Grissom, as she expected, had no issues with them leaving and Doc agreed without question, to hold onto his family's bodies until they determined what was to happen.

So, once she was packed Sara drove him back to his apartment, where he too packed a small duffel, his heart in his throat.

The last time he had been to either his parents or his grandparents' house, they were there celebrating his birthday, which was just two months before, now he was walking in on his own, their ghosts lingering like a movie before him.

"Oh my god." Greg cried out as Sara pulled onto the highway heading West, her eyes widening as she put a hand to his thigh.

"What Greg? What's wrong?"

Pressing his palms into his eyes he tried to calm his suddenly hysterical tears, his body shaking. "The last time I went back…two months ago…my birthday."

Sara cringed remembering how excited he had been the week leading up to his mini vacation and how he rambled without abandon after returning. "It'll be okay Greg."

For the next four hours Sara did her best to keep him from having another meltdown, her own heart aching watching him go through the motions as she drove to his parents' house.

Pulling up outside a beautiful light bricked one story house, a charming bay window sat next to the driveway. "This place is gorgeous."

"It is…" Greg whimpered pushing open the passenger door roughly. His whole-body language was hesitant, his fear of walking into such a sacred place on his own nearly overwhelming. "Sara…"

"You can do this Greg…I'll be right there with you." Sara smiled, putting a hand on his shoulder as they stepped out of the car.

"Sara…" He started pulling her back by her arm when she started to walk toward the house. "…before we go inside, I want to say I'm sorry for how I may behave or react. I have a lot of memories…"

"Greg…" She cut him off, turning to him. "I'm here to help you in whatever way you need. So, let's get inside and get started."

"Thanks."

Stepping into his parents the Greg she knew disappeared, replaced by the stoic form of a man, his heart shattered beyond words.

"Its okay…come on." Sara smiled trying to ease his pain walking him to the couch. Once he sat, so did she, her arm curling around his neck. "Catch your bearings then we can start."

Leaning into her comforting embrace he sighed, closing his eyes. "Thank you, Sara."

After an hour Greg finally spoke again. "Is it…is it okay if we just watch some movies or something? Get acclimated?...I don't think I can go through their stuff right now."

Sensing his unease Sara nodded, smiling. "Of course, Greg. We can start tomorrow."

Ordering pizzas they watched movie after movie before falling asleep together.

Stirring the next morning Sara moaned in appreciation, snuggling deeper into the warmth that surrounded her. Wait? Warmth? Opening her eyes, she was stunned to find herself on the inside of the couch, Greg's arms wrapped around her, her head on his chest.

Lifting her head gently she took in his slumbering features. After everything he dealt with, he lay beneath her, completely serene, his breaths and touch soft against her back.

The kiss they shared the previous night came back to the forefront of her mind her eyes on his lips her heart pounding deep in her chest. She needed to stop this. These sudden and overwhelming feelings for a man she thought of as a friend.

Pushing up Sara cringed as he groaned, his head dropping to the spot hers abandoned, his arm tightening against her waist. Rubbing gently at the arm across her waist, she tried to focus on coaxing him awake and not the sparks she felt touching his skin. "Greg…Greg time to wake up."

Greg groaned again, his eyes fluttering open. When his eyes fully opened, they stared for a long minute before his arm, that lay around her, suddenly shot to the back of the couch. "Oh god I did it again…I'm sorry."

"Greg…really…its okay…" Since his arm moved to the back of the couch, his chest lay open, which is where her hands landed as she tried to coax the comfort back in his eyes.

It didn't. Instead, he felt awkward with the sudden need to distance himself. "I don't need your pity, Sara."

Sara's eyes doubled at his words, her hands pulling from his chest. "Is that what you think I'm doing?"

"I don't know Sara…" Greg voice came out deflated, his legs pulled up to his chest, pushing her further down the couch and leaving her area to get off the couch. "The last you and I spoke before was to do with Hank and the Tupac thing…you laughed at me like I was a joke." When she didn't respond he let out a dry chuckle, pulling his keys from his pocket and tossing them on the table. "If that's what you think then take the car and go. I'll find my own way back." With that he got off the couch, stomping down the hall and slamming the door behind him as he went into a room.

Sara cringed as the door slammed shut. He wasn't wrong when he mentioned their last encounter, before he lost his family, she had laughed at how cheesy he sounded but in no way was she laughing at him. Now he sat alone in a room thinking otherwise. She had to do something.

She was about to get up and knock on his door, but she held back, deciding to let his anger dissipate before speaking to him again.
