"Push…" A voice echoed inside of the darkness.
"Ahhhhhhhh." A female scream echoed around the darkness and void.
"Push. It's almost out." The voice again said as the sound of struggle appeared as the world around black finally showed a bit of light.
"Bwaaaaaaaa." A baby scream appeared like the eyes of the child finally opened.
"He is finally here…" A cold touch happened as the boy closely opened his eyes, and looked 2 strangers, one man and one woman, and a doctor.
.
.
.
"He is beautiful… I'm sure that she will love him." The woman said as she hugged the blanket with a baby in her arms.
"She is coming." The man said as he brought with him a tiny girl of 3 years old with him, a girl with dark pink hair combined with orange.
"Oh, mommy, daddy, who is him?" The girl tilted her head as they both smiled warmly at her.
"Anna… I want you to meet your new brother… Syrus, Syrus Kaboom." The mother said as she revealed a tiny baby with greyish eyes.
"Hello, little brother." The girl smiled as she bopped his tiny nose, as the tiny baby pouted at her. And she smiled cheekily. "You and I are going to make this world far more fun."
"Wow, what a strange dream." The boy shook his head, as he got up from his bed, and looked at the view from the window. "Wow, in the mornings this looks even more beautiful."
Syrus took a few minutes to prepare himself in silence, as he saw his friends still sleeping like rocks. He shook his head, smiling at how still faithful to the guys from the same dorm he is roommate still were from the show.
Opening the door quietly, he wore his blue gymnastic uniform provided by the academy. And he wanted to enjoy his time doing what he likes in the mornings.
Syrus took a few minutes to stretch himself, as he admired the sunrise from the Slifer dorm, it seems there was a treasure hidden in that dorm. People tend to not appreciate how good mother nature is to everyone, and the only thing they could do to appreciate was just to stay still and wait…
Taking a deep breath, Syrus finished his stretches as he was ready to start his day.
"Okay, a sprint of 10 minutes would be enough. From the distance maybe it will be enough to go to a phisical education court." Syrus took his PDA and checked the clock… 5:45, he knew the need to have 8 hours of sleep, but since his body was feeling skinny, he needed to make the exercises and make a habit for his own body. And starting from mornings like that was a good strategy he did when he lived a life before coming to GX world.
Without wasting time, Syrus calmly started to do his sprint, making himself comfortable with running at his own pace.
"Ah, nothing like a good healthy breakfast to prepare the lecture for the first day of class." A woman wears a variation of the standard Obelisk uniform from the girls' dormitory, consisting of a white jacket with blue trim, a pink skirt, and heeled boots colored brow. She prepared her makeup as she looked at the tiny mirror on her makeup, she could see her red hair with sticks out of the right side of her head. Wearing a soft shade of lipstick. Professor Fonda Fontaine was admiring the fresh air of the early mornings before doing her matinal warm-up.
Walking straight to the gym, the teacher was already thinking about what would be the first lecture of her class in the afternoon, until she started to hear something familiar and yet unusual at that hour.
"34…35…36…" She heard someone doing some effort as he kept counting around. As she looked around her, she thought it was someone doing push-ups, or even some abdominals… but she never thought someone doing a type of exercise that she wasn't familiar with. A boy with light blue hair was with his back on the floor, and using his waist he was getting up into a position of using his right lead leg to make a position of attack. And then again he was going back to the floor, and the next second he was using his waist to get up and use his other leg to make himself ready to tackle someone. "37…38…39"
As the teacher watched the boy repeating the same movements, she knew that it wasn't any ordinary exercise, but something related to maybe a martial art… But she has a tiny curiosity inside her mind as she never heard about a martial art which you would need to have to make your backs on the floor.
As she carefully walked to see the boy who was doing his exercises, she noticed that even if his face looked covered in sweat, he was still diligent with his training as he kept doing his movements with his waist.
"Er… Excuse me?" The professor couldn't help but interrupt the work out of her student, even if she constantly complain when that happens to her.
The boy stopped, as he looked around and saw the teacher looking at him curiously.
"Oh, good morning." Syrus politely greeted the teacher, as she smiled at him.
"Good morning to you too. Can I ask you what are you doing here at this hour of the day?" Fontaine liked as the boy seemed to be polite enough to greet her, as she noticed that the boy seemed to be sheepish about one thing.
"Well, usually I start my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practice in the mornings." The answer to her question made her quite shocked, as she had heard about martial art before, but never had withness someone actually practicing the actual martial arts. She heard from a friend of a friend. And it seems that one of the students of the academy knows how to actually fight using that art.
"Interesting, I never thought I would see someone practicing a modified version of the Jiu-Jitsu before. Can I ask you why did you choose that martial art?" The female professor asked as she found curious about how such someone small like the boy in front of her, seemed to have much grasp on the martial art.
"Well, for starter… Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focused on one philosophy which would make sense for people like me." Syrus said as he got up from the floor and used his hands to dust off the back of his pants, as professor Fontaine awaited patiently the answer of the boy in front of her. "David vs Goliath, where the small actually had the chance to win against the big and strong opponents, where people of my size would actually use the gravity in our favor and make the others fight against us on the floor… And the floor is the most important area to protect yourself to attack. Using the floor in your favor while the opponent doesn't know how to do that, was an easy way to win against people bigger than me."
"Interesting." The gym teacher actually found herself listening as the little boy explained to her the concepts of martial arts she nodded her head in agreement. "Okay, now I see the point. Well, I have to say that I'm no expert when related to much of martial arts, but I think you are training well your waist, the posture, and how comfortable you are using it to get up seem to show you have experience in using your body like that. I just hope you don't overwork yourself and get yourself at the infirmary."
"I agree with you. I don't wanna burn out myself and lose the first day of class." Syrus said as he turned his back to his teacher, which he was unaware of as she grinned behind him.
"Yeah, that would be terrible." Fontaine smiled as she suddenly grabbed his arm from behind and immobilized him, making him shocked. She smiled at him. "I'm a gym teacher, but I'm an Aiki blackbelt. Now say, uncle."
Syrus felt the pain in his arm, and he did something that he practiced so much in his former life, that in his mind acted by instinct. He used both his legs and jumped on his place but high enough to turn his arm and hold the arm of the teacher who immobilized him and use both legs to make a front triangle on his teacher, forming a gasp in surprise before clenching her throat between his legs, making her lose balance and made both of them get on the floor.
"Nice try, but now you are in my area. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Syrus shouted angrily, as the teacher remained in silence as she tried to struggle to not tell him. "Okay, do you want to play? Two can play the same game. Say, uncle."
As she remained quiet, Syrus clenched his tighs and made her gasp in surprise at the pain in the neck.
"I'm not going to say twice… say, uncle." Syrus was furious, how dare a teacher would try to make a surprise attack on him like that? He was focused to wait for an apology after such a terrible decision made by the teacher… but what he didn't expect.
".har…harder…"The soft voice coming from the teacher made Syrus's eyes go wide open.
"Wait, you are not…" Syrus was almost guessing what she was going to say, and he prayed it wasn't the case.
"Harder…da" It sounded soft and yet a desire. Which made a red flag on Syrus's mind.
"WOAAAAA." Syrus released immediately as he guessed what his teacher was going to say, and blushed like a tomato. As the teacher recovered her oxygen in the throat. Syrus saw a pink blush on her. "What?"
"What?" Professor Fontaine shamelessly acted as if nothing happened. Which made Syrus's eyes twitch.
"Okay, that never happened." Syrus crossed both his arms, as he got up from the floor, and the teacher nodded to him.
"What are you talking about?" Professor Fontaine recovered her blush and smiled as she understood what he said. "Well, I have to say kid, you have great skills. I was testing how you are capable to see how to deal with dangers. And I understood the quote… great gifts come in small packages."
Professor Fontaine smiled slyly as Syrus tried to ignore his blush. Making the teacher cough in her place.
"Well, it was an amazing sparring session. If you have time for extracurricular activities, I can give you access to the gym after class and bring some dummies for you to train your skills." After explaining her reasoning, Syrus's mouth went in the shape of an O, as he understood what she meant. Still smiling at him the teacher felt proud to meet such a student. "Usually life is more than a card game, and dangers lurk more than cards, but you seemed to have the concept on protect yourself, and that's really important. I'm glad to have a student who thinks like that. I hope to see you in class today."
"Thank you, teacher." Syrus nodded to Fontaine as she smiled at him, and decided to say her goodbyes.
"I recommend you do small warm-ups and go direct to shower, the academy has 3 towels for each student, so I recommend you use one and use the other one this afternoon since it will be my class. My name is Professor Fontaine. And I really want to see you at class." And with that, the beautiful teacher walked away, leaving a silent student contemplating what happened.
" Well, that's a pity that I'm not 28 years old like my former life… She is stunting… But sadly I don't want FBI to go into this… nobody wants FBI going into this." Syrus lamented as he went back to his own activities again.
One hour passed as Syrus came back wearing his uniform of Slifer dorm, and got inside of the class which would be their first-class during the year.
Noticed there were just a few students around the class. Syrus took the opportunity to sit in the front row since he liked to have a better view of examples and it would be annoying to him if a teacher would explain in low volume, it was better to be near just in case.
As he sat and looked around he found a few Slifers near his sit.
"Morning guys." Syrus decided to greet who was there to say hello.
"Morning dude." One of the students who seemed to have a mix of brown hair with a bit of red made Syrus ponder as the same Slifer boy decided to introduce himself. "Name's Hiro, happy to make your acquaintance."
"Hiro? Where did I know this name before? And this boy looked really familiar to me." Syrus wondered as he knew this guy before, especially his face, but he couldn't help to ponder. As he saw the man giving his hand to shake, Syrus shook his head. "Sorry, my name is Truesdale, Syrus Truesdale."
"I remember. You were the one who made the proctor get angry with a handtrap and used 2 desperados to defeat him. Man, that was overkill. And I love it." Hiro smiled as he remembered how one-sided the duel was, as he couldn't be more surprised to see the boy with such potential be in the same dorm as him. "I just don't get it how you became Slifer."
"Writing exam forgot my glasses." Syrus already accepted that many would make him explain over and over again how he became a Slifer instead of Ra, even for his own annoyance. "But that's okay, I know soon or later I will become Ra."
"That's a great objective. Hey, do you mind if we exchange contacts on PDA? That way we can talk and even mark a day for a duel for fun." Hiro suggested as Syrus waited for a second to think, and the next second he nodded his head satisfied with the idea.
"It sounds a good idea. Here is my DPA, you can add your contact and note mine." Syrus didn't mind about such technology, since for him this one is too slow for him, and he preferred the ones he had before coming to the GX world. But since someone offered friendship, who is he to deny?
As the duo passed a few times chatting, suddenly someone just jumped on his seat and made both Syrus and Hiro look at the boy by surprise.
"Hey guys, good morning. Ready to have a nice day to duel?" Jaden smiled as he always was excited about new challenges for the day. "Hey Syrus, you lost the duel yesterday, it was pretty neat."
"Yawn… I can't believe that even though I sleeping early, I'm feeling exhausted from all that run to come here. Morning Syrus." Chumley waved his hand as the boys waved back.
"Good morning Jaden, Chumley," Syrus said as Hiro decided to remain quiet. "I and Hiro were talking about marking a day to duel someday, but I'm not into a hurry. And by the way Jaden, how was the duel yesterday? Did you end it quickly as I suggested?"
"Nah, I wished it was that easy. But it took a few turns, and sadly the security almost got us… At the time I was going to win." Jaden scratched his head nervously. "Oh, and by the way, Alexis sounded really annoyed, she said it was because of you and your brother that she was obligated to watch the duel. She said this will have payback."
"Really?" Syrus sounded genuinely surprised. "Alexis is that petty? The only thing I did was just say to you I was there cheering you in spirit since I knew she would be there. I don't get it why she would try to revenge in something so simple like that?"
"Well, who knows? Usually, Obelisks were always mean to Slifer's students, maybe she had a grudge against you without you knowing. And my suggestion is to apologize. It's better to be in peace than to be right." Chumley said as he recognized one uncle of his who gave this wisdom words, a bald man with a beard who always wears a robe and drinks a lot and eats crisps. Inspiration of all his life.
"Well, maybe she was angry because had to witness the awesome duel and she had no one else to talk to as you were the one who was supposed to be there." Jaden shrugged as Syrus was already using his hand to wave the concern but then a new voice appeared.
" Or maybe…That's because I wanted to go there by myself, and not because someone just told me." Suddenly an annoying voice came from his side, which made the group turn their heads and see a bored-looking Alexis and her duo of friends who seemed to judge them by their eyes.
"Seriously Alexis?" Syrus raised his eyebrows in disbelief. "All of this just because I asked you a favor? You cannot be that petty."
"Hey, what are you talking about. Alexis was never petty." One of her friends who glared at the young Trusdale seemed ready to protect her friend, but she felt the touch of her friend which made her stop.
"Oh no. I'm petty. And trust me Syrus, your brother isn't safe either, I will… what are you doing?" Alexis was enjoying her time as she grinned thinking about how sweet her revenge would be until she saw Syrus giving her his PDA.
"Yeah, yeah whatever, here. It's my PDA, if you want to talk after class or even duel to vent yourself, just name a place and hour. It would be best if you add your contact as well because I know sometimes it's always good to have someone to listen and care, and I doubt my brother sometimes would more emotions than a piece of paper." Syrus knowing well the traits of his Obelisk brother, knew Alexis was actually needing more friends than just 2 girls and a boy without emotion. Jaden became her first friend after what happened in the anime, so why not be one friend as well?
"I…" Alexis actually felt speechless, as the duo of girls glanced at each other, not seeming to understand what to say, since the boy dismissed and didn't care about who Alexis was, he had the guts to just shamelessly give her his PDA… Alexis was stunned but suddenly she pouted and grabbed her PDA."Fine, but you will regret it because I will make sure to call you at 3 a.m just to duel."
"Ah… Alexis?" Jasmine tried to be reasonable, but Alexis gave a look on her that made her close her mouth. Mindy, the black-haired girl shrugged her arms not knowing what to say as well.
As Syrus saw that, he started to laugh.
"Okay, you are really petty," Syrus said as he laughed after taking his PDA back. "But fine, I will accept any time, any day, any place. And if you want to make it for it. I would suggest calling Zane once per hour after midnight, I think he would be really annoyed to get awake after receiving a prank call every hour."
"Ohhhh." Alexis smiled at the idea, as she took her PDA and noticed Zane's number was there. "That's a great idea. Don't mind if I do it."
"It's Zane, of course, he will mind," Syrus said as both siblings of the third-grade students started to laugh, leaving a confused group around them. "Well, I think soon the class will start."
"Yeah, it was a good talk, see you later Sy." Alexis smiled as she walked away with her friends. Leaving the blue-haired boy noticed that he was been watched by all the students of the Slifer dorm, and even some from the Ra and Obelisk dorm.
"How…"
"Is that Alexis Rhodes?"
"Dude, she is the hottest girl in the school. How did you meet her?"
Questions were shouted around him as he used both his hands to cover his face. As he glanced at Jaden who was actually smiling at seeing his own deck.
"Teenagers," Syrus mumbled to himself as he awaited the class to start.
After a few more minutes all the students were in their own seats.
It was at this moment that Crowler walked in, as all the students got up from their sits and waited for the presence of their teacher as a form of respect.
"Good morning, new students" The professor greeted his students his tone demanding their complete and utter attention, "I see all of you are on time. Good. I'll tolerate neither tar laziness in my classroom. You can now have your sits"
He then walked to his desk as the group of students went back from their seats and stood behind it his desk.
"I am Dr. Vellian Crowler and I teach Practical Duel Monster Card Application & The at the academy while also being in charge of the Obelisk Blue Dorm. My colleagues and I only have three years to turn you all not just into professional duelists, but great sociable people. So for starters. Duel Monsters isn't just a game of both strategy and luck, but also charisma."Professor Crowler explained the three basic concepts as the group raised their eyebrows at him while one student seemed surprised but lately nodded his head in agreement. As the group of students looked interested Professor Crowler smiled and continued. "In my class, you will develop the former, but before that, we shall review the basics."
"Nice," Syrus commented as he smiled at how well the class was receiving. It seems that Professor Crowler was indeed a teacher as he should be, and not a petty antagonist, he was glad that the concept of wanting his students to learn was in him.
"Let me start with the most basic question at all. Everything we can know about Duel Monsters is the first concept of the game is that everyone has 4 thousand life points, and start with 5 cards in the hand, and every card can be either Monster, Spell, or Trap card… Alexis Rodes, please explain to us all the types and subtypes of every card." Professor Crowler said as the student stood up ready to give the answer.
"Monster cards can be grouped into normal monsters, effect monsters, ritual monsters, and fusion monsters" Alexis gave a pause of a second as she remembered the rest of the answer, "Spell cards are g normal spells, continuous spells, quick spells, ritual spells, equip spells, and field spells. Finally, trap cards are normal traps, counter traps, and traps."
"Perfect!" Crowler complimented with glee, feeling proud of one of his students, as he wanted to give a flex of intelligence to all the new students who appeared in the class. In fact, a few students felt intimidated by how smart Alexis was. "Well done, Ms. Rhodes! I expected nothing less from one of my Obelisks!"
"Yes, Doctor Crowler." Alexis felt kind of an awkward shame as she saw all the students looking at her and how the praises of her teacher over her dormitory and not just for her own skill.
"Well, who should I question right now?" Professor Crowler decided to look carefully at the students over the class, as his eyes went in the right direction, and in the front row sit was a trio that he soon found interesting to start to see how far he could break them. "You, Syrus Truesdale."
Syrus who was seeing the gaze from his teacher got up from his seat.
"Doctor Crowler," Syrus said as he awaited the question, which made Professor Crowler raise both his eyebrows at the Slifer student.
"Explain in class what a field spell is." Professor walked as he smiled at the student as he went in the direction of the desk he was in.
"Field spell cards is the type of card which has the ability to change the state of play not just for the user but for the opponent as well, having just one slot at the duel disk indicates that there is just for the field spell to be used on it, known as field zone." Syrus started as he could see the face of his own teacher looked shockingly surprised and he didn't finish it. "While some field spell cards can give boosts on attack and defense, the most powerful zone cards are the ones that allow you to make an interesting combination with your cards, like fusing them while using the field spell, recycling the cards you have, or even allowing you to draw an extra card per turn, there are unique field spell cards, which all activates when they are placed and not set, but there is an option to set a field spell card on the slot… which I have a question for you Doctor Crowller since this has been bugging me during years… why do we have the option to set a field spell card since it could never be used like a quick spell or a trap card?"
Not just Professor Crowller was speechless, but many other students were with their mouths dropped hard, as they couldn't even have thought about that…
Now all the students had the same question on their minds… Why can they be allowed to set a field spell since they cannot be used as a trap card… They never thought about a field trap card. And they doubtfully will believe that someone will create cards like that.
Professor Crowler recovered from his shock and composed himself.
"Well Mr. Trusdale what you ask actually is a question for the P.H.D level of class, but I will be glad to answer it." Professor Crowler noticed that most of his students were looking for an answer, he felt his ego bust as he know really well why. "Since you know that there are many cards of magic and trap cards on the field since most players have paranoias on the what was hidden on the set card, the first thing in mind is actually get rid of the said cards on the spell and trap zones slots. So they try to engage destruction of the said cards… And that's where people usually set cards on the field slot… It's bait."
"A bait?" Most of the students asked themselves, but suddenly Syrus snapped his fingers in realization.
"Riiiiight. Now it makes sense... How a better way to make the second effect of a card activate, if not by destruction?" Syrus nodded as he finally understood and took a notepad from his behind pocket and started to make a few notes. "Thank you for the answer Professor Crowler."
"You are welcome Trusdale, I have to admit that your duel against the proctor was a spectacle for my eyes, but I felt mistrust of you since I found the message you gave to all the proctors on your written exam. It's unfortunate that you are not a Ra for a little pair of glasses that you forgot to bring, so I will not allow you to be a slacker, and I want you to take seriously your written exams and bring your glasses with you." Professor Crowler gave some jabs as Syrus felt a kind of eye twitch and almost a migraine. "But I have to confess that I expected this level of knowledge from you Mr. Trusadale, I'm sure that soon you will get promoted in no time, keep studying."
"Yes, Doctor Crowler." Syrus sat as he didn't say anything, he felt the jab but yet he received a compliment. Well, it was his fault for forgetting his glasses, and it seems that the entire world wants him to remember why he is on the lowest rank in the school.
"Well, since we found our first Slifer student being able to answer correctly, let's see if their lucky stroke can go higher, and since you are on his side, Mr. Huffington." The professor gave a glance at the chubby student who was on the left side of the blue-haired student, which made him with his eyes wide open, and stood up from his seat."Now that we know about Field spells I want to ask about monsters now, still on basic theory. I want to know why is important to have a monster in the defense position?"
"Yes, Professor Crowler." Chumley feared something like that would happen to him, but thankfully he glanced at his friends who nodded their heads to him and gave thumbs up. Which made Chumley think about 2 seconds before starting. "Because the monster is in the defense position usually protects the duelist from receive of the damage from the attack of the monster which has attack higher than their defense, and if the said monster was in combat in attack position the difference of the points would be taken from the life points of the duelist which hade the weakest monster on the field. And some monsters had an effect as they were face down on the field, which by flipping they can either balance or turns the table over the duel, depending on which card was on the field."
As the chubby failure student started to talk, the duelists of the Slifer Red, Yellow Ra, and Obelisk blue had their eyes wide open… The student who failed 3 times actually gave a very reasonable answer for professor Crowler.
And the look of professor Crowler in front of the students, couldn't be described, since he was being pale from such an event.
"Oh my. It must be snowing in hell because this is by far the best answer a student like you must have said." Crowler smiled as he once again used his venom to hurt, as Chumley felt a bit attacked for the insult. "But that's wonderful. It seems that you are finally taking your studies seriously, and since you repeated 3 times, I hope you have learned your lesson and this time you can pass to Ra the quickest as possible. I hope this isn't a stroke of luck, so you must keep studying Huffington… But overall, this answer isn't very detailed, but yet a very reasonable and acceptable nowadays… AND WHY NOBODY IS TAKING NOTES FROM THIS?"
Professor Crowler shouted as the students jumped from their seats and decided to write the notes of what Chumley had said in the class.
"Frankly, a student like that answering well is something into 1 day a year, it must be recorded nowadays. Anyway, you can sit now Mr. Huffington. A good answer nowadays." Professor Crowler murmured as he waved to the Slifer student sitting in his place.
"Yes. Doctor Crowler." Chumley as he sat, he had mixing feelings… He felt ashamed of the way his teacher said how he view him in class, but he felt a blush on his face since it was the first time that his teacher complimented and incentives him to keep studying. Looking at Jaden, he could see Jaden was kinda annoyed by the teacher who kept talking to his friend like that, however, Syrus looked at him and gave a thumbs-up, as his mouth formed the words. "Good Job." Making himself warmer on the inside. It was good to be known as positive things. But he had a focus on his mind, and his stomach agreed with him… "For grilled cheese."
"Well, 2 of 2, just one more, and we have an academy new record on Slifer's consecutive correct answers." Professor Crowler once again provoked the Slife dorm, as he glanced around, but suddenly a student slammed both hands on his desk, making all the students jump in surprise and look at him as bored.
"Teach, I think it's best you stop trying to provoke the Slivers. You shouldn't look down on us." Jaden said as it took the attention of the teacher. "I mean, I'm a Slifer and I defeated you, and when the others are provoking us, they actually are provoking you too."
At the moment Jaden has said that all the Slifers students chuckled at his answer, as they saw professor Crowler actually biting his napkin in fury, they actually started to laugh.
Which made the other students glance at the bold Slifer student who made professor Crowler lose face not just in the duel, but in the middle of class as well.
"That's it, I will not tolerate a slacker Slifer one more second. I will do everything in my power to get him expelled." As the thought of the professor made him even more furious, the serene smiling student was with both 2 fingers forming a victory V as he placed himself as a winner.
As the first class finished, the group was ready to have the second professor over the class, and it was nobody less than the Slifer dorm representative. Professor Barner himself and his most loyal friend and the mascot of the entire Duel Academy. Pharaoh.
As he walked by and sat on the chair with his pet in his hands, the group watched him smiling sweetly at the students as he started to present himself.
"Well, some of you already know me, my name is Professor Lyman Banner. I'm a specialist in some tactics and strategies not very much known in the world of duel monsters. And some of them could be treated as non-natural…" the professor started to explain himself. "Like alchemy, it's the…"
Syrus heard a yawn from his friend who seemed both tired and bored.
"Oh look at that, it seems that staying awake late last night finally made you lose gas to continue paying attention in class." Syrus grinned as Jaden looked bored and almost sleeping.
"Oh Sy, is not that, it's just these class that sounds really boring." And suddenly he felt the glaze of the professor over them. "Oh oh."
"What?" Syrus glanced and looked at the professor who stopped smiling. "Oh efffffff."
"Syrus," Professor said, as the student got up from his seat.
"Yes, professor." Syrus knew that something was going up until he saw the sweet smile of the professor once again.
"Take pharaoh for me, please?" Professor said as Syrus suddenly started to glance around near him.
"Wait, really? Oh, where is he? Oh, there you go." Syrus looked around over the floor until he saw the feline over his leg. And taking Pharoh from the floor, he smiled as he felt a bit of the weight of the cat. "If I knew you would come here to watch the class with us. I would already bring a bit of milk."
"Meowwwww." Pharaoh sounded satisfied with the deal without Syrus noticing. And receiving a pat and a scratch on its ears, he seemed very satisfied with the student carrying him.
"There you go professor Banner." Syrus smiled as the professor nodded to him in approval.
"Very good, you can go to your seat, and please make sure Jaden stays awake until the end of class." Professor Barner pointed at the student who was with his head over the table almost sleeping.
"Professor… even I can't make miracles," Syrus said as he left to his seat.
"I will not let that Slifer Slacker make fun of me. I will show him his place." Professor Crowler smiled as he wrote a ticket of detention or even expelled for a student who could fall for such a trap made by him. Of course, that would be immoral and it would make such catastrophic repercussions if this letter falls in the wrong hands. Especially since he wrote a name of an important student like her. But risks always come with great results.
And for the final touches, he sealed the letter with a red lipstick kiss.
"Perfect."
"Lunch break finally. I thought I would starve." Syrus said as he glanced around and found that many students brought with them a bunch of bento. "What the Effffff."
Syrus purposely raised his Efff making Jaden and Chumley look at him weirdly.
"Why do you say F like that Syrus?" Jaden asked as he started eating his bento. "And where is your food?"
"In order… first, it is an internal joke you wouldn't get it. And secondly… what do you mean where is my food? I should have brought food over here?" Syrus asked in disbelief as he glanced at all the students who had Bentos on their tables, and then something crossed his mind, the animation and the tag force mini interactions in classes… leaving Syrus to sigh. "Dammit, I forgot about this… Well, I'm not the type of guy to bring food to the table. Is there a place for me to pay for the food? Like a snack machine or something?"
Chumley who was eating a curry on his bento thought for a few seconds before remembering something.
"Oh well, there is the store where they sell cards and they even had some food over there. Why not go there and buy something?" Chumley like a true friend even gave them directions to Syrus who nodded his head and leave his thanks before leaving the class.
After running a few corridors, Syrus finally managed to cross the card store. Which surprisingly looked a bit bigger in comparison to the game, and yet the layout of the place looked exactly the same, it was nostalgic.
"Wow." Syrus was so surprised and yet happy to meet that place that he kinda forgot why he was there.
"Oh, a new customer." A joyful and mature voice came from the balcony which made Syrus snaps from his thoughts and look at the woman on the balcony. A motherly smile is the same love and kind smile that she shows in the anime. "Welcome to the Academy Store. My name is Dorothy, and I welcome you to the Academy."
"Thank you very much." Syrus felt happy to meet Dorothy in person, she was a good character in the anime and he always liked to pass most parts of the Tag Force in the card store. "Am I interrupting something?"
"Oh no. We are just preparing the boosters around for customers to arrive after class, it's rare to find a student here on the lunch break, did you eat your food fast just to meet this place?" Dorothy laughed as Syrus snapped his fingers as remembered why he was there.
"Oh right, well I actually didn't bring food, and a friend of mine recommended her to buy something to eat." Syrus forgot that Yugioh was actually a Japanese franchise and while the game tag force had some cutscenes about Banner wanting to switch his lunch in the class, the culture of Japan was students bringing bento every day. And Syrus was more like a Big Mac guy, loving a hamburger.
"Oh no." Dorothy felt pale as she looked at the student who seemed starved. "You are at the right place, we have some sandwiches for the students who seemed interested to try their lucks."
As the words came to buy her mouth… Syrus remembered which sandwiches she was talking about…
"Oh no…" Syrus know really well which one was.
"We have the destiny sandwiches, where you pay for your 1 try to take the legendary golden egg." Dorothy smiled as she went to the front box of the balcony and brought many wrapped sandwiches in front of Syrus. "You can try just 1 per day, and let your luck take your destiny of the legendary egg."
"Aww… can't I just take one with a hamburger?" Syrus sighed as he asked hoping he wouldn't try to catch a bad sandwich, and by that even surprise the owner of the store.
"What? Don't you want it the legendary egg?" Dorothy asked as she looked at the boy weirdly. "Many people said that is the most delicious sandwich from the academy."
"Oh yeah, I believe them. However, I just wanted to not disappoint myself, like. I would love a chocolate sandwich or a hamburger one. I don't need much, just a good regular sandwich is good for me." Syrus wasn't the type of picky. But he remembered all the possibilities of sandwiches… They had even caviar one, who in their minds would eat a caviar sandwich?
"Well, sadly for you I cannot allow you to try to take the legendary sandwich… But I can make an exception for you… if you manage to take 3 sandwiches without egg, you can have the 3 of them, but if you open one with legendary egg and it's not in the first time…"
"I give back to you," Syrus concluded her thoughts. "I agree with you. I'm curious about the egg sandwich, but I'm more like the type who likes controlled luck instead of having one-shot luck every day. I accept the deal… How much for them?"
"50 duel points each, or 2 dollars each." Dorothy knowing how students started their first day at the academy, expected to give both prices. And receiving 6 dollars on her hands. She saw the boy smiling at her.
"Thank you so much, Miss Dorothy." Syrus paid her up and carefully looked at 3 sandwiches around and chose them calmly… As he opened the first one, he wasn't the kind of student who would bite and find out what was inside… He opened simply the sandwich and took a look. "Okay, the first one is… ham sandwich? Okay, it's fine… oh there is cheese inside as well. Oh, that's a great combo. Perfect for me."
Syrus felt satisfied to see the first sandwich. And sighed in relief…
As he opened the second sandwich, he carefully looked and found cream inside of it.
"Awesome a sweet sandwich. I hoped for chocolate, but the cream was awesome too." Syrus felt even better, and now looking at the third one he already has 2 sandwiches which he can eat fine. And opened the last one him by surprise at what was it. "Wait… fried shrimp sandwich? Isn't this one the favorite type of…"
Syrus who was talking aloud could see Dorothy listening to all his opinions about sandwiches and as he was going to say anything more, he then continued.
"Jaden, yeah, this sandwich Jaden will like a lot. Thanks for letting me buy the sandwiches, Miss Dorothy." Syrus said as he took the 3 sandwiches and was satisfied with his choices, he then looked at the clock, which seemed to be 10 minutes before the lunch break is over. "Oh, Efffffff. Gotta go now, thank you for your hospitality Miss Dorothy, but I gotta go."
As Syrus was starting to run suddenly he bumped into a girl and both of them fell to the floor.
"Oh, are you both alright?" Dorothy who was surprised by the sudden appearance of a girl, asked as both teenagers managed to get up from the floor.
"I'm fine." Syrus got up and looked at the sandwiches still wrapped and fine as well, and he looked at the girl who bumped into him. And then looked at the girl, it was not any girl, but it was the most trustful NPC on every tag force… It was Sadie, the cashier girl of the card store. She was the one who always brought strange items for Syrus at the game of Tag Force, and he always felt lucky when he tried to buy some boosters when it was on her turn on the balcony of cards. "What about you… er…"
"I'm fine. I'm sorry about bumping on you." Sadie cleaned the dust over her body, as she smiled at the boy in front of her. "Welcome to the Academy Store. My name is Sadie, and you can always buy the best cards with me around. I hope you have a nice day."
"Thank you very much. And I'm sorry as well, but I gotta go, I need to eat these fast and go to class. See yah." Syrus took his sandwiches and at full speed ran away from the store.
"He… what an interesting kid." Dorothy smiled as she smiled at the girl who nodded at her happily.
