1st Ride - Let The Dark Signs Fall - The Catch-Up Chapter
The story begins a long time ago, with an incident known as Zero Reverse. You see-
"Lua, what are you doing?" asks Luca as she approaches her brother.
"I'm giving a rundown explaining the situation to the audience."
"But no one who is reading this doesn't know what's happening."
"Eh?!"
"Let's just start at where we met Goodwin and he explained everything."
Lua groans before they both walk away.
Goodwin's Mansion…
The day begins with the six of them standing in front of a door: Yusei Fudo, Jack Atlas, Aki Izayoi, Lua, Luca, and Mikage Sagiri. As the blue-haired woman rings the bell, the redhead turns to their group's leader.
"Yusei, why are we here?" she asks him, nervous about her words. "Goodwin is the man who kidnapped your friends and forced you to Neo Domino City in the first place. And you're just gonna trust him?"
Stern, Yusei replies with, "It's not about forgiveness or even trust. People are missing and too many unknowns are roaming around. And for some reason, Goodwin is the only one who knows about them, so for the time being, we'll listen to what he has to say."
As if accepting that answer, Aki politely quiets down as the door opens up. Out into the light he steps, Rex Goodwin. His ancient face watches the teens talk as he presents himself. "Welcome, everyone. It's not as soon as I wanted, but I am glad all of you are here."
"Even now, you act all suspicious," Jack tells him aggressively.
"Old man, we're in a bit of a hurry," says Lua as he approaches Goodwin, whose only acknowledgment of his presence is to lower his head. "What exactly do you want from us?"
"That's my line. I only invited the Signers here, boy." His words stab the child in his heart as if reprimanded for something he didn't know he did. "I'll have to kindly ask you to leave."
Luca steps forth in his defense, saying, "Lua and I are a package deal. You want me, you get him too."
As Lua admires his sister standing up for him, Goodwin sighs and allows it. "Now, we have to begin." He then guides them inside; as they enter, while Luca is joyed to have her brother by her side, Lua is less than.
Passing by a golden hall lit by candles on pillars, they reach a towering door with markings on them. "The king was brought here before-"
"That was someone else. I'm not the King anymore," Jack speaks with annoyance, to which Goodwin smirks.
The doors part open, leading the six of them into darkness. Mikage stayed behind after all. Once the doors closed, a bright red light shines from below them. Before then is a staircase leading to the stars, the light takes the shape of a familiar dragon mark. And that same mark can be found in their eyes to see on a plaque above their heads.
Seeing it, the Signers check their arms to find the appropriate marks on the plaque matching them. This is where Goodwin begins.
"What you see above you is the symbol of the Signers that have been passed down as the legend of the People of the Stars." As he speaks, their marks glow: Yusei's is a tail with a face, Jack has wings, Luca possesses a front claw, and Aki has the back claw. A vision of a fiery red dragon forms above them.
Yusei and Jack recognize it more than anyone else there, having seen it the first time in their first duel since the latter betrayed the former and left for Neo Domino City, and a second time during the Fortune Cup.
"The People of the Stars worshiped a powerful deity that traveled the cosmos and granted them power. This god-like serpent had the power to affect fate and determine the future. It was the Crimson Dragon."
Yusei repeats the name of the dragon, before remembering his duel with Jack. "Back then at that stadium, Jack and I had a duel with our pride at stake. But then, the dragon appeared and ruined it."
"That's right. Your meeting was predetermined by the Crimson Dragon."
"No it wasn't; you set me up to force Yusei to leave Satellite and become a member of your little game!" Jack states, glaring angrily at Goodwin.
"That in itself is also fate derived by its power. I myself did nothing but act it out." They do not look convinced. "Believe me if you will, but so long as you remain Signers you cannot escape your fate."
Aki, the most offended by that statement, asks, "So was it fate that my life was ruined? That my powers swelled more and more due to the flames of rage smoldering within me?"
"You can look at it that way, or you can accept that and the fact that if not for those powers, none of you would have met in the first place. Your powers are gifted by the Crimson Dragon as warriors chosen by it, and it has led you all together. Including you, Luca."
Said girl glances at her mark. "Maybe it was fate. Maybe not. I was younger when I entered the spirit world and met Ancient Fairy Dragon, and at the time, I didn't think further about it. But after all that's happened, I know it's my desire to save her."
Goodwin continues: "I'm sure you've all seen that vision; you all share the same birthmarks as the former Signers thousands of years ago. Whether you like it or not, it was determined you would all meet as so."
The dragon then disappears, along with the glow in their marks. With that over, Lua decides to ask the major question. "Aren't you forgetting something? We were told that there were five marks, so there should be five Signers."
Luca, agreeing with him, adds to it. "That's right. Where's the fifth person?"
"He awoke his mark long before you all did, and has been watching you from the darkness ever since." Goodwin's ominous words bring worry to their hearts; he intentionally did not tell them his identity after all.
"During the Fortune Cup, we of Yliaster had to take action and bring forth the Signers before it was too late. Every single opponent you faced in the Fortune Cup was brought from our greatest duelists to force your powers to awaken."
It's something that they felt they knew, but it's understanding to know they're confirmed. That's why that one person Luca tied against with her Charmer deck has been so interested in her memories. "And when all the duelists were assembled, the duel between Yusei and Jack had brought forth the Crimson Dragon, because all five were present at the time."
"So he WAS there…" Yusei reasons while glaring. "Why hasn't he revealed himself?"
"… don't worry. You'll see him soon." Goodwin then holds his hand up, causing a bright light to flash before their eyes. The landscape changes, showing the Nazca Plains. "Onto more important information… your enemies."
The five look down at the lines. "Thousands of years ago, the Crimson Dragon descended upon the land only to be greeted by Incarnations of Evil that sprouted from the earth. Cooperating with the Signers of the time, they sealed those evil gods into the land, where the Nazca Lines are. The truth of that was given only to us, and then…"
The spider geoglyph disappears. "… came the bizarre phenomenon where the lines suddenly disappear. It's all because of the Dark Signers."
"… Dark Signers?" Yusei asks, recalling what Kiryu said of himself.
"They're the antithesis of you Signers, warriors chosen by those incarnations to assassinate you. They all possess marks from the geoglyphs, can generate fields you can't escape from, have the power to materialize attacks, and have weapons called Dark Synchro monsters."
"Yes…" Yusei says as he thinks about the ice monster he fought, and then the eyeball dragon. Even the summoning condition is off; subtracting to make negative levels.
"If you compare our duels to life, theirs is more in line with death. It's possible with the powers of the underworld." Before they can call upon that, he continues: "Of course, the first two you've faced were only puppets for one of them. Wherever the real Dark Signers go, a geoglyph will surely follow. And threaten all around them."
"I saw that…" Recalling his duel, Yusei shudders remembering the terrifying monster Kiryu summoned, by devouring those around them. "The Dark Signers and what they've done to your so-called sacrifices!"
"Indeed…" Goodwin looks aside. "Satellite's separation was mainly because their base was in Satellite. Connecting the city and Satellite back together would spread the casualties far more than we can contain, but then two Dark Signers had their duel in the city within the Arcadia Movement. As a result, hundreds of people remain unaccounted for."
At that, Aki digs into her memories. She recalls Misty saying another duel had concluded and saw Divine falling from above. That would indeed match up.
Images then show them the outside of the Arcadia Movement, where both the lizard and hummingbird Nazca demons appear. "These are the Earthbound Gods, the Incarnations of Evil sealed in the earth broken free through their Dark Signer hosts. As the seal on them hasn't broken yet, their forms cannot be maintained without sacrificing people."
Of course, then Jack shouts, "And what happens to those sacrifices?!"
"… I do not know." At that, Jack grits his teeth. She was definitely there after all.
"This is a serious matter that must be resolved immediately. If left unchecked, they'll consume all of Satellite and then Neo Domino City, before destroying the rest of the world to remake in their own image."
The twins worry greatly about all the friends they've made. "The only ones who can reseal the evil gods and defeat the Dark Signers are the Signers. This is your fate."
Thinking it over, Yusei mentally accepts this decision. Jack, Aki, and Luca have, so he should respond. "Goodwin, there is one thing I need to know. When I returned to Satellite, a man who I thought died appeared before me as a Dark Signer."
Everyone focused on Yusei at that. "Kiryu Kyosuke was a friend of me, Jack, and Crow. I had heard he died while in prison, and yet he was there as a Dark Signer with terrible power and an Earthbound God, seeking revenge on us. His attitude, deck, even his dueling style had all changed, almost like his real self died as well.
"How did he become a Dark Signer?"
"I need to know too! What are these Dark Signers anyway?! Do you at least know that?" Jack shouts.
There's a pause on Goodwin's end before he turns around to simply say, "It's best you don't know the truth of that."
Jack isn't having that. "Don't give me that! Yusei and I are gonna have a life-or-death duel against a man we grew up with!"
"I don't mind fighting to save the world, and putting an end to the Dark Signers and the Earthbound Gods… but what about Kiryu and the others? If there's a way to save them-"
"There isn't," Goodwin states in abrupt interruption. He turns to them with his grim revelation. "You can't save those who become Dark Signers, for they're already dead. Not of this world."
That shocks everyone indefinitely. Defiant, Jack shouts, "Cut the shit! Dead people can't come back to life!"
Goodwin gives the former king a glare. "You saw with your very eyes humans turning into souls and being devoured and learned of a star dragon god. Something like reviving the dead is nothing to them. After all, these Earthbound Gods come from the underworld."
He holds his hands out to them. "Destiny is already in motion; you cannot turn back now. Whatever happens now is in the hands of the Signers."
He then turns to the exit. "I'll give you time to process your decision, but there isn't much."
Elsewhere…
"I'm telling you! A bunch of people gathered, and turned into a giant monster!"
"That's impossible!"
"Well, over there is just a giant prison. It's got nothing to do with us."
"Yes, it does!"
As the Signers make their preparations, over in Satellite, the action begins. Crow Hogan, the fourth teammate, and friend of Yusei and Jack preps his D-Wheel to take off while amidst a group of residents just sitting around and talking about what they saw.
"Don't go over there, man! That's a death sentence!"
"You better take off yourself. It's about to get messy," is Crow's snarky response before he drives away.
While nearing the location, his thoughts return to what he learned the night of Yusei's duel.
'You don't understand! A duel with the Dark Signers means risking your life.'
He parks his dueling motorcycle by some rock formations before nearing the ecliptic crater. "Sorry Yusei, but there are a bunch of kids in the vicinity that'll get caught up in all of this. Last thing I'm gonna do is nothing. So, I might as well get rid of one or two of them before you get back."
He continues his traveling until he reaches the steps. There, he spots a figure entering the darkness. They have a hood so he can't even tell, but that makes an opening for him. So, taking out a rope, Crow throws it at the person.
Having captured the hooded figure, he moves in shouting, "Gotcha now, Dark Signer," but when he reaches the person he finds that the person has escaped. His rope has instead captured a metal pole.
"Wait, the hell? I could have sworn I caught someone!"
"Well, well, well," a voice speaks, coming out from behind the pole. The figure steps into the light revealed to be the cyan-haired Dark Signer who was once his friend dressed in his dark hood.
"Kiryu Kyousuke!" Crow shouts before going on edge. He partially calms himself before smirking. "Looks like I bagged the big fish."
"Wrong, Crow. This time, you've been caught," Kiryu retorts, smirking like a madman at the little bird before laughing. "This is just what you'd do, try to sneak in and get intel before leading the others to you. Classic Crow."
He pulls the hood off of his body, revealing himself wielding the duel disk. His dark eyes glow with a fiendish wave before he activates it. Crow immediately turns his on after dropping the rope still in hand. "This works fine for me. Yusei wasn't the only traitor I need to conflagrate."
"Conflagrate? How long you've been waiting to use that word? Also, you forgot Jack."
"As much as I'd like to go after Jack too, the new girl's got her eyes set on him so I'll have to make due. Yusei's the bigger traitor after all."
"If you still think, then you never knew Yusei at all."
DUEL
Kiryu: 4000
Crow: 4000
…
A good deal of time passes as the Signers take in the information they were delivered. Among them, the most disheartened is Yusei, his heart in shambles. That is why he's sitting alone on a bench staring at his hands, shaking from the grief.
Footsteps take him out of his thoughts. He looks up at the statuesque form of Jack Atlas, glaring down judgmentally at his rival. "Jack… if Kiryu is really dead, then it's my fault. He passed on with such hatred directed at me. How can I face him like that? How can I put a stop to it?"
There's a pause, before Jack shouts, "What do you mean by that?!" He grabs Yusei's collar and lifts him, before slugging him in the gut.
In pain, Yusei glares up at his rival before he receives another punch. This time he gets clocked in the chin, sending him tumbling onto his elbows. A bit of blood exposes on his bottom lip. His blue-eyes glare back at Jack, those piercing purple pupils puncturing him.
"What's with that look?! You look like a pathetic, abandoned dog! Where's the same Yusei Fudo who dragged me off the throne as King and gave me such a disgrace?!" Jack then points at him. "Kiryu hadn't died; you did!"
Yusei gets up to a knee. "Kiryu may have been my friend, but now he's an enemy that we have to stop! How is that not enough for you?!" The blond storms over to Yusei and picks him up. "If he's got something against us, I'll just return it to him sevenfold! After all, you're just a shell of a man who died!"
Jack rears back for another punch.
POW
What happens instead is a cross counter. The two friends stare at each other through their eyes not closed from the others' punch, before Yusei declares, "Who has died, exactly?"
This brings the former king to grin. "There're those eyes."
Over with Aki, she's wandering through a garden covered with roses of different shapes and colors. She passes a bush gate to enter a path, where a circle of roses rests. She leans down and sniffs, engulfing her nostrils in the sweet scent of the red flower.
The soothing scent of the rose calms her nerves as she understands her next move. Or, her current move. She had discussed this earlier with her parents, but she has just as much reason to participate as anyone. It has taken so long for her to reconnect with her family and now she has a chance to return to a place of comfort and love. But, not yet.
After learning that the person who took her in was just using her powers to become a tool of war, it becomes clearer for her about her assigned opponent, Misty Lola. She was to be a Joan of Arc for the Arcadia Movement, and they're guilty of child experimentation and grooming for war. Toby could have easily been killed and Misty blames her for it. Well, with Divine gone, she has no one else to aim her vengeance at.
So, Aki has to do this. Not just to stop Misty, but to accept responsibility for what she's endorsed.
Meanwhile, inside, Lua is busy in the cafeteria. On his tray is a spread of gourmet food. "Ooh, this looks delicious!"
"Ah! There you are!" says Luca loudly as she enters the mess hall. "What are you doing here?!"
"Oh, about time you showed up. You want some?"
"Why are you the only one not taking this seriously?"
"Hey, it's not my fault. There's a huge spread of food and no one's trying to eat it, so I figured don't let it spire."
"Spoil."
"That too." He adds a slice of wagyu beef.
"No one has the time to stomach food; did you not hear what the Director said?"
"Oh, I did. But that's fine. Because it's a Signer problem." The kid then swallows a sandwich.
"Of course, you'd say that. We can't afford to take it easy!"
"Yes, and I can, because I'm not a Signer!" He then moves his full tray to a table to eat in peace.
Disappointed, Luca huffs while turning away to leave. "You're a real piece of work, Lua. At least try not to be so callous in Satellite."
"Oh, I'm not going."
Before she can, however, those words lock her in place. "… what?"
"I'm not going to Satellite." He tells her again, this time more seriously.
The twins remain in silence within the taciturn mess hall, one not believing the other.
"Lua, why aren't you going?"
"It's been said three times; I'm not a Signer." Lua turns to her this time, showing her the distraught look on his face.
"For a while, as the oldest, I had to measure myself to look after my sister. After all, as the boy, I gotta be the hero. Everyone always said that, so I started thinking it… until now." His voice trembles here. "It was something that hadn't hit me until I dueled Divine, but I'm just the useless dead weight. I can't be a hero. I'm not a Signer, I'm not a great duelist, I'm not even a good brother."
Lua sighs before forcing on a fake smile. The green-haired kid pats his sister's shoulders before saying, "But hey, it's alright. I'll be here cheering you on with everyone!"
Luca pushes his arms aside, surprising him. Her eyes darken as she stares at him, before hitting his chest. "Ow! Ow! Hey, stop!"
"You idiot! You're still only thinking of yourself!" she shouts while hitting him. This continues for a bit before she hugs him. "Do you know how scared I am?! Going to another place I've never been to, facing someone with some sort of grudge against me, all by myself; you don't think that would frighten me?!"
Lua looks down at his sister, taken back by the trembling, paralyzing fear her eyes have. "I don't think I can do this without you…"
Back to Action…
As the ring of fire forms around them, Crow draws his card for his turn. Checking his hand, he makes his decision. "I'll summon Black Feather – Mistral the Silver Shield in defense mode!"
Coming out to the field is a blue owl with silver plating on its face in the form of a mask.
Mistral: 100/1800 (2) Tuner
"I'll set two cards face down and pass to you."
"That's it? I'd have thought you would have something special." Kiryu begins his turn, grinning. "I special summon Dark Grepher!"
After taking one card from his hand and dumping it into his grave, he brings forth a dark warrior with red eyes.
Dark Grepher: 1700/1600 (4)
"Dark Grepher then lets me send more cards to the grave." He reveals a monster in his hand before dumping it into his grave and then sending one more from his deck.
"Then, I'll set two more cards and summon Infernity Necromancer!" The next monster to appear is a sorcerer wearing a mask dressed in all purple. It takes a crouching movement.
'Zero cards in hand…' Crow narrows his eyes realizing he's got his Handless Combo ready.
"Time for the revenge to start! Infernity Necromancer's effect!" Magic flows through the monster's hand, bringing forth from the graveyard a new monster. "Come on! Infernity Destroyer!"
This time, it's a ruby-grey ghoul with a silver jacket landing between the two earlier monsters. It makes a snarl before facing Mistral.
Destroyer: 2300/1000 (6)
"Battle! Destroyer, attack Mistral the Silver Shield!" Destroyer moves in to take down the blue owl.
"Not so fast, or did you forget my facedowns?" Crow's first card reveals itself, becoming the trap Icarus Attack. Mistral ignites into an avian prominence before flying headfirst at Grepher and Destroyer.
"Icarus Attack…" Kiryu realizes, watching his two monsters disappear into ashes.
Crow laughs. "Your Handless Combo trick gave Yusei a heap of trouble, but no cards in hand means no backup plans! Like I wasn't gonna be prepared for that!"
"Turn end." With nothing left to do, Kiryu concedes his turn. "Not bad. Looks like you've kept up with your skills. You've always been good at trickery and deceit, like a ricochet bullet. Of course, your little moniker can also be for shooting someone in the back!"
"I didn't betray anybody!"
"You were the FIRST one to leave!" Kiryu shouts, his anger getting a hold of his actions. "After everything I had done for you, you bailed just because things got a little too rough!"
"Don't you dare start that!" Crow draws his card before checking his hand. "Everything that happened was a result of you!"
He slaps a card to the field, this being a spell. "I play Cards for Black Feathers! I'll send Shura to the grave to draw two cards!"
Upon doing so, Crow gets a look at his hand. "Oh, hell yeah! I summon Black Feather – Blizzard the Far North!"
A beautiful white bird flaps its wings landing on the scene.
Blizzard: 1300/0 (2) Tuner
"Blizzard will special summon one Black Feather from my graveyard! Come back, Shura!" Returning to the field is a bird with raven-colored feathers with a blue mane.
Shura: 1800/1200 (4)
"Next up, I'll be tuning Blizzard with Shura!" Blizzard coos before turning into two Synchro Rings. Those rings pass through Shura, transforming him.
"Pitch-black power will lodge in its great wings and stir up the divine winds! Synchro Summon – kick up the gust, Black Feather Arms Wing!"
Appearing to the field from the green light is Crow's monster, a humanoid Blackwing wielding a shotgun sporting a bayonet.
Arms Wing: 2300/1000 (6)
"How's that? Looks like you won't be getting your vengeance on Yusei after all. Battle!" Arms Wing moves forward ready to fire.
"Oh, I remember this one. This is the little chick that does piercing damage, isn't it?" Kiryu squawks as Arms Wing flies in, its attack power increasing by 500 as a result.
Arms Wing: 2800
"Trap card open! Infernity Force!" Kiryu activates his card. "This trap activates when my hand is at zero. Your monster is destroyed and I get to special summon an Infernity from my graveyard!"
"Saw that coming. Good thing I was prepared with this, Trap Stun!" Crow's card flips over, turning Kiryu's trap to stone. "All traps are negated for the rest of the turn!"
Arms Wing, no longer hindered by the barrier, moves forward firing rapidly at Necromancer before slicing it in two with its bayonet.
Kiryu: 3200
The Dark Signer cries out as he feels the pain his monster felt. He stumbles a bit, before laughing. "That's some nice damage there, Crow. Did it feel great drawing first blood?"
"I'm not sure you guys have any left," says the shorter duelist as he notes something brewing from beneath Kiryu. "What's that?"
"Because you destroyed Necromancer by battle, I can special summon this little guy. Come up, Infernity Avenger!" Kiryu's monster pops up, this being a tiny little gremlin with dual-wielding pistols while sporting a cowboy hat.
Avenger: 0/0 (1 = 3) Tuner
"Avenger becomes the level of the monster that was destroyed as well."
Crow curses under his breath flabbergasted that he let Kiryu gain an edge. He then takes a card from his hand and sets it. "I'll set this card and end my turn!"
Kiryu draws his card, smirking as he eyes it. "You've gotten better at this, Crow. But next time, you gotta finish your opponent in one move. Don't just send their stuff to the graveyard. After all…"
He reveals a monster card. "…the graveyard IS my real hand! I special summon Infernity Daemon!"
From the void, three eyes shine. The monster appears to the field, revealed to be a triple-eye demon menace.
Daemon: 1800/1200 (4)
"If he was the only card in my hand upon drawing, I can special summon him immediately. And then, I can search for one Infernity card!" Kiryu pulls a spell card from his deck and reveals it.
"Infernity Launcher?"
"This spell card allows me to send it from the field to the graveyard to revive two Infernity monsters from my grave!" Kiryu then activates it, before discarding the card immediately to revive two of his cards: Necromancer, and Mirage.
Laughing, the Dark Signer shouts, "Now it's my turn! I will tune Daemon and Mirage with Infernity Avenger!" His monster turns into three rings before passing through both Daemon and Mirage. The monsters become stars before lining up and shining in the light.
"The dead and the living… the moment they meet at zero, the demonic dragon will be released from the cage of eternity! Synchro Summon – Come forth!" From the light emerges black smoke, all of which solidifies into a demonic beast of a dragon. Its dozen eyes wander around before focusing on what is below, its razor-sharp fangs ooze putrid saliva and its hair wiggles about like worms. "Infernity Death Dragon!"
IDD: 3000/2400 (8)
"Whoa! What, I'm not good enough for your Dark Synchro Monster?" Crow shouts in a completely mocking tone.
"It's a DARK Synchro Monster, but this ain't a Riding Duel so why waste it? I don't need One-Hundred Eye Dragon for the likes of a non-Signer." He then looks at Crow's hand. "Besides, you've already seen what it does, so it'd be stupid of me to use that on a trickster like you. You've got Kalut in hand, don't you?"
Crow's eyes lower in response. Of course, Kiryu will know about that; out of everyone in Team Satisfaction, Kiryu is the only one using a brand-new deck. "So there's only one way to handle this."
"What?"
"Infernity Death Dragon's effect." His dragon snarls, releasing a whisp of smoke with saliva. "By targeting your monster, I can destroy it and burn you for half of its attack!"
"You can what?!"
"Time for the conflagration; Infernity Death Blast!" His monster fires, releasing a plume of death that surrounds and consumes Arms Wing. His bird man cries out before shattering, its remains and the smoke slicing up Crow so much he screams.
Crow: 2850
Laughter echoes from Kiryu's lips as he shivers seeing Crow suffer. "Well? How's that, Crow?"
Coughing, Crow holds his stomach as that's where most of the damage collected. 'Damn, that was painful… so this is what Yusei felt… But…' "I ain't giving you the satisfaction, Kyousuke! Trap card open; Black Feather Beacon!"
Crow's second facedown opens up and in flies a new Black Feather taking a kneeling position before Crow. "Come out; Black Feather – Vayu the Emblem of Honor!"
Vayu: 800/0 (1) Tuner
"Death Dragon can't attack the turn it's doing that, but I've done enough. Necromancer, bring back Mirage." The Necromancer wiggles its hands, bringing back the level 1 from before. "You'll get a kick out of Mirage's effect."
"Let me guess; he has some stupid effect to copy attack points?"
"Nope. He has a stupid effect to summon two Infernity monsters from my graveyard in place of itself!" The monster transmutes into two separate forms, becoming two monsters Crow is familiar with.
"What?!" Daemon and Destroyer appear on the field, standing beside his dragon.
Seeing what's happened, Crow narrows his eyebrows. "Destroyer, attack!"
His bigger monster moves in and attacks, releasing a wave of darkness that blasts Vayu into nothing. With him gone, Crow brings his hands down, gasping when he sees Destroyer in front of him with a hand stretched out.
"When Destroyer destroys a monster by battle… you take 1600 points of damage!" The monster then hits Crow with a wave of destructive darkness.
Crow: 1250
"And now, Infernity Daemon will finish you off." Kiryu raises his hand so his monster would make its move. It forms a seal that summons a demon hell hand from above.
At that, Crow grins. "Gotcha. Black Feather – Backlash!" Crow's final trap goes off. His five Black Feather monsters appear from the graveyard before facing Kiryu's monsters.
"Eh?"
"Backlash can only be activated while I have five or more Black Feathers in my graveyard and I'm about to receive a direct attack. All of your monsters will be destroyed!" His five birds fly forward to attack Kiryu.
"No. No! Damn you, Crow! … not." Kiryu's last facedown opens up, causing Necromancer to use its magic to produce a barrier. This shielding blocks the Backlash attack.
The light of hope leaves Crow's eyes as his final trump is destroyed.
"Infernity Barrier negates your trap." With that concluding, Daemon finishes attacking Crow, causing an explosion on impact. Our blackbird bullet master cries out in pain, his final one.
Crow: 0000
With the duel over, the burning fire of Kiryu's hieroglyph forms around Crow. The stone heart of the Earthbound God forms in the skies as well.
"Damn it…
"Now it's time you burn in hell. But don't worry; that rat Yusei will be joining you shortly! It's just what's expected of you traitors!"
That becomes the last straw; despite all the pain he's suffering from, Crow gets up and glares at him. "The only one who betrayed anyone… WAS YOU!"
Kiryu steps back a slight centimeter at the rage in Crow's eyes. "You forged Team Satisfaction because you wanted to kill the boredom surrounding us and overcome our issues by going after the thugs of Satellite. But then you ran out of opponents and became one!"
He drops to an elbow. "We all got dealt a shitty hand by life, we all had to live in hellish poverty, but all you could think about was making it worse for everyone else. Just so you'd feel a little bit satisfied being in Satellite. But I guess that wasn't enough, was it? That's why you went after Security and forced us back to help you. We left the group because we got tired of that. We grew up and had better things to care about. But I guess violence was all you had left!"
"I don't need to hear the feeble barks of a dying bird!"
"Oh, you're gonna little to this dying bird, because he ain't finished!" Crow smirks a little while keeping his eyes on Kiryu even as his body falls apart into darkness. "You started out gang because you weren't satisfied, and now you're gonna burn the world down until you are. But it ain't gonna stop, not until someone takes you down. I may fall, but they're coming. You should have finished Yusei off when you had the chance." With that, he turns to light and flies up into the skies. All the way to a stone heart floating in the air.
"Eat up, Ccapac Apu…" Kiryu then drops his head, thinking about what Crow said. His face evolves into a thousand-year stare.
"Oh? What's that I see? Regret?" asks a feminine voice coming up to him. Kiryu grabs his cloak and dismisses her.
"We're dead. We ain't nothing but regret, reborn to cleanse that."
"Hmm. I wasn't sure you were such a poet."
"What do you want, Misty?"
"I was wondering why you wanted to feed him to your god. We're about to produce a lot more energy for them to appear, and Rudger was expecting another Dark Signer."
"As if I'd let that loser in our ranks. It ain't revenge if he doesn't stay six feet under. What, you gonna bring that rose girl to our side?" The blue Dark Signer throws his cloak on before walking off.
Misty ponders that, the green Dark Signer thinking how cathartic that would be. "… maybe."
That's when she feels it. "Oh. Looks like that duel triggered it. Let the world fall into darkness."
All of Satellite trembles and shakes. From the center of the BAD area, a bright purple light shoots up into the heavens like a beam in a superhero movie. Shortly after, it fades away into nothing, and from the epicenter emerges black smoke.
Residents look up and note the smoke before running away. But it's too late; everyone it turns disappears, swallowed up into the darkness. After seconds of screaming, all that is left is silence.
End Chapter
Lightz: That concludes this chapter. Next up, the Signers will be moving to Satellite and we will get to meet Rudger. But, you probably already knew that. Oh, and before you say it, most of these cards are using their anime effects, like Mirage.
