It had been over a month since the victory against the Toad Empire on Warren, the menacing swamp dwellers that idolized and followed their A.I. overlord KOMPLEX had suffered their first true defeat to send them back on their plans of conquering the Aniverse.
Planet Warren still felt the effect of the toad's ultimate weapon, the Climate Converter, a weapon capable of terraforming an entire planet into a Swamp. With this sudden change of climate and the damage to the infrastructure of every city across the world, Warren had been conquered in far less time than a full-scale invasion would have.
Fortunately for the hares, the efforts of S.P.A.C.E. had managed to destroy the converter and replace it with one that reconfigured the planet back to its normal state.
The world was still in partial ruin, but it was habitable again, all thanks to the efforts of Bucky O'Hare and his valiant crew members abort the frigate Righteous Indignation.
Since the retaking of Warren, everything was quiet in the Aniverse. The toads barely attacked or were found on patrol, leading some to believe that the toads were finished. Having been able to strike such a blow to their cause had let to some believing that they were never going to try again, but those like Bucky O'Hare knew the war was far from over. They won the battle, but the war was far from over.
In a far-off sector of the Aniverse, the crew of the Righteous Indignation was searching for any sight of their amphibian adversaries.
"Any sight of them Deadeye." Asked Bucky to his main gunner below.
"Nothing, Bucky me boy. I'm beginning to think those slime balls really are gone!" answered the four-armed duck, adjusting his ball cap and headphones on his head.
"If only we were so lucky! Keep searching." Was all Bucky responded, the quiet of the situation getting to him. He more than anyone wished for this war to be over, but he had come to understand the toads, or more accurately KOMPLEX, he would never give up in his quest for total domination.
"I know they're out there; I can feel it! I just don't know were." He said to himself, pondering about their enemy's next move.
"Maybe we should take a break, the toads haven't attack in weeks!" answered First mate Jenny, the white and pink Aldebaran cat giving him a caring smile. She also knew the toads would give up, but she hated seeing her captain so worried.
"Maybe your wright Jenny. I just can't help feeling the second we stop looking is exactly when they'll strike." Responded Bucky, fully knowing what his First mate was trying to say.
"Aright team! Let's take a break, but keep your guard up!" he said on the coms, before getting up from his chair and making his way towards the engineering deck.
In the engineering deck, working on the state of the ship where tree figures. The first was a small cycloptic android known as Blinky. He was the crew's A.F.C., Android First Class, a small silver robot with a giant red photoreceptor, four pointed silver fingers and a blue circular module with a black center on his chest.
Known for his catchphrase of "Calamity and Woe", which he used to identify problems for the crew, Blinky was currently busy helping the other two figures in tinkering with the engines. The largest of which was Bruiser, a Berserker Baboon from the planet Betelgeusia. He was a space marine that had joined the team after the unfortunate disappearance of his brother Bruce, the Indignation's previous engineer. Like his older brother, Bruiser is strong and has a hatred of toads, which fear him. But unlike his brother, Bruiser is brawnier, usually focused on one of two things: eating bananas and smashing toads. Despite his intimidating appearance and typically over-aggressive habits, he still is nice and sociable to most people, making him an important part of the crew.
The final being on the deck was perhaps the strangest, a human boy! This boy was Willy DuWitt, a boy genius and visitor from Earth, capable of both fixing and creating some impressive pieces of equipment, like the Photon Accelerator. This very accelerator was the reason for him being here in the first place. Willy had tinkered with any pieces of technology for his many projects, but this one was his most successful. The Photon Accelerator was supposed to merely act as an energy collective, but it began to absorb the energy around and changed phase on its own, when across dimensions another Photon Accelerator went out of phase due to battle damage and homed in on Willy's Accelerator the second he turned it on. This not only caused the ship's engineer Bruce to go missing but allowed Willy to traversed across dimensions.
It was at that moment that he had become part of something bigger, wishing to help him use his mechanical skills and knowledge of engineering to repair the ship and help win the fight. This had proved him to be a valued member of the crew and with the disappearance of the former engineer on the frigate, Willy soon became the official engineer of the Indignation, only having to go home whenever he was no longer needed, or he had to get back before his parents notice he was gone.
Despite having taken his brother's place on the crew, Willy and Bruiser were good friends, the latter understanding that it had been an accident, and Willy having promised to help bring him back the best way that he could. Now the two of them were working on the ship's shielding, trying to make it stronger.
"Alright Bruiser, you can set it down, that should do the trick." Willy said as he admired his hard work.
"Can do lil' buddy." The baboon answered as he set the piece of equipment down.
"Well, it seems everything is coming along nicely here!" said Bucky as he walked closer to his friends.
"Captain! This humble android is happy to see you." Cried out Blinky, each word followed by his eye flashing.
"Hey there Bucky, what brings you here." Asked Willy as he went to greet his friend.
"Just checking in on you guys, you have been working for hours now! "he said, masking his true intentions.
"Say, are those upgrades you told me about finish." He continued talking to his friend.
"Yeah! Both the shield and the aft disrupter are fully operational. Why! Had we found something?" Willy answered, his voice a mixture of excitement and concern.
"Nothing so far, those toads are tougher to find than a flea on a lion!" was all Bucky cared to say.
"Isn't that a good thing doe, if there not attacking then everything should be peaceful." Willy asked confused, doe he knew the toads were a threat he hoped that his friend could finally take a break from all this fighting. He had nearly lost them before, and he never wanted to go through that again.
"It should be, but I have this gut feeling, something isn't quite lining up!" he told his young friend, careful not to get him too nervous. Bucky had regretted having to lie to his friend during the battle for Warren, but he had needed to in order for the plan to work. Willy understood that, but he hoped he never had to repeat it again.
Suddenly the alarms began to sound, taking him out of his line of thought, until suddenly the ship began to rock around.
"Jenny! What's going on!" he cried out to the coms.
"The Toads, we found them!" Jenny said.
