A/N: Super filler chapter of random Hawks fluff. I was considering not posting this, but I already had it written out so I figured why not. Next chapter coming later this week. Enjoy and let me know what you think of the story so far!
Chapter 15
Asami's Apartment – 3 Years Ago
Asami sits on her couch cross legged as she holds her computer on her lap, browsing various news outlets for information being spread about Hawks and his hero career. For the most part he has been well received, with most outlets focusing on his young age and good looks rather than his hero resolves. This is a fine narrative for them to paint him with, knowing that resolves alone will not get him in the top ten, and he will need to be well liked if he plans on breaking into the top.
She jumps when she hears four knocks on her door, not expecting company for the night, and wonders who could possibly be here. She glances down at her laptop to see that it's nine at night, so there is no reason someone should be knocking on her door this late.
She reluctantly lifts herself from the couch and heads towards the door of her apartment. She looks out the peephole of her door when she notices the large crimson wings and head of golden hair standing on the other side of the threshold.
She pulls her face away from the door as her brows tangle together in confusion. Why is Hawks here this late? Had she forgotten to do something that work? Today was one of the only days that she was able to leave on time, had he given her an assignment that she missed?
Asami opens the door, only to be quickly greeted by the wide infectious smile of the blonde hero. "Hey hey!" he says with a loud cheeriness in his tone.
"Hawks, what are you doing here?" she asks him with confused eyes that dart between his golden eyes.
He pulls a bottle of Sake from behind his back and lifts it up to her as his smile widens. "I thought I would come by and celebrate with my favorite employee," he says with a wide cheeky grin. "Don't tell any of them that you're my favorite. It'll destroy them," his grin drops and he grows serious.
She blinks at him, completely confused at his intrusion so late. "What are you talking about?"
He chuckles, his features lighting up to his signature happiness. "You are looking at the newest Number Seven Pro Hero."
"Holy shit! Hawks really!" Asami shrieks, lifting her hands up to her lips to cover her sheer excitement.
"Yup," he pops the P. "The Commission let me know this morning. It's been killing me to keep it from you all day today. But I am not allowed to tell the PR team until a week before the Billboard Charts where it will be announced."
"This is amazing! I… I can't believe this! That's a forty-person leap to the top!"
"And it's all because of the work that you do," he tells her with a lopsided smile.
She smiles up at him, melting at his words while he stands there awkwardly, waiting for her to let him in. When she notices his eyes wonder past her and into her apartment, she realizes that he is still standing in the hallway. "Oh sorry, come in," she jumps out of his way to give him passage.
"Nice place!" he says as his eyes search the room, landing on every bit of décor and personality she's placed into decorating the place. "It smells like a garden in here," he says turning towards her.
"It's probably just the candle," she says hugging her arms to her body at the idea that Hawks is in her home. Pro Hero Hawks. Her boss Hawks.
His smile lingers on her, and she wonders if he can sense how weird this scenario is for her. "Come on, let's have a drink and celebrate!" he says placing the bottle on her kitchen countertop and grabbing two cups. He pours the contents in the first glass and hands it to her as she takes it hesitantly. He takes the second one and pours one out for himself.
"You know we're not of drinking age," she speaks up as she watches him take a swig. "Which means that your means of procuring this Sake is criminal. That's not a good look for a soon to be top ten Pro Hero," she says with a hint of a tease in her tone that he catches.
He takes another sip of his drink, "Well looks like my PR team will have a hell of a day cleaning up my image," he returns with a wink.
She giggles lightly at his response, looking down sheepishly at her drink. After a moment's hesitation, she tips the glass to her lips, taking in the floral taste of the Sake. Her facial expressions twist at the taste and Hawks can't help but audibly laugh at her response.
"I don't like Hanayaka Sake," she admits with a soft smile. "It tastes like flowers," she grumbles. "I like Hojun's fruity flavor more.
"I can get you something else?" he offers and she shakes her head.
"No this is fine," she smiles warmly at him. "You'll just have to deal with my gross face every time I take a sip," she teases and he shakes his head, finding her face anything but.
"Would you like to sit down?" she asks him and he nods as she leads him to the couch.
He looks down as she moves her laptop from the couch to the coffee table, noticing that she's still monitoring the news even when she's home. "Do you ever give it a rest?" he asks her nodding at her computer when she looks up at him.
"Oh," she blushes at the comment. "I was just making sure—"
"Asami please, for the love of your sanity, please stop working when you get home. It's bad enough you're in the office well after the sun goes down."
"I am sane," she tells him in a fake offended tone. "I enjoy what I do, I don't know what's wrong with that."
"Well, isn't there anything else you like to do outside of work?"
"I like to go running, but I do that in the morning before work around four."
"Wow, you're a real masochist," he chuckles and she rolls her eyes playfully at him. "What about your family? Do you hang out with them at all?" she shrugs at his comment, and he stiffens at her response. He shouldn't have asked about her family. He knows better than anyone how touchy of a subject that can be. "Sorry, you don't have to answer that," he tells her quickly.
"No, it's alright," she smiles at him, defusing the scene. "It's just me and my dad," she informs him. "He's a financial advisor to Pro Heroes, so growing up without my mom around, he used to take me to visit his clients. It was pretty boring growing up, but some of his clients had kids my age, so I got to play with them if that was the case. I am still friends with some of them to this day, actually."
Hawks smiles softly at her, knowing not to question where her mother is in her life, noticing that she didn't linger much on that piece of her life. "So, are you and your dad close?" he asks her, taking a sip of his Sake.
"Yeah, I guess," she begins. "He moved to America when I graduated from UA, and I decided to stay here. He wanted to distance himself from advising Heroes and focus on businessmen and the likes, while I wanted to focus on Public Relations for Heroes rather than businesses. But I still talk to him from time to time."
"So, you got into UA, but you didn't go to become a hero yourself?" he asks, never hearing someone go to the top hero school for anything but heroing.
"Well, there's the Managerial Studies program that is world renowned for Public Relations, Journalism, and Business of hero work. With a Quirk like mine, there was no way I was going to pass the entrance exam to be a hero, so I got in through recommendation into the Managerial Studies program."
Hawks tilts his head to the side, curious at her words. "I didn't realize you had a Quirk. I've never heard you speak of it, I just always assumed you were Quirkless."
"Yeah, I have my father's Quirk. It's not really helpful with today's society," she says lifting her shoulders up into a shrug. "On paper my Quirk is Fluid Manipulation. I can manipulate the fluid in one's body to stop the flow of blood. If I practiced more with it, I could have gone into a health profession to assist in surgeries or something, but as it stands now, I can't really control it and I just stop blood flow from going to the heart which can lead to heart attacks, blood clots, or death. My dad always told me to never use my Quirk, so going into a profession based off of my powers was never really an option for me."
Hawks frowns, never really knowing many people who have hidden their Quirks from society as she does. He hates to see that she's so self-conscious of her Quirk, and wished that she had more opportunity to work with her power, seeing it as a valuable one.
"I'm sorry to hear that," he says unsure what else to say to her.
She looks up at him, eyes widening at the grim tone the conversation has turned to. "No, I'm sorry," she says shaking her head as loose strands of purple hair stray into her face. "I've never really used my Quirk much growing up, so it's never felt like a huge loss for me," she says as she tugs back the strands of hair behind her ear.
Asami continues to drink the Sake, and ends up finishing her glass before Hawks. He playfully teases her before pouring her another glass, mentioning that he should have bought more Sake. She tells him that it's good that he didn't since she's such a lightweight, ashamed to admit that she's already feeling lightheaded after the single glass of Sake.
"So, tell me about yourself," Asami says with a smile as she props her head up with her knuckles. "I don't know anything about you beyond what the media tells."
"What can I say? I'm a private guy!" he chuckles, not really feeling comfortable divulging his back story with her fearing how she will judge him if she knew everything.
"How about we tell each other something that we haven't told anyone else? It'll be our secret," she giggles and he notices the blush kissing her cheeks from her drinks.
"Alright," he says with a sigh. "Let's see," he says thinking for a moment before he finally says, "My favorite Hero is Endeavor," he nods, "I know a lot of people are All Might fans, but when I was growing up, I always idolized him."
She smiles at him softly as her eyes become increasingly lidded. "Endeavor was my favorite growing up too," she admits to him. "He was one of my dad's clients, and though he intimidated me a lot, he still showed the world how amazing he was, and how passionate he was about being a hero."
"Alright, it's your turn," he says with a devious smile on his face.
She bites her lip playfully as she makes a show of wracking her mind for a secret as Hawks stares at her with a soft smile on his face, loving the way she looks when she's thinking.
She begins giggling that just makes his smile grow bigger. "Alright, this is super embarrassing, but I used to be super chunky as a kid," she laughs and Hawks does everything in his power to not drag his eyes down the whole of her body.
"No way," he shakes his head incredulously and she giggles even more as the red blush kisses her cheeks.
"Yeah, it's super embarrassing. I think I burned any photographic evidence of it. I didn't fill out my body until eleven or twelve years old. And to make it worse, I had this awful bowl cut hairstyle for the longest time because I thought it was a great idea to cut my own hair. So, I looked like a fat boy growing up."
"I am sure you were as cute as you are now," he says with a tilt of his head and she blushes uncontrollably at his flirty tone.
She sheepishly looks away and takes another sip of her drink, beginning to feel the heat of the drink hitting her cheeks.
"But that's not a secret," he tells her, bringing her back to his eyes. "Everyone who knew you back then knew that."
"But no one now does," she counters.
"Doesn't count!" he challenges her and she rolls her eyes at him as he flirtatiously nudges her.
Her eyes shift from his, looking off in the distance with a soft smile. She thinks for a moment before she blurts out, "I think you're incredibly sexy," she admits softly as her brows furrow and she looks onto his golden orbs.
He blinks at her and realization finally strikes her at what she's said. "Oh my god, I'm sorry!" she says with a mortified tone as her eyes widen and she brings her hands to her lips, lifting herself to her feet to drive distance between them.
"That was super embarrassing and inappropriate!" she panics. "I don't know what came over me, I must have had way too much to drink," she begins pacing the room. "Please forget I said anything!" she begs him with downturned eyes.
Hawks continues to remain quiet as the gears in his head begin turning at her words. She reads his expression with a groan of embarrassment. He lifts himself to his feet and she can tell that he is going to leave and this is the end of her career and everything that she's ever built.
"I'm sorry, that just came out. Please, please forget I said that. I really like my job, and I didn't mean to cross a line and—"
Before she can finish or continue to ramble on, Hawks closes the distance between them and presses his lips harshly against hers. She pulls back from him immediately and blinks at the blonde hero. "Sorry," he apologizes as he turns his head from hers, not fully expecting her to have pulled back from the kiss. "I've just been wanting to do that for a while now, and I figured... why not?"
Asami watches him as his eyes turn back on hers, both of them surveying one another to make the next move. They've both shown the other that they want to move forward, but neither are willing to be the one to do it.
Asami can't help but think about the white-haired boy from her childhood that didn't even give her a second thought back then, but no matter that fact, she thinks about him and how she never told him that she liked him, and how she regrets that she will never be able to now.
Asami moves slowly now, lifting her hand to his cheek and pressing the pads of her fingertips to his soft skin. She smiles at him as she moves her face to meet his. He reads her cue and leans into her to meet her halfway. Their lips touch once more, only this time with a softer embrace.
Their lips entangle with one another as Hawks moves his hand to hold the back of her neck, tangling his digits into her hair. He turns her head to the side and drives a deeper kiss, releasing a quiet moan from her lips.
His tongue presses to her lips, brushing against her bottom one to beg for entrance into her mouth. She gladly accepts his advance and opens her mouth to allow him to explore.
Their tongues graze against one another as they brush and dance against each other. They taste like their flowery drinks and Hawks moans as he leans into her body, closing the gap between them even further. She is quick to read his desire and she turns her body to his.
She backs him back into the couch, and once they've crashed back into their seat, she places her hand on his shoulder, pushing him against the back of the couch as she swings her leg over his lap, straddling him between her legs.
Hawks looks up at her with a chuckle breaking through his throat. He places his hands tightly on her hips, grabbing them with a wild need to hold her in his grip. He groans as she bucks her hips at his grasp. Her lips crash back against his and the heat between them begins to build.
"—Sami" he groans as he pulls his lips from hers feeling himself getting hard from her actions and knowing that he won't be able to hold himself back if this goes any further.
She looks down at him with tangling brows as to why he would stop the kiss. "You're sure about this?" he asks seeing that if they continue, they will cross a threshold they will never be able to return from.
Realization strikes her like a brick wall and her face grows red with embarrassment. She shyly covers her face with the palm of her hand, shielding herself from him at what she's doing with him. "I'm sorry," she begins. "This is wildly inappropriate," she says again as she begins to lift herself from his lap.
His hands quickly grip her hips, keeping her pinned down to him. "No," he begins awkwardly. "I didn't mean it like that," he says as he releases his hold on her, awkwardly realizing that he's pinning her down.
"I mean," his eyes tear from her as he glances around the room. "I want to," he admits quietly. "I really want to," he says with a hint of shame in his voice for wanting something so wrong. "But I don't want you to think that you have to, you know… because I'm your…" he can't say the word boss, as admitting it will declare how wrong this is.
Her hand drops from her face and she looks at him. Their timid eyes reach one another's as they wait for the other to say or do something.
"You're not going to lose your job," he reassures her. "That wasn't my purpose for coming here," he grows grim and outwardly cringes at the realization of how his intentions could have been misconstrued. "Fuck, that's not why I came here. I just wanted to celebrate, and not like that!" he takes in a deep breath, seeing the confusion lacing her eyes.
"Look, I think you're incredibly sexy too," he admits to her as their eyes stay fixated on each other's. "And watching you work in your own environment… you're taking over the industry and I'm so proud to have you on my team," he smiles at her and she smiles back at him sheepishly.
"And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in being with you," he continues, "but I'd be mortified if I knew it was because you thought you had to. You have no obligation to move forward with this, and you will see no ramifications if you don't want to. Business as usual is how we'll continue," he chuckles awkwardly as he tries to read her expression.
Finally, Asami speaks up, "I want to too," she admits with a weak tone.
She bites her lip in confliction, wanting nothing more than this right now, but knowing that it's wrong. But how wrong can it be? They can be quiet about it, and she can refuse any promotion that might be tied to his desire for her. If they continue their work as they are, then there is nothing really wrong with two grown adults enjoying the company of one another in private.
She looks up at him, purple eyes glistening with need as she says, "No one has to know."
