Chapter 1

"From Poachers to Prisoners"

"We were only trying to help the elephants!"

Those were the cries and pleas that Sloan and Bree Blackburn had made as they were arrested by the Kenyan authorities. But they weren't just poachers now…a slew of new charges were brought against them: kidnapping, attempted murder, blackmail, charges brought upon them thanks to their encounter with the Thornberrys, particularly their daughter, Eliza. Yesterday, they were on the verge of their greatest conquest and now, they were put into prison. Stripped naked and bound by rope attached to the wall, they were placed in a large interrogation room. With them was just one man, a police interrogator with one purpose: to get them to reveal the truth.

"Kind of strange, isn't it?" the interrogator said in a heavy Kenyan accent. "That you would be here facing me and answering to the charges against you?"

Sloan then turned over to Bree with a glare in his eyes, a glare that he was not going to back down easily. But he particularly looked at his wife's stomach. They had something inside of her that was now put into danger.

"If you were just here on poaching charges, then you would be just taken directly to a jail cell," the interrogator continued, rising to his feet and walking over towards the bounded couple. "But no, you're not. You are here because there is something far more serious, am I right?"

The Blackburns said nothing, which made the interrogator take his hand and slap Sloan across the face.

"AM I RIGHT?!" he shouted in the male poacher's ear. "I can tell by your silence that you say I am wrong."

"We were only trying to help the elephants," Bree whispered. "Why can't you see that?"

"Because your victims said otherwise," the interrogator retorted, looking sharply at Bree. "And now, you are going to answer my questions or else."

"Or else what?"

He then took a switchblade knife out of his pocket and pointed it right at Bree's stomach. Rubbing the blade against her stomach, he could see that she was with child.

"Tell me something, Mrs. Blackburn," he asked. "Are you pregnant?"

"Don't you dare hurt her!" cried Sloan, struggling against his bonds.

"SHUT UP, YOU!" the Interrogator snapped, pointing the knife at Sloan. "I'm going to get to the truth of your actions by any means necessary!"

He then turned back to Bree, once again placing the knife at her stomach.

"Now, answer my question, are you pregnant?"

"What is it to you?" Bree asked defiantly.

"Because you harmed children, correct? Held two of them prisoner along with a chimpanzee?"

"That's a lie!"

"Is it though? That's not what your accusers said. You held them against their will, threatened to keep them from ever seeing their parents again. You even threatened to throw one of them off a cliff if you didn't get information out of the youngest!"

"And I would if I did," Sloan snarled. "We got what we wanted and if I wanted to do it over again, I would have!"

The interrogator smiled at Sloan for he had obtained his first confession.

"If you wanted to do it again, you would have?" asked the interrogator, smiling in sarcasm at Sloan. "Well, congratulations. You just made your first confession that you would have no shame in hurting a child. What about hurting the baby animals you snatched from their families, huh? Did you care about them? Did either of you care about them? No, the only thing you cared about was money that you would make off of them!"

He then made a fist and growling, punched Sloan in the stomach three times, each blow causing him to cough up blood.

"That's what you did, isn't it? You wanted to take a leopard cub and make a coat out of him, isn't it?"

"Who told you that?" Bree cried, defiantly. "Thornberry?"

"Perhaps," the interrogator answered as Sloan coughed up some more blood. "But, I think there's something else, isn't it?"

Reaching into his shirt pocket, the interrogator read off a small piece of paper.

"You also had hunted a rhino and tried to take it's horn. You tried to electrocute a herd of elephants as demonstrated when you were arrested, among your other crimes. You might as well confess everything now, you two."

"Screw you," hissed Bree as the interrogator walked over and struck Bree in the face with the back of his hand, causing her to yell in pain.

"Well, we have ways of making you talk," said the interrogator, who then motioned for several more interrogators wearing masks to come into the room. "And every time you lie, we will hurt you. Just like how you hurt the emotions of Elizabeth and Deborah Thornberry."

The Blackburns watched as one of the interrogators brought forward a bucket of cold water and placed it on the floor next to a small kiddie pool.

"Ladies first," the interrogator said, pointing to Bree. Realizing what they were going to do to her, Bree tried to fight back, struggling against her bonds, trying to kick the interrogators. "Stop fighting, bitch! You'll only make it worse for yourself!"

Bree struggled further as Sloan watched, trying to cry out to his wife.

"Don't you hurt her!" Sloan screamed. "Don't you hurt her!"

Yelling and screaming, Bree was placed on her back and her head placed into the kiddie pool. One of the interrogators then placed a hood over her head as she let out several loud screams.

"You are only making this worse on yourself," the interrogator said, motioning for one of the men to take the bucket of water and dump it onto Bree's covered head. "Confess everything and we will stop! Did you intend to kill Elizabeth and Deborah Thornberry? Did you intend to kill Elizabeth and Deborah Thornberry?"

The bucket was then dumped onto Bree's head as she screamed and choked on the water being poured.

"Answer and we will stop!" the interrogator said sternly. "Did you intend to kill Elizabeth and Deborah Thornberry along with killing the animals you targeted?"

"Stop it!" Sloan shouted. "Bree, don't say anything!"

But the interrogators wouldn't stop it and the more Bree resisted, the more water was dumped on her. Bree coughed and gasped wildly, trying to remain defiant. However, the interrogator wanted to send the two of them a message and he carefully studied Bree's pregnant stomach as it moved up and down.

"Answer us!" he thundered, before suddenly getting an idea. "Stop!"

Doing as they were told, the interrogators stopped and lifted Bree up, removing her mask as she spat water at the interrogator, only to be met with another slap in the face.

"Tie her back up," he said, his eyes locked on Bree's stomach. "So help me, Blackburns! I am going to get through to you and if this is the only way, so be it!"

Once Bree was tied back up, one of the interrogators brought forth a police baton intending to use it to deprive the Blackburns of not just their pride as poachers and criminals, but of their dignity as well.
