"Thank you for inviting me but I'm going to stay in."
"You have to eat, Liv. I can't have you going hungry."
"I'll order something from room service."
Fitz had been arguing with Olivia for twenty minutes trying to get her to go with Abby, David, and him for dinner. No matter what he said, Liv had refused to go. Even when he called Abby to come over and convince her, she still said no.
"When did you eat last?"
"I had a yogurt at lunch with a smoothie."
"That is not a lunch. Now get your purse, we're going to dinner," Fitz told her. He was starting to get rather annoyed with her at this point. Seeing her not move and instead cross her arms defiantly, he turned back to face her. "Either get your purse now or I'm taking the purse and your phone with me."
"You wouldn't dare."
"Try me."
Staring each other down, Liv tried to come up with another way out but couldn't. In a blink of an eye, Fitz had her purse and phone in hand and was out the hotel room door. The next moment she was following him, jumping to grab her things out of his hands.
"Fitz give it back!" she yelled at him.
"Not until after dinner. You are working way too hard and need to eat something. Come eat dinner and then I'll give it back."
"Why is me eating dinner with you and your friends so important to you?"
"Because I know you well enough to know that you have no problem lying to me about whether or not you ate dinner. Making you go with me to dinner just ensures that you eat something."
"I am not a child, Fitzgerald. I am very capable of taking care of myself. I've done it for a very long time."
"And I'm sure you've done a wonderful job, but for tonight you need to come join us for dinner. There's nothing in the entire world that needs your attention twenty-four seven. Take an hour and eat. I promise the world will not come crashing down."
Fitz wasn't leaving any more room to argue. She would have to go with him. Giving up, she stepped into the elevator with him and took her purse and phone back.
"I see you finally convinced her to join us," Abby smiled when Fitz walked in with Olivia to the restaurant. "David, this is Olivia, Fitz's assistant."
Shaking her hand, they went to their table looking over the menu. After a few minutes, the waiter appear to take their orders.
"Just a salad for me, no dressing," Liv told him.
Turning to look at her, Fitz shook his head and took the menu from her. "She'll have a rare steak with a baked potato and the mixed vegetables. Also, a glass of your best red wine," Fitz told the waiter and watched him walk away.
Abby and David sat beside either of them at the square table and looked at each other, wondering what was happening. The death glare Olivia was sending Fitz was going to make for a different kind of night than they planned.
"Fitz, I don't want steak. I just want a salad. It's exactly what I was going to order from room service," Liv told him seriously.
"Then it's a good thing I made you come with tonight. Salad is not a meal. You are too thin already and you need to eat before you die of starvation. I don't want to have to train a new secretary," he laughed but was mostly serious.
Just as Abby was about to say something, David grabbed her hand and squeezed it, shaking his head no at her. Looking at Olivia, Abby could tell she was not happy about any of this at all. And on top of it, she looked very tired. Throughout dinner, Olivia didn't talk very much. She could feel her phone vibrating in her purse and wanted to check it. The walk back to the hotel didn't change her silence either. Standing in the hotel lobby, David and Fitz finished their conversation about the conference while Abby stepped aside with Liv.
"Are you okay? Fitz just wants you to eat something. And he's right, you are way too thin," Abby laughed.
"I'm fine. Only tired, I guess. Once I get back home, I'll be able to sleep for a bit."
"You should check out the spa here, I went last night, and it was amazing. They do a great massage."
"I don't have time for a spa. Thank you for your help today. I couldn't do that without you."
Abby wanted to tell her if she made time for the spa, she'd feel better but thought better of it. "I'll see you tomorrow then."
Fitz stepped up beside her as David and Abby got in the elevator. "See, I knew you'd enjoy dinner if you came with." Olivia rolled her eyes and hit the button for the next elevator. "Now you aren't talking to me?"
"That would be childish, don't you think?"
"Yes, so what's going on now?"
"Now, I'm going back up to my room and answering the texts and emails I've received since you took my phone away. All twenty-seven texts and fifteen emails of them."
"How do you know there's that many?"
"Emails have a different vibration pattern than texts do."
"You sat at dinner and counted emails and texts? I should have turned your phone off."
Once they arrived at their floor, Olivia walked ahead of him to her door before she turned around to him. "Look, I know I've been awful today and I've said things that I shouldn't have said to you and to your wife and there's no excuse for it, but I take my job very seriously. I won't fall down on the job or made to look bad because I missed something. Anyway, thank you for dinner, even if I didn't want to go. The steak was actually good."
"Awful is a harsh word. I'd say off but not awful. I get that Mellie is hard to deal with, especially when she is drinking. And I appreciate you trying to block her from me when I'm busy. She and I are going to have a long talk about her behavior when we get home. Get some sleep, Liv, you look like you need a couple years' worth."
Opening her door, Liv started to step inside and looked back at him. "See you at 9."
"Night, Liv."
Fitz went into his room and sat down. How has she got me so mesmerized by her? It's been six months and she's… damn, she's perfect. Whatever it was that made him so drawn to Olivia was something he couldn't put his finger on. No matter what he was thinking about at any time of the day, his thoughts would drift back to her. Standing in the hallway alone with her didn't help anything either. He just wanted to know everything about her and just be with her. He looked at the side table clock and noticed it was just past ten, Fitz grabbed his shorts and went in for a shower.
Across the hall, Olivia was starting in on her work again. She sat on the bed and went through her emails. After Fitz's seminar this morning he had become more popular. Reading the next few emails, he had ten requests to come join a seminar and give the same speech. He did very well this morning but the same speech? I'm sure there's more that he can talk about. Olivia flipped through her planner she kept for Fitz and looked at the dates making notes.
Answering several emails that she would ask Fitz what he thought about giving more speeches, she was lost in thought until her phone rang.
What does security need? Olivia picked up the phone and pressed answer.
"Olivia Pope."
"Ms. Pope, this is Nick. How is California?" Nick was always so sweet to her. He worked the night shift on the ground floor of the building that the firm was in. Whenever she had to work late into the night, Nick would be the one to walk her to her car in the parking garage to be sure she was safe. Sometimes, he was there in the morning when she arrived, and they would have a nice conversation.
"Very sunny, what are you up to? It's nearly three in the morning there."
"I'm sorry ma'am, there's been a slight issue."
"Alright, what happened?" Olivia listened to Nick talk for a minute as he started from the beginning. "SHE DID WHAT?!" Olivia yelled into the phone. Now she was pissed, and Nick could tell. "HOW DID YOU LET THAT HAPPEN!"
Laying in bed, Fitz suddenly heard yelling. He sat up and heard it again, hearing it was Olivia's voice. Without a moment to waste, he grabbed his key card and ran out, knocking harshly on her door.
"Well where is she now!" Olivia demanded to know. Hearing the loud knock at her door, she looked over at it. "Go away!" She yelled at the door to whoever was on the other side.
"Liv, it's me, open the door," Fitz shouted to her.
"I'll take care of it, Nick. Send me the pictures. I need to see how much damage she did."
"Open the door, Olivia!" Fitz continued to knock and pound on the door.
Hanging up the phone, she went to the door and opened it finding Fitz shirtless in front of her. "What?"
"What's wrong? I heard you yelling. What happened?" Fitz demanded to know.
"I'm taking care of it. I'll fill you in on it in the morning."
"No, Olivia, what happened?"
Hearing the phone ding a few times, Liv picked it up and looked at the pictures from Nick. "Fucking bitch!" she yelled and tossed her phone down, starting to pace around the room.
"I can't help you unless I know what happened. Now tell me so we can both go back to sleep."
"Your wife! Your wife is what happened!"
"What has she done now?" Fitz sighed and sat on the edge of the bed.
"She went on a rampage and broke into the office."
"Liv, Mellie wouldn't do that. She doesn't have a reason to be at the office. Who told you that?"
"Nick told me, he sent me pictures and video. She broke into the office."
Fitz watched her a moment trying to see if she would stop pacing and sit down but he could tell she was furious. "Well what happened at the office?"
"She spray painted my office and broke everything. She has destroyed my office!"
"And Nick sent you pictures? Show me," he told her handing her the phone.
Opening her messages from Nick, she handed Fitz the phone and let him swipe through them. The glass wall between her office and Fitz's was shattered to the ground. The glass spread throughout the room. Her filing cabinets were dented, and files thrown everywhere. Another pictured showed Fitz's office in the same condition he left it. Sliding to another picture, he saw one wall of Liv's office with the words 'filthy whore' spray painted in red, another had 'cheating slut' on it and the other wall spray painted 'dirty mistress' on it. Fitz slid to the next photo and the video started. He could tell it was from the lobby of the firm, Mellie had a bat in one hand with her purse on her shoulder. A few seconds in, it showed her pulling a bottle out of her purse and taking a drink of it before she disappeared off view.
Fitz was pissed off now. Even on her worst drinking days, Fitz never would have imagined Mellie was capable of doing something like this. Putting his head in his hands, he couldn't fathom why she would do this. He knew Mellie thought he was cheating on her with Olivia, but this was a new extreme for her.
"Stop pacing," he told her but was ignored. "Do you know where Mellie is now?"
"Nick had to call the cops and she was arrested. I'm about to make a call now and see how much damage she's done to herself," she said taking the phone.
"I'll call myself."
"I'm handling it, Fitz. It's my job." Her voice growing stern without hesitation.
"Your job is to be my secretary. You handle my work, you do not handle my wife," he reminded her as he looked up to see her.
"I handle your problems and your work. This is a problem I am handling it."
Fitz stood up trying to block her from continuing her pacing around the room which was starting to make him dizzy. "Mellie is my problem. I'm sorry she did this, I will take care of her."
"She did this to MY office. She didn't spray paint terrible names on your walls or break into your office, she broke into mine!"
"Which is the exact reason that you do not need to take care of this. I'll call the department and see what happened."
"What happened is she thinks that we are sleeping together! She thinks that I'm a cheating slut and a filthy whore and a dirty mistress."
"Liv," Fitz started and took a breath to calm himself. "We both know that isn't true. Please, stop pacing." Ignoring him, she picked up her phone ready to call as she continued in her circle. "Olivia, stop," he tried again and saw her dial in a number. "Stop," he nearly yelled. When she wouldn't stop walking and refused to put the phone down, Fitz grabbed it from her and threw it down, grabbing her shoulders to physically stop her. "Stop. Pacing!"
"DO NOT TOUCH ME, JERRY!"
