Another update.
A car drove down a winding mountain path. Thick forest surrounding the road and mountain for miles upon miles. A beautiful sight. One I felt happy to have.
Looking ahead at the winding path as I drove towards town I thought about my life.
I was born into the Samson family. A nice loving family that did almost everything together. Lots of good memories. I had three siblings and happy parents. Doesn't mean we always got along, but that's life.
As I grew I kept noticing how much better everyone was at something.
Parents were pharmacists that made tons of money. Enough to get us all into collage. Didn't mean we all wanted to go.
Darron was amazingly athletic having made to some big league soccer thing. I don't know it's been a while. He always was bringing home gold medals, had dozens of girlfriends who hung off his arms like the trophy's he always got. A playboy who always got what he wanted. But he loved us, even if he was a bit much for me most of the time. Always made time for me when I was young.
Missy was always book smart had a keen eye for noticing things. Became a detective in the Big Apple. Solving lots of crimes. Growing up with three brothers made her feel like she had something to prove. Always stressed, but said it was a good stress. Kept her sharp. I worry, how is she.
Andy went to medical school. Learning to become a great doctor. Always was the smartest of the bunch, help me so much in school I would've failed if not for him. Loved games.
Meanwhile there was me. The youngest. An asshole who can't remember shit. The most mediocre of a family who exceeds all expectations. Expectations that crushed me. That I let crush me. Expectations that I let push me away from them.
Then one day whilst I was twenty our estranged uncle who I had never known existed had called me. Inviting me to visit him in Grainwood.Having just been a drifter at the age of twenty I accepted.
He had a house off in the ass end of nowhere. Took me hours to find it. When I arrived there he and I talked and he eventually gave me an opportunity.
He was sick never told me with what, told me he felt he had not much time. I accepted even though I didn't want to. Didn't have anything else to do. He then showed me how to keep his old house in a good state. Taught me enough to become an electrician, carpenter and a plumber if I wanted to. I just do jobs for the town. Good money.
Not long after he passed away. And I took his place. Old man left me a note not to open the chest in the attic. It freaks me out.
That's when I met Keith. The only guy I could stand for longer than an hour. The only person I could call a friend in this life. Now I got some museum trip today.
Dragging myself out of my thoughts I focused on the road. A sign passed me by.
Welcome to Grainwood!
Population 2,293
I'm almost there.
Parking in front of a large building I read its sign. The Grainwood Museum.
"Silva! If it isn't our resident handyman come out of hiding."
Turning to look at the approaching person who called my name I greeted them.
"Mister Grahm it's been a while."
"it has been my boy."
Shaking hands with the older man I examined his face. Around early sixties salt and pepper hair cut short and a well cared for beard. Glasses. Dressed casually. Never did like formality's.
"I see you forgot my face again. And what did I say about calling me Mister Grahm. Call me Stephan."
Rubbing the back of my neck I smiled.
"Sorry Mister Gra- ahem Stephan. Force of habit."
"Of course. Come inside we'll speak in the main lobby."
Leading me to the building he continued talking.
"I was worried Keith wouldn't invite anyone. He's a known loner, but I'm glad he has someone as responsible as you to watch his back."
"Keith is a good person. Im happy to have him as a friend."
Smiling Stephan started to lead me into the building. Stopping in the main lobby he turned to me.
"This is where I'll leave you. The tour starts in 10 minutes so make yourself a bit cosy as we prepare."
"Of course Mister Grahm."
Shaking his head he smiled and headed towards a door with a sign reading 'Employees only'. Before heading in he called back.
"It's Stephan!"
With that he left me to my devices. Looking around I found a bench to sit down on and took my phone out to play games. There was only about fourteen people here. Then again this Museum only had about 7 employees as guides.
Around five minutes later a person sat by beside me.
"Excited?"
Looking up I saw a boy around the age of nineteen. Why was he talking to me? My head felt fuzzy.
"Because this is where it changes for us all."
I tilted my head trying to clear the fog that suddenly clouded it.
"What do you mean? Who are you?"
The teen chuckled, but it sounded distorted.
"You have a part of the Core. That makes the First Tool very interested in you. You'll be the best host for it."
Core? First Tool? This doesn't make any sense.
I shook my head turning away from him, my head felt like a hot iron poker was shoved in it. Everything was spinning.
"Look. Focus on my next words. Trust it and you will succeed. Bye for now."
Trust what?
My head started to stop hurting. Looking back to him I saw nothing looking up to the crowd I saw no one looking at me. Why was I looking?
Shaking my head once more I stood up. The tour was a bout to start. Then as though speaking of the devil Mister Grahm's voice echoed in the lobby.
"Everyone may I please have you attention. The tour is now starting may I have you all walk through the doors that are now open. Once there our employees will find you and guide you towards anything you may find interesting. The VIP treatment if you will. Please enjoy the event as we have a very special surprise at the end."
At that we all walked towards the doors that opened. Our guides greeting us as we entered the room. My guide of course being Keith.
Ok that's where I'm gonna end it. As you probably this story is a bit slow paced, don't worry the action comes very soon. Have a good one.
