords. Going over to them, he picks them up and inspects them. They were much lighter than regular swords, finely crafted, and perfectly balanced. As he takes a few practice swings, Gobber walks into the forge. Seeing Hiccup with swords, he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "What are ya doing here, Hiccup?" he asks the boy. "If I can't fight dragons, I can start by training with a few weapons." Hiccup explains. It wasn't a lie, he needed them for training, but Gobber didn't need to know with who he trained. "So you found my finest weapons then?" Gobber chuckled. Hiccup holds the sword toward the smith, showing him he could put them away if he couldn't use them. Gobber was looking at him for a moment before shaking his head, "Keep them, lad. You earned them." he said with a slight smile. Hiccup nodded and returned his attention to the weapons rack.

As he looks around, he finds a sheath for both swords, which would position them like an 'X' on his back. Taking them, he puts the mon and sheats the blades. Walking out, he noticed something in the far corner sticking out of a chest. Walking over, he pulls it out and sees that it's a carefully made bow. Looking around, he doesn't see Gobber, so he takes it and also takes some arrows. With everything he has, he left the forge.

As he reached his home, he put everything into a basket. He also packs a few clothes and furs to keep him warm. Hearing his stomach growl, he decides to go to the mead hall. When he arrived, he could see the trainees on one table in the middle of the room, behaving like they were the kings of Midgard. He walks toward the table in the farthest corner, which lacks light. Sitting down, he's observing the Vikings in the hall, quietly eating his meal. As he watches the people, he can't help but feel disgusted that this was the tribe he was born into.

When he finished his meal, he returned to the forge to get some tools to make weapons for himself. Picking up the basket with his other things, he returns to the cove to start his training. Their training consisted of Toothless attacking Hiccup, who would try to evade the Nightfury. While training, Toothless would give him helpful tips to improve.

"How do you know so much about fighting?" Hiccup asks as they finish their training for today. "First, you improved a lot today. In a few days, you could be one of the best fighters I've ever seen. And to answer your question, I'm much older than you think. Dragons typically reach an age ranging from 300 - 400, but Nightfuries can get much older. The oldest Nightfury lived for a few thousand years. I'm not too old, as I'm 467 years old. During this time, I had much time to watch warriors fight." Toothless explained. "So I will die before you?" Hiccup asks curiously. "I doubt that. You may live as long as I live since we are bonded." the dragon informs.

Accepting that answer, they decided to get some sleep. Hiccup sleeps again under the dragon's wings.

(Five days later)

For the last five days, Hiccup spent his time watching the trainees and training with Toothless. On the fourth day, Hiccup could hold himself against the dragon. They always trained most of the day and spent a few hours flying around. Hiccup also trained with his bow, which took him only two days to master.

Hiccup is walking to the forge to help Gobber when he notices the Vikings running toward the docks. Deciding to investigate, he makes his way to the ports. Many people gave him weird looks as he had his swords strapped on his back, and he never got seen with those before, so it was shocking to see him with weapons. Reaching the docks, he could see Gobber and Stoick talking, and from the face of Stoick, he could tell it was about dragon training.

Stoick locked eyes with Hiccup and approached him, stopping a few feet before him. By now, the whole village was there, watching the interaction with interest. "You only had to do ONE thing, and even that, you messed up." the chief told him spitefully. "It's not like I could take part, being injured. But who cares? You, definitely not." the boy replied in a sharp tone. "What did you say?:" Stoick asks with an angry frown. The chief couldn't believe that his son was talking back at him. "If you didn't hear me, you're not worth my time." Hiccup said and walked away. He was planning on leaving tonight, so it didn't matter how they thought about it.

Stoick still stood at the docks thinking about how his son looked at him. He could feel his son's gaze burning into his soul like an enemy does before he starts attacking you. Turning to Gobber, he asks, "What happened to him?" Gobber replied, "As I said, I found him beaten up, and after that, he was like that. A complete new Hiccup, darker and angrier." The chief couldn't believe what he was hearing. He would have a word with his son, getting him to be his old self again. But first, he needed to make a meeting with the council.

(The evening in the great hall)

Stoick is standing at the head table, surrounded by his council. "I've called you for this meeting regarding my son, Hiccup. As many of you know, most of the village wants him gone. So I brought you here to discuss what I should do."

There was murmuring at the table as they all discussed what to do. Gobber was the first to speak, "I say, don't banish him. He is a good smith, and we need him." he told the council. Again, there were murmurs of agreement. That is until Spitelout stood up. He was Stoick's second in command and Sontlout's father. He always tried to make Stoick pick Snotlout as heir, so he saw this as his chance to succeed. "I think he needs to go. Maybe he is a good smith, but he still causes much more damage to the village. We can't risk losing more food. I say, banish him."

There were 30 minutes of discussion between Gobber and Spitelout, each making valid points for their opinion. After that debate ended, the council made its choice. Standing up was the leader of the council, Gunnar Hofferson. "The council has decided. We all vote for the banishment of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third. As well as the removal from his position of heir." with that said, he sat down. "I will make the announcement tomorrow morning," Stoick said, leaving the hall. Gobber was the second one out and walked to the forge.

When he arrives, he is surprised to see Gothi and Hiccup standing before him. Blinking in confusion, he looks to the elder, who shrugs and points at Hiccup. Now he was looking at the boy with an expectant look. Making sure that no one else is around, Hiccup starts his explanation, "Before you ask, I knew that it would come to this. So I planned for it and decided that instead of letting them banish me, I would leave. I didn't tell this anyone except you two because I owe you that, at least for always being there for me. Don't worry about how I'm going to leave. I will miss you, and maybe our paths will cross again."

Walking out of the forge, he gets stopped by a rasped voice, "Good luck on your journey, Dragon rider." Gothi told him. With a nod, he left the building and walked into the darkness. Gobber looks at Gothi bewildered. That woman had a vow of silence and just broke it with that sentence. "What do you mean with Dragon Rider?" Gobber asks her. She draws in the dirt. "Ah. So he shot it down and then trained it?" Gothi nods and walks out, telling the smith she wouldn't tell him more. Gobber was left behind with a lot of questions in his head.

(The Cove)

When Hiccup arrived, he started putting the baskets on Toothless's saddle. He mounts and pats him on the head to ensure the baskets are all secured. "From now on, it's just you and me, brother. We, against the whole world. This should be fun." Hiccup said. "Oh yes. We will make sure to get our revenge on everyone. Dragons and Vikings alike." Toothless said with determination. When everything is secured, they shoot into the night. Leaving nothing but hate.

There you go. I hope you like it. Feel free to tell me what you think about it.
