"Am I going slow enough?", Leon asks Claire for the fifth time as he drives, the triplets are in the back seat in each of their infant car seats, strapped carefully. They made sure they are before leaving the hospital and now their father is making sure that he's driving at the right speed while their mother in the passenger seat glances back at them every second she can. They're not even halfway at their destination yet and they're already agitated, but it's understandable since they are first time parents.
But before any of this occurred, they had to fill out a lot of paperwork, also a last time clearance for Claire and the babies to make sure that they are set to be released and thankfully they all passed, much to Chris and Leon's delight, they are the only ones present with the four but their other friends promised that they will visit once all their businesses are taken care of. Speaking of Chris, Leon had contemplated on whether to ask him what happened that caused Claire to wake up earlier than what is said but thought that it isn't as important now that she's okay and that it's best to focus on getting the triplets home safe.
Chris had also volunteered to take the triplets home with his car considering Leon's driving skills but Claire said otherwise as she said that it will train the new father to drive safely, Leon's mood lit up at this, at least Claire still had a sense of trust for him after everything...but now they are both anxiously riding with three newborns as Chris follows their car from behind with his own vehicle.
"You're doing fine Leon...but do you think they're okay back there? Christopher looks like he's about to throw up.", Claire states while looking back at the newborns, never taking an eye off them, and Leon glances at the mirror to see how their son is doing, "I can't really see them Claire.", he remembers, their seats are facing the rear.
"Oh right- I'm sorry...but I think he's- okay? False alarm, he's just scrunching his face."
"How about Chloe and Clarkson?", he asks back.
"Chloe's sucking her thumb and Clarkson is fast asleep.", Claire looks back again before bobbing her head and sighing, "I think they're fine for now.", she replied as she finally looks ahead at the road, they didn't hear any infant whine so they relaxed like what Barry had advised them over the phone before they left, they wanted to talk to someone who has had kids and he told them to not overthink things and just live in the moment as this will be the first and last time they're going to drive their kids to their home as newborns.
Although Claire still glances at them over the mirror every minute she can, Leon also noticed this at the corner of his eye, she really is hands on, but he is also concerned about her, on whether she's truly recovered or she's just hiding it...just any possible pain she's feeling, "Claire?", he calls her while eyes are still focused on the road.
"Yes, Leon?", she asks back, looking at him.
"A-are you sure you're fine- like...okay? I'm sorry if that sounds off but, you've just woken up from a coma- and just undergone a c-section a few days ago, I'm just- I want to make sure you're at your best state to be taking care of three kids. I mean- I will be helping you but- you know what I mean do you?", he explains.
"I am- Leon, they've cleared me yes, but if you are asking me personally- I will say yes as well, and if you're also talking about my wound and stitches, it had also healed up quite well- no infections whatsoever and I have the energy since I did sleep for a long while.", she said as positively as she can, she didn't want him to worry about her, "And don't worry about me, instead, think about the triplets and the sleepless nights, baby bottles and diapers we have to go through for an entirety of- I don't know, but it's going to be a while.", she joked and he laughed, she had a point...but he's not letting go of the sudden awakening from comatose either.
"To Christopher Lee, Chloe Lianne, and Clarkson Leonel Redfield-Kennedy. Welcome to your new home!", Leon enthusiastically greeted his newborns as he carried both his sons' carriers while Chris followed him, carrying in his niece's car seat, he insisted, as well as the baggage of infant things.
Claire, who is in front of them, was the one who opened the door, and now they're inside as she looks back first at her brother grinning, then at Leon, but her smile grew even larger when she gazed down at her children, she approached Leon, they were uncomfortably too close to each other, she wasn't paying attention to him though, instead, she bent down to reach for one of her sons and carry him, kissing his forehead before cooing down at him, "Welcome home Clarkson, my little superman.", she changed his position vertically.
Leon on the other hand, just stares at her every action, how familiar looking she is when it comes to kids...now their kids, also remembering how caring she is with Sherry and other children she's encountered before until Chris approached him from behind, "Wake up Kennedy, we still have a lot to do- you're starin' directly at her and it's very noticeable even from behind.", he whispered in his ear and Leon looks away immediately and looked at his son instead who he is carrying, he placed the carrier down and crouched to lift his older son like what Claire did with Clarkson but he cradled the boy in his arms, talking softly, "Look Christopher, we're at your mom's home and it will also be yours for the years to come.", he patted his back and the newborn moved in his father's embrace, they hadn't tried to open their eyes yet and Leon wishes one of them will as soon as they can, he can't wait to see their bright blue eyes that they inherited from him and Claire.
"Hey, don't forget about your guys' only girl, she's missing out from both her parents because all their attention are on her brothers...the favoritism- right Chloe?", the uncle brought his niece's carrier up to his eye level and to his surprise, the small girl has her eyes open, "Guys- she opened her eyes.", at the man's announcement, both the parent's ears perked up as they quickly turned their attention to their daughter, walking over to Chris as he slowly turns the kid's carrier to face her parents. Once Leon and Claire caught a glimpse of their daughter they grinned, she had indeed opened her eyes for the first time ever, those bright blue eyes that she inherited from both her parents were finally revealed...and her uncle saw it first.
"H-hi, Chloe...it's daddy- you have the most beautiful eyes, can she even see us yet?", Leon asked whoever could give him an answer.
Claire answered, but she still had her gaze on her tiny daughter, "Not yet, but I think she can catch a glimpse of us- although still blurry...I've somehow researched it."
Leon nodded, "But still...this is a big milestone.", he replied positively, "Look my boy, your sister opened her eyes, maybe you should too, Christopher.", he turned to his son.
"Are you talking to me or the little guy?", Chris asked sarcastically and Leon rolled his eyes.
"Very funny Redfield."
"Now- are you talking to me, Claire, Christopher, Chloe, or Clarkson?-"
"Chris- I swear to God.", Leon warns and Chris puts his free hand up, as if surrendering.
"Alright, I'll stop Kennedy.", referring to Leon.
"So- are you talking to me or one of your nephews or niece?", Leon came back with the man's own game.
"I've already surrendered man.", Chris smiles at his friend and he bobbed his head, "Now please take your daughter and give her the attention she deserves since she committed a major milestone and also- I have to carry more luggage in.", he hands the carrier over to Leon and looks at his sister as well, "Claire- you gonna be okay here...alone with the Kennedy's? You'll go insane.", he sarcastically stated and his sister rolled her eyes at him.
"I'll be fine Chris.", she grinned at him as he turned to return to the car and get the other things he left.
Awkwardly enough, Leon and Claire are left alone with their kids once more, and to their nightmare, all three started whimpering then- cry, three unharmonized wails filled the apartment, "I think we need to activate our full mom and dad mode again.", he told her and she bobbed her head while bouncing her youngest son in hopes to somehow soothe him and Leon does the same with the two he has in hand.
Minutes passed and to no avail, silence still wasn't found in the room, and Claire looked at the time "12:30...when was the last time you fed them?", she asked Leon.
"Uhh back at the hospital- I fed them around 9.", he answered and that's when he realized that they might've been hungry by now, "Right- they're probably starving...I'm sorry."
Claire nodded, "It's time to feed them, I uhh- I'll be breastfeeding them- Leon...if that's fine with you.", she indirectly stated, he didn't get it at first but as she glanced at him, he stuttered.
"Oh- right, I'll look away.", Leon stuttered, turning his back to mind his own business and give her the privacy she needs.
"Also- I've pumped some breast milk as well back at the hospital...I think Chris has yet to bring that up- it's in a cooler, you could use those since I can't feed them all at once...but you can hand over one more baby to me- I can handle two...just who do you think is more hungry over there?", she told him and he turned a bit, not wanting to overlook her as she feeds Clarkson then he turned back to Christopher and Chloe, and decided, "I think Chris Jr. will be a gentleman and let his sister bond with mom since he got most of her attention back at the hospital.", he turned his head a bit.
"I think it's fine if you look, Leon...besides-it's not like you've never seen this before.", she stated and this caught him off guard, but he still did as much as possible to respect her privacy.
"I'll just get Chloe out of her little bed and hand her to you, then Christopher and I will be on our way to uncle Chris.", he stated as he puts down the carrier, bent down to unbuckle his daughter and carry her in his other arm, turning to her and walking over her as he places their tiny girl in her mother's arms, she had herself ready, he also watched as she latched to eat, and he is amazed, he didn't know how to feel as he watched Claire do all that like it's nothing new to her, but he cleared his head as his son cries in his embrace, remembering his distress.
"I'll be going now...our boy needs to eat as well.", Leon smiled at her and she does the same as she looks up at him, "You know- I didn't imagine us doing all this in one day but- I gotta say- it's gotta be one of the best days of my life...despite the triplets crying all at once just now..", he told her.
"Me as well...and thank you Leon- for taking care of the kids- everything really while I was in coma- I appreciate it."
"It's nothing Claire- I'm their dad, it's my responsibility and remember...we're a team, when one partner is down, the other should do their best to step up.", he placed a hand on her shoulder and he broke it to leave the apartment and to soon fulfill their son's needs.
