In this chapter, Luigi's going down the well again. What will he find this time? Will he find Mario? Or something else?
Oh, and Zelda is too.
In a non-story related note, it seems that Luigi's Mansion 3 has come out. It seems that Nintendo decided that Luigi's Mansion should be a trilogy.
Perhaps I'll make a fanfic based on that. It sounds fun.
Although ironically enough I think Hellen Gravely wishes for King Boo to be her king. I included a Queen Boo character. I guess I kind of predicted the future.
Chapter 7: Well Well Well
As before, Bogmire's key led to the garden.
Thankfully, the garden didn't seem to be haunted...unlike the rest of the mansion.
It was a pleasant surprise.
However, Luigi was suspicious that there were Piranha Plants hiding in the garden somewhere, ready to bite him. He wouldn't put it past King Boo.
Perhaps it would be best if he checked his surroundings carefully. Ghosts could be very sneaky.
Almost as soon as they entered, they discovered a depressing sight.
Luigi and Zelda noticed a crying Toad.
"Wah! Wah!" exclaimed the crying Toad. He could probably cry up a lake.
However, he didn't seem to be one of the assistants. Otherwise, he would probably still be trapped inside a painting. It'd be lucky for them if they could escape by themselves...but to be honest, they were more expecting to have to do the job themselves.
Though this Toad did not appear to be one of Professor E. Gadd's six assistants, Luigi and Zelda decided to console him anyway. Besides, they were wondering what he was doing in the mansion. It was possible that Princess Peach had sent him.
In addition, it would be a good idea to ask him some questions, in addition to his presence in the haunted mansion. He might know a thing or two about the ghosts inside the mansion. It seemed that many of the ghosts were ghosts that Luigi had faced before...but it didn't hurt to ask.
"What's wrong?" asked Luigi.
"Something terrible is inside that well!" exclaimed the Toad.
"Is it Mario trapped inside a painting?" inquired the man. That was where he had found him the last time under similar circumstances. That had certainly been frightening for him. Though at least he had discovered where he could find his brother.
"Good guess, but no! It's an old man who's trapped inside a painting! Not to mention the screaming..." noted the Toad. He might know that man, but he couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
"Was he wearing glasses?" asked Zelda.
"Yes, he was." nodded Toad.
"Was he wearing a lab coat?" inquired Luigi.
"Yes, he was." said Toad once again.
"Professor E. Gadd?" asked Zelda.
Curious, Luigi and Zelda decided to confirm this.
They climbed down the well and looked through the lion statue's head.
They could see a room through it.
It was none other than the secret altar. The old mansion hadn't changed too much.
Considering that it was golden, it was a lot brighter than the other rooms.
As it turned out, it was indeed the professor. He was hanging on the wall.
"I find this to be a cruel irony..." noted Professor E. Gadd. It looked as if his past of putting ghosts in portraits had come back to haunt him...along with the ghosts themselves.
To add insult to injury, some of the Boos drew on his portrait sometimes. Seemed they liked to scribble. It was their way of paying him back for hunting them down.
"I'll say!" exclaimed a scary voice.
There was no sign of Mario and Link, however.
Presumably, they were elsewhere inside the mansion.
They could also see Queen Boo...who strangely enough did not notice them.
Apparently, she was the scary voice that they had heard earlier.
It would probably be best if they didn't catch her attention. They didn't know what she was capable of, and chances are they weren't ready to fight her yet. Perhaps the Toads could help make their vacuum and scythe stronger once they had rescued them all.
But fortunately, it seemed that she was gazing at the painting so happily that she had lost her focus. She was like the king this way.
"You think we can grab the portrait and run?" asked Zelda.
"I'm-a afraid there's no way that we could-a fit through the statue..." noted Luigi. They could look through it, but squeezing through it was another matter.
"Oh." answered the princess.
"Wait, maybe if we-a use a Mini Mushroom, we could-a squeeze through!" exclaimed the young man.
"A Mini Mushroom, you say?" asked Zelda. She might not be familiar with Mario powerups, but it didn't take a genius to tell what that powerup did.
Luigi pulled out a Mini Mushroom.
However, as soon as he did so, the statue head clamped shut.
"I guess she-a thought of that." noted Luigi.
It was just as well. Using the minishroom would leave them in a vulnerable state. And that would be very bad when you were up against a ghost as powerful as Queen Boo.
"I take it we're going to have to find a way to get into that room?" asked Zelda.
"That's-a most likely...but we'll probably-a need lots of keys..." remarked the green plumber. That's what he needed last time. How many keys were in there in the mansion anyway?
Perhaps Vincent Van Gore had the key to that room? He did last time. Though times had changed to some extent.
"I guess maybe we should focus on rescuing the Toad assistants first then." acknowledged the princess. They seemed to be under less security than the rest of their friends.
Besides, according to one of Professor E. Gadd's instruction manuals, Boo commanders could use the power of the Boos to blow you away if there were too many Boos in the immediate area.
Luigi nodded in agreement.
He didn't want to sit back and watch the professor whimper anyway.
However, when they attempted to leave, they were suddenly attacked by Skeletal Cheep-Cheeps. He knew from experience that Cheep Cheeps could survive on land. Though these Cheep-Cheeps didn't need oxygen to begin with.
Luigi quickly began to vacuum them.
Ghost Bloopers appeared as well.
Zelda slashed them with her scythe.
"You're not turning me into fish food." said Zelda. Not if she had anything to say about it.
However, they began to squirt ink.
Luigi noted it would be best if they avoided that. It could potentially blind them.
And if they were blinded, it would make capturing the ghosts a lot more difficult. One could say they would get a taste of their own medicine given that one of the weapons they used against the ghosts was a flashlight.
Likewise, the Skeletal Cheep Cheeps spewed out bubbles.
As soon as they vacuumed up the last ghost (and skeleton), things suddenly became bright in the well.
Again, Luigi noted this seemed familiar.
They decided to comfort the Toad, who may or may not have been the same Toad that Luigi had encountered under similar circumstances.
"I sure hope that poor old man will be alright." noted Toad. He seemed like a good person. Was he friends with Mario by any chance? He had met a lot of people.
"We're trying to rescue him." answered Luigi.
Toad nodded.
"By the way, do you know where Mario is?" asked Toad. Without him he wasn't sure who was going to rescue the princess from Bowser. Thankfully, Bowser was busy racing karts with Koopa Troopas at the moment. But that was subject to change.
Why exactly did Mario race with him again? He thought the two of them were mortal enemies.
He was hoping that he would be able to find the Mushroom Kingdom's hero.
"You don't know either, huh." noted Zelda.
"Well, I heard one of the ghosts talking about the nice portraits in the throne room..." stated Peach's assistant.
"This mansion has a throne room?" asked Luigi. He found that to be odd. This wasn't a castle. Though it was similar in atmosphere to a haunted castle.
"Yeah..." nodded the Toad. It was kind of unusual considering that it was a mansion instead of a palace. Though the mansion was definitely big enough to be a palace.
But it wasn't too surprising considering that the Boos had two monarchs.
Zelda had the lingering suspicion that was where Mario and Link were. No doubt that they were being guarded by King Boo himself. Apparently, his royal highness decided not to let his minions guard them because they were too important. And he did have a personal vendetta against Mario.
However, it would be a long time before they could even get close to that room.
Still, they were making progress.
Fortunately, the Toad was in possession of a key.
"I found this! I guess I was so upset that I forgot that I had it..." noted Toad.
There was a sleeping Hammer that wasn't paying attention to it, so he decided to take it for himself.
So far, it seemed that the Hammer hadn't noticed.
"Thanks." said Luigi. He was glad that he had chosen to be nice to the Toad when he was feeling down in the dumps.
"Wait, you had a key the whole time?" asked Zelda.
"Well, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. But since you're exploring the mansion, maybe you'll find it useful." remarked the Toad.
Perhaps that key would indeed be useful to them.
It wouldn't be too surprising if there was a key that opened up a treasure chest, given how much treasure there was to be found in the mansion.
"By the way, maybe you should head to Professor E. Gadd's lab...it's not safe for you out here." noted Zelda. Especially since crying tended to be noisy. And the ghosts could hear despite lacking visible ears.
The Toad nodded and decided to do just that.
Fortunately for him, he wasn't discovered by the numerous ghouls that were lurking around the mansion.
Though they did escort him back just in case.
It was nice to take a break from the scariness of the mansion.
They wouldn't want to be away for too long though. After all, were Mario and Link not counting on them?
"Thanks for getting me out of there!" exclaimed the Toad. That spooky atmosphere was a bit too much for him. He might not have found Mario, but at least Luigi was doing OK.
The Red Toad and the Orange Toad waved hello.
"I guess we should figure out where this key leads." noted Zelda.
Luigi nodded.
As it turned out, it led to a billiards room.
Slim Bankshot was waiting for them in there.
He launched several pool balls at them.
"I remember him..." noted Luigi.
"And I remember you!" exclaimed Slim Bankshot.
He dropped lots of treasure. It was pretty helpful to obtaining a mansion of his own. And Professor E. Gadd was happy to have another portrait for his gallery.
However, rather than stay at his mansion, he mostly stayed at his house with his brother. Though maybe he could visit it if he successfully managed to save everyone along with Zelda.
Unfortunately, it now seemed Slim was looking for a rematch.
Chances are he was stronger this time.
That had been the case with the ghosts so far.
He launched an 8 ball at them.
It exploded like a bomb.
"Mamamia!" exclaimed Luigi, who was now coated with black soot.
It seems that he was much better prepared for a fight with Luigi this time. Portrait ghosts learned from their mistakes…by the looks of it.
Though to be fair, Luigi wasn't fighting him alone this time around, either. Catching ghosts was much easier when you worked in a pair. Professor E. Gadd probably should have considered that when he was in his prime.
The pool player noticed this.
"I see you brought a friend this time!" shouted Slim.
"Well, King Boo is better prepared for a fight than before." noted Luigi. He had gathered together new allies to bring him down.
"I know, right?" asked the pool player.
He launched multiple pool balls at Luigi.
However, Zelda slashed them with her scythe.
"Hmm. This might be more difficult than I thought." noted Slim Bankshot.
He launched a green pool ball at her.
When she slashed it, it formed toxic gas.
She began to cough.
"I don't feel so well." noted Zelda. Maybe she should have dodged that one instead.
Slim Bankshot then fired an orange ball.
It ignited the gas.
"Ow!" exclaimed Zelda.
"I'm on top of the game!" shouted Slim Bankshot.
"Wanna bet?" answered the princess.
She slashed Slim Bankshot in retaliation.
"Ow!" exclaimed Slim.
This girl was a fighter.
To make matters worse for Slim, this left his heart exposed.
Luigi began to vacuum him.
He ran away to avoid the vacuum.
The mustached hero lost the connection.
"Oof!" shouted Luigi.
Slim Bankshot then summoned Oozers.
"It makes me happy having other ghosts to play with. You can only have so much fun playing the game solo." noted Slim Bankshot.
He could see why Luigi didn't go into the mansion alone this time.
Zelda fought the Oozers, careful to dodge the pool balls.
Luigi focused on Bankshot.
He fired a blue ball at Luigi, which he ducked over.
It left a trail of ice on the floor.
Luigi shined his flashlight on Slim.
"Oh no!" exclaimed Slim.
Luigi then finished vacuuming Bankshot.
'You play pool pretty well." admitted Slim Bankshot was he was sucked into the vacuum.
Zelda finished off the Oozers.
The pool ghost dropped a key.
Where did this key lead?
Perhaps they should check the Gameboy Horror.
Something told them it didn't lead to the secret altar though.
It seemed much too early for that.
As it turned out, the key led to Nana's room.
"I get the feeling who we're going to find there." noted Luigi.
"A nana?" questioned Zelda.
"Yeah. Most likely the same one I encountered before." admitted the plumber who dressed in green.
For some reason she could shoot lasers out of her eyes.
Luckily, he figured out her weakness. If he shot balls of yarns of her, she would be stunned.
He would want to watch out for the obstacles in the room though.
If he wasn't careful, he would lose the connection.
Sure enough, Nana was waiting for them.
She was nothing but angry at Luigi.
"I'm very cross at you! You vacuumed up Chauncey twice!" exclaimed Nana. They had some nerve doing that.
In her mind, he was just a baby.
"But he attacked me." stated Luigi.
"I hit him with a ball but it was an accident." noted Zelda.
She wouldn't do that sort of thing on purpose.
Especially not to an infant.
Nana attempted to attack them by firing balls of yarn at them. To be honest, this made more sense than her shooting lasers out of her eyes.
The two scrambled to avoid them.
She then attempted to wrap them in yarn.
The ghost lady succeeded in wrapping up Luigi.
"Help!" exclaimed the plumber.
This yarn was surprisingly effective as a weapon.
Zelda used her scythe to cut him free.
"Thank you!" exclaimed the girl.
"Are Neville and Lydia sure Chauncey needs a nana? I'm pretty sure he can fend for himself." noted Zelda.
He could shrink anyone that tried to attack him.
She thought he was even stronger than his parents, personally.
Did he have any siblings by any chance? If so, she would want to watch out for them.
"He got caught by ghost hunters three different times, hasn't he?" questioned Nana. Personally she wanted them to leave her be so she could continue knitting.
"Good point." answered Zelda.
He was very strong for a baby though.
Nana fired lasers at Zelda.
"Ow! What kind of nanny fires lasers out of her eyes?!" exclaimed Zelda.
Luigi shrugged.
He fired a yarn ball at Nana, but she fired more lasers in retaliation.
"Ow!" exclaimed the mustached man. That was hot.
Nana let out a laugh.
But her smile would soon be erased.
Luigi fired another yarn ball, then shined the flashlight on Nana.
She gasped.
Zelda then captured Nana.
"At least I finished my scaaaaaaarrrffff!" exclaimed Nana as she was sucked in. In the afterlife, you had a lot of time on your hands.
The next key led to the twins' room…which was right next to Chauncey's.
"It looks like I'm facing Henry and Orville again." noted Luigi.
"Henry and Orville?" asked Zelda.
"They like to play hide and seek." explained the plumber in green.
"I see." answered the girl.
Together, the two went to the twins' room.
Could they defeat the two? The odds seemed fair this time, now that it wasn't two against one.
"Let's a-go!" exclaimed Luigi.
Well, now they know where Professor E. Gadd is. But who knows how they'll get in that room? They'll most likely need lots and lots of keys.
As a side note, I got Luigi's Mansion for the 3DS.
Lucky me!
I also got Luigi's Mansion 3 as well. And Dark Moon.
