Chapter 12: Shooting Star part 2
Toji got up, slightly shocked. He looks at Romeo then frowns.
"Listen kid, while I don't enjoy killing kids and usually avoid doing so if possible, I don't have a problem doing so either. So why don't you just run along and leave the girl to me. Hell I'll even let you take the cat and babysitters with you."
"I can't and I won't. Not only will that smear Fairy Tails' name, I won't be able to look at myself or my father if I leave a girl to suffer while I can help it. I took this job. I've been assigned to protect them and I intend to see it through."-Romeo determined.
"Don't say I didn't try."-Toji sigh, then rush in to stab Romeo.
Romeo barely managed to dodge, blasting energy from his feet to gain some distance.
"Stella Dragon, Roar" Romeo attack
Toji easily dodge the beam and close their distance in an instant, preparing for a kick.
"Stella Dragon, Asteroid Kick" Romeo managed to counter.
The two kick collided, knocking Romeo to the side.
Romeo quickly regained his balance. He thought his leg was broken, which thankfully it wasn't. Blasting from his feet again, Romeo create more distance between them this time.
"Stella Dragon, Shooting Star" Romeo fires off bullets of light towards Toji.
Toji rushes forward, blocking each bullets with his blade.
Romeo noticed something weird when Toji blocked his bullets, it's just disappeared. It doesn't explode like it normally does, it's just gone.
He doesn't have time to ponder though as Toji quickly closes in. As Toji gets in front of Romeo, Romeo jumps up.
"Stella Dragon, Wing Attack"
The attack lands. Toji couldn't block with his blade in time but the attack only hurt him slightly.
Romeo is in trouble, and he knows it. Toji is clearly stronger, faster, tougher, and more skilled than he is. His only advantages are versatility and range due to Toji's lack of magic.
He could try and hit Toji with one of his stronger attacks, but it'll just be a waste of energy if he can dodge it. He needs to immobilize Toji first.
As Toji regains his footing, a stream of water not bigger than a pencil blast towards him at high speed. Toji block the attack with his forearm, turns to look at the direction it came from, and saw Etha.
"I'm not a fighter, but I'm still a mage. And I refuse to just stand by and watch while a boy is risking his life fighting."-Etha declares
"Wait your turn, I got paid to kill you too."-Toji glares.
"Stella Dragon, Concentrated Light" Romeo fires at Toji. Speed is one of this attack's greatest strength, so it's unsurprising when it actually hits him in his chest. Toji grunts in pain.
He then moves his blade to block the attack. To everyone's shock, the attack got absorbed by the blade.
"Not bad kid. That actually hurt." Toji pant. Blood leaking from his chest where it was hit.
Toji then fires off a blast from his blade at Romeo. Which Romeo eats, shocking him back.
"Right. You're a dragon slayer. Of course you can do that. Well I guess as a form of reward for actually hurting me, I'll tell you what this blade is."-Toji gasp a little, Romeo's attack clearly dealt more damage than first seen.
"This is the Inverted Spear of Heaven, or at least the blade part of the spear. It's capable of absorbing all form of energy like fire, electricity, even lacrima, and release it in the form of pure Ethernano blast."-Toji explained. Unbeknownst to everyone, he's buying time. The worm creature on his shoulder started bulging.
"On certain organisms, the blade can even empowers them. Such as this."-Toji swing the blade towards the worm's face. It then vomits out a sack filled with eggs.
Toji stabbed the sack. It then exploded, releasing a swarm of insects flying towards everyone at high speed.
"They're poison."-Romeo realized.
Etha unleashed a massive wave of water, drowning a portion of the swarm. The ones that got away approaches everyone.
Romeo fires off energy blast, keeping the insects from getting to him. Etha overwhelmed, not used to dealing with these situations. Luckily Max and Laki got up in time to help defend her and Julieta.
Romeo then noticed that Toji hasn't make a move yet. Looking over, he saw him checking on his wound, like he's expecting/waiting for something. Romeo then realized that Toji's waiting for the wound to heal.
"Great, so he's got a healing factor too."-Romeo
Knowing he can't let it happen, Romeo did something many would call suicidal. He run past the swarm of insects, taking many attacks, and begins attacking Toji.
Toji's movement is hindered due to his wounds, leaving him open to attack.
"Stella Dragon, Asteroid punch" The attack lands.
Romeo then follows up with a barrage of punches and kicks, not giving Toji the chance to recover. This last for a while until his body start to succumb to the poison.
Toji managed to land a punch thanks to this, knocking Romeo back. This allows Toji to notice something, Romeo's body is glowing, releasing orbs of light.
In fact, the whole area has been covered in orbs of light. Has he been releasing them this whole time, if so why?
Romeo is then assaulted with all the remaining insects swarm. Wait, all of them? What happened to the others?
As Toji looks towards where they were, he saw no trace of them. Not even a body. He then looked up and saw Keenan struggling to carry Julieta, Etha, Max and Laki away from the fight.
Toji prepared to chase after until he realized that he can't move his legs. Looking down, he saw that they've been caught in quicksand.
Back when Max and Laki tried to stop Toji
Keenan flies over to check on Romeo, who managed to push himself on his knees.
"Get to a safe area and if I'm starting to act reckless, grab everyone and get as far from here ad you can."-Romeo commands before Keenan even said anything.
"What are-"-Keenan
"You heard me, and don't try to argue back."-Romeo got up then fire off his attack, getting Toji's attention. Keenan has to flies off.
When Romeo ran through the swarm of insects
Keenan flies in and grab everyone.
"Keenan what are-"-Laki
"Romeo ordered me to grab you guys and leave if he start to act reckless, and that's pretty reckless to me."-Keenan
"We can't just leave him like this!"-Max yells
"We have to. We're just dead weight to him."-Keenan
"But we need to help him somehow."-Laki
"We could try to immobilize that man."-Etha
"How?"-Keenan
"By making quicksand"-Etha
The brief exchange between Romeo and Toji prior left many large holes and cracks perfect for a quicksand traps. As fast as they could, taking advantage of Romeo's current assault on their attacker, everyone got together make as many quick sand area as possible.
Etha and Max use their magic to fill up holes and cracks with quicksand mixture, soaked enough for Toji to fall through the sand but dense enough so that he can't get out as easily. Laki is to protect everyone while Keenan is prepared to grab everyone at a moment's notice.
Romeo noticed this and purposely pushed Toji towards one of the quicksand locations.
Toji tries to move, but Romeo's constant attack plus his wound on the chest makes moving his body extremely difficult.
"Stella Dragon, Constellations Clusters"-Romeo, unleashing even more light orbs.
"Your blade can absorb energy, but only directly. Let's see how you withstand something like this by yourself."-Romeo
Toji tries to move, but the quicksand still holds him in place.
"Stella Dragon, Bursting Stars"
A massive chain of explosions cover the area. Reduce everything in sight to ash.
