Chapter 65 Harry at ease, Dumbledore's idea, Amelia tries to help, private room
There is a small canon part **CANON**….**End Canon**
31st October 1994, Professor McGonagall's office, Fifth Floor, Gryffindor Tower
Professor McGonagall can't contain a smile at Andi who seems really concerned about Harry. Professor McGonagall is happy that Andi is just like in Harry's youth.
She says "I will let Harry explain as I need to see Albus concerning this matter."
Professor McGonagall turns to Harry and says "You can better tell them anything as when I return, I will tell them anything. If I notice that you didn't I think detention will be the least of your problem. It is no threat, it is a fact."
Harry nods nervously when Professor McGonagall leaves Harry alone in her office.
The moment after Professor McGonagall leaves Harry looks at Andi. She asks gently "Harry dear, can you tell us what has happened?"
Harry has no intention of lying. He hasn't known Andi for long but he does feel he can trust her and Sirius also said he can.
Harry says "I don't know how but I got en…."
Harry hears that on the other side, someone entered. She hears a woman he met before scream "SIRIUS ORION BLACK THE THIRD, DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME YOU PUT HARRY UP TO THIS."
Harry thinks 'She thinks I enter too. Why would I want that?'
Sirius says "Amy, it is good to see you again. However, I have no idea what you mean."
It is Amelia Bones. She says "Don't call me that. I just received word that Harry was entered into the Tri-Wizard Tournament and the only one who could have encouraged Harry to try it was you."
Andi asks immediately "Harry, is that true? Did you enter the Tri-Wizard Tournament? Did the mutt put you up to it? Why did you do it? You know it is dangerous, right?"
Harry says "It is true I was entered. I didn't want to enter but somehow my name got out of the Goblet of Fire. Padfoot didn't as I don't want to compete but I have to or I lose my magic. I didn't do it. I know it is dangerous and that is one of the reasons I didn't want to enter."
Harry takes a deep breath, looks straight into Andi's eyes and says almost broken "Andi, I didn't want to enter. Also, I couldn't as Dumbledore drew an age line and He…. Also, I was completely happy to just look from the stands."
"Apparently if an of-age student enters my name it could work I don't know why four names came out. Please believe me, Andi. I don't think many of Hogwarts will. I can't do this if you won't believe me."
Andi sees that Harry is almost breaking down right in front of her. She knew if he was here before her she would hug him and tell him to let it all out. She cannot do that now and doesn't want Professor McGonagall to find a crying Harry.
Andi says "Harry, dear we all believe you. If you said you didn't enter we know you wouldn't enter. Also, what did Hermione do so you couldn't enter?"
Harry asks, seeming to calm down that Andi, Dora, Ted, Padfoot, Moony and maybe even Amelia Bones believe he didn't enter, "What do you mean?"
Andi says "Nice try, Harry. I notice your slip of the tongue as you said He... and that can only be Hermione or is there someone else I should know about?"
Harry shakes his head and says "No. Hermione, Ginny and Luna didn't let me alone for the whole day except when I showered or needed to use the loo. It was almost like they were keeping an eye on me."
Andi asks "How do you mean?"
Harry says "Well, it started this morning. I always take a morning run. I started when supposedly Padfoot was after me and I thought if I tried to improve my endurance it might give me an edge when Padfoot tried anything. Also, it helps clear my mind. I don't know why but even after Padfoot told me the truth and needed to flee I continued. Now I also like it a bit so I continue to do it until this day although I didn't manage to do it a lot during the summer."
"Anyway, during my morning run, I felt someone look at me from near the lake. It was Ginny and Luna looking at me. They didn't run with me but they kept their eyes on me following me with every step."
"Ginny went inside when I just started but Luna stayed. After my run, Luna went to the Thestrals and I went with her. She walked me back to Hogwarts where Ginny was waiting apparently and she followed me back to the Gryffindor Common Room. I went to shower and when I came back Ginny, Katie and Hermione were waiting for me."
"We went to breakfast and then we went to the library until lunch. I never left the library and Hermione, Luna, Ginny and Katie were all there with me. Also. Neville was with us. After lunch, I didn't want to go back to the library and I don't know why but Hermione agreed while she spent most of her time even free time in the library."
"She grabbed a book and went with me to the room with the Goblet of Fire to see who tried to enter if they didn't already. I saw Cedric Diggory, the true Hogwarts champion, put his name in. I just looked I didn't even try to enter my name not that I even wanted to."
Andi says gently "It is alright, Harry. We believe you. Also, after everything I saw and have been told I know you wouldn't want to enter. Maybe when you were of age you would but not now."
Harry says "I wouldn't enter at all not now or ever."
Andi says "I guess after fighting a Basilisk and all your other adventures I can understand. I think many would choose the same if they had the same experience. They wouldn't put their life on the line for …. entertainment, the glory bring to your school and bring glory to your house. House Potter has more than enough glory."
Sirius says with a smile "But just imagine if you win. Your fame and name will become larger an….. AUW that hurt Amy. AUW."
Andi clearly looks at Amelia and says "Amelia while I am sure Sirius deserves this for something he did possibly in the past he didn't do this. I believe Harry that Sirius didn't put him up to this and I know Sirius would probably even ask Harry to reconsider if he wanted to compete. But like I said I believe he didn't want to enter."
Andi looks back at Harry and asks "Do you want to talk until Professor McGonagall returns or…."
Harry interrupts and says "I would like to talk until then."
Andi smiles and says "Of course. Why don't I tell you a story your mother told me that probably Sirius doesn't even know."
Harry can't contain a smile when Andi starts to talk. He hears in the back Remus something adding something as he was close to Lily as a good friend.
31st October 1994, Hogwarts
Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall walks toward Dumbledore's office. She is thinking if maybe she knows any way to help Harry one way or another. She hopes that this year will not be the same as the year of the Chamber of Secrets where Harry got ridiculed and outcasted. She still is ashamed she did nothing to stop them from ridiculing Harry at Dumbledore's orders. There are better ways to build character.
31st October 1994, Headmaster's office, Hogwarts
Professor McGonagall walks in to see Professor Dumbledore, Professor Snape and Professor Moody. Dumbledore is bowed over a stone bowl which Professor McGonagall immediately identifies as a pensive. Which is a rare item as the way to make them have been lost.
There are only a certain amount in the world and most are owned by magical governments and rumoured that Gringotts have quite a few. There are only a few that are in the hands of witches and wizards. There are two kinds of pensives. One where only a few can go in to watch a memory and you have one that can project the memory so more people can see it. Professor McGonagall has read that rare and old pensives can do both although she never has seen one that could.
Professor McGonagall sees that Dumbledore deposited a copy of the memory of tonight no doubt. Dumbledore has told her many times that sometimes it is better to look at a memory after a little bit of time to see things you missed before especially as she already knew he had a pensive.
Dumbledore sees Professor McGonagall and asks "Ah Minerva I trust that you brought Harry back to his common room."
Professor McGonagall says "No, Albus I did not."
Professor Dumbledore looks surprised and asks "Why not, Minerva?"
Professor McGonagall says "Because Mr. Potter knows that a couple of Gryffindor would not be happy with them and requested me to wait a bit before he returns if there is no other way possible. I let him in my Office as Head of Gryffindor until I return."
Professor Dumbledore is not happy with her actions but doesn't let it show. He says "I guess that is fine for now."
Professor McGonagall asks "I hope there is a way to get Mr. Potter out. I mean he clearly didn't want to enter. So what is the plan? Don't you start Severus!"
Professor McGonagall saw that Snape wanted to say something because whenever Harry came up he disrespected Harry and her godson James.
**CANON**
Professor Dumbledore says "I don't think there is anything we can do Harry but compete or lose his magic. Also, he must do his best not only to satisfy the Goblet of Fire and keep his magic but also to survive."
Professor McGonagall looks surprised before she says "This can't go on Albus. First the Dark Mark, now this?"
Professor Dumbledore sighs deeply before he asks "What do you suggest Minerva?"
Professor McGonagall hotly almost screaming says "Put an end to it. Don't let Potter compete."
Professor Dumbledore still leaning over his pensive says "You heard Barty the rules are clear."
Professor McGonagall still almost screaming says "Well the devil with Barty and his rules. And since when did you accommodate them... or the ministry in general."
Snape decides to speak up and says "I must agree with Minerva, I too find it difficult to believe this mere coincidence, if we are to truly discover the meaning of these events perhaps we should for the time being let them unfold."
Professor McGonagall screams "DO NOTHING? OFFER HIM UP AS BAIT? POTTER IS A BOY NOT A PIECE OF MEAT."
Professor McGonagall almost wants to transfigure herself into a large feline like a lion or tiger to rip Snape apart for suggesting this.
Professor Dumbledore nods while he says "I agree with Severus. Alastor, keep an eye on Harry will you?"
Professor McGonagall would have strangled Dumbledore with his own beard if he hadn't asked the former Master Auror to look after Harry. While she will also look after Harry she knows Alastor will do too and probably much more than she can despite some weird behaviour of Alastor but then again he has become very paranoid since the war against You-Know-Who only while he was on Auror duty did he resemble the Alastor she knew like two summers ago when he brought Harry to the Leaky Cauldron as he was on protection detail for Susan Bones which included Harry and Hermione when Susan wanted them to come along.
Professor Moody says "I can do that."
Professor Dumbledore turns around and looks at Professor Moody as he says "Don't let him know though, he must be anxious enough as it is... knowing what lies ahead. Then again, we all are."
**End Canon**
Professor McGonagall knows what Dumbledore means. In her role as Deputy Headmistress, she knows what the tasks entail and is almost completely sure none will change despite having four champions much to her dismay as Harry must compete.
Professor Dumbledore asks "Is there something I can do for you, Minerva?"
Professor McGonagall has only one idea that may give Harry a little bit of peace of mind which is all she can do until she can talk with Regent Potter and Lord Black regarding Harry, respectively her ward and his Heir, to help him through the tri-wizard tournament. Maybe the time to reveal Harry's real guardian is approaching sooner than anticipated.
Professor McGonagall says "Yes, Albus there is something you can do. I think that there may be some problems within Gryffindor House as Harry is forced to compete even though my fierce objection. Maybe it is better if Harry gets one of the private quarters close to the Gryffindor Common Room. He is allowed to invite friends of course, but they must be back in the Common Room before curfew and are not allowed to stay the night."
Professor Dumbledore sees a chance for the greater good by gaining more trust from Professor McGonagall which he needs as he knows she is starting to distrust him because Harry is forced to compete. He thinks 'I must refuse as if his friends can be without being seen peer pressure will not work.'
He says "I am not sure if that is wise, Minerva. Young Harry needs his friends now more than ever. Separating him from Gryffindor House is not the right course of action."
Dumbledore sees Professor McGonagall doesn't like this. He immediately adds "I will think about it as if I only give Harry private quarters it will seem like I privilege him. I also need to give Mr. Diggory a private quarters for that matter and to my knowledge, there is no private room near the Hufflepuff Common Room."
Professor McGonagall says "There are a few of our marriage quarters on the first floor near the stairs closest to Hufflepuffs Common Room and Pomona's office. One of those can be used by Mr. Diggory."
Professor Dumbledore says "I will think about it as it is an important decision also as Harry's magical guardian I must think what is best as Mr. Diggory is indeed of age so he can decide for himself, but I think he would gladly take the room if offered I suppose."
Professor McGonagall knows that pushing Professor Dumbledore will lead to nothing. Also, if she didn't know that Professor Dumbledore lied about being Harry's guardian she would have believed him. Professor McGonagall wonders if maybe she should tell Andi about Professor Dumbledore's claim but that should be through a letter as Harry doesn't need to know this….. at least not at this time.
Professor McGonagall says "I could better leave to take Harry to the Gryffindor Common Room. Albus, I wouldn't wait too long to decide as this is a very sensitive situation. Also, you can give Harry a private quarter as he is the last Heir of House Potter. He needs to be taught to lead his House when he will be of age."
Dumbledore nods and says "I know, Minerva. However, I want Harry to have a happy childhood. There will be enough time at a later moment."
Inside Dumbledore thinks 'Why would I waste time on something he would never need? I just need him to make Ginevra pregnant with a boy and at the right time, he will walk to his death. Harry having a son who can live without war will push him to do it without hesitation. Friends can prevent him from doing that and the more friends the more he will hesitate. Also, the more friends that will fight with him the more magical blood would spill although I wouldn't mind if mudbloods suffer like Granger. The number of mudbloods need to be contained it was already bad enough that the mudblood Lily became Lady Potter.'
Professor McGonagall says right before leaving the room "Also, Albus, you never said that a Veela will be here. Don't you think it is dangerous?"
Professor Dumbledore says "Ah yes, the lovely Miss Delacour. Madam Maxime did inform me beforehand. While I told Madam Maxime that our male students may act embarrassing there should be almost no problem. We have no Veela enclave in our country and therefore our wizards are more affected by her Allure. I told Madam Maxime about this and she would tell Miss Delacour and that for some wizards she may need to watch out as Madam Maxime know that there are always some wizards who can't control themselves."
"Apparently Miss Delacour wanted to go here. Madam Maxime have offered Miss Delacour to stay in Beauxbatons which she apparently didn't do. I do not know why Miss Delacour would come here despite the warning although maybe she did want to compete in the Tri-Wizard tournament. I know we already have a problem with young Harry entering but if you don't mind, Minerva, keep an eye on our young students when Miss Delacour is close. I am sure you can keep them from doing anything."
Professor McGonagall would do so without him asking her although it doesn't make her feel good with this situation. Sure, Miss Delacour has every right to compete if she was chosen what did happen, but, she would have liked it if Albus let her know earlier. Then she could have asked Alastor to have a class about Veela's or maybe Filius would have been better as he is a part Goblin and part human. Veela are also part human unless they are angry, in danger or stressful situation. Professor McGonagall doesn't know much more about Veela but she does know that in those situations Veela's will more likely than not change into their bird-like form. She also knows about the Allure as that is her biggest concern regarding Miss Delacour.
Professor McGonagall says "Now I really need to go."
Professor Dumbledore nods but doesn't say anything.
She leaves Professor Dumbledore alone. Professor Dumbledore thinks 'This can only be Tom who wants Harry in the tournament, but who did enter Harry Tom wanted it but he wouldn't do it on his own. Severus cannot do it. Igor wouldn't do that as he will be killed when Tom comes back. None of the students can enter, Harry, as the Goblet would have recognized Harry as too young. The Greater Good must want Harry in the Tri-wizard Tournament.'
'Alastor can also be right someone must have enchanted the Goblet to have a fourth school with Harry as the only one to put his name in the Goblet had no choice but to accept. Perhaps as none other entered from that school Harry wasn't seen as too young and the one who put his name in the Goblet wasn't hit by the age line or the Goblet was also enchanted to not recognize Harry as too young. Dumbledore could not help but be impressed if Tom planned this. He wouldn't think of it until Alastor mentioned the Goblet being deceived.'
31st October 1994, Professor McGonagall's office, Fifth Floor, Gryffindor Tower
Professor McGonagall walks in and sees a smiling Harry. When she walks closer she sees Andromeda Tonks with Sirius at her side. She hears Andi talking and within a few seconds, she knows what Andi is talking about. A famous story between James and Lily … well actually James and his friends for the main part but in the end it was between James and Lily after they became a couple and Lily managed to stop James from pulling a prank which was very close to bullying which Sirius admits and said honestly it was the rat's idea, the only idea he ever had for a prank although this was more bullying than prank which could them a lot of trouble even with Dumbledore as headmaster as it was really cruel.
Professor McGonagall knew that James, Sirius and Remus would never come up with such an idea, yes they hated certain Slytherins, not all of them but this was too much even for their pranks which some were also close to bullying this one went just too far. It seems that none told Harry the rat had the idea or how cruel it really was but maybe they shouldn't do it.
Lily really saved them after she managed James to reconsider and gave a small incentive, especially when he decided to not do it as he got a reward from Lily. Professor McGonagall doesn't know what the reward is and probably doesn't want to know. Sirius needed to be cursed by Lily repeatedly before he 'realized' that not doing it would be best, especially for his health. Professor McGonagall is surprised when Sirius tells Harry that while most pranks were fun some went too far and that sometimes he and his father were like bullies which they both regarded almost immediately save a few wizards and even apologized to a couple. Harry doesn't want to believe it but he can understand that pranks aren't always fun. Harry had enough experience with Dudley who thought it was hilarious when he 'pranked' Harry.
It took a couple of minutes of talking before Harry got a smile again and said here and there "That is really funny."
Sirius gets a hit few times by Andi when he says he will teach Harry how to do it. Professor McGonagall doesn't want to break this up as even after another bad Halloween Harry needs this. Professor McGonagall wonders how Harry hasn't gone mental until now.
She waits a few more minutes before she steps next to Harry so they can see her. Professor McGonagall asks if Harry told them. Andi immediately tells Professor McGonagall what Harry told them and Professor McGonagall says after a few minutes listening to Andi that everything Harry said about what happened is true to her knowledge. She also tells them that she fully believes Harry didn't enter his name, but that doesn't change the rules according to Dumbledore as Harry is chosen.
It is nearing midnight and Professor McGonagall doesn't want to keep Harry up to late. After today he needs his sleep. Also, Professor McGonagall thinks that Hermione, Ginny and Katie will be waiting for Harry.
Professor McGonagall says "Harry, it is time for you to return to your Common Room. It is nearing midnight and tomorrow you will have class again."
Harry nods and says "I guess you are right, Professor McGonagall. Bye, Padfoot, Moony, Andi, Ted and Madam Bones. You too Nymfie."
Andi is the first to respond and says "We all trust you Harry and we all love you. Goodnight dear."
Sirius says "Believe Andi and goodnight Pup."
Harry gives a weak smile when Sirius and Andi disappear from view and he only sees himself in the mirror with Professor McGonagall behind him. Professor McGonagall sees that Harry seems a bit better than before she left but she knows that Harry will have a hard time especially if barely anyone will believe him. She hopes that the girls he has spent more time with will believe him. She is still surprised and detested by Professor Dumbledore's choice to use Harry as bait. She will not care if she breaks the rules of the Tri-wizard Tournament she will help Harry in every way she can despite being a Gryffindor although she can't with the first task unless Harry finds it out on his own. She wouldn't care if she needed to tap into her small Slytherin side and be cunning to help Harry. She hopes she can without breaking the rules but she wouldn't be surprised if the chosen Champions from Beauxbatons and Durmstang will get help from their, respectively, Headmistress and Headmaster.
1st November 1994, Gryffindor Tower, Hogwarts
It takes a couple of minutes before they reach Gryffindor Common Room. The moment the clock strikes midnight they are in front of the portrait of the Fat Lady. Harry says the password and she immediately opens it while she is asleep.
They walk inside and to Professor McGonagall's surprise, nobody is in the Common Room. When she walks to the stairs that lead to the dorms she hears many voices meaning many of her cubs where still awake. She knows her prefects and head boy didn't have patrol tonight so they probably ordered all the other students to their dorm as they should when it becomes too late.
Professor McGonagall doesn't know if this is good or bad as Harry needs his friends and his girls. She starts to see Hermione, Ginny and Katie from Gryffindor and Luna from Ravenclaw as his girls.
Professor McGonagall says "You can better go to bed, Harry. You have classes again tomorrow. You are allowed to make your own decision about going to class or not but I don't think Miss Granger would like it if you don't go to class."
Professor McGonagall is happy what she said worked as Harry seems to get afraid and says "I guess you are right. Good night Professor McGonagall."
1st November 1994, Living Room, Tonkses home
After Sirius stops the connection nothing is said for a bit. All this time Amelia has stayed as she needs to talk with Harry's guardian and godfather to see what can be done to help Harry in any way. Also, this was the first time Sirius told someone about the pranks so she knows what the pranks were although she knew most of them even if Sirius (and the other Marauders even temporary marauders like Frank) denied they did it.
She, Lily and Alice if Frank helped them always knew it was them which means that the guys got hexed by their girlfriends except Remus as Lily had a soft spot for Remus he was just scolded by her. Lily hexed her boyfriend (and even before James was) he was hexed but not too much. Sirius was hexed the most by Lily then by Amelia when they got feelings for each other and when she graduated Lily was more than happy to do it again. Alice only hexed Frank if he was stupid enough to help the marauders. They didn't hex Pettigrew much as they didn't like him so barely talked. Pettigrew was also never the mastermind, had only a minor role, and was only doing as he was told and following either James or Sirius. Remus was the calm and responsible one in the group if there was one.
Andi asks "What can we do to help Harry?"
Ted asks "Can't we get him out of it?"
Amelia is the first one to say "I am not sure that is possible. I, also, don't know how he could enter."
Andi immediately gets mad and almost needs to be held back as she venomously screams "HE DID NOT ENTER."
Amelia remains indifferent but inside she is scared for the first time in a very long time. She notices she misspoke as she fully believes Harry didn't enter the tournament not only by what she knows of him but also by the look on his face. He tells unmistakably the truth everyone should be able to see that, not only a trained Auror. Also, as this is life-threatening she doesn't know why she blamed Sirius as he would never convince Harry to do something that could endanger his life.
Amelia immediately says to stop Andi from pulling her wand "I am sorry, Madam Tonks, I didn't mean it like that. I mean I don't know who put his name in as I, also, don't know if we can get him out of the tournament or if anyone can get him out of the tournament at all. It is one of the couple of reasons it supposedly only allowed of-age wizards as Director Crouch said it Goblet makes and an unbreakable contract the chosen must compete."
"It was that the student that got chosen can't refuse to compete if they change their mind and also the student must be of age so the parents cannot decide for the student as he is of age meaning the parents can't pull the student out. Also, the student needs to bear the consequences if he puts his or her name in."
Andi slumps in her chair and asks "So there is nothing we can do?"
Amelia says "I am not sure. I will go to Hogwarts in a couple of days before the first official part of the Tri-wizard tournament. If there is any way to get him out it should happen before the first official part or in this case ceremony which should be The Weighing of the Wands ceremony. I need the coming days to talk with certain experts about the Goblet of Fire and magical contracts made by an object."
"I think it will take at least until Friday the 4th before I can go to Hogwarts and be there are the Director of the DMLE investigating this. Madam Tonks, as Harry's magical guardian I will keep you posted if I find anything out even if it is something you don't want to hear like that he will be forced to compete. I think I better go as there is a lot to do."
Andi says still a bit mad "I appreciate it, Madam Bones or should I say Director Bones?"
Amelia says "I understand you are still mad at me Madam Tonks, but I prefer Amelia."
Andi decides that Amelia seems to be trying to help Harry. She says "Alright Amelia, but as you seem to help Harry for your own agenda or not you can call me Andromeda or Andi if you prefer."
Amelia says "Thank you, Andromeda. While we were kind of friends before the attack. We hadn't seen each other in a long time and didn't even try to see each other. I think it is too soon again to call you Andi. I think in time I can again if you still prefer it at that time."
Andi just nods when Amelia bit them goodbye and a good night as she knows she will probably, although it looks like Sirius, Remus and Andi will not have a good night Nymfie also seems distraught while Ted tries to soothe Andi.
1st November 1994, Gryffindor, Fourth-year boys dorm, Gryffindor Tower, Hogwarts
Harry has slept well despite the circumstances. When he wakes up he is surprised that Ron sits on his bed almost like he is waiting for Harry to wake up. The moment he sees Harry is awake he asks "How did you do it?"
Harry is silent. Harry manages to not look surprised that Ron doesn't believe he didn't enter. As his best mate he should at least believe Harry didn't enter as he made clear he would never do that even if he was of age.
Ron sees that Harry doesn't intend to answer. He says "Never mind. Doesn't matter. You could have let your best friend know though."
Harry is surprised and asks "Let you know what?"
Ron seems very mad and almost screams "You know bloody well what."
Harry suddenly realises what Ron means and tries to calmly say "I didn't ask for this to happen Ron. Okay? You're being stupid."
Ron is very mad right now as he almost spat "Yeah that's me, Ron Weasley... Harry Potter's stupid friend."
Normally Harry would try to lift the spirit if someone does like Ron's do now, but Harry doesn't care about that now. Harry slowly becomes mad at Ron for not believing him. He says hotly "I didn't put my name in that cup. I don't WANT eternal glory I just wanna be... Look, I don't know what happened last night and I don't know why, it just did okay."
Ron clearly didn't want to hear it. Ron walks towards the door of the dorm room. He says hard "Piss off" and leaves slamming the door on his way out.
Harry slumps a bit when he feels a hand on his shoulder. He looks and sees Neville with a smile. He says nervously "For what it is worth Harry. I believe you."
Harry gives a forced smile and says "Thank you, Neville. It means a lot."
Harry tells the truth that it means a lot that Neville trusts him but the smile is forced as his first friend his age obviously does not believe him. Ron is still important as his friend his age although Neville has almost reached the same point as Ron's friendship before Ron didn't believe him. At this point, Neville is way above Ron in terms of friendship. Harry isn't sure if he can forgive Ron after he almost abandoned him and Hermione in their second year and doesn't want to believe him of Sirius's innocence last year.
Almost 15 minutes later Harry has showered and walks down to the Common Room. He immediately decides to head to breakfast the moment he enters everyone stops talking and looks at him. Most of them with hatred if not worse while somewhere curious whether he really did it or how he did it.
Harry doesn't like being the centre of attention, especially in this case. He tries to avoid everyone's eyes and walks to the portrait for probably one of the worst days in Hogwarts if not the worst unless Cedric can convince everyone which seems unlikely as the whole Slytherin House hates him save a bare few like Daphne or Tracey although Daphne kind of said she can't tolerate him so she probably dislikes him although that is still a big improvement what the other of Slytherin house think of him.
Harry didn't know how but somehow without thinking he managed to enter the Great Hall and sat down where he said his second year at the end of the table furthest away from the Professor's near the entrance of the Great Hall which almost means as far away from the other Gryffindor's who are already down eating their breakfast. Harry doesn't need to look up knowing that everyone is watching him. It is even worse than his second year as now also Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are here. Also this time they aren't frightened but mad at him for something he didn't do or wanted.
4th November 1994, Hogwarts
Harry is depressed as the one who should trust the most has chosen the other side. Hermione was always there for them but after he has been chosen she is spending time with Ron. During meals, she sits with him and talks with him. Even during class, she sits at the same table as him. It is the same right now during Breakfast.
Fortunately, Harry still has Neville and Ginny. Ginny seems very mad at Ron but not Hermione. Harry can never be mad at Hermione like he wasn't really mad last Yule when she went behind his back to Professor McGonagall about the Firebolt which was probably smart as they didn't know any better about Sirius Black. He wasn't really hurt.
This time it really hurts him it is even worse than his second year when he was called the Heir of Slytherin while he wasn't at that time even though he is now. This time it is almost like his heart has been ripped out of him and being stamped on it and he feels the stamping on his heart. Having Ginny lessens the pain a bit. When Katie is lessening even more the pain is still too much for Harry. He has felt pain but this hurts the most. He has never felt this before and it also affects his classwork as everything he does is almost like he does it on automatic.
Harry doesn't know but some teachers have sought out Professor McGonagall to be concerned about Harry as his class performance even practical magic which he always exalted in was dreadful if not worse which would give him a troll.
Professor McGonagall had a long conversation with Professor Sprout about Harry being chosen on the 1st of November and while Professor Sprout wasn't convinced seeing Harry being troubled, depressed and his dreadful class performance even with Neville being his partner who always made his partner have at least an EE made her believe Professor McGonagall that Harry didn't try to enter and didn't even want to enter. Even she is surprised when she approaches Professor McGonagall to tell her to believe her, keep their friendship alive and his class performance while also questioning why Miss Granger didn't even give him a glance which she did at least occasionally before not too much but just in a friendly gesture and just as much as a friend does.
Harry knows Katie scolded the Quidditch team although even before she scolded them the Weasley twins were already talking with him and such although Katie probably didn't know. Angelina and Alicia apologized to Harry. He just couldn't refuse them as they really meant it and asked why they did it. Angelina and Alicia didn't really know why. They both know Harry is not a glory hound or attention seeking as what was said about him. He didn't even seek glory in Quidditch while he had every right to be (although they all deserved the glory and every one of the Quidditch Team got the glory they deserved after they won a game). While they didn't say it they see Harry as a younger brother ever since he joined the Quidditch Team especially as they both have no siblings. They did not sit as far as possible anymore until they apologized two days ago, on the 2nd of November. They didn't sit with him but they didn't stay away as far as possible.
Luna was her normal self whenever she saw him or she talked to him. The only difference is that Harry doesn't feel to give the night kisses anymore even when Ginny asks him to follow her. He just says he didn't feel like it and that he would go to bed. Ginny was very mad at Hermione, but Hermione wasn't alone for Ginny to yell at her and she didn't want anyone to find out was they did no matter how much she wanted to do it again even if it was more for Harry's sake as he did seems to like it.
The only time Hermione is even remotely alone would be in the library, but Ginny knows that she will probably end up screaming and even if Hermione doesn't scream she will be banned just like Ginny would even if it is temporally Hermione will be depressed with would hurt Harry even more. Ginny knows Harry would never want to remove her happy place although he doesn't know her happiest place is with him and the second by a long shot is the library of Hogwarts.
Harry knows why Ginny wanted him to follow her every night, but he just couldn't do it. Hermione wasn't there and without her certainly, at this time it feels wrong almost like he is cheating on Hermione even though they don't have a romantic relationship. Harry also on the 2nd of November started to see most of the Hogwarts students wear a badge that reads Support Cedric Diggory - The Real Hogwarts Champion in big glowing red letters. However, anything he was close and the teachers wouldn't see it the badge changes into Potter Stinks in glowing green letters before it falls to the bottom of the badge. The badge will activate and change when they press the badge.
Harry doesn't know who is behind the badge but he is almost sure it is a Slytherin. The way Malfoy showed him the badge first and proudly so he wouldn't be surprised if he did. Although Malfoy doesn't follow Ancient Runes Harry thinks they work with Runes meaning while it may be Malfoy's idea he didn't make it.
Harry does notice that many of the Slytherins wear them save a few like Daphne Greengrass, her sister and her best friend. Almost everyone from Hufflepuff wears the badges even everyone from his year. From Ravenclaw a little over half the whole student body wears it. In Gryffindor, Ron wears one as do a couple of upper years for example McLaggen and his 'friends'.
Harry is only a little bit happy that he hasn't seen Hermione wear one and she even once grabbed Ron's badge and threw it to the wall making it break. Not that it matters as before the next class he already had a new one. He also saw that Ron tried to give one to Hermione and make her wear it but she refused when she cast Incendio on the badge made Ron drop it. She even stamped on it but even after that her behaviour didn't change and she still hangs around Ron all the time.
4th November 1994, Director of the DMLE office, Ministry of Magic, London
Amelia isn't happy. Every thought she had that could help Harry get out of this mess was disproven by the experts she talked about the last few times. She even asked the Head of the Department of Mysteries, Croaker. Normally he would come when requested not even if the minister did. He did come however when Amelia asked him to come to her office. While he didn't like being requested or demanded to come he would come to Amelia if she needed him.
She asked once why he never came when the Minister needed him and he simply said "The Minister isn't my boss as my department works outside of his influence. As I also don't like this minister, although, I didn't like the previous ones either."
Croaker told her in confidence" There hasn't been a minister I generally liked for decades. I only answer to the Heir of the one who created the department many centuries ago. Some even say that the department precedes the Ministry of Magic. I don't know who created it but as soon as the Heir appear the department will be notified although it doesn't explain how. It never happened before some say the family died out but I don't think so. I think the family still lives but the Heir hasn't been able to take up the Heirship or Lordship for various reasons. I don't even know who the department created as that knowledge has been lost to the ages. My idea is that the needed information or any other way to know is locked in one of the most secret rooms like the love room which we have never been able to open since its creation."
Amelia knew the confidence Croaker put in her and promised not to tell anyone without his permission and that is why Croaker likes her that much as he didn't even request it. In the end, even Croaker couldn't help getting Harry out of this mess.
Croaker was the most useful of all the experts and if he couldn't help Harry meant that nobody could get him out. It means that he needs to compete or lose his magic. As Harry is very powerful for his age it will hurt him terribly when magic is stripped from him it may even kill him.
As there is no other option to explore to get Harry out of this she decides it is time to go to Hogwarts. This is an important issue where the Ministry of Magic is involved she should be able to enter Hogwarts without the Headmaster's objections. She needs to decide which Aurors she needs to take with her as the security protocol after the Dark Mark appeared is still effective as the real culprit still hasn't been caught and there are no more leads so it will probably not happen. As long as nothing happens, involving security and danger, around New Year she doesn't need to have an Auror escort anymore or at least not more than her normal escort.
Mr. Ollivander identified the wand to be of foreign origin. The wand was identified by the wand maker. The owner however right before the attack approached British Aurors that his wand was missing and he and his countrymen were accounted for by those said Aurors during the assault and casting of the Dark Mark.
Thinking about her Auror escort also makes her happy that when she went to the Tonks house at night after the choosing she could get away with her Aurors knowing. She wonders if she should tell Alain Delacour about Harry probably being the wizard that saved his daughters from more pain and maybe even worse like being kidnapped by the Death Eaters. Amelia almost immediately decides to not do it as Harry has enough trouble with being in the tournament and multiple girls that like him as Susan told her. To throw a Veela into his life at this time is maybe a bit too much.
She knows from Alain that his oldest daughter, Fleur, who is at Hogwarts at this time and also a champion hopes to find her mate before too long. Fleur smelled her mate on Susan who most likely should be Harry especially because after Susan knew about the marriage contract she wouldn't let any boy or (young) man come within almost two arm's length if that was possible. She surely let no boy or man touch her without her consent and to Amelia's knowledge it also never happened.
She writes a short letter to Andi that she can't find a way to get Harry out and that if Dumbledore or Professor McGonagall doesn't have a way then Harry needs to compete.
4th November 1994, Hogwarts
Amelia is almost at the front gate of Hogwarts. She let Professor McGonagall know she would come. She has a four Auror escort. The Aurors are Senior Auror Shacklebolt is the leader of the escort. Auror Savage and Auror Williamson lastly the most promising Junior Auror in Amelia's opinion, Junior Auror Tonks. While normal she would bring a Junior Auror Tonks was the only expectation as she was at least as good as a normal Auror although Junior Auror Hestia was also just as good as a normal Auror.
Amelia also brought Tonks as Harry needs a friendly face even more than hers and Tonks may have a very special assignment inside Hogwarts. She just needs to convince Dumbledore which is no small feat although if she cannot do that if three of the four Heads of Houses accept Dumbledore may concede to her demand. Tonks job will be twofold. One is to protect Harry as some things are happening that will certainly involve Harry as it is all related to Voldemort. Second, Tonks can be the support Harry needs to show that there are still people who believe him until, of course, Sirius and Andi allow her to tell Susan she can talk to Harry about the marriage contract or Sirius and Andi tell him about it. In any way, Susan will already believe him but then she also can come out for it.
When the front gate comes into view she sees that Hagrid is waiting on her. It is clear it is him even from as far away as she was as Hagrid is big as he a half-giant after all. Just as she reaches the Front Gate Hagrid opens it for her and her Aurors. Hagrid happily greets Amelia as he is still thankful for giving him the retrial which he also mentions as he leads her and the Aurors towards Hogwarts. Hagrid that dinner is almost over so they may need to wait a bit before they can talk to Headmaster Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall as Hagrid knows this will go about Harry being entered.
After he said that he continued the remainder of their walk that Harry didn't enter, he got mad when Williamson was stupid enough to mention that he fully believed Harry did enter. The fury Hagrid had she wouldn't be surprised if Williamson was attacked and severely hurt. Kingsley came to Williamson's rescue and managed to calm Hagrid down but gave Williamson the look to shut up as he wouldn't help him again. Amelia knows that look, as she received them when she was still a Junior Auror to Auror until she became Squad Leader. After she became Squad leader she was the one to this day that started giving that look. Amelia could see in Tonks's hair she was also ready to hex Williamson if not worse. Kingsley's words to Hagrid also calmed Tonks down but Amelia could still see Tonks was mad.
When they enter Hogwarts Hagrid says "Madam Bones, Headmaster Dumbledore has put a chair fer yeh at the teacher's table fer the chance yeh would like some lunch before the lunch ends. We are halfway done with lunch so there should be enough time left fer a nice lunch. If your Aurors would like some food Headmaster Dumbledore would gladly have an elf assist 'em an' if needed add another table, more chairs or offer a classroom fer 'em ter use. He would prefer if yeh stay at the teacher's table as a guest."
Amelia nods and says "I will gladly take that invitation as a lunch at Hogwarts will be too good to resist. As they are my Auror escort they cannot leave my side and as they already had lunch they will stay by my side."
Hagrid just nods as he leads them to the Great Hall which isn't far. As soon as he enters the Great Hall everyone looks at him expect a few which includes Harry.
Harry doesn't really want to eat and only eats barely enough to make it through the day. Most of the time he doesn't touch his food until Ginny reminds him of the potions. He takes a few more bites of his food but not more and doesn't touch his food anymore. Ginny is almost sure that it isn't enough for the potions but no matter what she says Harry doesn't eat more.
She knows this is all Hermione's fault and decides that she will hex Hermione if that is what it takes to get her alone and she can drill some sense into her. Ginny thought after a day or two Hermione would come back to them, to Harry but she still hasn't. If she doesn't see soon what she has done the potion will start to use Harry's magic to work which will be bad for Harry and his magic. Ginny knows Harry's magic isn't what it was supposed to be it lost power, intent even meaning. She hopes she doesn't give Hermione too much time already and Harry's magic is already affected by the potions.
Ginny asked Luna but even Luna didn't know or see anything. Luna has admitted even she became afraid of the situation without her dreamy voice which scared Ginny even more. She managed to talk to Katie and she didn't know what to do to help besides force-feed Harry. Ginny thinks it is time to do so and if that doesn't work or is too difficult she will go to Professor McGonagall or Madam Pomfrey to ask what to do. Normally she would know what to do or can figure it out but somehow now she doesn't know what to do or what the best way is. Normally, Hermione could help her but she is the problem.
Otherwise what Harry would decide she would do but he barely talks anymore. He only says something when she directly asks him something and that is even only a few words. Ginny's heart almost breaks to see Harry so depressed and sad. She knows it is mostly because Hermione betrayed him, the one who he saw as his best friend, but hopes that Harry starts to miss the goodnight kisses and will join tonight when she proposes it again although he declined the last two nights when she came to get him. Hermione was in the common room talking to Ron and when Harry saw them he decided to not follow her and went to bed.
Ginny needed to tell Luna and Katie and both were very unhappy. Katie almost wanted to assault Hermione and force her to support Harry. Ginny wonders why Hermione keeps talking to Ron as the night of the choosing after Harry was chosen that she trusted Harry for not entering and also that he couldn't as since the Goblet of Fire was revealed he hasn't been alone. Hermione even stayed up longer until she felt that Harry had fallen asleep before she went to her bed for a good night's rest. She told me that herself.
Meanwhile, Amelia has reached the teacher's table and taken a seat between Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick. Normally Professor McGonagall sit on the right side immediately next to Dumbledore, but with the other schools as guest on his left side sits Igor Karkaroff and on his right Madam Maxime.
Amelia looks around and is surprised. She sees that Harry sits at the far end of his table. House Gryffindor, the House that should be your family inside Hogwarts, have turned on Harry. What she is most surprised about is that Hermione Granger, Harry's best friend, isn't sitting next to him but she is sitting with Ronald Weasley, Arthur's youngest son. She sees that Ron has a small smug smile and wonders why. She also wonders if this is the first time Hermione sits with Ron or if it already happened before. She is happy that at least Neville, Ginny and another girl seem to still support Harry, but she can't deny that Harry doesn't look healthy and that is not to mention he seems depressed, distraught and sad. It almost tore at her heart which means it should be bad for Susan and the worst for Hermione, Ginny and that other girl. Amelia wonders if this is Katie Bell that Tonks saw in the summer before Susan, Harry and Hermione's third year.
Amelia starts to eat lunch when she notices something that most students of Hogwarts wear. It takes a couple of minutes before she gets a clear view of one of the badges and sees that it reads Support Cedric Diggory - The Real Hogwarts Champion. She can understand the badges although she wonders why even most Ravenclaws and quite a couple of Gryffindors wear them. She expected Ravenclaw to stand above this as it doesn't involve their house or knowledge. She is appalled, as Hufflepuff, that inside Harry's house people also wear the badge. It is their own choice and it isn't really disgracing Harry she would still expect loyalty inside your house. She can't see her niece but hopes that Susan doesn't wear the badge as she can expect Harry wouldn't like that although he also sees Cedric as the real Hogwarts Champion.
Amelia has no doubt Harry said many times he didn't join. Wearing the badge means you don't trust Harry's words or claim. If Susan wears it Amelia would be disappointed in her and she needs to stop wearing the badge before she apologizes to Harry immediately. Amelia fully believes Susan is smart enough to not wear the badge especially as Harry is her future husband.
4th November 1994, Dumbledore's office, Hogwarts
As soon as lunch ends Dumbledore asks Amelia to join him in his office. The Aurors follow her as she follows Dumbledore. Professor McGonagall invited herself into the meeting. Dumbledore thought it was unnecessary but he also knows that she is very protective of her cubs in Gryffindor House. Amelia happily agreed to join them as she mentioned Harry is a member of Gryffindor House which she is the Head of House in Hogwarts.
When they enter Dumbledore's Office two Aurors stand outside the door while two Aurors follow her in. Normally Junior Auror would be stationed on the outside but she trusts Tonks and she also may need her. It doesn't hurt that Tonks is a very good fighter for a Junior Auror who hasn't seen real combat before like fighting Death Eaters or real evil wizards or witches. Tonks was ready to fight but when she was to protect Harry she and Kingsley didn't encounter Death Eaters. Tonk's natural ability makes her very valuable and that is not to mention Amelia has a weak spot for her although Amelia doesn't know why.
As soon as Amelia takes a seat in the chair she asks "Professor Dumbledore, do you know what happened and why Mister Potter was entered into the tournament while only of-age wizards and witches could enter? Did the age line work?"
Dumbledore says "I see Madam Bones you knew I drew an age line. I can say that it worked as it showed when those who were younger tried. The one who tried would grow a large beard and have grown grey hair. Madam Pomfrey had a few of those cases and I saw it happen to Mister Fred Weasley and Mister George Weasley."
Amelia nods and asks "Do you know who entered Mister Potter? As I highly doubt Mister Potter would enter."
Dumbledore shakes his head and says "Unfortunately, I do not. However, I asked Alastor to look into it and keep an eye on Harry besides his job as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and protection for the tournament."
Amelia asks "Are you sure that is wise, Professor Dumbledore? While Professor Moody was a Master Auror even he couldn't be everywhere at once. I think it is better if I assign an Auror to protect Mister Potter as the Auror can be there to protect him every time and doesn't need to divide his or her attention."
Professor McGonagall says "I think we should do that, Albus. With this, Alastor can focus his attention on the protection of the tournament while also on his duties as a teacher. Also, I think that the assigned Auror while Mister Potter is in classes could help Alastor with more protection as I don't think Mister Potter needs protection inside the classroom. Outside of the classroom is a different story and it will be better if there is protection for him. What better than an Auror to provide protection."
Dumbledore pretends to think before saying "I understand, but as Harry's Magical guardian, I am not sure it is the best course of action. Furthermore, I am almost certain Harry wouldn't like to be singled out with an Auror watching over him. He would probably also not like an Auror to protect him."
"Minerva, where do you suggest we house this Auror? Even if we can house the Auror in Gryffindor Tower wouldn't it be weird for the other students, especially from Gryffindor?"
Professor McGonagall looks at Amelia and asks "Director Bones, do you have a suggestion who you want to assign to Harry for his protection?"
Amelia says "Indeed I have someone. I fully believe the particular Auror will be the best qualified for the job."
Tonks tries to keep her emotions concealed as she is just a Junior Auror there will be no chance she will be it. She just can't forget Harry and the dreams she had every night for over a month after the Quidditch World Cup and she still gets them. It isn't every night anymore but still multiple times a week. Mostly she gets the dreams in more than half the night times in a week. She thinks it will be four or five nights on average in a week which in her opinion I still way too much but she just can't help herself. She still denies that she loves Harry and it is just that, after not seeing him for so long makes her think like that. Harry pleasures her is just that she has needs and for still being a virgin and not having any sexual partner either male or female the boy…. no man that she thinks about will just give her pleasure. She lies to herself and deep inside she knows but tries to keep that part hidden.
She wants to keep an eye on Harry as she wants to stay with Harry. She hopes seeing more of him or being around him will turn her thoughts back to before she had those weird and naughty dreams about Harry. If she is around Harry and sees him as her cousin it should help or at least she hopes so. She only thinks she only has these thoughts because of the difference between baby Harry and how he is now not to mention she missed him terribly all those years. She will not lie that she always thought about him during that time, but he was always there in the back of her mind.
Dumbledore knows he is going to need to tread carefully he may even need to give in to what those strong witches in front of him want to happen.
He decides to ask the question "Director Bones, who may this Auror, you praise so much to protect Young Harry, be?"
Amelia smiles and says "Of course Professor Dumbledore. I mean Junior Auror Tonks. While normally I would suggest a Senior Auror like Senior Auror Shacklebolt I think an Auror closer to Mr. Potter's age will meet less resistance and she is highly praised by the older Aurors and teachers."
"Even Professor Moody when he was Master Auror Moody spoke highly of her and mentored her before he accepted your offer to become Professor for Defence Against the Dark Arts. Also, while she cannot change her gender she can pretend to be Mr. Potter when Mr. Potter is in danger. She will be able to fool the attacker long enough for Mr. Potter to escape and maybe even get help. As someone is clearly out to get Mr. Potter her natural born ability will be of great help."
Tonks can barely control herself. The thing she wanted, the thing she never thought she would get…. well she got it. She hopes Professor Dumbledore will not deny her this. Sure it is her job but that doesn't mean she can't enjoy herself. She is overjoyed and hopes that this will help with her thoughts.
Dumbledore must admit that is it sound reasoning and he may even support this as this may look like he has Harry's best interest in mind. Also, having an Auror around Harry may scare his friends away that peer pressure isn't needed. He knows of the family ties between Miss Tonks and Harry but with Sirius still out of the country Harry shouldn't know and she will certainly not mention it.
Dumbledore decide to ask the question that will decide where this conversation will go "Director Bones, I understand your choice and I think it may be best until Alastor finish his investigation and we manage to capture the suspect. However, there is one problem as Junior Auror Tonks is female she cannot stay in the boy's dorm room of House Gryffindor firstly because she is female and it makes her or the other boys in Harry's dorm uncomfortable and secondly she is a Hufflepuff if my memory serves be right."
Professor McGonagall says "That Junior Auror Tonks in was a Hufflepuff should be no problem as there are many students from other Houses who know where the entrance of the other Houses is although they should not know the way to enter into the Common Room from other Houses. Although I know some do, but as no one comes up with complaints I don't know the extent of how many and who."
"I do agree with your reason for being uncomfortable so maybe it is an idea like I proposed, Albus, to give Mr. Potter a private room. There are more than enough empty private rooms with two bedrooms which will put Junior Auror Tonks close enough to Mr. Potter to come to his aide but will still give them both enough privacy which will not make them uncomfortable. Of course, Mr. Potter will be able to have friends over but they need to be in their own Common Room by curfew, I am sure Mr. Potter wouldn't want to put his friends in trouble as Junior Auror Tonks also want."
Professor Dumbledore is not against the idea anymore as with Junior Auror Tonks watching over Harry his friends may not come by at all. Even if they come, Harry's friends cannot derail his plans. He was afraid without someone watching over him some girls may get their claws into Harry while Ginevra is the only girl at the moment that is right for him as he hasn't found another girl who comes from a family which primarily gives birth to girls who are loyal, if not devoted to him, like Molly is. With Junior Auror Tonks no girl should be able to get their claws into Harry even if they manage Junior Auror Tonks will be able to break them up before something happens that will derail his plans.
Professor Dumbledore says "I will always provide for our students like Hogwarts does for its students. If Miss Tonks doesn't mind the room can be done by tomorrow afternoon. If you can come here at lunch, Nymphadora, Minerva will show you and Harry the room that you and Harry will share after lunch. I think a room with its own common room will provide enough protection and still have your privacy."
Tonks wants to get mad, but she doesn't want to get mad at Dumbledore as she respects him enough and if she cannot control herself Amelia may choose someone else.
Tonks agree with Dumbledore's idea and will pack as soon as she can even though she has a small pack ready for a (short) assignment this will surely be as she also hopes a long assignment. For her, the assignment can't be long enough.
Let's end here for now. I apologize for my long absence but I had trouble finishing this chapter along with some changes to my work which makes me dead tired after work. (Un)fortunately, I am sick at home so when it is not too bad I can write a bit.
Unfortunately, I did not make it where I wanted to so, in the next chapter, we see Tonks and Harry see the private room, a girl is set straight, one girl realizes her mistake and one girl gets scared by her choice and she is being watched for the last couple of days.
Please read and review.
