Chapter 1
The sun rose in the Holy Land of Lythos…the sunlight cascaded upon the plains, the sea, and slowly began to light up the castle wall. The light continued creeping up the stone walls until it finally reached the window of a knight who was in deep sleep. As a beaming ray of sunlight came into contact with his eyelids the knight rolled over and began to sit up. Vander, 32nd Steward of the Dragon removed the royal blue covers from atop his body and started to stand up from the mattress with a sense of purpose. His aged physique crackled and popped as he made an effort to stretch his limbs. He changed out of his pajamas into clothing more suitable for exercise. Vander departed his room and made his way to the Somniel. The only audible sounds throughout the castle were the echoes of his footsteps throughout the grand castle halls and the birds beginning to chirp.
Vander pushed open his castle doors as two pigeons that were spooked by this action flew off. Thanks to a magic stone entrusted to him by the Divine Dragon, Lumera, Vander teleports to the Somniel after he places the aforementioned stone on an altar.
Vander begins his routine with a good couple of stretches and runs a lap around the Somniel. Vander admires the beauty of his workplace just gazing at the locations during his run. Afterward, the aged steward makes his way to the training grounds where he quickly does 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 squats. Then the old man takes a training axe and swings it at a training dummy. He visualizes several scenarios in his head as he shadowboxes imaginary opponents.
Once he is done he makes his way to the kitchen where he prepares four plates of breakfast, with one being for himself. The pantry is a little low on supplies and Vander sighs… "I thought I told Clanne to restock the kitchen before going to sleep last night. Thankfully there is enough for me to make breakfast for everyone at least."
Just as Vander finishes, he hears footsteps from upstairs along with a door opening and closing. Vander looks up and sees a vision of beauty. Her hair and eyes were as blue as the sky, her skin as clear as a baby's and she was dressed as someone befitting of the rank of goddess; a regal dress adorned in gold and white. She had a slender hourglass figure and was well-endowed. The woman looks at Vander. "Ahh Vander that smells lovely."
Vander looks at her as she descends from the upper floor. She begins to walk towards a table and Vander quickly gets her food on a plate and rushes it over to the table. He sets the table quickly before the Queen reaches it. Vander pulls out her seat "Breakfast is served, Queen Lumera."
Lumera sits down and elegantly picks up her utensils. She takes a bite and smiles. "Vander this is positively divine." He smiles. "However, I see that you cooked for Clanne and Framme too. Perhaps, I should fetch them. It would be a shame for their food to get cold."
The queen starts getting up, but Vander stops her. "Please, enjoy your meal my queen. I will fetch them… I'm sure I know where they are." Vander leaves to fetch the two children. Lumera continues eating her breakfast.
Vander makes his way up to the room of Queen Lumera's daughter, Alear. Due to circumstances, she has been asleep for the past 1000 years. The twins, Clanne and Framme would usually spend all their free time gazing at her. Vander slams the door open and spots the two children who seemed spooked, most likely from Vander slamming open the door. "Assumed I'd find you two up here. Time to eat breakfast… and start our daily duties. Oh, and Clanne, I will have a word with you later about the pantry." Vander turns and leaves.
Clanne and Framme watch their superior shut the door. Framme looks at Clanne "Is it morning already!? We were watching The Divine One all night again!"
Clanne grimaces "The pantry? Oh no… weren't we going to beat Vander to the kitchen so we could make breakfast this morning? I didn't stock it because I figured I'd do it before cooking."
Framme freezes in fear "That means we have to eat Vander's cooking again." The twins flinch at the thought of the 32nd Steward's cooking.
Clanne starts looking nauseous "Only Queen Lumera can stand his cooking… I think her sense of taste is a bit off." Clanne sighs "Okay Framme may as well get going." when Clanne doesn't hear a response, he looks over to his sister "Framme?" Clanne watches his sister lost in her own little world just lovingly gazing at the sleeping Alear. Clanne sighs again and drags his sister out of the room.
Framme tries to dig her fingers into the ground in an act of resistance to being dragged away from her idol of admiration. It was to no avail as Clanne easily dragged her away and just as they were leaving the room Framme let out a sharp pitched, "NOOOOOoooooo!"
Clanne and Framme arrive downstairs and sit down for breakfast. They look over to Queen Lumera seemingly enjoying her food and Vander going over some documents as he eats. The twins secretly scrape their food into a potted plant. "That was amazing, Vander, delicious as always." Vander looked up, brimming with pride. "You outdid yourself, how about tomorrow I cook for everyone instead? You should take a load off. One less chore for you to do." Queen Lumera glares daggers at Clanne.
Vander plays with his beard, looking like he was entertaining the idea but when Lumera locks eyes with him, her look saying it would be in his best interest to not agree, he decides against it. "I appreciate the thought, Clanne, but a loyal knight does not push his duties onto anyone else. Now, let's begin our duties… first things first…" Vander's demeanor changed as he became somewhat demonic. "Clanne, you will restock the pantry." Clanne gulps and runs off to do so.
"What should I do?" Framme chimes in.
Vander looks at her. "You can start by sorting the mail from the three nations."
"Tsk" Framme has an aggravated expression on her face but leaves the kitchen to get started on her assigned task.
Vander takes a cup of tea to his study as he continues looking over documents. Vander grabs a feather pen and begins responding to letters from the three kingdoms they are allied with. It is my duty to keep our relations strong with our allies. Vander thinks to himself. A couple hours later Vander decides to check on the twins and finds them cleaning the pool. Vander nods to himself and decides to check to see if they completed their previous tasks proficiently and finds the pantry is inefficiently stocked, the organization was deplorable. All the mail was not sorted, Vander found a bag that Framme missed. Vander ran back to the pool to give the two a tongue lashing .
After forcing the twins to redo their previous tasks, Vander decides to go back to his study but spots Queen Lumera on the way, speaking to her Emblem, Sigurd. "Ah, Vander, allow me to thank you for all your work, the Somniel would be nothing without you." Vander smiles at Lumera's compliment and lightly bows to her.
Three hours later Vander finishes writing responses to the three nations and sends them out. Vander started sweeping the plaza as the twins took a lunch break. Vander can see them eating some freshly picked fruit together with Queen Lumera while sitting in the kitchen. Vander feels the wind rush past him and takes in the scent of the nearby trees that blew his way. He chuckles at the scene as Queen Lumera wiped some fruit off of Framme's face.
Later that evening Vander works on his secret project as he knits a tapestry with Queen Lumera holding an awake Princess Alear. He just imagines the delighted look on Queen Lumera's face when he finally reveals it to her. Vander smiles at himself. Vander feels content and enjoys his job and the sense of peace it brings him. "I hope things stay like this until I retire." the 32nd Steward says to himself.
Vander put his project away, planning to continue working on it during his free time tomorrow as well. Vander returns to his quarters and removes his uniform. He tidies up his living space before taking a bath. The knight retires to his quarters and falls asleep excited to see what tomorrow brings.
