"Alright let's head downstairs and eat some breakfast Okay." Kim got the kids moving towards the door to head down the stairs. They walked down the stairs slowly since Mia was still waking up and Milo was held in Kim's arms. She got the kids seated at the table before she made them some food. She gave them some yogurt with granola, berries and some turkey bacon. After they ate Kim took the kids back upstairs to potty and get dressed for the day. Kim suggested as they pulled up at the daycare. "Yes please mommy!" Mia pleaded. "I will ask him okay?" Kim saw both kids nodding. She got the kids out and brought them to the school to check in. Once the kids were in their classroom Kim headed back to the district.
She arrived to see Adam waiting for her. "Hey Darling. How did it go this morning?" He asked pulling her in for a hug. "Hey! It was good. Mia didn't want to get up, Milo wanted to snuggle. They both missed you. And hope you can come to dinner tonight." Kim looked up amused. "Of course! I've told you before I want them to be a part of my life too. "Well it's no where near the amount I drank in college and someone was very sweet to indulge in midnight pancakes to soak up the alcohol. It's a sure fire way to not have a hangover." Kim shrugged as she sat at her desk. "Well I'm trying that next time because I feel like shit."Erin looked hungover as hell.
"I promise it is the perfect fix. It soaks up all the alcohol left over in your stomach so it's super helpful." Kim smiled happily. "Well we are definitely trying that Er! No barfing next time!" Jay laughed at the death glare he got from his girlfriend. "Well no one should have a hangover today. You should all know your limit." Voight called out gruffly as he entered the bullpen. "Alright Gangs has reached out for our help on a case. Since Lindsey is under the weather Burgess you are with Halstead today. Go talk to the Sergeant and find out what they need help with." Voight orders as the two detectives leave the bullpen.
"Pancakes really?" Jay asked figuring Kim was hiding something. "Yes pancakes! Jay What are you trying to say?" Kim laughed smacking his arm. "I'm just saying you and Adam both look pretty happy this morning and I'm sure it's not the pancakes." Jay wiggled his eye brows hoping she got the hint. "Oh is that what you are asking about? Well a lady doesn't kiss and tell. Sorry Jay! Try harder next time." They both laughed as they headed into the gangs section of the district. "Good Morning! I'm Sergeant Williams. You two are from Intelligence?" He asked seeing the two new faces. "Yeah I'm Detective Halstead and this is Detective Burgess. We heard you needed help on a case?" Jay offered his hand to shake.
"Yes. It seems bigger than what we can handle right now. I have two people out on medical leave right now and one deep undercover. We have a huge drug ring being run out of a club. I need more bodies to help run surveillance and work the inside looking for evidence of who is actually dealing inside. It shouldn't be too difficult." Williams offered as an explanation. "Yeah we can help you guys with that. Here's my card text me when and where and we will be there. We got probably 6 people who can go in the bar and two for the van. That should give enough eyes and ears to find something. We look forward to working with you all." Jay shook his hand and they were off to the bullpen again.
"So look. Whatever is going on between you and Adam. He's happy and that's all we care about." Jay wanted to finish the conversation from earlier. "Look. I'm happy to. I have no intention on hurting him in any way shape or form. He takes all the crap that life has handed me and just makes it seem like its nothing. It doesn't bother him. Or maybe it does but he not upset at me over it. He blames Paul for everything which he's not wrong about it. But he has been working hard to help me overcome the insecurities I have from that relationship. So he's a keeper. I'm not letting him go. I promise you all that I will not hurt him and appreciate him." Kim assured as they headed back up the stairs. Jay was happy to know how Kim felt and that was good enough for him.
"Alright what do we have?" Voight asked seeing the two walking back in. "They need help with surveillance at a club. Lots of drugs running through it so they need eyes and ears around the club to get proof. They are under staffed so they asked for help. I figure it's easy enough. Told him to text me later with the details." Halstead explained. "Alright well then you guys are off for the rest of the day till we get the call. Keep your phones on." Voight dismissed the team after that. "Alright guys see you later. Erin, hope you feel better!" Kim packed up her things and started to head out. "Darling? You wanna hang out for a bit?" Adam asked hoping to spend more time together.
"Yeah sounds good. I was thinking about getting the kids and taking them to the zoo. So let's hang out together for a bit then maybe we can get the kids together and go to the zoo together. If that's okay with you?" Kim offers hoping he would be okay with that. "Sounds like a great plan! Let's get going." Adam smiled wide as they headed out for the day. "What did you have in mind?" Kim asked bumping into Adam as they walked. "Maybe head back to my place. Have a late breakfast and maybe snuggle some more?" Adam shrugged with a child like smile on his face. "Breakfast sounds good to me. And then we will see about the rest." Kim smiled shyly with a wink.
They both drove back to Adams apartment. Kim would need her car later to get the kids so it made sense to bring both over to Adams. He had arrived first but waited for her to arrive. He helped her out of the car before walking hand in hand in to the building. Adam unlocked his door letting Kim in before he entered himself locking the door behind them. "How about some French toast and fruit? I don't have any of the turkey bacon you like but I promise I will get some next time I'm at the store." Adam had already moved onto the kitchen to start some food. "Sounds good babe." Kim propped herself on the countertop to watch him cook. His phone buzzed causing them both to look towards it. He noticed it was his dad and chose not to respond.
"What's going on Adam?" Kim saw the look on his face when he saw it was his dad. "Nothing really. I'm just not sure he would approve of this." He motioned between them. "And I don't care what he thinks. So it's easier not to respond to him. I know what we have going on has been going slow but I know what we have. I like what we have and the progress we made last night. The vulnerability you showed last night was beyond beautiful. The fact that you have been so open about your life, your past makes me happy. He's the one that to,d me about the captain in New York that was murdered. We had that fight because of his misinformation. I don't want to fight with you again over that." Adam admitted his father caused that fight for the first time.
"Ah. District gossip, Yeah we need to not take it so seriously. Communicate first, we talk it out and then if we find fault we can argue. But not before hand. We won't ever be able to avoid gossip all together but we can learn to talk first before we jump to conclusions. We have both learned that doesn't help. And while I know we both that crap in our past we have to work together to move past that. What happened to you was not your fault. No matter if you changed or not you didn't deserve to be cheated on. And I didn't deserve what happened to me either." Kim talked while Adam finished making their food.
"I agree 100%. I want this to work so yes! Talk first, argue later. I promise. And we both deserve better than we got. I'm happy that we are here. Now let's eat before it gets cold." Adam plated the food and they moved to the table to eat the food he prepared for them. "Okay but please text him back so we can plan our day." Kim wanted to know what was going on with Adams dad. Adam wiped her face dry. He helped her up and brought her to the bathroom. "I need to get your bath products. Please give me a list so I can shop for them." Adam looked at her knowingly. "How about I give you some of the extras I have a home. The shampoo alone is 15. And since I have kids we will probably be at mine more than here. So I'm not gonna put you out like that." She explained as she got in the shower. "Is it made of gold?" He joked. "Nope bananas. It's natural, cruelty free, not tested on animals, no chemicals. The conditioner is also banana, the body wash is orange scented. It's a small fortune. But I love how it makes me feel so I go with it." Kim shrugged getting under the water. "It was nice when I used it. So yeah bring some extras over and some clothes so it's easier when you do come over to stay. And I know it won't be often cause of the kids but that's okay. As long as we are together." Adam kissed her forehead lightly before washing himself.
They finished showering and getting ready before heading out the door to meet up with Bob. Neither knew how it was going to go. But they needed to make it happen. So they set aside their emotions and headed towards their meeting. Kim wasn't sure if she should meet Bob or just stay close by. That would be Adams call and it might change before they arrived but she would follow his lead always. "Let's do this darling! On to the diner." Adam held out his hand for her to take and follow. Kim nodded and they headed out. What lay ahead was a mystery but they would get through it together.
