Thoughts and opinions:
1- I'm developing a system of the duel which I'm currently writing. I would like to receive feedback if you liked the duel system, and in the future, if I develop something better I will come here and fix the system. I'm still learning.
2- I thank you all for your thoughts about the prologue, I never thought I would receive 8 reviews so quickly, so I thank you all.
3 - The chapters from now on will be in Third Person, to describe the point of view of many characters, while the prologue was in the first person. I think it was best to make it first-person just when it comes to a whole chapter focused on him.
Now let's start.
Domino City wasn't something that Syrus expected after watching Yu-gi-oh duel monsters the first season, well, since most parts were focused on a duel in many parts of the world, especially some arcs that happened to be into a virtual world, he scoffed at the idea that he could have known the city like the palm of his hand.
Now he understands how little he knew about it.
In fact, after being reborn in this world, he noticed how much outside of water he actually was. From the moment he meet his new parents, he noticed that both of them are actually quite nice, usually, the stereotype of living in the shadow of your own brother means the parents would have preferred the elder brother and made little for the youngest, but it seems that wasn't the case, since both his parents actually loved both kids with the same love.
"Syrus, how stupid you are to not see the treasure you had in your hands, you even had supportive parents, you could have used their help to buy actual useful stuff, instead of buying figures and posters of a monster girl which is 1800 attack points..." Syrus facepalmed himself after he can imagine why Syrus would be a terrible character, and little by little he improved himself over the generations. But there were so many major flaws in him in the anime that made him annoying. His fanboying for some cards almost made him a pervert was one of them. Different from the manga his major problem in the anime was… he sucked in a duel for one simple reason… His deck sucked a lot. In the manga, they developed good cards which helped him to not just grow as a duelist but in personality, but in the anime it was different. He was an ear character, a beginner who would just listen as the viewers watched him on TV having the same thoughts. "If wasn't for Jaden helping you out, I know that you would still be a loser and a quitter at the first season… But not this Syrus. Not me. I will show you that you have growth potential, but the only mistake you did was using your own deck."
As he walked over the alleys, he decided to walk over everywhere and try to see what would be a known card store to make his first purchase of a structural deck. And going around the street he finally found some locals which he would gladly ask for info.
"Excuse me. Can you tell me the next card store around here?" Syrus approached the first man who seemed to be busy reading a newspaper, making him look at the boy surprised.
"Oh… Well if you take the first turn to the left and then at the third corner you go right, there is a game shop over there, and they sell duel monster cards as well." The man gave the instructions which made the boy with glasses nod as he received the info.
"Thanks. Have a nice day." Syrus smiled at the man before going to walk away.
"What a little interesting guy." The man who had a mustache smiled as he kept reading his newspaper.
"Roland, there you are." A voice of a teenager took the attention of the suited man, a young boy wearing an elegant white suit who looked with a short haircut but yet has the authority of a good entrepreneur.
"Mr. Mokuba." Roland who was reading his newspaper decided to finish his reading and got up after meeting his own boss again.
"Harry from engine said Kaiba Dome is ready for the applications for new students of the academy. Seto wants to have a meeting with us to discuss the process of elimination of the students." Mokuba said as he brought his own mullet with him. "It's time to go."
"Right away Mr. Mokuba." Roland followed the man behind him, before giving a final glance in the direction the boy went and then went back to his actual life.
"Okay, I think I found it." Syrus after walking for 15 minutes straight, couldn't help but take his breath, his tiny stature of a child made him mumble curses under his breath. "This little body sucks, he couldn't even walk 15 minutes? Imagine if I had to run? Okay, another thing to add to the list, make something about this body…Maybe some push-ups, and more running."
Syrus could see the big game house in front of him, but something took his attention. It was a man sitting on the corner of the shop, which made the boy stop walking.
The man seemed to be covered by a black sheet as he tried to sleep. And from the bottles of liquor on the floor, Syrus couldn't help but feel pity for the man.
He then ignored him and walked beside the door…
"I don't need your pity…" At the moment Syrus was almost reaching the door entrance he heard the voice of the man on his side, which made him turn surprised at the familiar voice he heard before. "Bandit Keith doesn't need pity from anyone."
At the said name, the eyes of the haired blue duelist went wide open as he looked at the man who even grumbling from his position, got up from his place, the face of the man looked almost unrecognizable, maybe it was from blond beard he had, but the united states bandana, that was a signature that Syrus knew full well after watching and playing so much Yugioh.
"Bandit Keith?" Syrus asked genuinely surprised after seeing the man throwing away the bottle of liquor. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, you seem to recognize a great duelist when you see one, anyway. I was here to ask for an investment from this game store. But that cheap idiot kicked me out and trowed some bottles at me." Bandit Keith genuinely acted like he was innocent, as Syrus raised his eyebrow like expecting some absurd…
"An investment? What kind of investment?" Syrus asked as he looked unamused by the actions of one of the antagonists of the primary generation.
"Horse Racing…" Bandit Keith smiled proudly as Syrus's mouth dropped in shock. "Yeah, I know that I'm a genius while going into such a risky game, but I have a hunch which I know that he will be the winner. So all I need to do is invest 3 thousand dollars to bet on him and I will win a big prize in money."
"3 thousand? Someone is willing to help you to raise this money to bet on horses?" Syrus asked aloud at the absurd of how such a character is known as a cheater actually became addicted to other games and bets… How low this character has fallen.
"Well, no… Actually, I managed to have 2800 dollars, I just need an investment of 200 dollars." Bandit Keith scoffed as he discovered the point the little brat thought he was going. "I know for sure that asking 3 thousand would be stupid."
"Well, that's less bad, but still… asking someone 200 dollars from a stranger sounds a bit stupid, but well, you never know. I wish you good luck, sir. Now I have my own problems to solve. A structure deck to buy." Syrus was honest when he wished good luck to Bandit Keith, from the anime he was a jerk? Of course, but in the games, he couldn't help but confess that he loved to play him at the games since most of his cards on Duel Links were overpowering.
"Wait… I'm selling my deck for you for 200 dollars." Once again the voice interrupted Syrus to almost reach the door handle, and for 5 seconds, neither Syrus nor Bandit Keith said a word. It was the longest silence the duelist ever had in his mind.
"Let me see the deck." Syrus turned his body and walked near to the duelist, who seemed to grin as he took from his pocket his own deck.
"Watch in awe." Bandit Keith said as he gave to the boy who examined card by card as he didn't look at the cheater duelist ever once… Examining card by card, slowly the man seemed to start sweating, and getting annoyed by being ignored. "Hey, brat. If you are not interested…"
"1 despacito, 2 despacitos, 3 despacitos." Syrus mumbled as his face started to grow his smile. "That's what I was talking about."
Bandit Keith shut himself as he looked at the boy confused.
"Deal." Syrus took 200 bucks from his pocket and immediately placed it in Keith's hand and went quickly to the game store. "It was a pleasure done business with you Bandit Keith."
Bandit Keith looked weirdly at the door close, as he soon looked at his hands, and found that he was with the money he needed.
"Well… a brat with money, I was bluffing, but it seems that he tricked the trickster. Well played kid, well played. But money is still money. See you later sucker." Bandit Keith grinned as he took off the black sheets and with his usual jacket he ran away leaving with a decision of simple thought in their minds.
"Score."
After paying the rest of his money to buy generic boosters for spell and trap cards, Syrus finally could raise his head and look straight at his new future. This time with a deck that he would be proud to duel.
Walking straight to the Kaiba Dome and wearing his usual blue jacket and student pants, he felt confident to finally pass the trials and study at the first duel academy in the entire generations of Yugioh. It was an honor to be part of something really big, since games of Tag Force. A game he loved since childhood.
"I can't believe it that I'm finally here." Syrus gasped as he could see by himself the look over the stadium, it was breathtaking indeed. And looking for all the boys and girls in multiple straight lines, it seems that this academy was indeed somewhere that just a few could pass… The place looks big in the anime, but is it really?
Waiting for his time in the line, Syrus finally could see the attendant in front of him.
"Name." The attendant smiled at him, as she had brown hair, curved like a bowl cut, and she had a cute voice.
"Syrus Truesdale," Syrus said his name after keep practicing himself in the mirror many times, as he tried to be used to being called by that name.
"Alright Syrus, on the right door there will be a written exam which will be part of 40 percent of your chance to get into the academy." The attendant gave the right instructions which suddenly looked at the face of the new applicant which looked ugly. "What's wrong?"
"Dammit, I forgot my reading glasses at home." The annoying face of the student made the attendant understand what he was thinking and have a frown of her own.
"Well, you need to find a way to pass the written exam, since passing the writing exam and the practical exam will determine which dormitory you will be for the next promotion." The attendant made sure to explain the consequences of not passing the exams, but suddenly the next words of the boy made her shocked.
"Well, it seems that I'm destined to be a Slifer anyway. And here I thought that I could be an obelisk right away." Syrus sighed as he took the papers he fulfilled and gave to the attendant a smile. "Thank you for the info. Now I have to use everything I have on the practical exam."
Syrus didn't even let the attendant ask how did he know about the dormitories, but the rushing kid was enough to make her look confused until another boy appeared in front of her.
"Oh, I'm sorry… Name." The attendant didn't have another choice other than to keep working.
The moment Syrus sat in the room, he could see dozens of students nervous about the possible exam that they would apply for, and Syrus couldn't help but accept that now that he just have his usual glasses and not his reading glasses, it would be far more difficult to pass to Ra, but well, he was confident to go to practical exam direct.
He found one of the Proctors on their violet color overcoat, which would make sense since they are part of the people who stay in the classes on tag force, and they were at episode 1.
"Here is your exam, you have 1 hour to answer all the questions. And your name will be called on the practical exam." The proctor said, Syrus looked at the paper weirdly, before going to his seat.
After sitting over the desk and writing some things on the paper, it didn't take 3 minutes, and the boy got up with all the emphasis, acting like a badass as the paper flew guided by his hand holding it, and walked slowly smiling proudly which made all the other applicants look in shock from the confident smile he had.
"That boy didn't even get here, and he already answered all the questions?" One of the boys murmured as he saw the boy in glasses raising his hand and leaving the exam over the table and nodded to the proctor as he left the room.
The proctor got curious about the boy who seemed so confident like he had answered all the questions of the test easily. The proctor got a look over the paper as his eyebrows raised from the single message on it… And he used everything to not laugh at that moment.
'I forgot my reading glasses at home, I'm going to be Slife for sure after I pass the practical exam, but why leave if I can make a high pressure over the room and leave these nervous applicants freaking out.'
It took too much for the proctor did not to laugh after witnessing many applicants almost paranoid with their tests, as one of them immediately got sped up his test, refusing to be left behind.
All I Do is win win win no matter what
got money on mind can never get it off
and every time I step up in the building
everybody hands go up
and they stay there
and they say yeah
and they stay there
Up down, up down
cause all I do is win win win
and if you goin' in put your hands in the air..
Syrus sang the song as he smiled at the most badass way to quit a written exam ever. With his hands over his pocket, he managed to walk to the opposite door over the corridor, making him have such a view of the stadium.
The arena was divided by many dueling fields and many applicants trying their best to impress the proctors over the field.
Sitting at one chair, Syrus had just three objectives in mind… And he looked from his seat everywhere trying to find him… Until he saw them…
2 main characters known from the entire GX franchise, are duelists who could make many love their characters for many reasons, especially their decks. The short blond hair wearing her academy uniform somewhat actually appealed more to Syrus than the version he saw on Arc-V, yet he composed himself and looked at the guy on her side.
Zane… his own brother was watching the applicants to see if he could see potential duelists and distract himself from the boredom he had over the academy. Well Syrus couldn't blame him… as a player who gamed Tag Force and grind to have all the cards of the game, at the moment he completed the cards, he stopped caring about playing the game, since most NPCs wouldn't be that challenging to him like before.
Now the only thing he needed was having a red cap and he would become the protagonist of Tag Force.
Syrus smiled at the thought of nostalgia passing through his mind, ignoring the glances as the rookies passed around just like the others.
Standing on the balcony overlooking the whole arena, Zane Truesdale watched the entire arena with his arms crossed and with an unamused face. He had arrived early to see the skills that the academy' possessed but at present, he was far from impressed.
As he felt someone was looking at him, he turned his head in the direction of what would be the seats for the applicants, until he saw a familiar face to him. But instead of the timid and afraid face which he has been seen almost all his life. He saw what would be his brother looking at him.
Raising his eyebrow he looked at Syrus who seemed to not be cowering in fear, neither felt not up to the task. But from the looks on his face, it seemed that he was resolute to pass the exam and go straight to the academy, even if Zane wants it or not.
"Hmm?" Zane couldn't help but hum surprised at the new way that his brother has shown since it has been 3 years since he didn't actually see his brother personally, something must have happened to Syrus which made him lose all his shyness… Something that he tried to overcome since childhood.
After looking at how his brother seems relaxed, Zane was now curious about what made Syrus be sure about his success on the test.
Zane was momentarily taken aback when a white Styrofoam cup filled with what smelled like coffee was held in front of his face.
"You seemed to be looking at that boy for a while. Anyone whose I should know?" Alexis Rhodes said before taking a sip from her own cup.
"It's my little brother, it seems that he came to assign himself at the duel academy," Zane said as he took the cup Alexis offered him as she glanced in the direction of the boy who seemed to be relaxed on his seat.
"Wow, he didn't look like you Zane. From the way you described to me, I thought he would be a little mirror of you with a shyness problem and inferior complex." Alex couldn't help but mumble loudly but the way Zane glared at her she wave her hands up. "Okay, it's the last time I will talk about both of you like that."
"Thank you," Zane mumbled as he looked at the arena it seemed to be not that interesting since most of the duelists are failing at such a simple task to defeat the proctor.
As he was alone, he felt bored since nobody could have come to talk to him, and was still feeling tired from that at. He'd never admit it, but he was glad she had joined him. Having gone to a dueling prep school, Alexis didn't have to show her skill in a practical examination. And most of the girls who pass the exams would go directly to the Obelisk camp, which made him feel happy to have a friend on his side, even after the disappearance of his best friend.
"But now that I look at him, it seems that your brother came ready to pass the exam, I never saw someone so relaxed like that, he seems with his eyes closed and almost going to sleep." Alexis could see the young boy with light blue hair was with his eyes closed and it seems in deep thought."
"He is probably meditating. And since his deck is focused on vehicroids, maybe it was for the best if he focus most part of his deck with good trap cards and spell cards." Zane commended the look on his little brother didn't come like a scary cat, but a resolute duelist who came prepared to think about what kind of strategies he had in mind.
"Vehicrod? I'm don't have much idea about the archetype." Alexis asked as Zane gave her simple info.
"It's a deck focused on machines which always would support themselves to bring themselves at the hand." Zane gave a brief idea of what that archetype would be.
"But wouldn't that archetype leave his life points exposed?" Alexis couldn't help but mumble aloud a terrible failure of the archetype.
"It would, so I need to see how Syrus would try to win against this kind of obstacle." Zane couldn't confess that the archetype Syrus choose was mostly because of his love of old vehicles and not because of their duel's effects… Syrus had a huge obstacle to winning since his deck isn't good for duels…
Syrus remained in silence and focused on meditating on the strategies over and over again, he felt nervous like it was his first championship of TCG all over again.
"Syrus Truesdale." Then a speaker called his name, making him open his eyes, and get up for his actual exam.
He walked over the stairs and managed to get in front of the proctor who seemed to look like many others, wearing black glasses and having the same haircut.
"My name is Dean, and I will be the proctor for your practical exam today." The proctor with his polite tone prepared himself as he wore his duel disk and started to shuffle it.
"I thank you for your time to make to test me, Proctor Dean." Syrus politely gave a slight bow as he felt it was best to be polite to the ones who will test you because they work hard to have their sweat money from doing what they love… To beat the crap of poor duelists.
"Ah, a polite kid. It's rare to see one over here. Well, sadly you cannot win by complimenting. Prepare yourself." Dean smiled as he turned his disk duel on.
Syrus looking at the floor had the disk duel provided by Kaiba Corp for this exact reason, he sighed as he prepared mentally himself for what he is going on.
Sighing, Syrus opened his jacket revealing his own deck in his pocket, and started shuffling, as he equipped himself with the device for the first time… Struggling a bit, but it was fine since it was his first day.
After that, he shuffled once again, and this time he was surprised by a habit he always had before his duels, he always shuffled and placed 5 cards face down over the duel disk and placed the deck inside of the duel disk. The sound of his cards could be heard from the proctor, who had never seen that way to count his five cards prior to dueling, usually, every duelist would take 5 cards on his hand, and not directly would place them on the disk before taking them.
Both Zane and Alexis watched from away the new shuffle technique that Syrus developed, and they felt a bit uncomfortable at the way the boy placed the 5 cards he was going to use at the duel.
"Zane, what kind of draw 5 cards are that?" Alexis couldn't help but cringe as she saw the boy who seemed so comfortable making the others uncomfortable.
Zane remained in silence…
"His duel style changed… he never did that before… why now?" Zane couldn't help but ask himself of the way as he glanced at his little brother ready to duel.
"Why did you do that?" Dean frowned as he looked at the kid who seemed to not understand what he did. It was never against the rules, but showing a different kind of draw 5 cards would make the kid look awful in some eyes.
"Did what?" Syrus asked surprised until he saw his duel disk with all the cards above. "Oh, well it's a habit of mine, don't worry, it's not against the rules, and it's the most comfortable way that would fit my style."
Syrus moved his hand like a snake and took the five cards like prey, surprising the proctor who found intriguing the way the boy draw his 5 cards.
"Okay, since this is an exam, everything you will do here will counts on points that will make you pass or not the exam and be worthy to go to Duel Academy. Now let's not waste time." Dean said as he made his duel disk turn on.
Syrus's own disk went light on as well.
"DUEL." Both said at the same time, which made the 4000 points appear on the disks.
"Okay 4 k points, just like duel links, I can finish this in one turn if I had a better hand." Syrus glanced at this hand showing the cards.
Golden Gadget,
Waboku,
Negate attack,
Second coin toss,
Kiteroid.
"I will be the first to play. I set 2 face downs and end my turn." Syrus knew that the best way that he could do against a proctor would be surprising him with a great strategy. Since it was the best for stall time, he decided to already make two holograms of cards turn down over the field.
"It seems that he wants to use the most solid strategy. Using trap cards o open the field for him to attack." Zane tried to guess what would be the set cards as Alexis remained in silence the proctor smiling at her friend's brother.
"Interesting strategy, having secured yourself with what would be trap cards, it would depend on what kind of traps it would be, who knows? Well, I will be glad to see which ones are there. My turn. Draw." Dean, drew another card as he looked carefully at his own strategy, which made him smile at the boy. "Alright applicant, let's see if you pass on your first question. I activate Terraforming."
Terraforming. (Add 1 field spell from your Deck to your hand.)
"That card allows me to take a field spell from my deck, and I will take wasteland." Dean used the time to take the card which would be like a desert in orange and placed it on the field. "And I will activate the same card. Wasteland. And I summon Uruby in attack position."
Wasteland. (Card Field which could make all the dinosaur, zombie, and rock monsters on the field gain 200 attack and defense points.)
Uruby. 1500 Atk. 800 Defense. (1700 - 1000)
At the moment the first monster appeared, a dinosaur that looked like the size of an elephant appeared on the field, and suddenly he became more ferocious, after receiving a boost of attack and defense.
"Battle," Dean said as he pointed the finger at Syrus who seemed to be serious from the way he was. "Uruby attack his life points directly."
"Not so fast. I activate my trap card, Negate attack. Which makes you stop your attack and end the battle phase." Syrus pressed the button releasing the right moment the card with a spiral over the field and blocking the attack of the monster who was going in his direction.
Negate attack.
"Nice save." Alexis complimented. As Zane remained quiet he nodded his head in agreement.
"The problem now will be to take out the proctor's monster on the field. It would have been easier if Sakuratsu armor was there instead of negate attack."
After seeing the attack being negated, Dean couldn't help but frown.
"Good, you survived the first attack, let's see if you can keep it." Dean was showing a polite tone as he didn't sound impressed, he expected something like that. "I will set one face down card, and end my turn.
"Okay, my turn, Draw." Syrus took the card from the top of the deck and gave a quick glance before repeating what he did. "I set another face down and end my turn."
This same response made Dean frown deeper, now he felt something was off with the boy's strategy.
"Is it all his cards trap cards? Or he is just stalling time for something big?" Dean couldn't help but frown, but he had to continue to test the kid. "Okay, it's my turn then, draw."
Dean after looking at another monster in the hand, it was time to make a better approach to attacking both monsters.
"I summon Two Head King Rex in attack position." The proctor summoned another dinosaur which became a bit bigger as it showed a boost of 200 points for his dinosaurs.
Two Head King Rex. 1600 Atk. 1200 Defense. (1800 - 1400)
"Let's see if your two cards can save you now. Battle. Two head King Rex attack this applicant life points directly." Dean decided to force the kid to use his trap card, and from the look on the boy's face, he did the right thing.
Syrus frowned as he decided if he should do something then pressing another button he had already activated another trap card.
"I Activate trap card Counter Gate. I can negate 1 attack from you and I can draw one card, if the card I draw is a monster card I can special summon immediately on the field." Syrus said as the card went up and showed two hands holding the dinosaur who suddenly got held by its hands and then launched to where it was before. The dinosaur didn't look happy from the effect. And opening the portal Syrus drew his card. "I drew Dekoichi the battlechanted locomotive. So it means that I'm forced to summon in attack position."
"That was a good move," Zane said aloud, which made Alexis stare at him surprised. "By negating one attack he could draw one card and actually summon a monster already, but sadly the effect of the counter gate makes your monster in attack position, so he will receive the next attack head on."
"So even if he doesn't get attacked from the Two head King Rex, Uruby would still atack his monster and destroy it next," Alexis said as she couldn't help but frown after seeing the little lack of luck that the boy had. "If he had a stronger monster, that would have been easier."
The locomotive appeared on the field which made Dean smile slightly at the boy.
"A good strategy, but that makes your monster my target for my next attack." Dean could say that he was impressed by how the boy was stalling him, but it wasn't enough to deal with both his monsters. "Uruby attack Dekoichi."
Syrus's eyes went shut down and he gave to another resolve.
"Dammit, I activate my second trap card, Waboku. Making all my monsters and all my life points immune to this battle phase."Syrus had to grit his teeth as he knew that his resources weren't looking good.
"What?"Alexis couldn't help but ask.
"What?" Zane frowned as he looked at the card being activated. "Syrus what are you doing?"
"What?" Dean couldn't help but be surprised. The boy had another good trap card but he didn't use it before, maybe it was because he wanted his monster to survive to all costs. "Okay, since I cannot do anything more. I end my turn."
"Finally my turn." Syrus couldn't help but sigh in relief, he couldn't let his monster be destroyed yet, he wanted to make the stall work until he had it. "Draw."
Syrus pulled a card… At Syrus give a deep glance at the card…
"Despacito," Syrus whispered, as he felt the anxiousness get away from him. He smiled once again. "I change my Dekoichi in defense position, and I end my turn."
"What?" Dean couldn't help but ask in surprise, from the way the kid was smiling, he knew the kid had something in mind, but just changing his monster position to defense, and forgetting that he had 3 different monsters on the field? It's stupidity. "I don't know why you are smiling, but since you forgot you are into an exam here, I will end this duel quickly. Draw. I Summon another Two Head King Rex in attack position. "
Two Head King Rex. 1600 Atk. 1200 Defense. (1800 - 1400)
"Battle, Two head King Rex, attack Dekoichi."
The dinosaur let out a raging cry and with maximum hatred, he destroyed the train with outrage, which made Syrus's smile get even bigger.
"They always fell for the same trick." Syrus smiled as he then raised his own card in his hands. "Since you destroyed a machine monster with a dark attribute on him. I CAN SPECIAL SUMMON MY ACE MONSTER. DESPERADO BARREL DRAGOON."
After Syrus launched the card on the duel disk, the static started to appear around the field, as the hologram of what would be a fusion of a dragon and 3 laser magnums guns combined appeared over the field letting out a huge roar, and for that surprising not just the proctor but others duelists over the arena as well.
"WHAT?" Zane couldn't help but raise his voice in surprise, as Alexis looked at the field and saw the huge weapon monster appear, it was beyond amazing.
"I thought you said your brother would have been using vehicroid." Alexis said as she looked at the monster which clearly couldn't be a vehicule, it looked like a dark machine monster ready to destroy everything.
"But Syrus always loved and used vehicroid, there is no way that this card was from that archetype." Zane composed himself as he stared at the big monster and from the way that his brother was looking at the proctor. "What happened during these 3 years Syrus? Where did you find this monster?"
Desperado Barrel Dragon (attack 2800 - defense 2200)
If a face-up DARK Machine monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn, during the Battle Phase (Quick Effect): You can toss a coin 3 times; destroy face-up monsters on the field, up to the number of Heads, then if the result is 3 heads, draw 1 card. This card cannot attack the turn this effect is activated. If this card is sent to the GY: You can add 1 Level 7 or lower monster that has a coin-tossing effect, from your Deck to your hand.
"What…" Dean couldn't help but felt amazed from seeing such a machine over the field, the guns from the monster could mean a lot of trouble for him.
"And since it's your battle phase, I activate Desperado ability. I can toss a coin 3 times, and for the number of heads, I can destroy one face-up monster if I want to." Syrus smiled as he took from his pocket a yellow coin with him. "Let's see who is lucky."
Most of the students who stopped their conversation suddenly got their eyes on the field and hearing such an explanation from the applicant, made them breathe cold as the idea of what would happen if 3 heads appeared at that moment.
Syrus launched the first coin and it ended up with tails, he tried the second time, tails again, and for the last time, tails again.
"Oh dammit, well your monsters look are safe for now. Do you still want to continue the battle phase?" Syrus couldn't help but feel disappointed, but that's how the coin toss works, you have probabilities with and against you. You will never know.
"Oh yes, well, impressive way to summon your boss monster boy. So I have nothing more to do, I end my turn." Dean couldn't help but feel relieved that ability didn't work in the middle of his battle phase, it would have made him lose more face, but since it made him survive the round, now he understand the tables were turned.
"Okay, it's my turn. Draw." Since Syrus looked at his hand, he noticed another Golden Gadget over his hand, he decided to try another approach. "Okay, I summon Golden Gadget in attack position."
Golden Gadget (attack 1700 - defense 800)
Syrus placed what would be a gear made of gold creating legs and arms as he looked not intimidating but yet it had a pretty solid attack.
"This isn't a vehicroid deck." Zane finally came to a conclusion. "Syrus must have changed his deck while I was at the academy."
"Well, from a Desperado and a Golden Gadget, I never thought that he would be using an interesting machine deck. Is it a kind of archetype?" Alexis couldn't help but mused aloud the idea of what would be a devastating ability that his ace card must have, destroying the monster for each coin toss? And during even the opponent's turn? That would be disastrous and a terrible way to null their strategies.
"Now I activate the spell card second coin toss." Syrus smiled at seeing the proctor's face start sweating. "Now I got your attention, once per turn, if I don't like the results of my coin toss, I can redo the coin toss again. Battle Phase. Now I activate Desperado's ability once again. Let's see if my luck is better now."
Syrus launched the coin in the air, tails… He frowned but then launched again, heads, Syrus smiled as he launched the coin again, heads.
2 heads.
Dean's face could become wet from the sweat.
"2 heads, now it's time to send these dinos to their own era. HEY DINOS IT'S ME EXTINCTION. Desperado CHRONO TRIGGER." Syrus shouted as he pointed at the monsters in front of him, as the lights over the weapon dragon glowed at it was already preparing to launch an explosive attack. "FIRE."
The 3 lasers from both hands and head were enough for a great light show and destruction from the Dean's dinosaurs on the field. The sound was loud enough to make the proctor take a few steps back. In one turn he already destroyed 2 of his 3 monsters.
Zane and Alexis as they were away couldn't help but be with their eyes wide open in surprisingly destructive effect.
Proctor Dean was cornered and he needs to rethink his strategy.
"Since I cannot attack with Desperado after I used his ability. I will end my turn." Syrus said as he could see the engines of his proctor turn in great speed. The table has been turned, and Syrus had the biggest upper hand.
"Okay, I have to say, you impressed me with what would be the best cold mind I have ever seen a duelist do, to think thoughtfully on this opportunity to wipe my monsters in both our battle phases, it's a thought that makes me feel scared." Dean couldn't help but praise the little boy's attitude, he had a cool mind of a great duelist already, and he could see that he waited for this opportunity for so long. "Well, it's my turn now. Draw."
After taking a look at his card, he already decided to use another kind of strategy.
"I will set one monster face down, and I will exchange my Two Head King Rex in defense position and end my turn." The angry dinosaur looked ashamed as it had to guard itself against the robot in front of it.
"Okay, it's my turn," Syrus said after he drew another card in his hands. "I summon another Golden Gadget in attack position."
Golden Gadget (attack 1700 - defense 800)
As the table looked turned from 2 single rounds. Syrus smiled as he used the opportunity to make a quite impression on the proctor.
"Battle, Now Golden Gadget destroy Two head king hex," Syrus commanded as the golden engine jumped in the direction of the monster in defense and punching away it destroyed creating mini pixels in the air. "Desperado attack the set monster."
As the big machine glared at the card upside down, it stomped on the floor exposing what would be a white dinosaur egg, before shooting with his laser and destroying the egg monster once and for all.
"I'm not done yet. Golden Gadget number 2, attack his life points directly." Syrus gave the instructions as the engine jumped directly at the proctor and gave a quite solid punch.
"Ugh." The proctor felt the punch as the life points crossing over him got low. 4000 - 1700 (2300)
"And after that, I end my turn." Syrus nodded to himself satisfied with the results.
"He is doing pretty well on this duel, isn't that right Zane?" Alexis couldn't help but feel happy that Zane didn't frown any moment as he saw that his brother has by far surpassed his expectations.
"Yes. It seems that he grew while I was at the academy, but something isn't right Alexis." Zane couldn't help but confess as he made his friend tilt her head at him. "Vehicroids usually have a disadvantage when it comes to duels, but Sirus loved that archetype since childhood, from not using his deck to a stronger one like that, something must have happened to him."
"Do you think something bad happened to him?" Alexis couldn't help but ask in concern but received a shake from her friend's head.
"I don't know, but I will later find out. Since Syrus has an easy victory on his hands." Zane could see that since the proctor is on the ropes like that, it would end soon the duel. Or so he thought.
"It seems that you got the first blood. And you already put me in the corner, but don't think that I'm out yet. Draw." Dean decided to draw another card, and with satisfaction on his face, he showed a spell card which made Syrus's eyes look at him in disbelief. "I activate Dark Hole. Destroying all the monsters over the field."
As a giant hole above them made all the monsters Syrus had over the field, even his ace monster wasn't spared, as his eyes twitched, Syrus lost it.
"Son of a Burning Abyss" Syrus cursed the name of the card which made Dean look at him surprised. "Why does this card always activate in times like that? Forget it, I activate the ability of Desperado Barrel dragon. If Desperado is sent to the graveyard I can search from my deck for a monster of level 7 or less which has the coin toss effect on it. I search for Twin-Barrel Dragon."
Syrus took off his deck and took what would be a dark blue machine which sembled a dragon. And then started shuffling his deck again.
"Impressive ability your ace monster had, but now you are exposed to my next attack. I can special summon Gilassaurus from my hand, and I special summon him in attack position." At the moment the proctor Dean placed his card on the field, Syrus could see another dinosaur appearing over the field, staring starving at him.
Gilassaurus 1400 - 400 (1600 - 600).
(You can Special Summon this card (from your hand). If Summoned this way: Activate this effect; your opponent can Special Summon 1 monster from their Graveyard.)
"And since it was a special summon. You can target one monster from the graveyard and special summon it." Dean knew that he was in trouble since Syrus could potentially summon Desperado from his graveyard and that would be a huge disaster for him.
"Nah, I'm fine," Syrus replied as he waved his hand.
"What? Why?" Dean couldn't help but feel confused by the way the applicant was looking at the monster in front of him.
"I think it would be too horrible for you to use all your effort be wasted at the moment I summon a monster which clearly most of my monsters are stronger than your standard monsters. I mean, well, give me your best shot." Syrus shrugged his arms, but the way he sounded confident about how he is going to deal with him made Dean look at him annoyed.
From the students who were watching the duel from the front row seat, they couldn't help but laugh at the provocation at the proctor, they almost felt bad for the proctor to lose a face like that.
"Oh, so that's how is going to be? Well since you insisted I will give my best shot. I normal summon Uruby in attack position." Dean summoned another monster over the field, which made Syrus understand the situation he was in.
Uruby. 1500 Atk. 800 Defense. (1700 - 1000)
Syrus glanced at the card in his hand and knew exactly how to avoid such problems.
"Battle, kid, I have to confess that you surpassed most of the expectations I had over you, but I know there is no way that you can protect yourself without a trap. Uruby attacks the applicant directly." Dean touched his sunglasses as he commanded the dinosaur to attack the kid who seemed to stare at the monster before smiling.
"What about a handtrap?" Syrus commented as suddenly a machine from the floor flew in the direction of the dinosaur and creating a force-field around Syrus and making Uruby fly away from the duelist.
Zane's eyes went wide open as he saw what would be a card that he didn't think he would see but he was relieved to see it at the duel.
"It seems that Syrus still has some cards of his archetype," Zane said as he saw the confused face of his friend who seemed surprised by the attack being denied.
"What?" Alexis couldn't help but ask. "What just happened?"
Kiteroid. 200 Atk. 400 Defense.
(During damage calculation, if your opponent's monster attacks directly (Quick Effect): You can discard this card; you take no battle damage from that battle. During damage calculation, if your opponent's monster attacks directly (Quick Effect): You can banish this card from your Graveyard; you take no battle damage from that battle.)
"One of most important cards of vehicroid archetype. It seems that Syrus must have saved it until now." Zane as he looked solemn at the duel, couldn't help but his mouth twitch after coming with that thought. "Who thought that Syrus would come with this cruel joke."
"Cruel Joke?" Alexis couldn't help but ask as she looked at the arena.
"What?" Dean stared at the machine which seemed a kind of a robot kite disintegrated over the air, as Syrus raised his duel disk to the proctor.
"Kiteroid is known as the most perfect handtrap in most duels, why? Because by discarding him from my hand I can null the battle damage from one of your monsters." Syrus said as he took a meaningful view of the card before staring at the proctor who seemed surprised by the strategy.
"I have to confess that I wasn't expecting much outside box strategy, but that would not make you feel protected if I use my Gilassaurus to attack you now. Gilassaurus attack his life points directly." Proctor Dean must say that every round he was being pushed down to the edge by all the means necessary, he thought that even using his personal deck he would struggle against the boy.
"Oh, that's the funny part. It can. I activate the ability of Kiteroid on my graveyard. By banishing him I can make another attack on me become 0." Syrus commanded as the same robotic kite flew from the floor once again and reflected the attack from the Dinosaur, launching away and making the proctor annoyed.
"Okay, now that's not fair." Alexis said as Zane shook his head as he forced himself to not smile from such a move. It's annoying in many ways, but a lifesaver nevertheless.
"Syrus seems to have learned how to play the card instead of using it. He is ready." Zane nodded his head knowing how much the action of playing Kiteroid while preventing both attacks of the proctor's monster would be enough to survive the next round, which would make his Twin-Barrel Dragon appear on the field.
"Okay, who is the funny one who started to give ideas for absurd handtraps? That was insane." Dean couldn't help but find this idea of the card beyond sane, this was something that would make many duels annoying as heck. "Well, since there is nothing more I can do, I end my turn."
"Well, since it's my turn, I will gladly draw," Syrus replied as he drew another card. "Despacito."
"What?" The proctor couldn't help but ask when Syrus smiled and said the name of something that he didn't know what it was.
"Oh, proctor. It seems that it's time for this duel ends with a climax. I summon Twin-Barrel Dragon." Syrus placed the card over the disk, as the field created a little dragon made of metal with blue and white part mechanics. "And since he was normal summoned I can choose one card into your field and use 2 coins to toss, if both coins are heads, your card is destroyed, if not then I have nothing more I can do. And I use this ability to destroy Gilassaurus."
Twin-Barrel Dragon 1700 Atk 200 Def.
(When this card is Summoned: Target 1 card your opponent controls; toss a coin twice, and if the result is 2 Heads, destroy it.)
"What?" Dean noticed that something was wrong at the moment he saw the smile of the boy who launched 2 coins in the air. Making one head and one tail.
"I will use my spell card effect second coin toss." Syrus used the spell card on the field as he launched again the coins, this time making a perfect 2 heads over his hand. "Well, goodbye Gilassaurus."
As he waved at the dinosaur monster, his Twin-Barrel Dragon from inside of his body launched dozens of rockets in the direction of the dinosaur, destroying it in pixels.
"Battle. Twin-Barrel Dragon attacks Uruby and let's end this duel." Syrus pointed in the direction of the dark dinosaur who felt challenged as the machine dragon went straight at the dinosaur and both of them clashed with each other before destroying each other. "Hey, Proctor…"
"What… oh no." Dean was confused on what was the strategy of the boy until he showed a card which was in his hand… The same ace monster which should have been on the graveyard, but he didn't know that the boy had on his deck more than one.
"HE HAS ANOTHER ONE?" Alexis shouted in disbelief as Zane couldn't help but nod his head.
"I see now, Syrus is doing the same strategy as I use in my Cyber Dragons, he must have 3 of Desperado Barrel Dragons, and in case one be destroyed he can actually use another one and special summon it. So what a better way to end the duel is by taking the monster and leaving the field open with your strongest monster?" Zane broke down the strategy when it comes to his little brother, and even after thinking about how much different strategy his brother had years ago, he felt somewhat relieved at how his little brother has made such improvement at his own deck, and that way he could be an obelisk if he does his grades right.
"Oh? Is that tone of pride from you? I never thought I would hear that tone." Alexis couldn't help but smirk as she saw how Zane actually feared that his brother couldn't grow up, but now it proved that his brother was actually a pride that he treasures most, just like herself do with Atticus.
Zane ignored her comment as he glanced at the victory smile that Syrus was having during the time, holding his ace card.
"Oh yes. I special summon Desperado Barrel Dragon in attack position from his ability, and now I attack directly with him." Syrus smiled as he placed on the field the same giant machine dragon with three freaking laser weapons on each arm and head. And the moment it looked at the proctor, it growled and roared as it launched a laser blast at the proctor.
"Ugh…" The laser was too much on his eyes as he saw his life points going to zero… After a few seconds of trying to recover his breath. He couldn't help but applaud the boy. "It was the right answer boy, you aced this whole practice exam, I'm proud to commend you at the duel academy. Welcome."
Syrus smiled at the proctor as both of them gave a handshake.
"It was GG," Syrus replied as the proctor tilted his head.
"GG?" Dean tried to figure out the character of the boy but he laughed aloud.
"GG means Good Game. It's when it's the climax of the game and the final attack you have nothing more than confess than a good game. That's why I said GG." Syrus handed over the duel disk as he placed his deck back on his jack. Making the proctor nod his head in understanding.
"You young boys finding ways to word things that most of the veterans could never understand." Dean couldn't help but chuckle.
"You have no idea," Syrus said as he took ready to leave, but not before giving his goodbye. "It was a good duel proctor Dean, I hope I see you in the academy."
Watching the boy leave, the proctor couldn't help but smile as well.
"I hope I see you too boy. It was a GG." Dean smiled as he went back to test the students.
