F3: Welcome back to chapter 23 of Volume 5. Last chapter was more filler and helped interact with Weiss and Adam a little more but now time to get down to business. RWBY is property of Rooster Teeth. OC characters I've mentioned will be credited to the authors. With that said Let's Get Started.
Volume 5-23: Training and Parents.
The morning came quickly as everyone woke bright and early to start the day off right as they all gathered at Havens cafeteria. While there weren't any cooks around to cook the food Raven and Adam opted to help cook so that way it'll be a little easier for everyone.
"So what's the plan for today? More training I assume?" Nora asked.
Akane nodded "Yeah but this time we have a little something that might help speed things along when it comes to training." Akane started.
"Here at Haven we have to fully operational combat simulator that will really test a persons abilities and how they handle certain situations. We're going to need to be fully prepared for whats coming." Colby said.
"First we eat then we show them." Senka added as they waited for the two cooks to finish in the kitchen.
Though Ruby noticed that Weiss seemed to be in a better mood than normal but she was staring off into space for a moment like something was on her mind.
"Hey Weiss." Ruby said her voice getting the lynxs faunus attention.
"Hm... did you say something?" She asked.
"No just you seemed to be staring off their for a minute. You good?" Ruby questioned.
"I'm perfectly fine Ruby but thank you for asking. I just feel.. a bit lighter today so to speak." Weiss said but Yang and May slightly giggled at that well knowing what she and Adam were up to last night.
"Come to think of it you seem more chipper this morning. Had a good dream or something?" Pepper asked.
"Oh... something like that." Weiss said.
"What? Did you and Adam go on a date or something?" Cardin asked jokingly.
However Weiss didn't answer him right away as she simply hummed a tune in her head which almost answered his question for him.
"Oh dust you two did go on a date!" Jaune said happily.
"So how'd it go? C'mon girl we need details." Nora replied as everyone paid close attention.
"Well... if you all must know it was a very fun night and we both had a good time... until that some... woman showed up and tried to ruin it all." Weiss said bitterly at that last part.
"So what did this woman do exactly?" Nora asked.
"She tried to make a move on Adam but he promtly said no even though he could've gone without twisting the womans wrist. Honestly he should've broke it." Weiss added.
"And what else?" Star asked.
"After that... we sort of left and came back to the academy and... he gave me this hug that just made me feel safe around him you know." Weiss said.
"Sounds like one of Blakes books she likes to read all the time." Yang replied.
"You know if she were here she'd slap you for that comment." Weiss added.
Some minutes later Raven and Adam brought out the food for everyone to eat as Adam sat down next to Weiss.
"So what are you all talking about?" Adam asked.
"Oh just talking about how your guys date went." Yang added.
"I see... it went well for the most part." Adam answered.
"Yeah she told us about someone trying to steal you away from Weiss." Nora teased which only made Weiss blush.
"Alright quit messing with them and eat up." Raven said as everyone ate their food.
After they ate Senka, Akane, and Colby led the group toward another place within the academy that would help them prepare for the fight ahead of them. They reached a set of doors as Colby opened them revealing what was inside and what they found inside was a large open space that was bigger than Glynda combat class back at Beacon and it still would have room for more.
"What is this place? It's so big." Cardin asked taking in the view of the place.
"This is our combat simulation room. Normally only students that are second year and up could use it but without any other students here we can use it freely." Colby said.
"It's most certainly impressive. Kinda like the one we have back at the academy but this one is on a more different scale." Weiss commented.
"And it would be inapprioate to use it without proper supervision." A stern female voice replied behind them which got all their attention but made Velvet go stiff immediately knowing who it was.
Who they saw is a middle aged woman in her early fifties but with a young look on her face along with a hourglass figure. She has charcoal black hair that is braided into a low ponytail along with brown eyes. She wears a white dress shirt that has a few of the lower buttons undone along with a long skirt of mostly of mostly white with sections of navy pinstripe. The lower buttons are worn loose revealing a black underskirt beneath. She also wears black tights, and stiletto shoes. On her head are a pair of charcoal black rabbit ears.
"Now then what were you planning on doing with our simulator Mr. Castanho?" She asked firmly which made him nervous.
"Um... sorry Mrs. Scarlatina but we were planning on using the simulator for training the group." Colby replied.
The last name caught everyone by surprise as the older rabbit faunus looked directly at Velvet who wasn't looking at her.
"Velvet dear it's rude to ignore your mother when she's talking to you." She said as Velvet turned to face her mother as everyone looked at her and the older woman.
"Wait... she's your mom." Nora said slightly pointing at her.
"Is that a problem." She said sternly at Nora who flinched at her.
"In case you all don't know who I am. My name is Meg Scarlatina and yes I am Velvets mother. I am also the combat instructor here at this academy and nothing happens here without my approval now what is all this about." Meg replied.
"Mother it's very important. We have reason to believe that Haven is the target of an attack by the White Fang who are already on their way. We need all the training we can get." Velvet replied.
"I see... then I suppose I can help you all with your training. Though I must warn you all that I don't go easy on anyone." Meg added as she brought out her scroll and pressed a button on it as it activated the simulator.
"I'll command the simulator from my scroll along with how difficult I deem to make it. So... who likes to go first?" Meg questioned.
Yang stepped up first "I'll give it a shot." She said confidently.
"Very well." Meg added as she made adjustments to the simulator as multiple objects appeared ahead of her and at the end was a pole which signified as the goal.
"You're objective is to reach the goal while also dodging the obstacles in front of you. No semblances allowed. You may begin when ready." Meg stated.
Almost immediately Yang burst forward running toward her objective. Just then turrets popped up at started blasting at Yang. She leaped upward to avoid them before firing her own shots at the turrets destroying them in the process before running straight ahead.
Next came three pairs of swinging blades that tried to get in Yangs way but they were moving fast but Yang was just as quick as she moved through the first and second pair but the third pair gave her a little trouble but managed to slip by.
"Keep going Yang! You're almost their!" Ruby cheered as so did the others.
Yang had blown past the other obstacles but she was getting rather tired from it but still kept going. Meg however had other plans in mind as behind her back she adjusted the difficulty of the course. Yang came up to the final obstacle which was a large curved walled in which she had to get a running start.
She took a breath as she prepared herself for the last obstacle. She readied herself and then charged at the curved wall charging upward at it as she reached for the edge so she would be able to climb it but then just suddenly the edge curved inward causing Yang to miss it which made come crashing down on the sloped wall landing face first. Aura or not that had to hurt as Yang clutched her nose in pain.
Raven went over to check on her daughter kneeling down to her.
"How bad is it?" Raven asked as she Yang carefully removed her hands from her nose revealing the damage seeing that she was bleeding.
"Yeah that's broken. Let's walk you over to Jaune and he'll patch you up." Raven said as Yang got up and walked over where Jaune was as he immediately started applying his semblance to heal Yangs nose.
"Well that was rather unfortcunate. Would anyone else like to go next?" Meg asked but Raven kept a close eye on Meg.
Everyone else took their turns and much to Raven thoughts she started noticing a pattern with each and everyone of them. When Star took her turn she passed it with some minor difficulties but when Nora went up she barely made it through the obstacle with many difficutlies that even Neo have trouble getting through it.
Once everyone has gone through nearly half of the group was tired from the experiance while everyone else was just now feeling it.
"Not bad for some but the rest of you most certainly need work on your cordination." Meg said harshly mainly toward the ones that barely passed.
That was when Raven has had enough "Alright that's it. Why don't you just drop the act? You're not fooling me Meg." Raven said.
The older woman looked toward Raven with a rather stoic look on her face.
"Is there a problem that you want to discuss with me?" She asked.
"Actually just one in particular. Care to explain why you're favoring certain members of my group. Don't think I haven't noticed." Raven said but Meg remained stoic.
"What exactly do you mean by that?" She asked.
"What Miss Branwan means is that your favoring our faunus members over the others." Oscar said in his Ozpin voice.
However Meg remained almsot nonexpressive almost like she didn't bother to answer but she did eventually speak to them.
"And what if I am? Am I not allowed to push the boundaries of someone limits even if they were to injure themselves. My class is made to push boudaries of limits and beyond them. Its not my fault that some of them just can't be up to the task." Meg replied harshly.
"Don't give me that crap! What happened to having an unbias opinion?! That's the job as an instructor to be unbias toward their students." Raven replied.
Meg simply huffed "That may have been at your academy but here is completely different. If they're simply not up to the standard that we hold than they won't have a very successful future." Meg said before turning to leave.
"Now then I must be going since it appears I've waisted enough time here. Though I would like to have a word with my daughter. Velvet if you please be a dear and follow me." She ordered.
Velvet relucently followed her mother but not before Raven spoke to her.
"Don't take too long. Ozpin wants talk to everyone afterwards." Raven said.
"This shouldn't take long... I hope." Velvet said as she went with her mother as everyone watched her leave with her mother.
"You know is it bad that I really don't like that woman." Cardin added.
"Honestly for once I can agree." Jaune said.
"Wonder if there is some tension between her and her mother?" Star asked.
"I wouldn't be surprised considering how uptight she is." Adam stated crossing his arms.
"For now we just wait. Let's go somewhere so that Ozpin can discuss his plan." Raven added as the entire group left the training field.

Velvet followed her mother out of the training field and toward the main lobby of the academy.
"Mother? Isn't this far enough?" Velvet questioned.
"Not yet. In here." Meg replied pointing toward a door to a classroom. They entered the classroom where it was empty and once they were inside Meg locked the door behind them in which Velvet noticed.
"Um... mother what are you doing?" Velvet asked.
"First I want to say that I'm happy that you're alive and well. I was worried when I heard that Beacon was attacked and feared the worse." She said completely honest which surprised Velvet at first.
"I... thank you mother for worrying but I had help getting out of their myself. I ended up at Vacuo's capital and enrolled at Shade Academy." Velvet replied.
"That's good to hear. However what I don't understand is the company that you travel with." Meg added sternly.
"Pardon? Everyone is okay. They're all very nice, kind and..." Velvet started but Meg interrupted her.
"I mean your human company that travel with you." Meg snarled which got Velvet attention making her glare at her mother.
"And what's the matter with that? You don't even know them and you're already judgjing them because they are humans. They are actually very nice." Velvet added in defense.
"Nice? Ha! Don't make me laugh. They appear to be nice to you at first. They say things to you that make you lower your guard and once you do that's when they will not play nice with you and use you until they have no use for you." Meg stated firmly almost like she was speaking from experience.
"They are not like that! They're my friends and no way they wouldn't use me you oh so claim. My friends have all the respect for me and for what I am and I have respect for them as well. You can't just say things like that without actually knowing them." Velvet argued.
Meg only huffed "I've had my fair share of knowing people and I can tell just by looking at them. They all aren't as innocent as you believe. All I want is to protect you from those that want to hurt you." Meg added.
"And I appreciate that but I can defend myself well enough." Velvet replied before began walking away from her mother.
"Now if you'll excuse me mother I have to meet up with them to go over a plan to defend this academy." Velvet replied as she walked away from her mother.
Her mother only looked at her daughter not sure whether to be proud or annoyed that her daughter wasn't listening to her.
Velvet went up to where everyone was meeting as she entered the upper lounge area seeing everyone as gathered.
"Ah Velvet. Good for you to join us. Did everything go well with your mother?" Ozpin spoke.
She only sighed her ears drooping a little "Not exactly. My mother just has different view on human and faunus relations. Even so I still love my mother even though we argue a lot." Velvet replied before turning to Yang who is now sporting a bandage on her nose.
"How's you nose Yang?" She asked.
"Just a little sore for right now but I can manage." Yang answered.
"So Ozpin what is plan you got for us?" Pepper asked.
"Right. Thankfully the headmaster has been able to provide us with a map of the academy." Ozpin said stating to the map that was in front of all of them.
"Right now this is the general area of the academy. No doubt the White Fang will enter from the main entrance using the steps to gain access. If we can block access to the entrance it should slow them down." Ozpin started.
"Yeah but not for long though. More than likely they'll be packing heavy muscle to break through it. Plus that's not the only thing to worry about." Adam added.
"What is?" May questioned.
Adam pointed to two objects on the map "Those are the CCT Towers. There first thing is to knock out any communications so that no calls can be made to call for backup or the security around Mistral. They'll go for those first I'm sure of it." Adam said.
"Then can't we just lock up the towers. That way they can't get into them." Colby said.
"They don't plan on getting into them. They want to destroy the towers just they did to one at Beacon. I bet they have dust charges to do just that." Adam added.
"Dust charges? What are those exactly?" Ruby asked.
"Its pretty much what happens when you combine a bomb with some highly combustable dust that would make C4 looks like a firecracker. That's a Dust charge." Raven answered.
"Yeah. Very explosive and highly destructive in what it does." Adam replied.
"Okay but don't we still need to get the relic from here too. How are we suppose to do that?" Jaune asked.
"Leave that part up to me." Raven stated.
"Alright let's make sure we go over everything. We cannot leave anything out." Ozpin replied as they all began going over a battle plan all the while from outside the room Meg was listening in not sure what to take on what they were doing.
=RWBY=
Many miles away from the capital the White Fang has set up camp for the night as they were getting ever so closer to their goal of the academy. Ilia was in her tent as she savored every little bit of bringing down a second academy which will once again spread fear and panic throughout the continent knowing that there once proud academy has fallen to the might of the White Fang.
"Sister Ilia." Corsac said from behind her.
"Yes. What is it?" Ilia asked.
"I have estimated our time of arrival at the academy at approximately a day and a half. We've also recieved word from our other source that headmaster Lionheart is aware of us and will be assisting us when we arrive." Corsac said.
"Good. With someone on the inside will make this a lot easier to deal with." Ilia replied.
"I'll take my leave then." Corsac said as he turned to leave.
"Brother Corsac... a moment please." Ilia replied making him stop a moment.
"Yes." He said turning to face her.
"I'm sorry abour your brother Fennac. His death was a noble one for our cause and he'll be remembered as such. Never forget the ones that took him away from you. Once we arrive at the academy we will land a definative blow to the human race and to any other faunus that betrays us. They will see that we are the superior ones and learn to respect us or die." Ilia replied.
"Thank you for your kind words Sister Ilia." Corsac said giving a bow to her before leaving her tent.
Just outside Siennas spy was once again writing messages so that her birds would be able to deliever them. However just as she was about to finish writing a large shadow loomed over her.
"And just what do you think your doing?" Hazel asked looking down at the jaguar faunus.
Before she could react Hazel grabbed her with one hand and hoisted her up with nothing but his strength alone and began walking toward Ilias tent almost just when Corsac was leaving it.
"What's the meaning of this Hazel!?" Corsac shouted.
Hazel then dropped her to Corsacs feet "You have a spy in your mist." He simply stated.
Ilia then came out of the tent at the scene in front of her.
"What's that about a spy?" She asked angrily before looking at the woman in front of her.
"Randvi? You're the spy? Why?" Ilia questioned.
"Because. What you're doing is wrong. You know it. We don't need any more bloodshed. The faunus legacy is nothing but bloodshed and the humans will never respect us if we continue to kill. I will not be apart of something that will lead to killing!" Randvi shouted.
"Then I have no further use for you." Ilia replied but just before she could pull out her gun Randvi dropped a small sphere in front of them which they all figured out what it was.
"Shit! Cover your-" it was too late as the sphere shined bright throughout the area blinding them which gave her the perfect opportunity to escape as her body began to shift into that of her faunus species leaving only behind her torn clothing.
The light vanished from them as they saw that Randvi had disappeared.
"Search everywhere! We cannot let her-" Corsac started but Ilia stopped her.
"No. We cannot waste our energy for something like this. Let her go there is little that she can do." Ilia replied as she went back into her tent.
Randvi ran as fast as her four legs could with her ravens Huginn and Munnin flying by her side. She had to make to Haven before the White Fang could to warn them personally. She only prayed that she had enough time and that her semblance would hold out.
F3: That ends chapter 23. We get introduced to Velvet mother Meg and Siennas spy has made a run for the academy. What will happen in the next chapter? Please leave behind a comment and don't forget to follow and/or favorite as well. This is Fireuser3 and I'm Out.
