"Hi Mary, any mail for me?"

"Only a few things, Mr. Grant. I'll grab them."

Waiting for her to grab the mail, Fitz leaned against the counter looking around the room. The clerks' office wasn't busy on a normal day, only ever a few people when he had to come in. Looking at the phone, he heard the door open and glanced to see who it was.

"Here you are, Mr. Grant. Just the regular…" Mary started off before she was interrupted by the sound of a gunshot. Hearing the pop of a gun going off, Fitz pushed her to the ground beside him. "What in the world?"

"Stay here," he told her, "Everyone stay down." One more shot fired off closer to them.

Mary stayed beside him on the ground with two clerks and three lawyers on the other side of her. Reaching up under the counter, she hit the SOS button to alert the security team that they were in the room. Outside the doors, they could hear commotion happening in the main lobby. Hard footsteps rushed around the marble flooring in different directions. Listening to doors opening and closing around them.

"Security, is anyone in here?" a man spoke in a low voice, opening the door.

Turning his head around the corner, Fitz nodded to the officer. "Six of us. No one's hurt."

"Good, head out. Officers have this floor and the stairwell cleared," he told them, ushering them out.

Getting off the floor, all six went down the back stairs leaving the building. Seeing so many police cars surrounding the building, Fitz recognized his former Admiral from the Navy, who was now a Captain for the D.C. police, giving orders to police officers and ran over to him.

"Captain Larsen, what happened?" he asked, catching his breath.

"Mr. Grant, please get behind the line."

"I just came from inside, what the hell happened? Two gunshots go off and everyone's running out."

"A prisoner escaped and shot two of my officers. We're evacuating everyone now to find him."

Fitz looked around at the people coming out of the courthouse trying to find Olivia. Not seeing her, he grabbed his phone from his pocket and called her. Five rings before her voicemail came on and he hung up trying again. Walking through the crowd of people, Fitz kept calling her name out. Watching the doors as more cleared the building.

Driving Verna back home for a while, Jerry held her hand on the console between them. Both of their phones chirped with news alerts.

"I'll get it, it's probably Liv asking about restaurants for tonight. You know how indecisive she is," Verna laughed. Looking at the alert on her screen, her sudden gasp turned Jerry's attention to her more. "Shots fired at Superior Court."

"Call Fitz now," Jerry told her as he zipped around the block to turn around and go back.

Trying his cell, she heard it ring twice. "Verna, have you heard from Liv?" Fitz shouted on the phone over the sirens around him.

"She's not with you? Are you okay? What's going on?" she questioned, gripping Jerry's arm.

"Someone escaped and is shooting, that's all I know right now. Have you talked to her?"

"No, I'll call her. We're on our way back."

"No, head home. Call me when you get a hold of her."

Hanging up on her, Fitz shouted for Olivia again. Running through the crowd again.

"Fitz says to go home and try to get Liv on the phone."

"The hell I am. We're going back there."

Captain Larsen kept his eye on the front door of the building while on his radio getting as much information as he could. "What floors are cleared?"

"Forth floor and fifth, all clear."

"Second floor all clear"

"Third all clear"

"First is clear. No signs of a shooter, Captain."

"How many bodies?"

"I've counted five bodies, Captain."

Fitz ran towards Captain Larsen again, out of breath. "Liv's not here, Tom. Olivia's has to be in there still."

"My guys have it cleared, Fitz. There's no one alive in the building other than officers," Tom told him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Are you sure Olivia's not out here? Have you tried her phone?"

"I've been calling, and it goes to voicemail. She's still in there, I know it. I've got to go find her."

Just as he was about to run in, Tom grabbed his arm and pulled him back hard. "You aren't going in there. My guys are in there and got everyone out. I've got five dead people in there and no shooter in sight. You are a civilian, now back the hell up and let me do my job." Tom grabbed his radio and called in. "I've got a missing woman believed to still be in there, you're sure there's no one else in there."

"Negative, Captain, everyone is out."

"Can you identify the bodies? Is it anyone you know? Anyone you recognize?"

"Two officers. Franks and Vasquez down here in holding."

"And the others?"

"Judge Sparks, Lucinda, and an African American woman here."

Fitz nearly pushed Tom over to get into the building. "That's got to be Liv!"

"Listen to me, Fitz. You are not going in there. That's an order, Captain," Tom barked at him. Turning back to the radio, "I need identification on that lady. Do you see a purse or a phone?"

"I have a purse." They waited a few moments before the call came back. "Driver's license says Olivia Pope, but this isn't her. The picture on the id doesn't match the girl here."

Breathing a sigh of relief, Fitz ran his hands through his hair and looked around again. Attempting to find her, he only saw Jerry and Verna coming towards him. "It's not Liv. It's not Liv. Liv's not dead," he told them as Jerry hugged him.

"Where is she? Where's Livia?" Jerry asked, taking hold of Fitz's shoulders.

"I can't find her."

Stepping beside Fitz, Jerry went to the captain. "Do you know who escaped? Who's dead?"

"We don't know who escaped, we're looking to get video footage of who it is. Sparks is dead. Lucinda too."

Jerry felt his stomach drop as the words hit his ears. "Anyone else? Is anyone else dead?"

"Two officers and a woman we don't know who she is. But it's not Olivia."

"Captain, video surveillance just came in," an officer got his attention and handed him an iPad.

"Can you identify him? Run it through recognition. See if there's a match."

Tom zoomed in on the face of the man shooting the officers. Looking over his shoulder, Jerry could see the screen. "Shit! That's Edison Davis. I knew it."

Ripping the tablet from his hands, Fitz looked at the video. "Where is he? Is he accounted for?"

Tom went to his radio and called. "Make sure all the prisoners are accounted for. Davis is the shooter. Is he in custody?"

Waiting several minutes, Fitz paced back and forth beside the police cars. He took her. She's not dead because he took her. Where is she? I shouldn't have let her go back in. I should have gone with her. What was I thinking! Hearing the sirens turn off, lights still flashing, Fitz watched his feet take the steps on autopilot.

"Davis isn't here."

"Damn it!" Fitz screamed. "Where's the footage from the exits? He couldn't just vanish into thin air!" Taking a look at it with him, Fitz and Jerry watched the video of Edison carrying Olivia outside the back exit where the cop cars parked. "He fucking took her! How far do you think he could have gotten? They can't be far."

"Captain, one of the cars is missing. Car 27 isn't here. Record says Franks and Vasquez checked it out this morning."

"Track it, figure out where they are. Fitz, we'll find her. Just let us do our job. Come down to the station and wait there."

"You want me to wait? How can I do that?"

Verna stepped behind him and lightly squeezed his shoulder. "We'll wait with you. Jerry and I will come with you down to the station and wait there. They'll find her."

Having no other choice, Fitz followed Jerry and Verna back to the car. "I shouldn't have let her go alone. She should have gone up to the clerks' office," Fitz mumbled on the ride.

"Where was she going?" Verna asked, turning towards the back seat to see him.

"To get her coat. She left it in the courtroom and told me to get the mail. I should have gotten her coat. Damn it! How could I be so stupid!"

"You didn't know anything like this could happen, Fitz. No one could have known. The police will find her. They can track them down in the police car. All of them are have GPS locaters. Olivia will be just fine. You know Olivia. There's nothing she can't handle," she tried to reassure him.

"Except, she didn't look conscious when he carried her out, sweetie," Jerry told her. "And if she was, she never would have let that happen. But Fitz, the police will find her and Edison. And if we're lucky, they'll shoot him dead."

"Appealing as that sounds, I'd really just like Olivia back unharmed."

Getting into the station, the three were escorted to an interview room and waited for news. Fitz paced around the room looking at the door every few seconds, praying someone would open it and have Liv with them. Jerry texted Kim and Huck and told them not to come down here and stay with Javier. Verna tried her best to get Fitz to sit down and drink some water but didn't get anywhere with it.

Finally, after half an hour, Tom appeared at the door with another officer. "Did you find her?"

"We've located the car. They stopped somewhere in Maryland. I've sent a team out to them. That's just where the car stopped," Tom informed them.

"So, they might not even be there? Can't you call Maryland to send a local out?" Fitz questioned.

"That's what I'm doing, Fitz. I'm not waiting around for my DC guys to get out there. I know how to do my job. We've put an APB out for both of them and gave their descriptions. The entire city, and now Maryland, is on the look out for them. We are going to find her."

"Find her. Now," Jerry barked at him. "I don't care how you do it or what means you need, find her."

Verna held Jerry's arm back to keep him seated. "They will, they are going to."

Closing the door, Tom returned to his team for an update. "Maryland PD says the car is in a diner parking lot but there's no sign of either of them. PD asked a waitress if she'd see him. She said he got into an old truck a customer left. Customer said it wouldn't start this morning and asked if she could leave it there."

"Do we know who the truck owner is?"

"We got security cameras from the diner and got a license plate. State says it belongs to a Hal Rimbeau and he's been in prison for three years. His wife, Jessica, gets the plate renewed every year."

Pulling up her license, another officer jumped from his seat seeing her picture. "That's the dead girl! She's the one who was shot at the courthouse."

"See if there's any connection between Hal and Edison. Maybe Hal knows where to find him."

Waiting for another three hours in the room, all three of them were getting on edge to figure out what was happening. Getting no updates was driving Fitz insane.

"We think we know where they are."

"Finally! Where are they? Where's Liv?" Fitz shouted at Tom.

"Edison's old cellmate says he let him borrow his cabin for the week. Hal told his wife to get it set up for them. She's the woman we couldn't identify that was killed at the courthouse."

"How soon can they get to them?" Jerry asked, grabbing Verna's hand.

"Maryland PD is on the way to the property, but they have to send a few parties."

"What are you talking about?"

"The property is two hundred acres of hunting ground. All woods. There's one cabin somewhere in the middle of it. Maryland PD, my guys, feds, and SWAT are headed there now. We're just another step closer to finding her."
