Riley's pov

" That's great news." I said hoping Ben would agree with me when he woke up. " I'm really happy but I've got to go to class now."

I hung up the phone and headed to Dr. Crowler's class, still unsure of how to break the news to Ben. It'd been a week since the orientation and the doctor's class had become one of my favorites. In addition to covering broad card types Crowler also went into various rulings that applied to certain cards, which was helpful given that a lot of cards worked differently then they did in my world. Today was supposed to be about field spells which could be interesting. Ben used his decks field spell Imaginary Arc Tower more than I did. Maybe Dr. Crowler would be able to recommend a good field spell for my deck or would use one as an example during the lecture.

What wasn't great was how the rest of Obelisk Blue treated Ben and I. Even after Ben but on his little show at the welcoming dinner we were apparently still somehow found as unworthy. This had led to both Ben and I being challenged a lot by various other Obelisks that wanted me out of the dorm. Alexis, her friends and Dr. Crowler seemed to be the sole exceptions to wanting us out of the dorms. Dr. Crowler seemed to like us, whereas Alexis and her friends were largely ignoring us.

Arriving at Crowler's classroom I took my seat at the very edge of the Obelisk section. If the past week was any indication none of the other Obelisks would sit next to me. Sure enough the seats to my right and left were left vacant.

Class started and was a fairly standard lesson until midway through when the blue haired Slifer who hung around Jaden couldn't answer a simple question about field spells. Dr. Crowler made some off-handed comment about how he wanted someone not wearing red to answer his question. Jaden then opened his mouth and insulted Crowler, which annoyed me given that Crowler had put his foot down and flat out told everyone in Obelisk that unless I failed a promotion exam I wouldn't be thrown out of the Obelisk dorms.

After that class continued as normal though I could tell Crowler wasn't happy. I barely paid attention to the lesson too busy trying to figure out how to break the news I'd received to Ben.

" Alright students now that you've been here long enough to get settled in." Dr. Crowler began breaking me out of my thoughts, " I'm assigning your first major project. Everyone will be randomly paired up and have to do an oral presentation on one of the existing monster typings. This presentation will count towards a substantial portion of your grade so make sure to take it."

Crowler began to call out pairings:

" Ben and Mindy"

" Now in order to determine what typing your presentation will be on I'll have one person from each group come up and draw a paper from this bowl." Crowler explained while holding up a glass bowl filled with pieces of paper. " Now everyone please find and introduce yourself to your partner.

Since I had no clue who Mindy was I decided to pull out my deck and look through it while I waited for her to find me. At this point our reputation almost guaranteed she'd know who I was.

" Hi Cutie." A cheerful voice said. I looked up and saw Alexis's raven haired friend from my Duel Analytics class in front of me smiling. " I'm Mindy and I guess we'll be partners for this project."

" I'm Ben." I said the lie coming out easily enough before I awkwardly continued." But since you came over here you probably knew that already. I'm sure it'll be a pleasure working with you."

" Alright now that everyone has paired up please send one of you up to draw a paper containing the type your group will be assigned." Said Dr. Crowler.

"I'll go up." Mindy said as she spun around and walked back up to the front of the classroom.

She grabbed a paper out of the bowl and was handed some papers by Dr. Crowler. She then came back up to where I was and took the seat to my right.

" Crowler said that this paper outlines what the presentation requires." Said Mindy as she passed me one of the papers Dr. Crowler gave her.

The paper outlined in detail what was required for the assignment. In addition to a list of several cards of the assigned type, a power point that had at least ten slides, you also had to write a four page essay detailing how you would use cards of the type.

" What type did we get?" I ask hoping it's one I'm familiar with.

" Machine type." Mindy said. " Don't suppose you know a lot about them Cutie?"

" Unfortunately beyond this guy I don't know much." I said pulling Imaginary Actor out and showing it to her. It wasn't a total lie, despite playing against some machine decks I didn't know much about machine monsters beyond that most machine archetypes seemed beat down oriented.

" Class dismissed." Came the voice of Crowler as students began exiting the classroom.

As I was gathering up my stuff to leave Mindy got up and went back over to Alexis and Jasmine. I grabbed my messenger bag and started making my way back to my dorm room.

" Hey Cutie wait up." Came Mindy's voice from behind me. I turned and saw her jogging up to me. "Come on let's go to the library to work on the project."

(Go work on homework or deal with breaking the important news to Ben? Not exactly a difficult choice.)

" Alright." I said as I started heading towards the library with Mindy.

Alright so we now get the start of me trying to treat duel academy like an actual school with classes and projects. So if anyone has any class or project/assignment ideas I'd love to hear them or if you want to just share some stuff you did in school it'd probably be helpful when it comes to writing this particular aspect. So no last names but every name combination except the Jasmine Alexis, BastionDimitri, JadenSyrus, and BenMindy is a reference to either a show/cartoon/movie so feel free to guess if you want to.
