"I don't believe it!" Flash, who is sitting on his desk, tells Ned. "How do you go from an alien invasion in New York to an entire planet suddenly changing genders?"
"It was the entire universe, actually." Ned responds.
"The Universe?" Flash asks. "I didn't catch that. How do they even know it's the entire universe? Did someone go out there and check?" Ned blushes, realizing her mistake a little too late.
"I'm sure they have their sources." MJ responds, trying to cover for Ned's blunder.
"I still can't believe the Avengers are back together." Flash says. "That's awesome!"
"Since when have you been an Avenger's fan?" Ned asks.
"I've always been an Avengers fan." Flash responds. "Especially when they got Spider-Man on board."
"What is it with you and Spider-Man?" MJ asks.
"What? He's awesome!" Flash responds. "He protects the neighborhood, and he's inspiring. You know. He inspires me."
"You're not just saying that because everyone hates you, now?" Ned asks with a smirk.
Flash looks down at Ned and smirks back. "No, man, he's pretty cool. I bet he's cute, now that he's a girl, too." He pats Ned's shoulder as he says this.
Ned looks at Peter, wondering how she will react to this. Peter is more shocked by the friendly exchange Ned and Flash just had.
"Since when have you guys been so chummy?" Peter asks.
MJ raises an eyebrow at this, shocked that she hadn't noticed earlier. "Yeah, I thought you hated each other."
"We've always been friends." Flash lies.
"I'm just trying to be nice..." Ned answers and turns away, trying to dodge the question. She grabs her Pluto plush and moves it out of sight. Peter is about to ask about it when something distracts the others.
Yellow and green sparks appear across the classroom near the exit door and begin to spin and rotate until they create another entirely new opening. Half the students in Peter's classroom and Mrs. Harrington now look on in shock as Wong walks through the portal and starts looking around the room.
"Peter? Peter Parker?" Wong calls.
"Here!" Peter calls out as she stands up.
Wong turns toward Peter and her friends. "Ah, there you are." He tells her. "It's time! We have to go, now."
Peter, suddenly confused by the urgency of the situation, is caught completely off guard. "Wait... Right now?"
"Excuse me! What's going on?" Mrs. Harrington asks loudly, trying to assume control of the classroom.
Wong turns to the teacher, and recites an excuse that has clearly been scripted. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I am Peter Parker's guardian. Due to an emergency in the family he is going to be doing home school for the next few weeks or so. We will enroll him in the school once everything has been situated."
"Why haven't I heard anything about this?" Mrs. Harrington asks, clearly still confused by the magical portal standing behind Wong.
"It's okay Mr. Harrington... Mrs. Harrington." Peter interjects. Her teacher turns toward her and smiles at being called Mrs. "I know him. I forgot to tell you about this."
Mrs. Harrington looks back to Wong, then the portal, then Peter, and back to Wong. She is unsure of what to say, so she just stutters.
"Peter, what's going on?" Betty asks.
"It's ok, I'll explain later." Peter answers, hoping she will not have to.
"Do you have your suit?" Wong asks.
"Yeah," Peter answers, pulling at her collar lightly. "Both of them." She starts walking toward Wong, but only manages a step and a half before Flash jumps up and places a hand on her chest.
"You're not going anywhere with my friend Peter!" Flash shouts. His hand lingers on Peter's chest for a long moment before it bobs up and down resulting in Flash pulling away abruptly. "Peter?" Flash gasps.
Ned slowly gets up and grabs Flash's right arm and MJ stands to help pull Flash away. "It's okay, Flash. He's part of the Stark internship." Ned says, trying to make excuses. Him and MJ guide Flash into Peter's now empty seat.
"But Peter's a..." Flash starts to say, but now he's totally confused.
"It's alright." MJ tells Flash. "He'll be okay."
"Oh, hello MJ." Wong says, just noticing her. She waves back with a smile.
Peter looks back toward Ned then MJ, nods at them, then turns back to Wong. "Right, we should be going!" She rushes to the portal as Wong steps through. "Should we really be leaving them like this?" She asks Wong.
"Don't worry." Wong responds. He reaches through the portal and tosses an odd spinning ball of light into the classroom which becomes a blinding flash just as the portal closes.
Everyone in the classroom looks on motionless for the next few seconds before continuing their day as if nothing ever happened.
"Do you think Spider-Man is going to join the Avengers in space?" Flash asks, continuing the conversation from earlier.
"I don't see why not." MJ answers, letting go of Flash's arm and wondering why she was holding it in the first place. "What're you doing in Peter's seat?" She asks.
Flash looks at the seat and jumps out of it, forcing Ned to let go of his other arm. "That's strange." He responds. "I must have thought it was mine. Where is Parker anyway? I haven't seen him all day."
"He's going to be doing homeschool for the next few weeks." Mrs. Harrington responds from the front of the classroom. "He had a family emergency."
MJ and Ned look at each other in confusion. Neither of them remembered Peter saying anything about this.
*** Meanwhile, halfway across the world ***
"What was that?" Peter asks Wong.
"Simple memory modification spell." Wong responds. "They won't remember the last few minutes, and are susceptible to the caster's comments."
"Oh, like Men in Black." Peter replies with a smile. "So they all really think I'm homeschooling, now?" Peter asks.
"Yes, it was essential to help protect your identity." Wong replies.
"Wait, so does that mean Ned and MJ don't remember what just happened?"
"No, everyone at school thinks you're homeschooled now."
"But MJ and Ned need to know. Otherwise they'll be confused! We have to go back! Is there any way to undo the spell?"
"It is too late to undo the spell, and changing it would be very dangerous."
"But now all my friends are gonna..." Peter starts to say when Wong turns around and points one of his fingers in Peter's face.
"If there is information so important that they must know it," Wong tells Peter. "Then simply tell them again the next time you see them." He lowers his finger and walks away. "There is no need to over complicate things."
"Oh.." Peter responds, realizing Wong is right. Now that her mind is no longer racing she realizes they are surrounded by many other people. "Where are we?"
"You're in Wakanda, on a spaceship," A female voice responds.
Peter looks up to see the familiar face of the Sorcerer Supreme, smiling at her. "Dr. Strange." She smiles back.
"Have you been practicing your sling ring?" Dr. Strange asks her. Peter smiles and nods. "Come, let me introduce you to some of the others." She says raising her hand to guide Peter as a mother would guide their child.
***Further up the way***
"So you're telling me, for the last three weeks, I've been blaming this idiot for all this, and it was you idiots the entire time?!" Hank Pym asks angrily. Janet places her arm around Hank to calm her down.
"Well," Sam Wilson responds, wondering why he has to explain all this. "It wasn't me, per say, but we all did our best to avoid this."
"Are you sure it wasn't this idiot?" Hank asks sarcastically, pointing at Ant-Man.
Hope steps in front of Scott, somewhat shoving her behind her back. Scott stumbles a bit, but manages to catch herself. "I told you to stop picking on her!" Hope snaps at Hank.
Hank turns to his daughter, now son, and actually glares at him, but doesn't say anything.
"Hope, honey." Scott chimes in. "Hank is just joking, that's how she always is."
Hope partially turns toward Scott and grabs her wrist. "Don't defend him!" He's always mean to you! You need to stick up for yourself."
Scott nervously turns toward Sam and shrugs her shoulders. "Sorry." She silently mimes.
Sam is looking at Scott with serious concern. He looks at Hank Pym and can see she is concerned also, seemingly for Hope. He decides to interrupt their exchange. "Anyway, the guy who did this is insanely strong. Rumor has it he can actually pull a moon out of orbit and bring it crashing down."
The comment had the intended effect. Hank turned back toward Sam, wide eyed, and even Janet looked legitimately shocked. Hope was still glaring at Hank.
"You're telling me, you need our help fighting a big purple guy, with magic fingers and a pension for cross dressing, who can throw moons at you?" Hank asks in disbelief. "That sounds like one of those Saturday morning cartoons this one watches!"
"Dad, when was the last time I watched a cartoon?" Hope asks, a little annoyed.
"Not you! Him!" Hank gestures toward Scott, who only responds by shrugging her shoulders and smiling. "How do you expect us to fight something like that?" Hank asks.
"I don't know." Sam responds. "He was a big help at the airport... literally. Maybe he could do that again."
"He can get pretty big, but not big enough to stop a moon." Hank responds.
Sam looks down in thought for a moment, before replying. "Well, maybe we can shrink Thanos?" Sam asks.
"I can't even begin to explain why that would be an even worse idea." Hank answers.
"Yea," Scott adds. "You'd basically be turning him into a magic unstoppable bullet."
Sam takes another moment to think to himself. "Would it be possible to maybe get inside him, and you know, mess shit up?" He asks next. "Maybe expand in his head. Make him explode?"
"I'm not climbing inside his head!" Scott answers. "He'll only hear me if I go for his ear, and he'll probably see me if I go for his face."
Sam looks at Antman and responds without skipping a beat. "There are other orifices." He smiles while he points his finger skyward to mime upward insertion.
"Nobody's crawling up anybody's ass!" Hope snaps back loudly. This causes Sam to laugh. Hope locks eyes with Sam. "If he's even half as strong as you say he is, it would probably just crush Scott anyway. She would probably just be absorbed by Thanos's body over time."
"Can we change the subject?" Scott asks. "Why does it have to be me, anyway? I'm not the only one who can shrink, you know?"
Sam just shrugs his shoulders at Scott and does the insertion gesture again with a smile. This causes Ant-Man to realize she's being made fun of.
"We could," Hank Pymm interrupts, "Use one of our hypodermic dart guns and insert someone into his bloodstream." The others all turn toward Hank to listen. "From there, they could make their way through the arteries and use one of the expansion discs to enlarge Thanos's heart rapidly, turning his body strength against him. Once it gets big enough, he would just pop like a balloon."
Hank looks up from her thought process to see all four of her companions staring at her in wide eyed shock. "What?" She asks.
"Remind me to never piss you off." Sam tells Hank.
"Yeah, that's pretty disturbing. Even for you." Scott adds.
"What?" Hank asks again and aloud. She looks at Janet, then back to the others. "You try not having dark thoughts after losing the person you love for more than 30 years."
"Aww..." Janet says before hugging Hank.
"In any case, that might work." Hope responds. "It would require someone with extensive knowledge of the blood stream, though." He turns toward Scott to imply he didn't have faith in her knowledge.
"I don't even know what a ventricle is." Scott responds.
"As disturbing as this conversation is," Sam says, "We may have to put that idea on the list."
*** Back to Peter ***
"Whoa! So you're Thee Thor?" Peter asks, looking up at him. "You're so tall!"
"Why yes I am, young... lady? Lad?" Thor responds.
"Oh, I'm Spider-Man." Peter responds. "But I was turned into a..."
"You're Spider-Man?" Bruce asks from nearby. "I didn't know you were going to be so young."
"Yes, but you will find her skills to be quite formidable, and very helpful." Dr. Strange interjects.
"Her?" Bruce asks. "You were hit by the snap also?"
"Yeah," Peter responds. "I realize it can be hard to tell." Peter pats her body down, unintentionally showing a hint of her feminine figure. "I didn't catch your name, but the way." Peter tries to change the subject.
"Oh, sorry. It's Bruce Banner."
Peter's eyes light up. "Thee Bruce Banner?! We have a picture of you above the chalkboard in my Science classroom. You're one of the greatest nuclear physicists of the modern generation. Your work on how gamma radiation affects biological matter was brilliant. I think it may even be linked to how I got my powers."
"Wow!" Bruce responds with a blush. "I haven't been praised for my actual work in ages. Everyone always wants to talk about the other guy."
"No, I mean it." Peter responds. "Your work is fascinating. I didn't realize you were going to be on this flight too. I'm really looking forward to this trip now."
"Looking forward to what trip?" Tony Stark asks, as he comes walking in from around a corner. "Kid, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in school... In New York?"
"Well, yeah..." Peter responds. "I was, then Dr. Strange..."
"I brought him." Dr. Strange interrupts. "Seeing as we were getting ready to go offworld and you had neglected to send someone for him."
"Yeah!" Tony says somewhat challengingly. "I was expecting us to teleport him when we got there. He can't be away from school for however long this takes."
"In all honesty Mr. Stark." Peter interjects. "I'm really ahead in my classes, and I really think I could learn a lot from Bruce Banner, and this trip."
"No!" Tony snaps at Peter. "It's too dangerous. That's why I asked the good Doctor to teach you how to teleport, so you can get in and out of there as soon as possible. Especially if things go sour."
"But how am I going to get there?" Peter asks. "I can't just teleport to you. I've never been to Thanos' house... castle.. Place."
"She" Tony points at Dr. Strange, "was going to make a doorway to you, when we got there."
Dr. Strange thinks it over for a moment and nods at the idea.
"Are you sure she can find me?" Peter asks, reaching for any excuse to stay now.
"That wouldn't be a problem." Dr. Strange responds. Peter looks at her with growing concern, and starts shaking her head..
"Sorry Kid." Dr. Strange continues. "As much as I hate to agree with the eccentric billionaire, he's right." Dr. Strange turns to the side and begins to open a portal.
"Wait," Peter pleads, somewhat teary eyed.. "But I just got here!"
"And now you're leaving." Tony says gesturing toward the portal. "You'll get your chance to see space again, after we get there."
"But how long is that?" Peter asks.
Tony makes a thinking gesture before responding. "It's hard to say. Time moves a little differently during high speed space travel. We expect to be there in about a week, so no less than that."
"But, Mr. Stark..." Peter wants to protest, but she already knows she can't win against Tony. Tony, being a little impatient, pushes Peter through the portal into the now empty classroom.
"And don't try teleporting to us." Dr. Strange says loudly, when Peter is on the other side. "Opening a portal on a moving ship would be catastrophic. You'd likely kill everyone on board in an instant... and maybe suck yourself out into space as well."
Peter turns back toward the portal, giving the saddest face she can muster.
"Bye Pete." Bruce Banner says with a little wave just as the portal closes.
Peter's eyes adjust to the brightness of the room and she immediately notices Mrs. Harrington sitting in the corner at her desk. She is now staring at Peter wide eyed and confused.
"Peter?" She asks. "What was that? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be doing homeschool for the next few weeks?"
Peter doesn't answer as a tear rolls down her cheek.
