9. A Duel In The Storms

Ken Valbrandur chapter 7: Yeah, I do want to make her summon Trishula soon as there are two moments in the story where that would work extremely well.

Ken Valbrandur chapter 8: No, I haven't watched, read or plan to watch/read Death Note. The entire first part of Varis/Revolver vs Soulburner will be in this chapter, but first the Speed Duel since I have something planned for the Master Duel Chapter.

The Speed Duel between Varis, the leader of the Knights of Hanoi, and Soulburner, the origin of the Fire Ignis, has begun while they are riding on a Data Storm with their hoverboards surfing on them like a beach on a bright sunny day. They stood on opposite sides, Varis on the right side while Soulburner was on the left side of the field. Flame had his arms crossed the entire time while not saying a word while Seigen was on his computer, trying to look over what was about to happen.

In the place that looked like Paris, only ruined thanks to the destruction of it due to a certain Knight Of Hanoi and a monster used by the Knights Of Hanoi, Cracking Dragon, next to the Eiffel Tower was an unconscious body of Kiku Kamishirakawa's Avatar, Frostgirl, as the main goal of the duel was to see if they can get her conscious back into her body thanks to an antidote.

Soulburner, Flame and Seigen were at worry the entire time of the duel and even before the duel as they know who they were fighting, it was the Leader of the Knights of Hanoi, the man whose sole goal was to destroy the Ignis, not to mention that they have no idea what kind of deck is using.

Varis on the other hand was completely calm through the entire time as he pretty much had every possible advantage he could think off, he had his enemy in a place where no one can help him out, he knew most of his strategies while his opponent didn't even know a card in his deck, not to mention he did have a goal to at least end in a draw for a more…easier victory in his place.

There was also a different thing that he wanted to test out, a certain Skill that could be useful in his duel against Soulburner in the 2nd Round and it was a pretty normal cost, but a great effect to boot. But there was a slightly small problem, he never went inside of a Data Storm, so it will be difficult for him to even do so, but that won't stop him, not once, not ever.

"Now, I think we have stalled without a duel long enough, have we Soulburner?" asked Varis as he looked towards Soulburner with a smirk on his face while Soulburner narrowed his eyes towards the Knights Of Hanoi, and gritted his teeth.

"I think that is the first thing that you and I agree on, Varis! Let me tell you something, I can't wait to bust you down!" yelled Soulburner with Flame nodding with him, but still a bit uneasy seeing the leader of the Knights of Hanoi so close and in person that it felt terrifying just to be around him.

"Good to know," said Varis as he flew a bit forward and then faced towards Soulburner who drew the top 4 cards of his deck, while Varis didn't move a muscle. "Since this is my terrain and dueling on a Data Storm that I created, I think it is fair that I start first." he said as much as they didn't like that, they had to agree that it would be at least fair to let him go first as they sighed.

"I think that is…fair, so I think we should let him go first." said Flame as he was at least thankful for that since the deck he created was more of a go second hand rather than a go first deck.

"Good to know that you agree, Fire Ignis." he said with venom in his voice, but he quickly shook it off as he swiped his hand to reveal 4 cards. He then picked one of the cards, "I'll start by activating my Spell card, Pre-Preparations of Rites!" the card materialized in front of them as their eyes widened.

"Wait, that card?!" yelled Seigen in shock as he wasn't expecting a card like that in Varis' deck.

"He plays Ritual Monsters?!" Flame was in shock to learn about that since he doesn't seem like a man that would use Ritual monsters, but here it is a shock.

"Rituals?!" Soulburner widened his eyes as he realized what that card did since he was at the back foot of it once, "This is horrible." he said simply as Varis grinned.

"Looks like I don't have to explain what this card does, but for good measure, this card allows me to add a Ritual Spell card from my deck to my hand and then I get to add a monster whose name is in the Spell's card text." he said as two cards appeared on the top of his duel disk as he then took them, but not before showing them, "I add from my deck my Heavy Interlock and my Borreload Riot Dragon!"

Varis grinned as even though he wasn't the best with Rituals, he was still a better Ritual users than most duelists who use that archetype like Gishki, or Black Luster Soldier, and even while using only Ritual monsters, he was still able to defeat his enemies without mercy. That's why he always has at least 2 Ritual Spells, Contract With The Abyss and his Heavy Interlock.

Firstly, he has to set up his field, even just a little bit, "I will then normal summon my Silverrokket Dragon!" he said as he picked a card from his hand, and then on his side of the field appeared a big dragon that had 3 sets of neon purple wings on the back of its back, as it had silver armour for a dragon that had purple lining going all around its body, as it had light green claws, and even some lining to boot, and a large bullet on the top of its head.

(Silverrokket Dragon: Level 4 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1900. Defense: 100.)

"I then activate the Continuous Spell card known as Supply Squad." he said as then on his side of the field, a Spell card materialized in front of him as he began explaining the card's effect, "With this, once per turn, if my monster was destroyed, either by card effect or by battle, I get to draw 1 card."

"This isn't good." said Soulburner as he narrowed his eyes as Flame nodded.

"I concur. That means even when he loses monsters and field presence, he still has ways of getting advantage, even with just a card drawn." Flame explained as he narrowed his eyes.

"How correct, but it was only natural for an AI to understand something as simple as my card." said Varis as he then swiped his hand to show almost his entire hand, as he then pointed at one card, "I now activate my Ritual Spell, Heavy Interlock!" he said as the card materialized in front of them.

"With this, I can use tribute monsters from hand and field whose levels are 8 or above, not to mention with this I can destroy my Rokket Monsters used for the Ritual Summon!" he said as then a dark purple circle appeared on the field that had symbols that present a face of Borreload Dragon as 8 lights appeared on the circle as he destroyed one card from his hand, and then his Silverrokket Dragon exploded as soon as 4 of its lights appeared on it.

Varis then began to chant, "O valiant spirit of mayhem! Now is the time to pull the trigger to unleash myriad thunderbolts! I Ritual Summon! Descend, Borreload Riot Dragon!" From the purple circle, everyone stood quietly as then on Varis' side of the field appeared a massive dragon that had dark blue colouring on its body, blasters on its arms, two cannons on the back of the monster as the head looked like a powerful ancient dragon from myths as yellow energy wrapped around its head, as it on the back 4 sets of neon green sharp as swords wings as it then roared with the might of a beast ready for combat.

(Borreload Riot Dragon: Ritual - Level 8 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 3000. Defense: 2500.)

Their eyes were stiff as they can only look at the Ritual monster in shock and in slight fear of the monster. Seigen closed his mouth with his hand as he looked at the monster that made his Ritual monsters look like chickens, Soulburner took steps backwards as he saw the monster, but shook his head off and readied his duel disk.

Flame narrowed his gaze at the monster as he remembered that it did resemble, both in name and in appearance, to a monster that he used that he called his ace. What was it again…Borreload Dragon?

"Looks like you haven't expected a monster of this calibre, but I am going to be level with you, this isn't even the best monster I have." he said as then a card appeared on the top of his duel disk, "Supply Squad's effect, activates! When a monster I control is destroyed, I get to draw one card from my deck!" he said as he drew the card.

He looked at the card and grinned, this will help him out immensely. He took the card and yelled, "I end my turn after I set this card!" he said as then on his side of the field a card was set vertically behind the Borreload Riot Dragon, only for it to disappear.

Before Soulburner could take a card from his deck so he could start his turn, Varis went in, "I am not done! When my Silverrokket Dragon is destroyed, during the End Phase, I get to special summon a different Rokket monster from my deck! So come out, Metalrokket Dragon."

On his side of the field, a dragon with dark blue armor appeared with 3 sets of neon green wings on the back, as it had black parts around the blue parts of the lower part of the body, with sharp gray claws, a red bullet on the top of its head rose on the field in defense mode.

(Metalrokket Dragon: Level 4 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1700. Defense: 1400.)

"Even during the End Phase…" Flame's eyes went up as he realized that not even during the End Phase he would not get an advantage on card numbers.

"That's right. Your move, Soulburner." he said as he placed his hand on his hip.

Turn 2. Soulburner - 4000 lp - 4 cards

"Well, we have to fight a monster with 3000 attack points, a monster that most likely has a similar effect to the other Rokket monster, a set card and a card that allows him to draw at least once per turn." Soulburner clicked his tongue. "Not a good matchup." he said as his partner nodded.

"I have to agree with you there, Soulburner. I think it is better for the both of us if I decide some of the plays." he said as he looked at his partner who didn't look bothered in the slightest.

"Yeah, that sounds fair." he said as he placed his fingers at the top of his deck, "My turn. I draw!" he said as he drew the top card of his deck and then he showed his hand to his partner.

Flame stayed quiet as he then pointed at two cards from his hand, "Use this card with this card." said Flame as he nodded as he took a card from his hand.

"I'll start by activating my Spell, Cynet Mining!" the card materlized on his field as he began explaining the card, "With this, if I send a card from my hand, like my Salamangreat Fennec," he did so as a card popped out of his duel disk, "So I can add a Cyberse monster from my deck like my Salamangreat Meer."

He then took two cards from his hand, "Now two effects go off at the same time! First, my Salamangreat Meer special summons itself when it is added outside of the normal Draw Phase, and then, Salamangreat Gazelle activates its effect! It summons itself on my side of the field when a Salamangreat Monster is sent to the graveyard!" he said as Varis grinned.

"I don't think so! I activate Borreload Riot Dragon's effect! When a monster would be special summoned, I get to negate that summon and destroy that monster!" he said as electricity went around his monster as Riot Dragon opened his mouth to show a minigun in its mouth, "Enemy Negation…FIRE!" He said as then a bullet was shot from the mouth of his dragon directly towards Gazelle's card, negating its summon and it was sent to the graveyard.

"Oh byte!" yelled Flame.

"However, after I activate its effect, I have to either destroy it or a Rokket monster, fortunately, I can destroy my Metalrokket Dragon!" he said as his Metalrokket Dragon exploded as then a card appeared on the top of Varis' deck as he then placed his fingers on them, "Supply Squad's effect activates! I get to draw a card from my deck!"

"This is not good at all, now he has to go against a monster that negates a summon each turn." Seigen gritted his teeth.

"Well, we can still summon our Salamangreat Meer!" said Flame as Soulburner slammed the card on his duel disk as then a large Meer on their side of the field, as it had orange colouring, three sets of flames, a gray tail and feet, brown skin around its legs and torso and red lining with blue eyes.

(Salamangreat Meer: Level 2 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 800. Defense: 600.)

Soulburner then pushed his finger upwards as fire appeared from the tip of his fingers, "I will now blaze the circuit!" he said as then a circuit appeared from it as Meer went towards one of the Link Arrows, "The Summoning Conditions is one Level 4 or lower Cyberse Monster, so I set my Meer in the Link Arrows." he said as then a monster was formed from the circuit.

"I Link Summon! Link-1, Salamangreat Balelynx!" he said as then on his side of the field appeared his well known and only Link-1 monster.

(Salamangreat Balelynx: Link - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 500. Link-1. Link Arrows: Bottom-Middle.)

Soulburner then took a card from his hand as Flame remembered the card as it was a monster originally from the Dark Ignis, but was later given to him as it did suit his deck better than his own deck, "Now, I will normal summon my Flame Bufferlo!"

On his side of the field appeared a big black bull as black fire appeared around its horns and knees and it went as crazy as possible as it roared. Its entire colouring scheme was black and dark blue.

(Flame Bufferlo: Level 3 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1400. Defense: 200.)

"Now, it is time for a Link Summon!" yelled Flame as Soulburner nodded.

"Got it! I blaze the circuit!" he said as then from the tip of his fingers appeared a fire that created a circuit, "The Summoning Conditions are 2 Fire monsters, so I set my Flame Bufferlo and Salamangreat Balelynx in the Link Arrows!" he said as the two monsters turned into fire as they went into two Link Arrows.

"I Link Summon! Link-2, Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf!" On his side of the field appeared a Link monster that he grew to love using. It was the same wolf that had white claws on its legs and hands, fire appearing around her torso, light green around its stomach and knees, dark green around its knee caps, arms, crotch and head, as it had a white tail and red eyes.

(Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf: Link - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1800. Link-2. Link Arrows: Top-Middle, Bottom-Middle.)

"So you are going all in with that monster, right?" asked Varis as Soulburner didn't answer, "Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but that monster won't be enough to destroy a monster of my calibre!"

Soulburner smirked as Flame began, "That may be the case, but we still have some moves left! First off, when Flame Bufferlo is removed from the field in any way, we have to discard one monster," Soulburner took out a card and revealed it to be Salamangreat Salamandra and sent it to the graveyard as two cards popped out of his duel disk, "so we can draw 2 cards!"

"And here we go!" he yelled as he drew the 2 cards and looked at them. He then smirked as he showed them to Flame, who nodded in confirmation that he is allowed to use them.

He took one of them, "I activate the Spell, Fury Of Fire!" he said as the spell materialized in front of them as he began explaining, "With this, I get to special summon up to 2 Salamangreat monsters from my graveyard in defense position," he said as two cards popped out of his duel disk as he took them, "So come out, Salamangreat Fennec and Meer!"

His Meer appeared on the field in an X position while a small fennec fox appeared on the field in an X position that had the colouring scheme of purple, gray, orange and light orange with his eyes being dark green while its tail was set on fire. Fennec was on one of Sunlight Wolf's Link Arrows.

(Salamangreat Fennec: Level 3 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1600. Defense: 200.)

(Salamangreat Meer: Level 2 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 800. Defense: 600.)

"However, for the rest of this turn, after I used my Spell, I can only Link Summon once." stated Soulburner as Varis nodded. Then, a card popped out of his duel disk as he took it, "Then Sunlight Wolf's effect activates! When a monster was summoned on one of its Link Arrows, I get to add a Salamangreat monster from my graveyard, however I can not special summon it the turn I add the card. I add Salamangreat Gazelle!"

"You can add any card you want, but they won't change the outcome of the duel when you are dueling someone you can't even think of winning in your wildest dreams." said Varis as Soulburner smirked.

"Oh yeah!? How about this? I blaze the circuit!" he said as from the tip of his fingers appeared fire which then created a circuit, "The Summoning Conditions are at least 2 Fire monsters, so I set my Sunlight Wolf and my Fennec in the Link Arrows!" he said as they went to three of the Link Arrows.

"I Link Summon! Link-3, Salamangreat Smoldering Bear!" he said as then from his Extra Deck appeared a massive bear that was almost the same size as Borreload Riot Dragon. The fur around its stomach was emerald green while his arms and legs were crimson red and around its torso were black fur, while around its neck, legs, arms, back and mouth, it was on fire as its claws were gray.

Varis stayed quiet as he saw one of Soulburner's Ace monsters on his side of the field as he knew that this wasn't going to be a walk in the park, but he knew that things just got interesting.

"Now! I activate the Equip Spell, Salamangreat Fang!" he said as the left arm of Smoldering Bear was turned into the head of Salamangreat Heatleo, "This card can only be equipped by a Salamangreat monster."

"Not to mention the fact that our Smoldering Bear gains 300 attack points for every Link Arrow that it has!" he said as around their Link Monster glowed red for a bit.

Salamangreat Smoldering Bear: 2300 - 3200 attack points

"It now has enough to destroy your dragon! Battle! Salamangreat Fang attacks your Borreload Riot Dragon! Smoldering Rampage!" Soulburner said as his Link monster charged towards the Dark Dragon monster and opened its claw hand to reveal fire as hot as the surface as the Sun as it landed directly towards it.

However, Varis didn't look bothered by this, not in the slightest. "Sorry to burst your bubble, but thanks to Heavy Interlock, my Borreload Riot Dragon can not be affected by monsters that were Special summoned from the Extra Deck and it can not be destroyed by battle against one!" he said as the monster revealed itself as it showed Borreload Riot Dragon still standing without a scratch on him.

"Damn it!" yelled Seigen.

"But you still take the damage!" said Flame.

Soulburner gripped his hand in frustration as he knew that it would be difficult to take this man down, but he never thought it would be like this! "I end my turn." he said as Varis threw his hand out.

"Now the effect of my Metalrokket Dragon's effect activates! I get to special summon a Rokket monster from my deck, like my Shellrokket Dragon!" he said as he took a card from his deck and played it.

A monster with 3 pairs of neon green wings appeared on the field. It had dark gray skin, a small neon green bullet on the head, yellow tips on the fingers, neon green lining all over the body, and an armour that was bright yellow.

(Shellrokket Dragon: Level 2 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1100. Defense: 2000.)

"Even during my own End Phase," Soulburner gritted his teeth, "well, at least he can't do anythi-"

"That's not all!"

"Damn it." said all three of them at the same time as Varis took the only card in his hand.

"When a Dark Dragon was special summoned on my side of the field, I get to special summon Noctovision Dragon on my side of the field! So come out." he said as then a massive black dragon with three sets of neon green wings appeared on the field, with 4 red eyes, brown ears and yellow lining all over the body.

(Noctovision Dragon: Level 7 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 0. Defense: 2800.)

"And with that, your turn is truly over." stated Varis as a card appeared on his duel disk.

Turn 3. Varis - 3800 lp - 0 cards

"My turn! I draw!" he yelled as he drew the top card of his deck. He looked at it and smirked. This card will help him out in summoning a monster that will help him out in a duel like this, but he couldn't right now as his field was full.

So he has to clear it out, "I'll manifest my circuit!" he said as then from his hand appeared a small amount of Data Material and then, a circuit appeared from it, "The Summoning Conditions are 2 Dark Dragon monsters, so I set my Noctovision Dragon and my Shellrokket Dragon in the Link Arrows!" he said as his two monsters went into two Link Arrows.

"I Link Summon! Link-2, Dillingerous Dragon!" He said as from the circuit appeared a mechanical dragon that had a colouring scheme of purple, green, dark yellow and black, as the feet and arms were that of guns, whose eyes were yellow, and the chest was that of a Revolver. When it was summoned, it roared.

(Dillingerous Dragon: Link - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1600. Link-2. Link Arrows: Top-Middle and Bottom-Middle.)

A card then appeared on the top of Varis' duel disk to which he took it. "When Noctovision Dragon is sent to the graveyard as a Link Material, I get to draw 1 card from my deck." he said so as the rest gritted his teeth.

Easy to summon Dragon, with decent stats and an effect that allows him to get advantage when used as a Link Material? He is stacked with good monsters.

Varis then swiped his hand as he looked at his options, realizing that one of the cards was an Equip Spell that will get in handy soon, but he had to set up a board real quick. He picked the left card, "I now summon Magnarokket Dragon in attack mode."

On his side of the field, on one of Dillingerous' Link Arrows and on the left side of Borreload Riot Dragon, appeared a much smaller dragon that had dark blue armour, white claws, red skin around its stomach, hands, head and neck, as it had 3 pairs of neon green wings, with it having green eyes and a small brown bullet on the top of its head.

(Magnarokket Dragon: Level 4 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1800. Defense: 1200.)

Everyone in the duel realized one thing, he had enough monsters for a Link-4 monster, one of the most powerful types of monsters, and the ones that usually have the best effects. Soulburner narrowed his eyes and leaned in, ready to face one with Flame doing the same thing.

Varis knew that he could go for one of them, but at the same time, he still had some things to do. Data material appeared in his hands as he threw it in the air, creating a circuit, "I will now manifest my circuit once more! The Summoning Conditions are at least 2 monsters that aren't tokens, so I set my Dillingerous Dragon and my Magnarokket Dragon in the Link Arrows!" he said as his two monsters went to the Link Arrows.

"Come, the dragon whose bullets are strong enough to pierce through all shields! I Link Summon! Link-3, Triple Burst Dragon!" He said as then on his side of the field appeared a dragon with no legs, but a large brown and black tail, with long sharp claws, as its head was that of a sniper scope, with guns around its chest with 2 sets of neon green wings.

(Triple Burst Dragon: Link - Dark Dragon - Attack: 2400. Link-3. Link Arrows: Top-Middle, Middle-Right and Bottom-Middle.)

The two dragons looked at each other, before roaring loud enough to shatter glass that were near them as they had to cover their ears from the loud screech.

"Dear lord, how many Dragons does this man have? I swear I have never seen this many Dragons in my life!" Soulburner said as he looked at the two powerful dragons.

"I don't think…no I know this, that this is a horrible time for jokes!" said Flame as he looked at his partner.

"Well, I tried to lighten the mood…did it work?"

"No."

"If you two are done with your little conversation, the time for battle is fast approaching, but first, I will activate the Equip Spell, Dragon Nails!" he said as the card materialized in front of him, as he began explaining, "This card makes it so my Borreload Riot Dragon gains 600 attack points!" he yelled as then his dragon roared as its claws got sharper.

Borreload Riot Dragon: 3000 - 3600 attack points

"Oh Crap, now it is stronger than Smoldering Bear." said Seigen as he looked worried for his best friend.

Varis grinned as he pushed his arm forward, "Battle! Borreload Riot Dragon attacks your Salamangreat Smoldering Bear! Borrel Blast Of Destruction!" he said as from the mouth of Borreload Riot Dragon appeared a gun that would destroy even the mightiest of creatures as the blast charged for a while until it became silver like its claws due to Dragon Nails, and then it shot towards Smoldering Bear.

Soulburner pushed his hand out, "I activate my Smoldering Bear's effect! When a Fire Cyberse monster is targeted for an attack, I get to return one Salamangreat monster from my graveyard to my hand to halve the damage." he said as he reached for his graveyard, but Varis smirked.

"You would do no such thing!" it shocked everyone as he pushed his arm forward, "I activate my Triple Burst Dragon's effect! Once per turn, if an effect would be activated, either by Spell, Trap or Monster, it negates the effect! Property Zero!"

"Aww crud!" yelled Soulburner in shock, but he then reached for his graveyard for a monster, but Flame stopped him. He was shocked by this, but realized that Flame might have an idea for why he stopped him. It was simple, Smoldering Bear would be destroyed either by his Borreload Riot Dragon or by his Triple Burst Dragon, so he stopped what he was doing and blocked himself from the attack.

Soulburner: 4000 - 3600 life points

Soulburner took a step backwards as he looked at his opponent as Flame looked at his partner, "Soulburner!" he looked at his partner quickly, "Use the effect of Fennec in your graveyard and Gazelle in your hand!"

Soulburner's eyes widened as he grinned, "Alright! Thanks Flame!" he said as he took a card from his hand and then took out a card from his graveyard, "Two effects go off at the same time! First, when a Cyberse Link monster that was special summoned from the Extra Deck is destroyed, I get to special summon it from my graveyard or hand, so come out Salamangreat Fennec!" he said as he slammed the card on his duel disk.

His Salamangreat Fennec appeared in defense position in an X position, slightly growling at the two monsters, but as soon as they glanced at it, he stopped in fear.

(Salamangreat Fennec: Level 3 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1600. Defense: 200.)

"Now, the effect of my Salamangreat Gazelle activates! When a Salamangreat monster is sent to my graveyard, I get to special summon it to my field! So come out!" he said as he slammed the card on his duel disk.

On his side of the field appeared a gazelle whose fur was purple on the back, neck and head, white fur around its torso and lower parts of the body, some red lining around its legs and neck, some red around its ears, black around its legs and fire around its back.

(Salamangreat Gazelle: Level 3 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1500. Defense: 1000.)

Soulburner then took out a card from his deck as it was popped from it, "When he is summoned, either by normal or special, his second effect activates! I can send a Salamangreat monster from my deck to my graveyard, like my Salamangreat Jack Jaguar!" he said as he sent the card to his graveyard.

"Just because you summoned two monsters on my turn won't make a difference! Triple Burst Dragon attacks your Salamangreat Fennec! Precision Lane!" he yelled at the top of his lungs as then from the guns, were shot out a massive bullet that was the size of its head, straight towards Fennec.

Soulburner took out a card from his graveyard, "Sorry, but my Balelynx won't let that happen! You see if I banish it from my graveyard, so my monster is safe from harm!" he yelled as he placed the card in his pocket.

Varis…wasn't concerned, "That doesn't change the fact that you still take the damage! Because Triple Burst Dragon deals you piercing battle damage!" he yelled as Soulburner's eyes widened.

"What!?"

"Oh byte!" yelled Flame as the attack went towards Fennec and it was pushed back, but it stayed strong and it didn't fall into pieces.

Soulburner, however, flinched when the attack went through.

Varis: 3800 lp

Soulburner: 3600 - 1400 life points

Varis looked at his opponent as his two dragons roared, "This…is nothing compared to the true power of the Knights Of Hanoi, Soulburner. This is only a fraction of what the power of the Knights have! I end my turn!" he said.

Turn 4. Soulburner - 1400 lp - 1 cards

Soulburner took in a breath. It was almost impossible, he thought, that he could overcome this in only a turn, and really, who could blame him? He had a monster that can stop a special summoning once per turn, and a card that negates effects, once per turn, with both of them having a massive amount of attack points, not to mention the only card in his hand being that of Sanctuary.

But that didn't stop him. Not the slightest. This motivated him into getting the perfect card he needed to turn around this duel. For him, for Flame, for… Kiku.

He took a breath as he looked at Flame, and as if he could read his thoughts, nodded his head. He grinned as he placed his fingers on the top of his deck and yelled, "It's my turn! I…DRAW!" he yelled as he drew the top card of his deck and flipped it to see it be his Link Fire's Return.

The card was good, great infact, but he needed something more. "Flame!" his partner looked at him, "Start it up!" he yelled as the Fire Ignis nodded as he smacked his hands together as fire appeared around his body.

"Right. Here it is." he said as Soulburner's hand was also caught on fire as he smacked his chest plate.

"I activate our Skill Burning Draw!" he yelled as he placed his fingers on the top of his deck as he yelled, "With this, my life points drop to 100!"

Varis: 3800 lp

Soulburner: 1400 - 100 life points

"Thanks to that, for every 1000 lost due to this effect, I get to draw 1 card and you best believe that I am going to use that to my advantage!" he said as his fist was covered in flames.

"Bring The Heat, Soulburner!" yelled Flame as his partner grinned.

"I…BURNING…DRAW!" he yelled as he flipped the top card of his deck, and looked at it. It was Pot Of Greed! Perfect, but first he needs to get over Varis' Triple Burst Dragon, and he knows a way to get it over.

"I now blaze the circuit!" he said as from the tips of his fingers appeared fire which in return created a circuit, "The Summoning Conditions are at least 2 Fire Effect monsters, so I set my Gazelle, Meer and Fennec in the Link Arrows!" he said as his two monsters went into the circuit's Links.

"I Link Summon! My favourite Salamangreat monster, Link-3, Salamangreat Heatleo!" On his side of the field appeared the very monster he loved summoning the most. The monster who was a lion with golden fur with black fur around its legs, hips, arms and neck, with his two hands being smaller sized heads of Heatleo, as it had small sapphires around its body, having green eyes, 4 wings at the back of its body with fire coming out of every part of his body. It glared towards Borreload Riot Dragon, Triple Burst Dragon and Varis.

(Salamangreat Heatleo: Link - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 2300. Link-3. Link Arrows: Top-Middle, Bottom-Left and Bottom-Right.)

"So you summoned your top dog in the duel? Well, looks like you have something planned." he said as Soulburner grinned.

"That's right! But first, that won't be the only thing I will do! I activate my Spell, Link Fire's Return!" he said as the card materialized in front of him, "With this, I get to special summon from my graveyard a Salamnagreat Link Monster! So come out my-"

"I wouldn't think so! I activate my Triple Burst Dragon's effect! Negating your Spell card from activating!" he said as he pushed his arm forward and pointed directly towards the Spell card, "Property Zero!"

A massive bullet appeared from the gun of Triple Burst Dragon as it was shot directly towards the Spell, creating a small explosion, making Soulburner grin.

"Thank you for that Varis," he raised an eyebrow as Soulburner took a card from his hand, "So I can activate this! My Pot Of Greed!" the card materialized in front of him as he began explaining, "With this, I get to draw 2 cards for no cost!" he said as he did so.

He looked at them and grinned. He showed them to Flame who looked happy at the cards. He wasn't sure that they would win this turn, but they are going to have a massive advantage.

"I activate the Spell, Salamangreat Performance!" he said as the card materialized in front of him as a card popped out of his duel disk, "This effect is pretty simple: If I have fewer life points, I get to target 1 Level 4 or lower Salamangreat monster, like my Jack Jaguar in my graveyard, so I can add a second copy of that monster!" he said as he took the card from his deck.

"Which we will then summon!" Flame said as his partner slammed the card on their duel disk, appearing a jaguar with 6 spikes on the back which were on fire, yellow and black fur, with green eyes.

(Salamangreat Jack Jaguar: Level 4 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1800. Defense: 1200.)

"Now! We activate the effect of our other Jack Jaguar in the graveyard," Flame stated as he took two cards from his graveyard, one was Jack Jaguar and the other Salamandra, "by returning one monster from our graveyard to our deck, like Salamangreat Salamandra, we get to special summon our Jack Jaguar on one of Heatleo's Link Arrows." he said as Soulburner nodded with him.

"Yeah! Come out!" he said as he slammed the card on his duel disk as a second copy of Jack Jaguar appeared on the field.

(Salamangreat Jack Jaguar: Level 4 - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 1800. Defense: 1200.)

Varis stayed quiet as he wanted to know the strategy of Soulburner as he continued onwards, "I now activate the field Spell, Salamangreat Sanctuary!" he said as nothing changed. "With this, I can now use a Salamangreat Link monster as the entire Link Material! So I blaze the circuit one more time!" he said as then he created a purple circuit as his Heatleo went inside of it as he began to chant.

"Reincarnation Link Summon! Rise again, from the valley of flames! Salamangreat Heatleo!" he said as then on his side of the field appeared the same monster, but it felt much more powerful as its true powers are about to be revealed soon enough.

(Salamangreat Heatleo: Link - Fire Cyberse - Attack: 2300. Link-3. Link Arrows: Top-Middle, Bottom-Left and Bottom-Right.)

"I now activate my Heatleo's special ability! You see, when it is Link Summoned, I get to return your Spell or Trap card to your deck!" he then pointed at Varis' lone set card, "So say bye-bye to it!" he said as Varis grinned.

"You will do no such thing! I activate my Trap! Metaverse!" the card revealed itself as their eyes widened to it, "With this, I can either add or activate a Field Spell from my deck! So I activate my Field Spell, Boot Sector Launch!" he said as he took a card from his deck and activated it automatically.

"Oh come on, he countered that too?!" yelled Seigen.

"Crap." he said as he narrowed his eyes at the move as he then pushed his arm forward, "Still, my Heatleo's Reincarnation's effect activates! I can target one monster on your field," he pointed at Triple Burst Dragon, "And his attack points become that of a Salamangreat monster in my graveyard, and I choose Meer!" he said as Triple Burst Dragon went down and glowed blue for a bit.

Triple Burst Dragon: 2400 - 800 attack points

"That's not all! We activate the effect of our Spell card, Blasting Vein!" he said as Soulburner inserted the card in the duel disk, "With this, we destroy a Spell or Trap on our side of the field, like our Sanctuary…"

Sanctuary's card appeared on the field as it then exploded as Soulburner took two cards from his deck, "so we can draw 2 cards from our decks!" he said as Soulburner showed his hand to his partner and they nodded to each other.

It was perfect for this turn.

First he took one card from his hand, "I'll first set a card face down." he said as a card was then set vertically before disappearing.

Varis raised an eyebrow as Soulburner suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs, "Battle! Salamangreat Heatleo attacks your Triple Burst Dragon! Heat Soul!" he said as then his monster charged towards the Dark Dragon monster with flames coming out of him as he raised its fist and punched the dragon square in the face as he made a small explosion out of it.

Varis covered himself to block himself from the dust.

Varis: 3800 - 2300 life points

Soulburner: 100 lp

"You may have destroyed my Triple Burst, but you won't get pass my Borreload Riot Dragon!" he said as his monster roared in power as Soulburner then smirked at the Leader Of The Knights of Hanoi. He then drew a card thanks to the help of his Supply Squad in his backrow.

"Is that so? Well, I guess I have to change it." he said as he pushed his arm forward at one of his Jack Jaguars, "One of my Jack Jaguars will attack your Borreload Riot Dragon! Fire Fang!" he said as his Jack Jaguar's teeth turned hot fire as it jumped towards the Ritual monster.

"Are you insane?!" yelled Varis.

"I can't believe I agree with Varis, but yeah, are you insane?!" yelled Seigen as Flame shook his head.

"No, he is perfectly sane!" yelled Flame as his partner took a card from his hand and the card appeared in front of them, "When a monster that we control is battling against a monster that is at least twice as strong as our monster, Battle x 2 doubles up our monster's attack points!"

Varis raised an eyebrow at that, but then realized the amount of attack points it will gain, and the attack of his Ritual monster. He was aiming for…

Salamangreat: 1800 x 2 - 3600 attack points

… a mutual destruction.

Jack Jaguar then pounced at the Borreload Riot Dragon as it bit the dragon with enough force to make an explosion, but unfortunately it was too weak as when it did, so did Jack Jaguar.

"You managed to destroy my Borreload Riot Dragon by using a tactic like that. I am impressed." said honestly Varis as Soulburner grinned.

"Cool, but telling someone one nice thing won't stop them from continuing with attacking you directly! Go, Fire Fang!" he said as his Jack Jaguar's teeth turned into hot fire as it charged at Varis, biting him in the arm, as it then returned back to his owner.

Varis didn't even flinch at that bite. Instead, he looked happy that he took the bait. Kiyoshi watched the duel with a camera from Varis' duel disk, as he then raised his that had the very card that will help him in the match against Soulburner soon enough.

Varis: 2300 - 500 life points

Soulburner: 100 lp

"With that, I end my turn." he said with a proud grin on his face as he just took down 2 of his powerhouses, but Flame realized that he wasn't in the slightest worried. Not even for a second.

Something was up.

Turn 5. Varis - 500 lp - 1 card

Before Varis could even draw a card, he stayed quiet, as if he was contemplating something, something that he wanted to test out, but he realizes that he has to do it. He looked over to Soulburner and his Ignis. "I have a question."

"Hmm? Yeah, what is it?"

"What Skills do you both have?"

"What kind of question is that?" Soulburner tilted his head in confusion as Flame narrowed his eyes at him, "Burning Draw, you just saw me use it."

"No, I didn't mean it like that, I meant, what Skills you both have, not just you." he said as Soulburner looked confused as he looked at Flame.

"What does he mean by that, Flame?" he asked his Ignis.

Flame crossed his arms together, "I think I know what he is talking about, but I will tell you this. Us Ignis have two Skills, one as a generic one that we all share, but we all have one special Skill that is more suitable to us. The Generic one for all of the Ignis is Storm Access, a Skill that I don't like using since it doesn't fit my, or even your style."

Soulburner nodded as he wanted to know one thing, "What does Storm Access do?"

"How about I show it?!" Varis yelled as all of them looked at him like crazy, but soon enough his eyes glew yellow, "I activate my Skill, Storm Access!" he yelled at the top of his lungs as a chunk of data material appeared at the palm of his hand, but it quickly grew in size as he then threw the data material in the air, causing a tornado of data material.

Flame looked terrified at the sight as he had to know one thing, "HOW DO YOU HAVE THAT?! Only the Ignis could have a Skill like Storm Access!"

Varis grinned, "Let's just say that Frostgirl's card helped me with that." he said, causing everyone to widen their eyes as Varis flew at the Data Storm. He then flew into the Data Storm, raising his hand as he began to explain the Skill. "If my life points are less than a 1000, I get to add a random Cyberse Link monster and add it to my Extra Deck!" he yelled at the top of his lungs as data appeared around his palm.

He then saw a silhouette of a massive dragon-like monster that was bigger than even his Borreload Dragon and had orange like skin. He grinned as the card fully appeared at the palm of his hand as he took it. He then read the card's name, "Topologic Bomber Dragon? Looks like you will help me immensely in this match."

He then went outside of the Data Storm as he then saw a card appear in the sky, which was made as a way to show that it was time, but it didn't mean the Data Storm disappeared, only slightly weakened as Soulburner went around it as it was turned into a wave of some kind.

He then looked at Soulburner, and without a word, a card appeared at his duel disk, "My turn! I draw!" he said as he did so, but Soulburner pushed his hand out, not wanting to take chances, no matter how small.

"I activate my Trap, Threatening Roar!" he said as then a card appeared on his field, "With this, you can not conduct a Battle Phase." he said as he really didn't want to face any monster that he just added.

"That would be a problem, if I wanted to attack." he said, raising everyone's eyebrows as he then pushed his hand out, "I activate the effect of my Boot Sector Launch! If I have fewer number of monsters on my side of the field, I get to special summon from my graveyard, Rokket monsters up to the difference. So come out, Shellrokket and Magnarokket Dragon!"

He said as his two dragons rose up on his field.

(Magnarokket Dragon: Level 4 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1800. Defense: 1200.)

(Shellrokket Dragon: Level 2 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1100. Defense: 2000.)

"I have enough monsters to manifest my circuit!" he said as he then threw massive amount of data material in the air as then on a circuit appeared, "The Summoning Conditions are 2 Dragon monsters, which one of them is a Rokket monster, so I set my Magnarokket and Shellrokket Dragons in the Link Arrows!" he said as his two monsters flew at the circuit and the Link Arrows.

"I Link Summon! Link-2, Quadborrel Dragon!" he said as then on his side of the field appeared a dragon whose two hands were that of a shotgun, a small tail, small legs, the stomach being that of a Revovler, 2 pairs of neon green wings, with the colouring scheme being yellow, around his tail, legs, crotch, torso and gun hands, with everything else being black.

(Quadborrel Dragon: Link - Dark Dragon - Attack: 1000. - Link-2 - Link Arrows: Middle-Left and Bottom-Middle.)

Everyone became worried about Varis' new monster as he was too confident on a monster that wasn't as strong as even compared to Jack Jaguar. Varis looked at his two cards in his hand, and smirked.

"This is the beginning of your end! I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Quick Launch!" he said as then the card appeared on his side of the field as he began explaining, "With this card, I can special summon a Rokket monster from my deck, so come out, Exploderrokket Dragon!" he said at the top of his lungs as then a new monster appeared on the field.

On his side of the field appeared a snake-like dragon that had a brown colouring scheme with a hint of black, with 3 pairs of neon green wings, with red eyes and a small brown bullet at the top of his head.

(Exploderokket Dragon: Level 7 - Dark Dragon - Attack: 2000. Defense: 2000.)

Varis stayed quiet as he then took a card from his hand, "This is over! I activate the effect of Quadborrel Dragon! I discard one card from my hand," the card in his hand disappeared as he pushed his arm forward, "so now I can destroy one monster on the field," Soulburner and Flame readied themselves for the effect, but Varis did what no one expected other than his father.

"I target my Exploderokket Dragon!" he said shocking everyone.

"WHAT!?" all three of them yelled as Quadborrel Dragon turned around and fired the bullet towards his comrade, but Varis wasn't done just yet.

"Now I activate the effect of Rokket Dragon! When it is targeted for an effect by a Link monster, by Rokket Dragon is automatically destroyed!" he said as his brown dragon exploded.

"WHY?!" yelled Soulburner as Varis grinned.

"Because… when it activates this effect…" he looked at him straight in the eyes, "...we both take 2000 points of damage."

"Excuse me?!"

"Oh byte!"

"No way!" they all said as then a small bomb appeared in front of Varis, which then exploded, causing both of them to fall backwards, and directly towards the Data Storm, causing all three of them to be sucked in the Data Storm.

Varis: 500 - 0 life points

Soulburner: 100 - 0 life points

DRAW!

Kiyoshi looked at the explosion of the duel and nodded, proud of his son that he managed to get to this point in such a short amount of time, but he knew that he couldn't look at the rest of the footage, since now, they were dueling in the Data Storm.

He turned around, and closed his eyes. "I know you can do it, Ryoken, so don't fail on me." he said as he then logged out of Link VRAINS.

Seigen looked horrified at the moment, as he saw his best friend and Flame fly off their duel boards and directly towards the Data Storm, and then being sucked in the Data Storm and the worst thing about it, is that the camera was cut off the moment they went in.

He breathed in and out. He didn't want this, he would hate to lose all of them. The people he cared about, and even after that incident, he could only pray and breathed in and out, "Please, win, Teddy, please."

SOL Tech higher ups, aka the chess pieces, hated this for 2 reasons. For one: that man's son was a cause of all of this mayhem in Link VRAINS, as duelists were all around the Firewall, trying to get in, and failing, causing a slight buffering at the high calibre of duelists at such a small place, they were thankful that people like The Gore and Blue Angel weren't there at least, and secondly: they didn't even know the strategy of Varis as it was all cut off, making them unable to look.

They couldn't do anything, other than doing nothing.

In The Data Storm

Soulburner and Flame looked all over the place, as he swore he never saw this place in his life, but he has to admit that it did look cool. He was floating around it, with floating rocks all over the place, with the space around them being purple like the Data Storm that had a digital code around it.

He then looks around for the man that he has to defeat…for her. He then spotted him immediately as he was standing on a rock to a different side as he knew what he wanted. He looked at a rock that was on the opposite side of Varis.

"What was the meaning of this, Varis?! Why did you do this?!" yelled Soulburner as Varis looked at him.

"Why did I do this? Well, it is simple. This was the only place where I can destroy the Fire Ignis without any distractions, no people around you to help you, just you and me." he said as Soulburner gritted his teeth.

"Really?! That's it?!" he asked as Varis nodded.

"That's right, and I believe this is the perfect place for a Master Duel." he said as he raised his hand upwards.

"A Master Duel?" asked Flame as Varis nodded once more.

"That's right, Fire Ignis. A duel perfect for the both of us, a duel of our calibre, a duel to determine the Fire Ignis, the rest of the Ignis and the whole Cyberse World! So what do you say, Soulburner?! Ready for the duel!?" yelled Varis as Soulburner narrowed his eyes.

As much as he hated to admit it, but he was right. It was the perfect space for a duel between them, a duel between the Leader Of The Hanoi and the person against the Hanoi, it could determine what will happen to the other Ignis, not to mention he had to know how good of a deck is during a Master Duel. That also being the case as he wanted to shock everyone that wasn't Flame that he was the one to defeat Varis in a duel. Not to mention… he could learn about that incident more.

He looked at Flame who had the same thought process as they both nodded at the same time, and then they got ready, "Alright! Let's do this, Varis!"

Varis grinned as then a card appeared from the Data Storm as it went closer to his deck and duel disk, "Perfect, but first, I need this." he said as the card went towards his duel disk and was absorbed into it. Ready to use it against Soulburner.

They narrow their eyes. They knew that something was afoot with that card, but they couldn't do anything about it, or even ask him about the card. They have to be ready for any situation, even like this one.

They both looked at each other, and then they yelled at the same time, "DUEL!"

Varis: 4000 lp

Soulburner: 4000 lp

Master Duel!

Stage 3 was all done and finished, now Stage 4, the final Stage, was beginning.

Done! A quick chapter that I finished in only 5 days, because of my GX: Rewrite! And a 9k chapter, pretty good.

I hope you guys enjoyed the duel, and I know I did! This duel was a one that I quite enjoyed making, and it did change possibly the most out of all my duels while I was writing this. I wanted to add Borreload Riot Dragon since I was sad that it was the only Borrel monster, sans Borrelcode and Borrelend, not to be summoned in the anime, and trust me, this isn't the last time we see this monster. I will add Cracking Dragon soon enough in the duel, since I do really like the monster and its design.

The duel in canon, between Varis and Playmaker was okay in my opinion, but it was a bit boring since Yusaku only had Decode and Encode Talkers in this part of the show, and honestly I am glad that he got more of them in the story. I did however enjoy the fact that Varis had Storm Access, and I had to explain how exactly he had it.

Varis, or Revolver in the sub, or Ryoken Kogami is my 2nd favourite character in VRAINS, and one of my personal favourite characters in Yugioh. He is, in my opinion, the most deep and the most complex character in the whole franchise, as he had a small, but noticeable character arc in the anime, and his duels are always fun to watch as he is just a strong force to be against. I will shortly add his XYZ, Fusion and Synchro monsters in this fic, but not right now.

Next chapter is Varis vs Soulburner Round 2, and let me tell you, it is going to be a RIDE for everyone, and Soulburner's powerhouses are going to appear in this story, but I won't tell you guys who it is.
