Salvatore Boarding House
"Well, I did not see that coming." Kol whistled as he stared at Damon, the Salva-whore, who was kissing a woman, pressing her against the walls of the boarding house. And while Kol seemed amused by the scene, Matt and Caroline were dumbfounded by what was happening in front of them. The motive soon revealed by their scream of shock.
"Mom?!"
"Damon?!"
Kol shakes his head, disgust clear on his face. "That bastard's taste just sinks lower and lower when it comes to women." He commented, his glare going straight at his human. "But hey, as long as he is not interested in you. That's good enough for me."
He watched Kelly leaving and Matt informing he would be taking his mother home. Elena offered to drive Caroline home, which the blonde appreciated.
Soon, Caroline is sitting in the passenger seat while Kol is at the back, waiting for Elena who was busy talking to Stefan by the front door. Kol reached forward and tapped his human's cheek who turned her head and smiled softly at the gesture.
"Tonight seems to be rather boring." The blonde-haired beauty muttered.
"Ya think?" Kol sarcastic said. "Darling, I will take you out and show you a real good time. That's a promise." He just now realized there are many promises he had made for Caroline, and he doesn't mind it one bit. Because Caroline Forbes is one amazing and interesting girl, and it will be his pleasure to be sure that smile never leaves her face.
A minute or two later, Elena climbed in the drive seat and Caroline waved her hand at her friend's boyfriend.
"Bye, Stefan."
"I'm not happy with you mate, but at least I don't feel like murdering you, so you're good." Kol said as he leaned back against the seat in a neutral mood.
Stefan said his farewell and soon, the car drove away from the boarding house. Elena biting her lips with contemplativeness as Caroline stared at the scene through the windows.
"…should we talk?"
"Pardon?" The blonde-haired beauty shifted her gaze to the brunette girl with confusion while Kol watched them quietly.
Elena lightly drummed her fingers against the wheel. "About how you are the back up?" she reminded Caroline with a quick glance.
"I don't wanna talk about it." The blonde sighed as she tipped her head back while her eyes stared at the passing landscape. "I just wanna go home, sleep on my bed and be ready for tomorrow since I'm visiting my dad."
"It's that time already?" Kol muttered, he recalled that Caroline always visits her dad once a month. This would be like the third time for him.
The brunette was hesitant, but respected her decision.
"Okay." She whispered softly, the trio going quickly as the car accelerated in the streets.

Forbes Residence
Morning…
Caroline pushed the curtain away while staring at the storm of never-ending rain. "It's been raining since last night…" she muttered, knowing she needed to leave before the storm got worse. Kol just admired the weather as he sincerely loves the storm.
However, he wasn't sure he wanted his human to drive out in the storm like this.
The blonde-haired beauty dropped the curtain, grabbed her purse and left her bedroom to descend the stairs. The Original hot on her tail.
"I don't know if it's a good idea to leave at this time, darling." He mumbled.
After a moment, Caroline was in the driver seat of her car while Kol was in the passenger.
The blonde-haired beauty pushed her key in and paused. "Kol?" she asked, shyly and wondering.
"I'm here darling…" Kol gently brushed her cheek which she shivered at but beamed over.
Once Caroline drive a little more down the road she cleared her throat, grabbing the Original attention.
"Alright. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know you." She said, excited while Kol leaned back against the chair with an amused smirk.
"As usual. One tap for yes and no tap for no." She hummed thoughtfully as she wondered what to ask the ghost.
It took her a few minutes until she got an idea.
"Did you have siblings?"
"Unfortunately." tap on her hand.
"Brothers?"
Tap.
"Annoyingly older brothers." he mused.
"Sisters?"
Tap.
"One young bratty sister."
"Wow, must have been a big family."
Kol snorted. "You have no idea, darling."
He could still recall the drama, chaos and mayhem his family caused over the centuries that left so many dead bodies behind. He won't deny that he also left his own share of bodies behind him as well.
"As you know, I'm the only child…kind of?" Caroline frowned as she turned the street. "I mean, my dad's boyfriend's daughter's birthday is today, and I wouldn't be surprised if my dad and his boyfriend might be married someday. So that means that little brat might be my little step-sister. Who knows." She shrugged, unsure as to how to feel about himself.
Caroline wants her dad to be happy, but she can't lie that she feels jealous and hurt when that little girl gets to spend every hour of every day of her time with her father.
The blonde-haired beauty just shakes her head and opens her mouth to say a little more when her phone rang. She grabbed it from her jacket to respond to the call while her other hand remained on the wheel.
"Oh! It's Lexi." She answered with a speaker and settled the phone on the cupholder. "Hey Lexi!"
"Hello." Kol greeted, just because.
"Linnie! Hey, I just want to know how my girl is doing?" Lexi's cheerful voice greeted the couple.
Caroline's smiles widely at that. "I'm doing good… how about you? Last I heard you were in Canada visiting Bree's family with Lee? How did that go?"
Lexi groaned exaggeratedly while another familiar voice —Lee— huffed loudly. Caroline and Kol glanced at the phone amused and confused. "Not good?"
"Well, sweetcheeks. As much as we adored Bree… her family is a nightmare." Lee answered this time with a slightly annoyed voice.
"What happened?" Caroline asked, curious, while Kol also wanted to know. He needs his entertainment to accompany his daily gorgeous and sexy view of his human.
Lexi cleared her throat. "Bree's family… is not particularly fond of me and Lee—" Lee grumbled, how no one likes him is a mystery. "—shut up Lee. Anyways, her mother just stared at me when I informed her of her daughter's death. Then she just smiles at us rather creepily and invited me and Lee inside to join their family dinner."
"It was so fucking awkward and creepy. All the family members are there and...fuck." Lee groaned, disgusted and creeped by the memories.
Lexi made a noise from the back of her throat. "I agreed. Bree's father sat at the head of the table—I guess shows that he's the man of the house or something. Then there are the triples. Three annoyingly—"
Lee interjected. "—more like scary as fuck—"
Caroline turned the next corner of the street and down the road to leave the town while paying attention to her friends' tale while Kol raised his eyebrow with interest.
Lexi speaks up. "—sons and a daughter. They were sitting on one side and the mother sat at the end of the table across Bree's father. So, Lee and I sat on the other side. The triples seem to like staring at us, making us feel very uncomfortable. It was so quiet. No talking. Just eating."
"And then one of those fucking crazy brats start asking us how their older sister died. They sounded so…gleeful." Lee said, disturbed.
Caroline's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, seriously?"
"What?" the Original didn't expect that.
Although, he would be gleeful too if he learned how to kill his brother.
"Oh yeah. And before we could even tell them, they started to come up with these disturbing gruesome details about how Bree died." Lexi explained, disgusted and angry. "I don't know why they act like that or why the parents didn't scold them or anything! They just sat there and ate!"
"That's… really awful."
Lee and Lexi agreed while Kol just shake his head. "And it gets…extremely… fucked up." Lee blunted out.
"What?" Caroline asked intrigued.
After a minute, Lexi answered dryly. "One of the brats dropped a fork, everyone froze and the father snapped. He picked up a squirt bottle out of nowhere—I don't know how— and started to throw water at the brat while the mother scolded the child and sent it away to the corner without even finishing the food." Caroline and Kol stared at the phone blankly at that. Were they treating their children like dogs? Kol mused the thought.
Lee spoke up. "And—get this, they weren't happy that their sister was punished. So, the two brothers threw tantrums by throwing food everywhere. The father kept squinting his damn water bottles at the boys while the mother just fucking sat there and started telling us about Bree's childhood stories."
"—and also, while the mother was busy reminiscing about Bree's life. The father grabbed a fucking chair and threw at his wife's face!"
"What the hell?!" Caroline blurted in disbelief while Kol snorted.
"I know right?! And the mother just slowly gets back up, all calm and politely told her husband, and I quote, 'You hit like a bitch.' And we just… couldn't…" Lexi trailed off incredulously.
Lee speaks next. "And she turned to us, all bloody and smiling, asking us if we wanted to stay the night. I said, 'hell no' while Lexi made up some shitty excuse that we have to leave."
"And we left the fuck out of there as fast as we could. No wonder Bree never really likes to talk about her family. Because holy shit, they are fucking crazy!" Lexi finished explaining about their journey.
Caroline shakes her head with amazement. "Wow… that's… really some adventure you get there."
Lexi and Lee snorted similarly while Kol chortled. "You can say that again, sweetheart."
"Hey… I can hear a storm through the phone. Are you outside?" Lexi asked, curious.
The blonde-haired beauty just keeps driving through the woods. "Ah, yeah. I'm in the car, driving since I'm going to visit my dad and his boyfriend. My dad's boyfriend's daughter's birthday is today." She answered, frowning while turning the wheels. "The storm washed out Route five. Now, I'm taking a detour on some random backwoods path to hell."
Kol examined the ongoing rain with a frown. He didn't notice that his human changed the path as he was busy listening to Lexi and Lee's interesting adventures once again.
"That sounds a little dangerous. Be careful." Lexi warned worried while Lee agreed and even voiced that she needed to be safe driving under the storm.
"I'll be fine." Caroline assured her friends. "I just need to figure out which path to turn around and go back the same way I came."
"Lin—ok—bre—can't hear—" Caroline made a face.
"It seems the service is breaking up from here. I'll call you guys back. Okay?" She repeated a couple more times until her friends confirmed they got her message. They hung up and Caroline drive around while furrowing her eyebrows, trying to figure the road out.
"I think you're in the wrong area." Kol commented while attempting to figure out the area through the hundreds of millions droplets of water.
The blonde-haired beauty shifted her car forward but got up and halted. She tried to move her car, but it was stuck. So, she opened the door, pecked at the back and saw that the tire got stuck in the mud. She pushed the gas, but it was useless. "God… come on…" but nothing changed.
Caroline shut the door and picked up her phone to call but there was no service, which she groaned loudly at.
"Seriously?" she tipped her head back with irked eyebrows, then tilted her head to the empty passenger seat
"Are you here, Kol?" a cold touch on her cheek brings her some relief, knowing that she is not alone.
"I'm here, darling." Kol muttered.
"Well, let's hope that storm calms down so we can leave this wood." Caroline said, she turned half-way and smiled randomly at the seat where Kol is sitting. "We can continue getting to know each other."
Kol's eyes soften and poke her forehead. "We can, love."
Caroline allows her head to rest on the chair while humming something. "Were you born in the summer?"
No tap.
"Nope. In the winter."
"Spring? Fall? Winter?" tap. "Winter… okay, so is it November? December? January? Nothing? You don't remember which month you were born?" Caroline asked, curious and sad. It must be awful not to know which month and day when you were born.
"It's fine. It doesn't bother me, sweetheart." Kol brushed his finger against her cheek. "I'm born on October tenth." She offered which Kol immediately filed on the back of his head. It's very important to him to know when his human was born.
The blonde-haired beauty just smiled. "Do you play sports?" tap. "Oh? Hmm, basketball? Football? Hockey? Baseball?" tap. "Really? That's cool."
"I'm not in a team. But I do enjoy playing baseball." Kol muttered as he wondered if he could use the baseball bat as a way to beat the shit out of the Salva-whore.
Caroline bit her lips, thinking more. "I don't play any sports. But I do cheerleading… and I'm the captain of the cheerleader squad."
"Oh, I know. And I positively enjoy watching you cheerleading in that beautiful uniform." Kol wiggled his eyebrows at her with a lewd smirk.
And so, Caroline continued asking him as many questions as she can to understand about Kol, the ghost who was still hanging around her and while Kol knew a lot about his human, there are a few things he didn't really pick out. Before they both knew, it had been hours until and the woods were soon bestowed by the darkness.
Caroline blinked as she turned her head to see the time on her phone, which surprised her. "Oh wow, I didn't realize it's that late already." Kol was surprised too, he didn't expect that he would enjoy hearing his human's voice for many hours without a break, but he doesn't regret it. He loved it.
It's so simple and so, Caroline.
Oh how he wishes she could see and hear him, it would make it easier and way more fun.
The blonde-haired beauty grabbed her phone while getting out of the car. "I need to find a signal. I can't wait in the car all night and I don't wanna waste the gas." The storm has calmed down as the rain is now only drizzling. Kol instantly left the car and walked around to his human's side when she climbed out and opened her umbrella.
Caroline held up her phone while walking around in the woods in hope of retrieving a signal. Kol doesn't like it when his human is walking further away from her car and closer to the waterfall along with the river at the bottom of the hill.
The Original frowned deeply. "Darling… please be careful." He mumbled with fear for his human. His fragile, and mortal, human.
After a moment, the drizzles stopped and Caroline stopped walking for a second. She dropped her umbrella, closing it while holding up her phone. She carefully walks over the edge while Kol eyed her warily. He doesn't like this at all.
Then her cell phone beeps loudly as she finally gets a signal. "Yes!" Caroline cheered in relief.
However, in a moment of stupor, she slipped and almost immediately fell down on the muddy grass hill down the bank of the river. Kol nearly flipped his shit out when he saw her falling but his undead heart sank with relief when he saw she had stopped near the river. "Fuck, darling…" he's a fucking ghost with a practically dead heart and still, Caroline has nearly given him a heart attack.
Kol leaned over and watched his human pushing herself up, slowly pulling up to the hill with determination.
"That's it, love… you can do it. Good girl." Kol muttered while watching Caroline with worry as he wanted her to hurry up and be far away from the hill, where she could be safe.
The blonde-haired beauty continues grabbing vines and roots as she is half-way up the hill. She extended her hand to grab another root but ended up grabbing an arm. Her eyes widened in horror. "Ahh!" she screams in horror as she slips down while attempting to release the arm. The body sliding away from the hidden dirt, Caroline staring at the decomposing body that wore a skimpy vampire costume.
"O-Oh my God!"
Kol cursed under his breath. He recognized this dead body.
It was of that newborn baby vampire from that night on Halloween.
It seems his human has found a dead vampire body.

Mystic Falls
Donovan Residence
Later…
Kol watches his human pouring out coffee in mugs quietly while Kelly Donovan is sobbing on the couch. Sheriff Forbes stared at the ground solemnly as she finished delivering the terrible news about the discovery of the dead body of Vicki Donovan.
Jeremy Gilbert and Tyler Lockwood sitting on chairs at the table in silence ever since they learned the news as well.
Caroline sent sympathetic small smiles at them as she sauntered to the kitchen, grabbing a new mug and poured coffee on it. She turned around and walked down the hallway, seeing Matt sitting on his older sister's bed with a blank face.
"I made you some coffee." Caroline handed the mug to Matt gently.
Matt takes it, not exactly unkindly, with a nod.
"Are you… is there anything I can do?" the blonde-haired beauty asked softly with concern. Kol just watches the exchange quietly.
The quarterback just shakes his head. "I-I just…" he paused, and Caroline just nodded her head.
Caroline turned around to leave the room but paused when she heard the doorbell. Soon, Elena Gilbert arrived in the hallway with worry clear on her face. The brunette just walks down, ignoring the blonde-haired beauty, to Vicki's bedroom.
Matt stared at her as tears slowly pulled over his eyes and set the mug over the nightstand. Elena instantly ran to the boy and hugged him.
"Matt…" he sobbed on her shoulder while hugging her tightly against his body.
Caroline and Kol stared at them, the blonde-haired beauty just shook her head at the scene.
"Matt's never going to let her go." She whispered, feeling pity for the poor Quarterback who will never get Elena's heart again.
"That bloke is way too much in love with her." Kol snorted. He has seen many, many couples throughout his life and he could say, it's very, very rare to find someone who loves you as much as Matt loves Elena.
"It's a shame that the doppelganger rejected such pure love from the bloke."
The Original turned his gaze to his human who walked back to the kitchen, grabbed her jacket and put it on. He followed her when she left the house and to her car that was parked by the sidewalk. Caroline leaned over her car, her arms on the hood, and closed her eyes for a moment. "…I can't believe she's gone... poor Matt…" she whispered, sadly.
Kol brushes her cheek, not liking one bit seeing is human so sad, his touch making Caroline shiver.
"Kol… do you think you can see her around here?" she asked, hopeful that maybe Matt could have some kind of closure with his sister. The blonde grimaced when the Original didn't touch her as he has never seen any other ghosts, except that Bennett witch.
Caroline's shoulders slumped as her eyes dimmed. "I see…" she sighed heavily. Her eyes dozing off to the moon. Kol leaned his back against the car and gently touched her hand. He can't truly touch her hand, but he knew Caroline could feel it somehow.
"…thank you, Kol." The blonde-haired beauty was grateful for not to be alone. Despite the fact that she can't see nor hear him, at least she knew that he's still here by her side.
And that's good enough for her.

Miss Gibbons' Residence
Later…
Pearl shakes her head in disbelief. She has been gone for one day with her daughter to take care of some business and has returned to a house in pure chaos. Pearl already ordered some vampires to clean up the mess and take out the dead bodies.
Currently, the Asian vampire is sitting on the couch while rubbing her temples, attempting to wash the exhaustion and angry away.
Harper is sitting on the overstuffed chair across from her quietly.
"Pearl…" the Asian vampire dropped her hand and glanced at her old friend questioningly. "I need the information. I cannot wait any longer."
Pearl sighed heavily. "From what I've gathered so far, there are the Founder Families in this town. Katerina's descendant and Imogen's descendant are from those families. I believe there is a higher chance that Emmanuella's descendant is also from a Founder Family. I do not know which yet."
"That is good enough for me. I will be taking over and foresee the matter." The soldier vampire stood up to move out of the house, but Pearl stopped him.
"I do not think it is wise to search for her yet, my friend. After this mess, along with the Salvatore brothers and possible Council on our back… I need to fix and control the damage." Harper frowned at it. "I know it is not what you want, but please, give me time and you will complete your mission." Pearl asked with pleading eyes.
The solder vampire stared at her longingly, but finally sighed. "Fine. I will give you time. But it won't be long." He warned her.
"Thank you, my friend." Pearl said with relief.
It was time to put her plans in motion.
