The next morning Jack and Xander headed over to Carp Diem for breakfast, before Jack dropped Xander at GD for Xander's fun new game of stump the scientist!

"Honestly the looks on their faces when I point out something that seems very obvious that they missed is hilarious."

"I've seen that look." Jack agreed. "Usually when I figure out what went wrong with their supposedly well made, well thought-out project that threatens to ruin the day. They're so busy proving how smart they are, that they end up making really big mistakes. I think what bothers them the most is, isn't the mistake they've made, it's me pointing it out."

"Because you're average intelligence and their hyper intelligent. Yeah, I've seen variations of that look back home. If you're not as smart or as strong or as powerful as someone else, then you can't possibly be as helpful as the ones that are smart, strong or powerful. Until you are and then it's blank looks and it succeeded only because we're smart, strong or powerful, not because you were right."

"Ego. All of them, egos. But don't you go getting an ego or they'll slap you down hard."

"Or anything they perceive to be an ego, because you're not allowed to have independent thought anyway. Being that you're one step above a primate."

"They do act like average people are just above primate level, don't they? Like they expect me to scratch my armpit in front of them or draw pictures on the wall." Jack muttered.

"Or are weak and helpless and need to be kept in padded protection because you might get a bruise just walking through life." Xander sidestepped to avoid a scientist and got an odd look from Jack, thinking it had to do with his padded protection comment, Xander added. "The girl who was obsessed with keeping me safe, thought it proved she loved me by trying to force me into her idea of 'safe '. Instead, their efforts just made me really vulnerable in a town with alot of violent characters. They had a hard time understanding that making me leave the safety of the group, didn't make me safer. Because there's truth to the statement, there's safety in numbers. What's going on?" Xander noticed people were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They were all moving with their arms out and sweeping them back and forth.

"One of our scientists has gone missing." Allison told him and Jack. "He was testing a device based on the theory of bending quantum illumination."

"Huh?" Said Jack.

"Bending light rays around an object." Allison told him.

"Still going huh?" Jack said.

"Bending light rays around an object." Xander said. "Isn't that a proposed method of cloaking something?"

"Cloaking?" Jack asked.

"Making it appear invisible." Xander answered. "It's not actually invisible, you're making light move around you, rather then hit you. One of my favorite scifi ideas. What teenage boy doesn't dream of being invisible with a girls locker room around. And I just realized, that makes teenage boys perverts. No wonder they say we get smarter after puberty. After puberty there's blood in our brains and we aren't quite as dominated by our hormones anymore."

"Being the father of a teenage girl, I wholeheartedly agree that teenage boys are perverts. Where was this scientist last seen, Allison?"

"In his lab."

"Do you have a camera in his lab? Maybe he's still there. If you use infrared you could pick up his body heat, right?" Jack suggested.

"It's worth a try." Allison agreed. "We could do the same with all the cameras. Come on, the security office is over here."

Once in the security office, Allison had the security officers pull up the feed from the scientist in questions lab. She was about to have the officers switch the camera to infrared when Xander said. "That's the scientist you're missing?"

"Yes." Allison replied. "We can't find him anywhere."

"He's in the rotunda playing keep away with the other scientists."

"How do you know?" Allison asked.

"Because I saw him. I stepped around him earlier when Jack and I were coming in."

"So that's why you looked like you were walking around something." Jack exclaimed. "Because you were. Allison, your scientist isn't missing, he's just having fun with the other scientists."

"How do you know he isn't stuck like that?" Allison asked.

"Because of the big grin on his face." Xander informed her.

"Oh for, he has to know we're looking for him!"

"Probably, but science and proving a theory is fun for these people." Jack said. "And given how many disasters from malfunctioning GD projects we've had over the years, I think I can understand why this scientist would want to take a little time and enjoy his success."

"Yeah, yeah. Show me where he is please." Xander led her and Jack back to the rotunda and walked right up to the scientist and laid his hand his shoulder. "Ms. Blake is a little annoyed with you right now. I suggest you drop the cloak before she starts threatening your job. Or Sheriff Carter calls Deputy Lupo and let's her run you down."

Apparently there were woman besides Cordelia Chase who could put a look of fear on a man's face. Probably a good thing Xander was Cordy locked and Jo was Zane locked. She was a kick ass unapologetic bitch Queen and he knew as much about weapons as she did. Any other circumstances it might have been a match made in Heaven. Or Hell.
