SHOUT OUT TO KURO FURASSHU FOR BEING MY FIRST REVIEWER! Sorry guys for not posting in a while, here's chapter three!
As I drove, my head began to clear, my heart rate slowed, and eventually, I was normal again... on the outside. On the inside, I knew the strange, fiery creature still lurked inside, waiting for a moment of vulnerability to pounce. It was a miracle I didn't get pulled over, as I was going twice the legal limit. It wasn't until reaching New York the next day that I realized there was one crucial flaw in my plan. I had no idea where the Cullen's lived. I didn't even have a street name to go off of! And I couldn't very well go around ringing doorbells and asking if Edward Cullen lived there! That could have been the end right there, I'd have had to give up and go home, but fortunately, luck was on my side. I parked and got out of the car, thinking I'd do some investigating for clues, and started walking through a small neighborhood. It was a cloudy day but fairly warm, and a few people were out for walks. That was when I heard two voices discussing something.
"I'm worried, Jasper." The voice said. "He's hardly moved since we left! You know what he's feeling, do you think we can help?" She asked nervously. "I- I don't think so," Jasper said quietly. "Edward's been-" I didn't hear anything else he said. My hands were shaking with... I wasn't sure what exactly. Nerves? Anger? Excitement? Doing my best to seem inconspicuous, I watched them, only moving closer if absolutely necessary. Finally, the pair entered a large, nice-looking house. I paused, reviewing what I should say and what I shouldn't, and gathering my courage.
Cullen's POV (3rd person):
Emmett looked up as Jasper and Alice entered the house. Clarise and Esme were gone, leaving Emmett, Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, and Edward alone. They were all gathered in the kitchen (except for Edward who was moping in his bedroom), none of them really sure what to do. It was just one of those days where the world seems dull and empty, with nothing to do at all. None of them would say it out loud (so as not to drive Edward insane), but they all missed Bella, even Rosalie. Life was so boring these days! Had it been that boring before Bella came into their lives? No one could remember. "I wish something interesting would happen," Emmett complained. "Or at least Edward would stop moping around and go back to being himself." He lowered his voice. Even though normally this would be pointless due to Edward's mind reading, he'd been wrapped up in his own miserable mind these days. "I know," Alice said sadly. "It's almost like he- Oh!" she suddenly cried, running to the door. A few seconds later, the doorbell rang. The Cullens exchanged glances. No one ever came to see them! Who could be here now?
Demi's POV (1st person):
Taking a deep breath, I rang the doorbell, waiting. It was a moment before the door opened. "I'm looking for Edward Cullen..." I trailed off when I met the eyes of the people at the door. They were pale, too pale to be normal, and inhumanly beautiful! They weren't human. They were vampires! A vampire? What had Bella been thinking?! Emotion flooded me, and I knew what was about to happen. I had no choice. I bolted. I didn't stop until I reached an alleyway where no one would see me. And then the memories flooded me.
Cullen's POV (3rd person):
Standing at the door was a human girl, looking to be maybe eighteen. She looked... vaguely familiar. "I'm looking for Edward Cullen..." She said, trailing off when she saw our faces. Her brown eyes grew wide and terrified, and they could hear her heart rate increase drastically. She opened and closed her mouth, pure terror on her face, and then she bolted. The four Cullens blinked at each other. "What was that?" Emmett asked. "No idea," Rosalie responded. "Have any of you seen her in your lives? Because I certainly haven't but she knew Edward." Alice said. They all shook their heads, except for Jasper who looked rattled. "Jasper, what's wrong?" Alice asked. "She was so terrified," Jasper muttered. "We got that, Jasper," Emmett said. "No, like I think she knows what we are." He muttered. They all froze. "But how could she?" Emmett recovered first. "I don't know." Jasper shook his head. "But somehow, she did."
Demi's POV (1st person):
Jay and I were walking down a dark street, our arms linked, laughing, when suddenly I stopped and looked around. We must have taken a wrong turn. "I think we made a wrong turn," I said. Jay nodded in agreement. "let's go back the way we came." He suggested. We tried to find our way back but only found ourselves getting more and more lost until we found ourselves in a dark alleyway. "Well, the zombie apocalypse is starting," I said. "What?" He laughed. I rolled my eyes. "In every movie ever, the teens get lost and end up in a dark, creepy alleyway, and then the zombie apocalypse starts," I explained, only to realize he wasn't next to me! "Jay?" I asked. The next thing I knew, something grabbed me around the waist. I shrieked as Jay spun me around, making zombie noises. "Jay!" I laughed. "Put me down!" He did, but not before pulling me in for a kiss. The next thing I did was pull out my phone to call Renee, but suddenly I heard a voice. "My my, you two stopped by at the perfect time." Said a voice from the shadows. Then something lunged, shoving me to the ground, hard. I started screaming and Jay stepped forward protectively, but the figure grabbed him by his neck, ready to sink his teeth in. Rage filled me as I struggled to get to my feet, and then there was fire everywhere! Smoke filled my lungs and I tried to scream but couldn't! Suddenly, I realized the fire was on me! Burning me, burning my hair, my clothes, everything! "Somebody help!" I screamed. Someone else was screaming too, and Jay was yelling. Through my blurry vision, I saw the creature leave, and I collapsed to the ground in relief. The fire went out, and that's when I realized it had been coming from me all along! Looking down, I saw almost claw-like red nails, and in what was left of my hair, I saw red tips. I was covered in burns, my clothes were ripped and charred, and my shirt was hardly intact. "Jay," I whispered, looking at him with terrified eyes. He took a step back. "Stay away from me!" His voice was shaking, and there were tears in his eyes, but he seemed to mean it. "Jay?" I asked desperately, stumbling forward. "Demi." He said sharply. "Jay, please!" I begged, reaching out for him. I reached my hand out to touch his face, and he shoved me away, causing me to fall to the ground with a cry of pain! I looked up at him, hurt in my eyes. In his eyes, I saw a hint of guilt, although he hadn't meant to shove me. "Jay, I'm sorry! I don't know what that was!" I cried desperately, trying one more time. "I said STAY AWAY FROM ME YOU FREAK!" He shouted. I burst into tears. "You want me to stay away from you?! Well fine!" I shouted, pushing past him. He had a look of pure guilt on his face as I ran off into the night. "Demi! Demi, wait!" He called after me.
I curled into a ball, sobbing as memory after memory washed over me. After that incident, I had kept my mind off of Jay by finding out everything I could about vampires. But at night, I had no choice. Every night I would have nightmares about fire, vampires, and Jay... Renee made me start going to therapy, as she was terribly concerned when I came home late, without Jay, covered in burns. That was why she hadn't let me go with Bella when she left. She thought moving would be too much for me. After about an hour, I ran out of tears. Shakily, I rose to my feet. I understood exactly what Bella was feeling now. Now that I knew how similar our experiences had been, I understood. And Edward would pay. Because no one hurts my sister.
This chapter was so sad yet so fun to write, hope you enjoy!
