Chapter 3: Blood Oath.
The Knights of the Blood Oath were a strictly HUMAN Organization. During the Rise of the Demon Lord 2000 years ago, many Demi-humans- as the term was then- were subjugated by the Kingdoms of men. The once Allies of Humanity in the war with the previous Demon Lord 2000 years ago were now playthings to the appetites and sins of men. So when a Demon Lord emerged a mere 500 years after the previous one offering freedom to the races it was a wonder that all the other races quickly banded together to go after the humans. Thus began the 500-year Extermination war.
However, thanks to the horrors and wrongs brought by humans these races were left weak and subservient to demons, as their populations were strictly controlled. Used as more fodder than as partners it was quickly becoming clear to the other races that they were nothing but playthings to both Demons and humans. Even the Godkin had opted to stay out of this fight and inside their domains. As this was a war for 'mortals' alone.
In a last-ditch effort to end the war and what could be the extension of humans the last remaining 8 kingdoms each chose a warrior to accompany the Saintess of the church Subaru on her journey to battle the demon King and his forces. They also picked up a 9th companion who sword no loyalty to any one kingdom, but to humanity itself.
Before the Kings, Queens, and remaining aristocracy these hero's all took an Oath of blood to kill the Demon King and his allies or die trying. Thus, the Knights of the Blood Oath were born.
Location: Zion
Place: Vice-Commander Asuna's Office
Time: Late Afternoon
The Great Hall of the Knights of the Blood Oath base In Zion was home to 150 blooded Knights, 50 Otah Keepers AKA Scribes, and 300 acolytes ready to take the Oath of Blood or the Blade of Blood. The entrance hall was adorned with the banners of the Order. One of the smaller factions of the KOB, they were easily one of the strongest in the entire combat division.
Currently pacing in her office was the Vice-Commander of the Special Assignments Division, Lady Asuna 'The Flash' Yuuki
She was pretty, not overly beautiful like some women around Zion, but were she not under the Oath of Blood she could have her pick of men to court her. While not curvy like many women she still had a fair bit of toned muscle, long, orange-brownish chestnut hair with a small ponytail pulled up in the back while the rest was left to flow freely. she wore a red and white uniform that all KoB members wear, but unlike the full plate armor that majority wore Asuna;s was a sleeveless white silk tunic, white pull-on sleeves, platinum plate chest armor and matching shoes, thigh high stockings with the crest of the KOB on it, and on her side was her rapier made from orichalcum. This was Lady Asuna. One of the strongest members outside the KOB council.
Sitting in the chairs around her desk were the Lead Commander of the Combat division And KOB council Member Miguel. A tall and well-muscled, bronze skinned man who once served as a shielder, but no longer used a shield and instead settled on a two-handed buster-sword and Head Scribe and Council member Hester. A wise man who had advised the Previous Supreme Commander. Normally the Head Scribe and Combat Division Commander were never in the same room if they could avoid it as both were candidates to take over for Supreme Commander when Commandeer Heathcliff decided to retire or more likely died on that battlefield.
"Where is this man?" asked Hester as he took a cup from an acolyte who was to attend to Asuna's needs for the day.
"We came here under the suspicion that you were intimate with this man and he would make a good addition to the Knights, but he is nowhere to be seen.
"Mr. Uzumaki and I are acquaintances. Nothing more, nothing less as I have previously explained to the both of you as well as my acting second, lieutenant Kuradeel," said Asuna as she glared at her Second
the man was quite tall and skinny, with his black hair pulled into a pony-tail Kuradeel was in his early to mid-twenties, but due to the wrinkles on his face, he looked much older closer to his late 30's. He wore a standard white and red KoB uniform with a white and red metal chest plate, greaves, and shoes, as well as white metal bracers, brownish-gray gloves, and a white cape. On his side was a bastard sword but was still strong enough to rise to the rank of Lieutenant within KOB, which in and of itself was impressive, considering that most KOB never rose past the Rank of Corporal or Sergeant if they didn't go into one of the specialized branches of the Organization.
"I'm sorry Lady Asuna, but with Captain Shion on a mission, it falls to me to report everything to the Head Branch," said Kuradeel bowing his head to his commander.
Asuna glared at him. "We will discuss your 'interpretation of things that need to go to the Head Branch once this is done," said Asuna
It had been nearly two hours since she had requested Naruto to come to her office. Honestly, Asuna was a busy woman, but not as busy as the duo who were in front of her. They were here on Official business and it was for the council and Supreme commander. Normally these two would not be caught working together unless the council and Supreme commander directed. That being said they were here for political reasons.
"Think of it Vice-Commander. You are one of the strongest women in the history of the KOB. Many compare your beauty and strength to that of Saintess Subaru herself. Think of the boon the Knights would have if you were to Wed someone as influential as Sir Uzumaki," said Migul.
Asuna sighed as she took a seat at her desk and glared at the two. That's all it came down to influence. While the Knights served no one Human territory, they were far from the only military power that posed a threat. Officially their only role was to serve as the main forces when-not if- the Demon King returned. They were already within the window of the Demon King's return. This was evident by the rise in attacks from Rouge races/Clans. Yet here they were hoping that she would get knocked up by a man who had an in with the Hero Clan and by extension the Crimson Haired Clan. The only two Human Clans with enough magic and skill to rival that of only the strongest demons and mages. Also, the only two clans who didn't pledge any type of loyalty to the Knights since the Hero Clan and Crimson-haired Clan were technically independent powers.
"I told you both that I have no desire to marry such a weak man. The only man I would ever consider marrying is the Black Swordman, the strongest swordsman in the world and candidate for Hero," snorted Asuna (1)
Hester frowned at this. The Oath of Blood was not something to take lightly. While the Oath didn't prohibit sexual affairs between its members or outside; marriage was something NOT permitted in the slightest. Only the Council could approve marriage for its members and with so many branches and divisions to worry about each branch had it's council who reported to the Commander of that branch. If a council approved of a marriage it had to go up to the High Council for final approval. Whether they approved or not was another matter. A Branch Council could approve a marriage and it would be recognized by that branch alone, but if the High Council approved, then the entire organization was to approve it. In the history of the Knights only five marriages had been approved by the high council. Lady Subaru and her Lover of the era Arashi Namikaze of the then-warring clans of the east were the first-ever married couple. They were buried together in the main headquarters of the Knights.
The only reason the High Council pushed for this was because the knights needed to have this influence. Uzumaki had an in with Jin, the strongest Adventurer from the Hero clan. Not to mention that his hostel was a high-traffic location to Zion. Not to mention that he had an in with all the higher-ups of the city to some degree. And the Adventurers Guild had a lot of power.
"Asuna are you refusing the Oath you took?" asked Miguel narrowing his eyes.
Asuna froze upon hearing this. They had never planned on asking her. They were ordering her to do so. Under the Oath of Blood for the betterment and protection of humanity, no order from a higher-up may be ignored. Of course, the Otah wasn't as ironclad as in the past lest the kind members of the Oath took advantage of this. During the regain of the 29th Supreme Commander Rinna, she had deals with slaver groups that sold Demi's to human nobles and merchants. It was the reason that an amendment to the order had occurred where the High Council, Surpme Commander, Lead Commander of the Combat Division, and Head Scribe could hold court for an 'oath breaker'. Breaking the Oath of Blood was a testament to treason to the entirety of humanity since the KOB represented the best of all Humanity. In the entire 1500-year history of the KOB there had only been 12 Oath Breakers
"I'm NO oath-breaker!" yelled Asuna.
"Then you will wed sir Uzumaki as has been told to you," said Hester.
"Don't I get a say in this?" asked Naruto sitting in window of the with his arms crossed.
Hester, Asuna, Migul, and Kuradeel all looked at Naruto in surprise. Not only were they on the third floor of the most secure wing of the base, but he also got within range of all of their senses, but none of them even noticed he was there. To sneak up of Four of the most high-ranking members of the Knights of the Blood Oath was not something so easy to do.
Kuradeel put his hand on his sword. "How long have you been there?" asked the Knight.
Naruto put a hand on his chin. "Probably about the time you started talking about your crush on Kirito," said Naruto with a smirk.
Asuna blushed and looked away from the blonde-haired man.
"Sir Uzumaki as you have heard the High Councils attention, will you wed Vice-Commander Asuna?" asked Hester.
"Sorry, as beautiful as Lady Asuna is I have no desire to take her as my wife," said Naruto.
"The oath of blood is absolute," said Migul.
"To the Knights of the Blood Oath. Under the Original Blood Oath of the Sanitess, her ten heroes, and the Knights were to do everything in their power to protect humanity. In order do this they all gave up the right to marry or sire children until they fulfilled their mission. Lady Subaru and one of the heroes even married, although they never had children together and thus Nate and Subaru took command of the Order as its first Commander and first Scribe respectively," said Naruto.
Hester flushed hot at this. "This is common Knowledge to the world boy! The Knight never hid our origins from the world," said Hester.
"Then as you know an order from our Council is Absolute and carries a great deal of wight behind it
"True, but I'm no Knight, so I can ignore the Oath and summons from your Council," said Naruto turning to leave.
"But Asuna can't... If she can't fufill a request from the council then the only recourse for her is Honor-death," said Hester.
Naruto stopped in place. Honor death was a fancy way of saying suicide. It was made after his time as Supreme Commander but it was still his organization that implicated something so horrible. Country or Organization above bonds. It was crap like that that drove His sensei's father to kill himself and Danzo to make his Root puppets for his twisted sense of 'Will of Fire'.
The blonde turned back to the Knights. "Challenge of Oath Under Section 9 Article 15 of the Rules of Blood. When an Oath is forced upon a member of the Knights that involves a civilian that is not part of the Knights, the civilian in question may challenge the Oath on behalf of the Knight that the Oath is forced under. Should the Non-Knight when then the Oath is rescinded and cannot be reissued? So when I win against your chosen warrior then you will not bug Asuna or approach me about a marriage to a female Knight or Scribe unless it is a natural affair and blessed by the Great Mother as marriage is her domain," said Naruto.
Hester looked at Naruto with a narrowed eye. The Articles of Blood were NOT something a non-knight should know about. Perhaps this whelp's parents were exiled or degraded Scribes or Knights.
"If you're going to quote a passage from the Articles of Blood then you know that should you lose the challenge you must fulfill the request of the Knights," said Hester.
"Challenge accepted," said Naruto smirking.
"Then we have an accord. Let us head to the training fields," said Migul.
"No," said Naruto
"What do you mean BOY!? We have an accord!" yelled Hester.
"Yes, but I want there will be witnesses, both yours and mine. As Asuna is a member of the Knights she can't serve as my witness. Come to my Inn and I will have everything set in one hour," said Naruto.
