A Week Later…
Kol doesn't mind that his human has another vervain on her. The more protection she has against the vampires, the better she gets. However, he wondered why it took the doppelganger so long to give the supposedly "gift" to Caroline. Caroline just met Lexi and after ten minutes of talking, the blonde-haired vampire gave her the vervain ring. He is walking next to Caroline who is observing the silver heart-shape necklace with a soft smile on her face. "It's so pretty. Thank you." She dropped the necklace against her collarbones and shifted her gaze to Elena. "God, it'll go with, like, everything."
"Even if it doesn't, you will still keep it on." Kol muttered with a fondly eyes. Knowing Caroline is the type of person who will wear the ugliest bracelet that won't go with anything at all, she will wear it with pride.
"What's the occasion?" Caroline asked with curious.
Elena just half-shrugged with a polite smile. "No occasion. Just a little friend gift." They reached the outdoor table, sat down, and face to face while Kol plopped down next to his human.
"Lesbian friend necklace?" the blonde-haired beauty fake gasps. "Cause we're freaky like that?" she winks at Elena sarcastically while Kol shakes his head with amused. He is glad that Caroline finally got apologized from both Bonnie and Elena a while ago. And now they are back on each other's good graces.
Elena chuckled softly. "Your friendship is important to me." She and Caroline start unpacking their homemade lunches out.
"Why are you being so mushy?" the blonde-haired beauty asked with confusion while unwrapped the plastic from the sandwich.
The doppelganger leaned forward as she folded her arms against the table. "Because I felt bad for pranking you with Bonnie. And I just… don't wanna lose your friendship."
Kol scoffed. "Are you lots serious right now? You, the doppelganger who is dating a vampire. Bennett, the witch. And none of you are going to tell her the truth?" he grumbled, he really wants his human to be aware of the truth of the supernatural. His dark eyes went to his human who stare at Elena quietly.
"I feel like there's more than that." Caroline speak up which Kol was impressed with her instinct while Elena was taken aback.
The brunette cleared her throat. "I-I don't know what you mean by that?"
"You're a terrible liar, darling." Kol blunted as Caroline rolls her eyes. "You are a terrible liar." She pointed it out, unknowingly that she repeated the bad boy Original's words much to his humorous.
Elena lined her lips firmly while she slowly unwrapping the bags from her homemade lunch. "…nope. Nothing. Just—want to make sure we're good." She smiles then starts eating her lunch.
Caroline and Kol stared at her unconvinced.

Next Day
The bad boy Original glares at Matt with distrust and slightly protective. Caroline asked the Quarterback for help on the banners for the dance. And now, she and Matt are painting a banner together on the table outside in the schoolyard.
"I've never seen you such a mess." Matt chuckled with amused when his blue eyes look at her hands covered with black, blue, and yellow paints.
"I've seen her mess before, and she was positively lovely." Kol smirked at Matt with protective in his dark eyes. He is currently leaning against the tree near the table where he could easily see his human and boring bloke.
Caroline scoffed as she smiles at Matt. "Don't talk smack." She playfully swipes her paintbrush on matt's arm, leaving black streak on it.
"I mean—" Matt threateningly holds his covered blue-paintbrush out at Caroline who backed away with mischievous twinkles in her blue-green eyes that Kol couldn't help but stares. "—I just thought that you told everyone else what to do."
Kol frowned, offended for Caroline's behalf. "True that she does that, but she also likes to do things in her own way." He grumbled.
Caroline and Matt return to painting the banner. "Well, I do that, too, but if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself." Kol nod with a smug smirked that he knew Caroline better than Matt. "I never thought you would agree to help me. Thank you."
"Of course. I had nothing better to do." Matt smiles and glanced up at her. "Who knew you could be fun?" they exchanged the smiles and continue to paint.
Kol doesn't like this. He doesn't want this boring human bloke to start interested in his human. He doesn't care if they are friends, but he darkly thought this Matt better not start to have feelings for his human. After all, Caroline Forbes belongs to him.
"So, what are you wearing to this dumb dance, anyway?" Caroline asked with curious while trace the words with her paintbrush carefully.
Matt hummed. "Uh… I'm not goin'." Caroline glanced at him with confused.
"Why not?"
The Quarterback leaned up and turned his eyes on Caroline's genuinely curious face. "I gotta work, bussin' tables at the Grill."
"Oh? Since when are you a busboy?" the blonde-haired beauty return to the banner.
Matt stared at her then clear his throat. "It's a job. You know, some of us have to work, Caroline." Kol watches them quietly. "With our mom in and out, things are tight, so…"
"I didn't mean it like that." Caroline jerked her head up with worried gaze. "I'm so sorry!" she said with guilty face.
The Quarterback stared at her for a moment then nodded his head. "It's fine. Sorry. I just—things have been tough. Mom's out and with some guy. And my sister… is somewhere that I don't even know." He scoffed softly.
Caroline's eyes soften. "…things will get better in the end." She said with optimism. "Don't give up and go for it no matter what."
"Thank you." Matt thanked her with a half-smile.
Kol made a face. He doesn't like seeing this. He knew his human is very kind-hearted but he doesn't any human blokes start getting the wrong ideas about her. "Why must you be so lovely, darling." He exaggeratedly groaned as he tipped his head back.
He seriously doesn't want any competition for Caroline's affection.

Later…
Kol examined the students of Mystic Falls are dressed in their best fifties' getup and dancing to the fifties songs in the fifties dance. He shakes his head with amused and baffled. He never seen such fashion from the fifties before.
Honestly?
Not his taste and not only that, it took his human to get ready in her fifties-style for two hours. Although, he thought she looks wonderful. He scanned around until landed on Caroline who is dancing with Bonnie on the dance floor. They were smiling and laughing together which brings him smiles softly. He likes seeing his human having fun.
Kol glanced around once again then his face scowled when he saw a soon-to-be-dead vampire walking next to Elena who is arms linked with Stefan on the other side. The Original noted that they were observed their surrounding with cautions, as if they are looking for any sign of danger. He narrowed his eyes at this with worried and warily. He hoped that there won't be since Caroline is in present at this decade dance.
The Original decided to stay close to his human.
After a moment, Caroline and Bonnie has their arms link as they approach to Elena who is standing by the punch bowl at the table, nervously fidgeting with her earring.
"Having fun?" Elena asked before she dropped her hand, smiling.
Caroline hummed. "No, but this took about two hours, so I'm at least staying half of that." She made a gesture of her appearance.
"You still look lovely, sweetheart." Kol commented as he carefully examined her outfit.
The girls exchanged their laugh until Bonnie looks off in the distance with realized. "What's Damon doing here?" she asked with suspicious.
Kol growled with exasperatedly while Caroline glanced over and frowned.
Elena cleared her throat. "He wanted to come." Bonnie and Caroline glanced at each other. "I promise. He'll behave." The brunette assured them.
Kol scoffed loudly. "Behave? Did you forget that he abused her?" he glared at Elena.
"So, what is this, like, a threesome now, you and the Salvatore brothers?" Caroline snapped with slight aggression as she placed a cold smile on her face. She is not happy to see Damon, her abuser in the dance. Kol raise his eyebrow at her cold attitude but he understands why she is acting like this.
The brunette sighed as she is expected this reaction from her friends. "No, but if I'm gonna be with Stefan, then I have to learn to tolerate Damon. It's not like I can kill him."
"There's a thought." Bonnie muttered while her gazes at Damon with warily.
Caroline nod her head sagely. "I'll help."
Kol smirked widely. "That would be a sight to see, love." He purrs, liking that fact that his human is interested harming the soon-to-be-dead vampire.
Bonnie and Caroline clinked their glasses of punch together and drinks while Elena looks down as she surpassed her smiles at her friends' comments.
After a while, the music switched to slow, and Elena left few minutes ago. Caroline and Bonnie are still animatedly chatting. Kol glared at Damon who sauntered up toward their direction. "Hi, Bonnie." Caroline stared at him coldly while Bonnie frowned. "Wanna dance?"
"I'm out of here." Bonnie scoffed with disgusted as she turned around, but Damon blocked her with his body.
Damon smirks at her charmingly. "Please give me another chance." The petite witch ignores him, moved around and walk away. Kol approved of Bonnie's action.
"Remember your promise, Damon." Caroline step forward with serious glint in her blue-green eyes as she stares at his bright blue eyes. "Back off and leave her alone." She whispered harshly at him then whirled around, followed her best friend through the gym.
Kol hisses at the soon-to-be-dead vampire. "I don't know what you are planning, areshole. But know that you are on borrow time." He quickly follows his human.

Later…
Caroline and Bonnie entered as they are still in their fifties garb. Kol scanned around for any danger, however, so far none so he relaxes a little. The blonde-haired beauty noticed her best friend is staring earnestly up at the bar. Her blue-green eyes follow her direction and surprise to see a graduate student from their school not too long ago.
"Let's sit up there." Bonnie suggested while Caroline and Kol caught the little witch's plan easily.
Caroline crossed her arms with amused. "Be a little more obvious, Bonnie." She teased her friend. Kol shakes his head with a smirked. He likes seeing his human teases her friends. It was entertaining to him.
"Don't rain on my hot-guy parade." The petite witch lightly scolded her friend.
The blonde-haired beauty smiles with slightly disbelieved and glanced at the bartender. "It's just a drizzle." She said playfully. "Ben McKittrick? Really?" she won't deny that he is a handsome young man but she thinks Bonnie can do better.
"He's hot." Bonnie reason as she glanced at Caroline.
Kol snorted when he heard his human's replied but agreed in the end. "He's a washed-up jock who pours drinks for a living. You could do way better." The transparent ghost noticed Matt who has heard her comment, glanced down blankly then walk past Caroline who didn't pay attention as she was focus on Bonnie and the bartender.
"Oh darling…" Kol knew his human didn't mean to hurt her friend with her words when she is only trying to tell Bonnie who could find someone better for her. "At least he didn't confront you." He muttered.
After a while, the girls sat at the table while eating their dinner across from each other while Kol is sitting between them with his chin on his palm as his elbow resting on the table with boredom.
Caroline swallowed her salad when she noticed Bonnie kept glances at Ben behind the bar. "You know… you've been eye stalking the bartender for a while." She pointed it out, amused.
Kol glanced at the witch. "I agreed, sweetheart. Maybe be a bit more subtle?"
Bonnie cleared her throat and shifted her brown eyes back to her plate with flushed cheeks. "What about you?" Caroline raise her eyebrow with questioning. "Anyone catch your eyes?" Bonnie lifted her eyes with curious.
"Nope." Caroline answered simply.
"And keep it that way until you notice me." Kol commented calmly, he will find a way to make her acknowledge of his exist. Then his dark eyes went to Bonnie with thoughtful. He wondered is she is strong enough to sense him as he hope he practice her magic everyday. Kol reached his other hand to Bonnie, lightly touch her shoulder but she didn't feel anything.
Kol furrowed his eyebrows with confusion and dropped his hands. He turned to his human and feather-like touches her cheek which Caroline shivers from the cold. "Geez." The blonde-haired beauty mumbled and rubbed her cheeks to attempt warming up. Kol's blinked in surprise and intrigue. "Interesting… it seems that you the one only one who can feel my touch, darling." He doesn't know if that's a good thing or not.
"Seriously?" Bonnie was surprised to hear Caroline's answer. "No one? Not even—" her gaze shifted over Caroline's shoulders which Kol's noticed. His gaze followed and made a face. He saw Matt who is cleaning the table. "Oh bloody hell no."
Caroline cock her eyebrow, turned her head and spotted Matt. She turned back to Bonnie with surprised. "Whoa, where did that come from?"
"I saw you and Matt painting the banner earlier today at the schoolyard. You both look pretty chummy." The petite witch playfully said.
Kol shakes his head, denied. "No. They do not look chummy at all."
Caroline snorted but quickly covered her mouth as red flushes; feeling embarrassed however Kol stares at her fondly. "I'm sorry. I don't know why you think that but there is nothing chummy between Matt and I. I needed someone to help with banners and I asked around. No one has free time except Matt. He was nice enough to helped me." She explained.
"Sure." Bonnie smirks, teasing. "I think he'll be good for you though."
"No. Don't even think of matchmaking my human with that boring bloke!" Kol snapped with frustration as he could easily see through Bonnie's plan.
Caroline shakes her head and playing with her fork against the salad. "He seems nice but not exactly my type." Before Bonnie open her mouth, Caroline continue. "But you seem to have a type, a bartender." The blonde-haired beauty smirks at the tiny witch while Kol is relief the subject changed. "Are you going to eye-stalking Ben for the rest of the night until the hour hand strike at twelve?" she added with slight sarcastically.
Bonnie turned her attention to the bartender with thoughtful then pulled her shoulders back. "You're right." She stood up from the chair and boldly walks over to the bar.
Caroline and Kol watches the petite witch with impressed. "Well, once again… you have push someone to put court in action. If I didn't know any better, darling. I say you have talent for matchmaking or something." He commented, while watching.
The blonde-haired beauty shakes her head but she has proud smile on her face when she noticed Ben leans closer toward Bonnie with a charmingly smile while Bonnie smiles back with flirtatiously. "Huh… I guess this means I'm only one single left." She mumbled.
"Don't worry, love. One day, your status will change." Kol wiggle his eyebrows with flirtatiously smirks at his human.
Matt walks around and Caroline noticed him. "Hey, Matt." She greeted him friendly.
"Hey." He respond blankly.
Caroline blinked at him in surprised. "I-is everything okay?" she was slightly startled by his indifferently attitude toward her.
The Quarterback shrug his shoulders. "I just have a table to clean. You know, that's the kind of thing that washed-up jocks do to make a living." He walks away.
Kol frowned and turned his gaze to Caroline who realized with wide eyes. "Ah…damn it." She whispered, didn't know that he had heard her comment. She didn't mean to hurt her friend with her words. Again.
"You'll apologize to him later, darling. Knowing you, you and that boring bloke will be back to friends again." The Original doesn't want their friendship to grow more and preferred they stick as friends. Strictly.

After Caroline finished her meal, paid for it and went to Matt who is cleaning off a table. "Matt…" Kol scowled softly at the jock who ignores his human. "Don't be disrespectful to my human."
"…I'm sorry, but I wasn't even talking about you." Caroline continued with genuinely face.
The Quarterback walks off to clean another table and Caroline sighed but followed him. "I said things without thinking and it's part of who I am. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything like that."
Kol watches his human quietly as she is working her apologizing to Matt. The jock paused and turned his head to her with solemn face. "Ben could easily be me, Caroline. We're just alike."
Caroline's eyes soften. "But you are different from him." She assured Matt gently who frowned at her. "I know that we haven't hung out for a long time. And that you are going through something that I can't even imagine what you are going through. Your mom, Vicki, and… Elena…" the busboy swallowed dryly but continue listening to her. "Life is not easy… it gets hard every day, feeling like you are stuck with reminders every day that you wish if only it could go away and be back to normal where everything was almost normal and nice." Kol's gaze shifted to his human's neck where she covered with concealer. "It's hard. You know, letting go. And moving forward with the best ability with whatever you have in your hands."
"…what are you trying to say?" Matt asked, confused.
Caroline cleared her throat. "What I'm trying to say is that, you are stronger than anyone thinks. You continue find your way to live your life, no matter how hard it is, you push forward and go for it. You didn't give up and you fight. You continue fighting and that's amazing. Ben just resigned himself to work as bartender but you—you continue to fight through school, job, and sport. That's seriously like—amazing skill." She shyly smiles at him. "I'm sorry for hurting your feelings. It was not my intention. I only said it about Ben because I care about Bonnie. I thought she could do better with someone who cares and loves her."
Matt stared at her in slightly awed and gratitude. "…thank you." He whispered, gently. Caroline just smiles at him.
"I'm gonna go. Good night, Matt." The Quarterback nod his head and watches her leave.

"Once again, you surprise me, darling." Kol muttered as he is walking next to Caroline who is sauntered down the sidewalk that she left the Mystic Grills few minutes ago. He doesn't like how empty outdoor in the night where his human is all alone.
Keeping his eyes out for any potential danger that could harm his human. Caroline rubs her arms for warmth while ambled the sidewalk. Her blue-green eyes lifted upward to watch the moon in the night sky. Kol shifted his eyes back to Caroline and watch how the moonlight shines on her beauty. His undead heart somehow skips a beat when he noticed how stunningly she looked, especially her blue-green eyes are twinkles beautifully.
It's quiet but comfortable atmosphere for a human girl and a transparent ghost, walking side by side.
