Capitulo 4
The next morning, Regina was having doubts that Edna would last at the Agency. she was just not a good fit.
The young president of High Concept walked into her office that morning, to August playing a prank on her secretary. She watched with amusement before making her face serious, and speaking to the two. " just what is going on here?"
August nearly pissed his pants not having noticed the President walk into her office. Edna just stood there rethinking her entire life looking between Regina and A tall handsome man who had yet to identify himself to her.
"August, how many times have I told you to stop bothering the new people?"
"She's so brand new Ms. Mills, It's just a little hazing to integrate her into the group."
"You just concentrate on your Job, Did you get what I asked for?" Regina continued and Just like that Emma knew that she had been duped and dismissed. She was a little angry at herself for falling for it. But mostly she was sad because a Hazing usually meant that she was going to continue receiving abuse.
"Yeah here you go, I paid everything." August said
"Excellent." Regina answered then looked at Emma. "Don't you have work to do?"
Emma shook her head just as Jeffrey walked into the office. "I don't have my computer yet."
"What?" Regina said and called IT right away. She was assured that Emma would have her office set up by the afternoon.
"Thank you," Emma said
"Don't mention it…" Regina said and trailed off spotting her personal agenda sitting on her desk. "What is this?" Regina asked Emma. "Why is this here?"
"I figured you might need it today." Emma replied
"My agenda does not need to be floating all around the building willie nillie." Regina growled.
"It's like leaving th holy grail floating around." Jeffrey added.
This book holds personal information about me and any one else that I might have wanted to keep in contact with from my past. " Regina stated. "Do you understand what I mean?"
Emma nodded. In response.
"Lily wants to get access tothis information and it should never ever be discussed. With anyone at all. Not even my family and especially Not Robin. These pages hold my very intimate thoughts and knowing who my friends are not in the cards for Robin. These are my private thoughts and I am leaving them in your hands. Get it?"
"Yes Ms. Mills." Emma said
"In this way no one should know who calls my private line. You only discuss that with me. No matter who asks for it. "
"Yes Ms. Mills." she took the book and all of her things into the room, and Regina finally sat down at her desk.
She shook hear head, this just wasn't working. This woman was going to prove to be her demise.
"I'm here Regina!" Lily said breezily as she walked into Regina's office without knocking.
Regina grit her teeth and smiled. "OOH Lily! Thank you so much for coming today."
"No thanks is necessary Regina please…" Lilly said
"I'm just so glad to see you, you have no idea." Regina said.
"Why are you acting like this?"
"No its nothing its just that last night there was this big event and I was hoping you would be here just in case I needed something, but you had already left."
"My bad Regina, but Robin took me out to eat. "
"Ah, Robin!" Regina said animatedly. "Well I guess he's your boss now?"
What?" Lily said as Robin walked through Regina's Office.
"You Should Tell Me At Least When You Are Leaving So That I Know Not To count On You to be there . Furthermore, come To Work On Time. If you Aren't here, There is no one To answer The Phones."
Robin quirked an eyebrow "Don't you have another Secretary?" He asked folding his arms across his chest. "Can't she answer the phones?"
Regina gave him a death glare. "That's not Edna's Job, that job belongs To Lily."
"Lily, give us a moment please?" Robin said to his friend. Once she was gone, he turned to her and asked. "Regina, I heard you gave your private books to the other secretary. I'm not criticizing your ways but you already gave the other girl all of the important things, why not give Lily the job of keeping your Agenda and your private calls?"
"Sure, you want Lily to have access to my schedule so you can keep tabs on me?" Regina stated.
"Of Course not."
"Of course? We have only been working together for one full day and you already know all that goes on in here."
"She told me because we are friends," Robin defended his position just barely keeping his anger in check.
"Sure."
"She isn't trying to cause a conflict, she is fine with the work you gave her." Robin stated.
"Oh great! So it's you that are not satisfied."
"I just want to know if you really have changed. Or if you are just playing pretend."
"Well if that's how you feel, maybe we shouldn't be getting married." Regina said, looking away from Robin. She was bluffing but she wanted to see where he would land on this one.
"So now you don't want to marry me?"
"Well if marrying you means I have to lose power over my private life, then what is my hope for the future?" Regina asked. "I'm sorry, but if I have to give that woman access to my private thoughts to keep you happy, then I would rather not."
"You prefer giving your private thoughts to a stranger instead."
"She couldn't care less about my private life, but Lily does and you even more."
"The only thing that you care about is keeping in touch with your many lovers… they are going to keep coming after you even if you are married."
"What lovers Robin?" Regina shouted. "Don't you think if I were really that free with my intimate relations someone was bound to come out and say something by now? I don't take clandestine meetings that's not wat Edna is here for."
"Whatever, Regina," Robin said disgusted. Regina sighed and reached for him.
"Robin, love, We announced that we were getting married." She sighed and took his hand pulling him closer. "I am not ashamed of us. If I were doing such things, that would be the last thing I'd want to announce."
Emma sat in her office off to the side, listening tho this entire thing then the phone rang, and she answered.
It was Ashley. She stated, with a voice that betrayed major tea behind it, That One of Regina's girlfriends was in the lobby.
Fuck… she had just heard the name spat out on the other side of the door.
Regina growled that she didn't entertain sapphic thoughts and that friendship was just like the friendship between him and Lily.
Emma interrupted then…. Hoping that shit didn't get more complex. She cleared her throat timidly. Emma timidly approached Regina. "Ms. Mills, a word please?." Robin narrows his eyes.
"Can it wait?" Regina asked annoyed.
"No, it's an emergency, but it won't take but a moment." Emma insisted.
"Alright." Regina sighed and followed Emma to her office. "What is it?"
"One of your girlfriends is in reception… she… um is insisting on talking to you." Emma said softly.
"What?" Regina stated. "Oh my god… no, send her away. I don't want to talk with her. Tell her I am in a meeting."
Regina then walked out of Emma's office and back to the glowering Robin. She smiled nervously and sat at her desk.
Emma tried letting reception know of the answer, and the girlfriend said that she would wait. So Emma decided to go check for herself.
"The problem persists in HR, but I'll take care of it." she rushed down to the lobby, for damage control. She was so not equipped for this. "Hey, hi are you here to see Ms. Mills?"
"Yep, can I go see her now?" The tall blonde leggy model type said standing.
Instinctively, Emma stood up straighter. She knew she wasn't attractive. Her face was marked with acne scars and she had prominent tiger stripes from pregnancy and her little kangaroo pooch that never went away. But she wasn't going to slouch. Immediately Emma knew that this was what her life here was going to be now. Blow after blow to her self esteem… forget all kinds of education she was never going to be considered deserving.
"Nope she is in a meeting right now, and we don't know when it will end." She said her annoyance coming through in her words. "I think it is best that you go, I will have her call you later."
"Is she with Robin? Because I have some words for him too." The woman said.
Emma sighed in frustration, and had the girl wait. "Fine, wait here. She glanced at Ashley and picked up her cell and started to email the front desk as she got on the elevator. : give me 5 minutes and call Regina's line, I have an idea.
Then she texted Regina
She will not leave, I have an idea to get you out of your argument give me five minutes.
She sent the text and put her phone in her pocket just before walking into the office and noting Regina glancing at the phone.
Emma made up a meeting with a supplier. That's the best she could do. And came back out to talk to her. "Ms. Mills, Mr. Hernandez from VIdeo Arts was on the phone he said he was waiting to see if your meeting with him was still on?"
Robin looked at Emma, then back to Regina, eyes narrowed.
"Oh, shoot I almost forgot… " the President said feigning having forgotten this made up fact. She turned to her fiancé. "Hey Robin I gotta get going, We'll talk more later?" Regina reached for her bag.
"Yeah I am sorry I didn't let you know before, but I'm just getting to know your agenda." Emma stated.
"Yeah no problem." Regina said. " just be sure to get a daily run down for me first thing every morning ". Then the president rushed down to the lobby. When she got there she called her angry girlfriend Carla over, and pulled her bawdily out of the building. "Follow me… quickly."
Up on the fourth floor, Emma heard Lily tell Robin about Regina's girlfriend in the Lobby. Emma cursed under her breath and rushed to her own office at a loss for what to do. In an attempt to find cover, she called Jefferson, The vice president, she could already tell that he would cover Regina if he knew what was happening.
When he answered she spoke quickly knowing that Robin would descend upon her once Lily was done with her toxic gossip train. "Mr. Jefferson? It's Emma Swan Regina's secretary? You need to call Video arts and talk with Alberto Hernandez and let him know that if someone asks for Regina, to say that he is waiting for her…"
"Wait a minute, why?"
"Ms. Mills is in hot water with Mr. Locksley, because Some girl named Carla came looking for her. And I covered her with a meeting at Video Arts"
"What? Sexy carla was here?" he said then cleared his throat, "I'll take care of it."
Just then Robin walked into her office menacingly. "Where is Regina?" he said.
Emma moved back a bit as she hung up the phone. "On her way to a meeting." Emma squeaked.
"No she isn't, I was told that she left with a model named Carla and I want to know where they went."
Emma shrugged. "I don't know where she went. They called her for the meeting, she left… that's all I know."
"Yeah Sure… She's there at Viedeo Arts… why don't you call? Go on… call."
"Right now?" Emma asked.
"NOW!" Robin screamed.
"That was unnecessary… I don't even think she's there yet." Emma said reaching for the phone to call. "Hey there, could you pass me to Alberto Hernandez? Mr. Robin Locksley would like to speak with him…" She glanced at him then away. "Yah sure I'll hold." His presence made her nervous. She didn't like him crowding her like that. "Hi Mr. Hernadez, Please hold for Mr. Locksley."
Robin snatched the phone from Emma's grasp and turned on a charming smile. "Hey Alrberto, how are you?" he waited for the response "That's great, haven't talked to you since the last time we used your services, hey… could you give Regina the phone?"
She waited and looked over at Emma with eyes narrowed. "You say she isn't there?" He paused… "Oh, you're waiting for her… great when she gets there tell her to call me. Talk to you soon! Bye!"
He hung up angrily and turned to Face Emma "She isn't there."
Emma shrugged, "well you know… Mid day Traffic." then the phone rang again. "Hello?"
"Edna, it's me. What happened?"
"Ms. Regina Mills is not here, who's asking?" Emma said, turning away from Robin.
"Is Robin still with you?" Regina stated.
"Yes" Emma said, "Yes of course, but she said she would be back later, can I take a message?"
Robin watched her like a hawk and Emma wished this dude would take his pine scented ass out of the very confined space that was her office.
"Say it's Ralf Manning from Central Casting." Regina said.
Emma wrote that out in front of Robin's eyes.
"Hey, did Robin figure out what happened?" Regina asked on the other end.
"Yes, That's right." Emma said hating having to talk in code. "Miss Mills should call once she gets to her meeting So I can let her know then."
"Wait…" Regina paused, "Are you telling me that I need to call from Videos Arts?"
"Yes sir." Emma said. "She's in a meeting there."
"Oh my god…" Regina said. "Don't tell me Robin called there to check up on me."
"That's right," Emma said as Robin got even closer. "Though I think She might be stuck in traffic, you know how it is."
"Fine, I'll go down there and give him a call." Regina said with a sigh. "Hey, Edna? Thank you."
Emma smiled for the first time in this tense situation. "Perfect, Talk later." and hung up the phone. "That was for her." Emma said to Robin sheepishly.
"I heard…" Robin said and turned. "When she calls back, send her my way."
Regina and Carla were sitting in a small cafe not too far from the office. "You and I are going to have a serious discussion Regina." Carla said.
"Carla, there is nothing for you and I to talk about. Please understand." Regina said. "We had a great night, But that was what that was."
"You told me that you didn't love Robin," She said. "You said that you would never marry him because ever since you had discovered yourself you had been questioning that relationship." Then she picked up the magazine she had been carrying. "And look at that, you are making your way down that isle. "
"Carla, I'm straight… mostly, and it's just. These plans couldn't be broken, okay?" Regina said. "Forget about me please Carla!" her phone rang and she noticed it was Robin's number.
"Who was that?" Carla asked, "Was that Robin? why don't you woman up and let him know that you don't like dick."
"Because that isn't true!" Regina said. "There is nothing between you and I and it will not happen again. you wanted to see me and that I tell you face to face. I am doing it, why do you insist on going down this road?" Regina stood. "So I'm Begging you please, leave me alone. And don't come back to my place of business or I'll have security escort you out."
"Robin is going to find out about all of this." Carla shouted after Regina.
"Don't threaten me with a good time." Regina stated. "Do you think Robin is mad because I was with a woman, he's mad because I didn't share you, you know how men are. You're lucky I respect you. So don't come back or your Modeling career will be over. Got it?"
Regina walked away from her and headed straight for Video Arts to get her phone call in.
Emma sat at her desk calculating the budget when Lily marched in. "Give me Regina's agenda."
Emma looked up at the beauty. She was beautiful and Emma would be attracted to her except for that false sense of superiority that she had. "You mean her Private Agenda?"
"That's what I said." Lily said.
"No."
"Robin needs it." Lily said extending her hand.
"Then he should have asked me for it when he was standing over me… and the answer would still be no." Emma said glad to have put it in the drawer, next time she will lock it with a key.
"Robin is her Fiancé." Lily stated. "Give it to me."
"So sorry, I like my job, thank you." Emma said. Then Lily turned and left the mousy blonde to figure out where best to hide this hot button item..
Then shortly Robin barged into her office. Emma was really starting to rethink this entire situation. "What do you mean you won't give me her Agenda."
"It was Ms. Mills' orders.."
"Listen you… do you know who I am?"
"Yes of course I do." Emma said. "You are Robin Locksley, but my orders were give it to no one. She didn't make any exceptions, I'm sorry."
"Look I am not bout to argue with you." Robin said advancing on her, "Give me the agenda." Robin reached to pull the agenda from her hands. Emma did not let go. "Listen, not only am I her fiance, but I am also a shareholder of this company, I order you to hand the agenda over to me immediately."
"Mr. Locksley, Please understand. She threatened my livelihood over this agenda, and I am going to follow her orders."
"Well if you don't give it to me now, I will destroy your livelihood." He snarled, and the phone rang. The two of them looked at the device, Then back at each other. "Well Answer it!" He shouted at her.
Emma turned to answer. "Regina Mills office."
It was Regina and Emma could cry. "I'm in Video Arts, Is Robin still there?"
"Y- Yes Ms. Mills, Here he is." Then Emma handed Robin the phone.
"Where are you?" He answered, and Emma sank down in her seat clutching at the stupid little book that almost killed her today. She listened as Robin accused and wished she was anywhere but trapped where she was.
"Oh do you want to come here to make sure that I am where I say I am?" Regina stated glad to have gotten to the place in record time. She sat at the secretary's desk and continued. "You know what Robin? This isn't working. You are getting worse and worse. "Tell me, do you really want to confirm that I have changed, or do you plan on tracking me down to see if I am really where I say I am? Is this what life with you is supposed to be?"
"So you want to cancel our wedding?" Robin asked angrily.
"Well you have the answer, "
"Fine Regina, we'll talk tonight in my apartment."
"Sure, yeah." Regina answered. "I'm going to go back to my meeting."
Then Regina hung up, winked at the secretary and decided she was going to go treat herself for some Ice Cream. This afternoon had been ridiculously stressful.
In Emma's, office Robin slammed the receiver down and turned to her. "So you didn't know anything about that woman!"
Emma blinked. "Who?"
Just then Jefferson opened the door. "Hey whatever …"
"What do you want, Jefferson?" Robin attacked.
"I was just looking for Regina." He said a bit in shock.
"She's at Video Arts." Emma spoke up.
"Right… she had a meeting with Hernadez right?" He backed up uncertain to leave Emma there with that agro man. "Just let me know when she's back please."
"Yes Mr. Hatter." Emma stated.
Robin looked between the two of them and turned back to Emma. "You better be telling me the truth." Then he stomped his way out of the room.
Emma sank down into the seat still afraid to let go of the Agenda. Then Mulan came to her door. "Hey, My boss Mr. Hatter wants you to go over to his office." she said.
Emma nodded Just as the phone rang. It was her mother letting her know that they had made a deposit on a used car for her father, since his was always breaking down. Her salary was meant to help pay for the purchase, and Emma was more than happy to contribute to this.
"What does it look like?"
"Oh Emma, it's a beautiful blue truck." Mother said.
"That's great, Hey I see you later the vice president needs me." Emma stated. And quickly hung up heading over to Mr. Hatter's office. She told him everything that had happened.
"I was lucky enough to get a hold of Hernandez or else right now we would be burying Regina and cremating you."
"So graphic Mr. Hatter." Emma smirked. "Only thing is now I'm in Mr. Locksley's crosshairs. He asked me for Her Agenda and I refused."
"Don't worry. That man is hateful by nature. The important thing is to stay on Regina's good side." He leaned forward. "If you had given that to Robin, Regina would have destroyed you.
"Yeah, Never getting on her bad side, even if I lose my job." Emma stated.
There was a knock on the door, and Mulan peeked in. "Emma, you're needed in Ms. Mills office."
"Your boss must be back." Jefferson stated.
Emma nodded and headed back. But it wasn't Regina, it was Robin, Lily, and Ursula at the door. "Did you send for me?"
"Yes I did." Robin said. "Ursula."
Emma looked at the black woman that kept looking at her with disdain. She pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Emma. "This is for you."
"You are pink slipping me?" Emma said looking at the smug looking man and his friend, who barred her from going into her office. No doubt to keep her from hiding that agenda.
"If you had played it my way, this wouldn't be happening to you." Robin said, folding his arms over his chest.
"Hand your office over to Lily, and then get to HR to see me please." Ursula stated.
"Right now?"
"Right now, Ursula said, walking out of the office.
Emma stood stunned. Thinking about how she might raise her son, and help her dad pay for the car that he bought for the family… All for the whims of an entitled man. Well She has grounds for a lawsuit, but it wouldn't be the company's fault… just this man.
