Part Fourteen

Xander woke up to the smell of coffee, bacon, eggs and pancakes. He cracked an eye open and saw that he was alone in bed. A pout appeared on his face as he sat up and ran a hand through his hair. Tossing the covers off his body Xander grabbed a clean pair of boxers. A shower was in his immediate future. Staggering out of the bedroom Xander made his way to the kitchen. He could hear Spike singing 'My Way'.

"Why are you up so early," Xander mumbled. He all but fell into his chair. He placed his elbow on the table his hand holding up his head.

Spike came over and placed a cup of coffee down in front of Xander before placing a kiss on the top of his head. "Wanted to make your breakfast." He went back to flip a pancake. "I thought after last night you were gonna need some food to get your energy back."

Xander perked up at the thought of last night. "Last night was nice. Really nice."

"Just nice?" Spike asked as he started plating the food.

"Mind blowing. I can't wait to do it again and again and again."

Placing the plate in front of Xander, Spike replied, "And again?"

"Now don't push it," joked Xander as he took a bite out of a piece of bacon. He moaned caused Spike's pants to tighten.

Spike heated up some blood and piled some food on a plate for himself before sitting across the table from Xander. He dunked a piece of bacon into his blood before taking a bite.

Xander raised his eyebrow. "Good?"

"Delicious."

With a nod Xander stuffed eggs in his mouth. "Wanna shower together after breakfast?" he asked around his food.

"Luv, I'm not showering any other way from now on."

"The Xan-man has ruined solo showers for the big bad!" Xander looked so proud of himself.

Spike rolled his eyes at Xander smugness even though he was right. "I am unhappy that we're gonna wash my scent off of you."

"Baby, I'm going to have your scent on me a lot from now on," Xander assured he held out his hand that had been holding up his head. Spike took it and Xander gave his hand a squeeze. "I love you."

"I love you too, Xan." Spike rubbed his thumb across Xander's knuckles. "Never doubt that."

Xander was confused by that. Why would he doubt Spike's love for him?

They pulled up to the Magic Box and before Xander could open the car door Spike stopped him. "Wait."

"What's wrong?" Xander asked. Spike had been acting weird all day. Constantly he told Xander that he loved him like he was trying to convince him that it was true. When Xander question him about it Spike just replied that he deserved to know.

"Can we hold off telling the others about us," Spike requested. He saw a hurt look cross Xander's face. "Just a day, yeah?"

Xander had been waiting months to just have Spike, so waiting one more day for the others to know wouldn't kill him. "Sure. Tomorrow definitely though, right?"

Spike leaned over and kissed Xander on the lips. "Yes."

"Okay, but I can't promise I won't stare at you longingly." Xander batted his eyes at Spike.

"Git," Spike said affectionately. "Let's go."

Xander grabbed the box of donuts they picked up climbed out of his car. They walked into the shop and only saw Tara, Riley and Giles. "Avem gogoși!" Xander said în Romanian.

Tara and Riley looked like they were ready to start an exorcism.

Giles walked round the counter with an impressed look on his face. "You're pronunciation is improving immensely. Any jelly ones?"

Xander placed the box on the table. "You bet."

"So that wasn't a demon language?" Riley asked as he took a crueller for himself.

"No, I've been teaching Xander Romanian and I have to say he has really impressed me with how quickly he's picked it up."

Xander shrugged like it wasn't a big deal. "It's easier to learn things when people have patience with me."

Spike felt so proud of Xander. He knew Xander could excel if he had the proper help. His attention turned from Xander to the missing Scooby's. He could hear Willow and Buffy talking in the training room. As the others talked about Xander's new found talent Spike took that moment to sneak away. Now was the perfect time to talk to them.

He opened the door and quickly shut it behind him gaining the attention of the girls.

"Spike," Willow greeted. She picked up her purse and started to pull out her wallet.

"Stop!" Spike said quietly but sternly. "I don't want your money."

Buffy frowned. "Why? You and Xander have been getting along so great. He's been happier."

"And so have you!" Willow added.

"That's why I don't want your money anymore. We've become real friends. We're more than just friends and taking your money to spend time with him isn't right anymore."

Buffy looked at Willow hoping she knew what Spike was talking about but she looked just as lost. "What do you mean you are more than friends?"

"We've been together for a few months." It wasn't really a lie. Technically they went on dates it's just they hadn't had a label until last night. "I love him."

"Wait, so you've been in a relationship with Xander and you've still be taking our money to hang out with him?" Buffy said trying not to lose her cool.

Everyone's attention turned to the door when they heard bottled water hit the floor. The one person they didn't want to see standing there was. "Xander," Spike's voice was strained.

"You... you paid Spike to hang out with me?" The hurt was evident in Xander's voice.

"It's not like that, Xan!" Willow said even though that was exactly what it was like. "We were just trying to help."

Xander staggered out into the main room. "Were you all in on this?"

"What are you talking about, Xander?" Giles had a napkin in his hand to wipe the jelly off his face.

"How much were you paying Spike to spend time with me?" Xander demanded to know.

Tara didn't understand what was happening. "Xander, no one was paying Spike to be your friend." That's when she noticed it. Willow's, Buffy's and Spike's auras were different. "Oh, Willow, what did you do?"

"We were just trying to help!" Willow cried. "Xander was so sad being the odd man out and Spike made that better."

Giles took his glasses off and rubbed the palms of his hands hard against his eyes. "You stupid children."

Riley was at an absolute loss of words. This was why Buffy was always getting mad at him when he bad mouthed Spike? Because of Xander?

"I didn't need a new friend. I needed MY friends!" Xander yelled. "You guys were so focused on your own relationships that it was never just the three of us anymore after Anya left. I needed my best friends but that seemed impossible. I'd invite you two over for a Bollywood marathon and you would bring Riley and Tara." Xander looked at them. "You guys are great and you make them happy which I am so thankful for but for three years it was us. The Three Musketeers. And as soon as I didn't have a partner you pawned me off as someone else's problem. The thing with the Initiative and Adam didn't change a damn thing."

"That wasn't our intention Xander. We just wanted you to have someone to hang out with when we were all hanging out." Buffy felt so bad. She honestly thought they had done the right thing.

Spike stood there not saying a word but that didn't save him from Xander's wrath. "And you. This was why you were so nice to me that night at the Bronze? Not because you wanted to be friends but because you were paid to?"

"At first yeah, but then I got to know you, luv." Spike took a step forward but stopped when Xander took two steps back. "I got to know you and I found out how much of an amazing person you actually are."

"But you kept taking their money anyway. This entire time even after we started 'dating'?" Xander used finger quotations around the word dating. "Did they pay you extra for that? I hope you got a bonus for last night."

Spike looked appalled by that thought. "Of course not! My love for you has nothing to do with them or money."

"I don't believe you," Xander's voice cracked. "I don't." He couldn't breathe. "I can't be here." On unsteady feet Xander made his way out of the shop without another word.

Buffy and Willow went to follow him but Giles stepped in front of them. "He wants to be alone."

"But he shouldn't be!" Willow argued, her eyes wet with unshed tears.

"You created this mess," Giles said not beating around the bush. "You three are responsible for how Xander is feeling right now. If you were in Xander's shoes right now would you want to see him?"

Buffy knew she could blow past Giles with ease but he was right she wouldn't want to see her friends if they had done this to her. "You're right. We really messed up," she acknowledged.

"We didn't mean to hurt him," swore Willow. The tears were now streaming down her cheeks.

Tara gathered her into her arms. "It's going to be okay. Xander just needs time."

Giles looked at Spike. "You and Xander are together?" Spike nodded unable to speak. "And yet you kept accepting money?" Another nod. "For someone who loves so deeply yet somehow money ended up being more important to you."

"I used that money on Xander!" Spike tried to defend himself.

"That doesn't make it right." Giles looked at Riley and Tara. "Take them home. I can't look at them anymore tonight."

The pain of Xander being mad at them intensified with Giles's clear disappointment.

They all left leaving Spike standing there alone with Giles. He had no where to go. He couldn't go back to the apartment. Not tonight. Not until he could talk to Xander. "I really do love him, watcher."

"I believe you, Spike. The problem is that he doesn't. I hope you are able to prove to him that you do love him."

"I will. I have to because he's the only good thing in my miserable bloody existence." Spike's heart felt like it was broken in a thousand little pieces. "Don't suppose I can crash here tonight?" Full on prepared for Giles to throw his ass out as well.

Giles wanted to say no but didn't. Not for Spike but for Xander because as much as he was hurting right now he wouldn't want Spike out on the street.
