The comfort of the bed was the only thing that the trio of Slifer students had after an exhaustive first day of class, especially after what would be the exercises of hell from the beauty teacher of the school. And yet they don't have any complaints about the day, even after the attempt by some teachers to expel one of them.
But everything that was good wouldn't last long, since a little glimpse of light appeared over the horizon and showed their dominance as they grew up from the sea. The blue-haired boy blinks before groaning.
"Ughhhh." The small student not only grunted from the pain of waking up but also felt the pain of his body being sore and ignored from the last day. The pain came back in not just full force but with a raise of 20% agony as well. "Damn you, past Syrus."
The soreness and the pain in his body were enough for the student to be unable to go back to sleep. And since he got up at the time that even he usually wakes up, he sat down and decided to continue his routine. Even if it was painful to change his clothing, 10 minutes was enough for the boy to get dressed and finally leave his room, and by looking at the view of the sunrise once again, Syrus took a deep breath and enjoyed the time to see nature once again appear over the sky.
"Alright, don't force myself too much; this tiny body needs to get used to this routine. I cannot do my exercises if I get sore every single day. Well, living and learning." Syrus decided to walk over the gym area since the time he tried to jog, his entire body went into a frenzy, and the pain in his muscles was enough to make him stop and question his decisions over the day.
Getting used to the soreness in his body, the blue-haired student managed to go exactly to the same area where he started his routine exercises the day before. Doing his best to not burn himself up into doing reckless exercises while his entire body was sore was something stupid, and he wasn't in mode to overwork himself again.
So he did what would be best to maintain by doing exercises while still feeling his body sore. Stretches were perfect for him to do in the morning. A good walk at the gym and doing stretches would be enough for him to treat those as part of his routine exercises until his body got used to his habits.
"Interesting. I didn't imagine you would come here at this hour." Suddenly, a familiar voice was enough to make the Slifer's student give a pause on his stretches and turn his body slowly to find nobody less than the same teacher who unleashed hell upon the students by doing exercises. While she still wore her professor uniform, she was holding what would be a smoothie in her hands. "You should be resting your body, since the first day of exercises was done yesterday."
"Oh, I know that. And I'm not going to do much today, just doing some stretches before preparing myself for the class today." Syrus replied to the smiling teacher, who seemed satisfied with his answer.
"Do you want some company?" Professor Fontaine asked as she offered her smoothie to the student, who raised his hand in refusal of the drink.
"I don't mind, actually. Having someone to talk to while I deal with my body being sore is a good way to distract me from the pain." The blue-haired boy commented, which made the teacher nod her head at him and approach to watch him closer. "But from what it seems, you look like you have good humor today. Did you discover who was responsible for the problems yesterday?"
"Oh…" Professor Fontaine looked surprised as she passed a few seconds in silence, but the satisfaction on her face explained that she was happy with the outcome. "I sure am. I already punished those responsible for making problems for my students. Thank you so much for the help."
Syrus smiled internally as he imagined what would have happened to the Obelisk teacher, but decided to hide his smile while he did the stretches; thankfully, the pain from his sore body was enough to disguise the smile.
"Not a problem, Professor Fontaine; I just hope that this is the last time a misunderstanding like that happens." Syrus meant all the words he said by making sure that he didn't want to get into such drama again. It was the best way to deal with such problems, and he was satisfied with nothing terrible happening with the group he met yesterday.
"I will be sure to not make this happen again, Syrus Trusdale." Professor Fontaine smiled as the boy took his time doing a few stretches. By passing 10 minutes, she was satisfied with the boy not complaining and doing anything else other than just doing the stretches. "Okay, that's enough for today. Get to the bathrooms, take a shower, and prepare yourself for the class. I will not take a class today since I recommend that the physical education be off in sequence with the day prior."
"It's for the best. Doing one day of workouts and then one day for the body to relax." Syrus knows pretty well the reason behind her recommendation, since the body needs to relax before developing itself to become stronger and used to long periods of exercise. "Thank you for your time, Professor."
"No problem. I hope you have a good day of class, Syrus." Fontaine's voice was the last thing Syrus heard before both parted ways since both had things to do over the day.
"YAWNNNNN. Ouch!" Jaden yawned as he slowly walked inside the classroom. All his excitement for the day couldn't be shown since his entire body was screaming in pain. It was indeed torture and a miracle for him to wake up and, with his big friend, slowly walk to the classroom. "Another day of class, but man, yesterday was a blast."
"Tell me about it. Ugh." Chumley was doing his best not to run, but even walking slowly made his entire muscles give him a punishment for not listening to his own body. "I still don't know why we should have class after we overwork ourselves too much. I think we should have a day off."
"I wouldn't mind taking a day to snooze for a bit." Jaden agreed with his friend as the duo finally managed to see a familiar blue-haired boy who was sitting on his place like nothing happened. "Hey Syrus, what's up?"
Syrus turned his head and saw the duo, who seemed to have seen better days.
"Yo, I'm surprised that you both managed to appear in the class today." Syrus commented, which, by looking at the entire group of students who seemed to be laying their heads over the balcony and doing everything they could not move, was a good reason. "Most of the students from Ra and Slifer dorms are still feeling sore after the exercises from yesterday."
Jaden and Chumley watched the group of students who seemed to have all their spirits left in their bodies—not just the yellow and red students, but even the Blue Obelisk students seemed to act like a bunch of zombies.
"Well, I can see the Slifers and Ras like that, but why do the Obelisks seem to be in a worse state than us?" Chumley decided to ask after sitting on his seat; his body never felt so pleased with finding somewhere to rest his big body.
Jaden got the time to lay his body over the counter, as he himself felt so happy to finally have some sleep before class.
Syrus simply shrugged but winced after doing it.
"Who knows? Most of them didn't seem to have done a workout like yesterday, and they seemed to not have slept like hours." Syrus said as his own body winced in painful movements, but he relaxed himself and didn't make any hasty movements.
"Oh, didn't you guys hear it?" Suddenly a voice came from behind the group, which made the trio turn their heads at the still-sore Slifer student with his dark red hairstule.
"Oh, hey Hiro, nice to see you again." Jaden greeted the student he met on the first day of class. Which received a nod from the said duelist. "Hear about what?"
"From what I heard today, there was a huckus last night; they said someone kept screaming in pain while shouting forgiveness to some girl who decided to beat the crap out of him." The same dorm roommate shrugged while he could see that some of the Obelisk students were actually trying to sleep in the class.
"Hu…" Syrus raised his eyebrow, which made him understand what could possibly have happened. Suddenly, he felt cold sweat pass on his back. Okay, note to self, never make Professor Fontaine peeved."
"Damn, whatever it was today will be difficult for most students. Since yesterday was brutal, Jaden said so loudly while the group of boys around him looked at each other and couldn't help but nod in agreement.
"Hey boys." Suddenly, the familiar voice from yesterday coming from nearby was enough to attract the attention of the trio of girls, who seemed to be walking slowly, as even they couldn't avoid the fact that their bodies got sore from all the exercises the day prior.
"Hey Lex, what's it going?" Jaden smiled while Syrus smiled at the trio, and Chumley waved at them.
"Good morning." Chumley was greeted politely while the trio smiled at him and looked at the blue-haired boy.
"Yo, morning. How are you all feeling today?" Syrus couldn't help but ask, and from the smiling and giggles coming from the trio, it seems that they couldn't be happier.
"Well, taking off the soreness, Professor Fontaine found the culprit over the chaos he caused yesterday, and she gave a good talk to him, telling him that the next time there will be consequences." Alexis giggled, and the duo behind her couldn't help but continue.
"She talked loudly." Mindy smiled as Jasmine had the biggest grin of her life.
"With her punches. From what she told us, she made him an example to show what happens when someone uses one of us as a scapegoat to break the rules of the academy." Jasmine was feeling vindicated for her friend Alexis and the boys who just got into that mess, not because of her but because of someone who did it behind the scenes, so she was feeling happy to see the one who did suffer.
The group of boys, which was at least 5 Slifers and 3 Ras over their seats, gulped into hearing how that lovely and beautiful girl had caused such suffering to the one who messed with Alexis. The Obelisks students felt a shriveling and pall from hearing the trio say happily.
Chumley gulped, while Jaden looked confused, not knowing why the teacher had to beat someone on the last day. Syrus couldn't help but feel satisfied with the outcomes.
"Well, it seems that we don't need to worry much about that." Syrus felt cathartic after seeing that their Obelisk teacher learned the consequences of his actions. And even if their bodies felt sore from the physical education from last day, he couldn't help but see how Crowler would do his class today after receiving a beat from Professor Fontaine.
"Indeed," Alexis said as she walked a few chairs, giving a slight pause. Noticing that there was a counter on the opposite side of her friends, she decided to walk to the place, followed by the duo.
That move made the group of Slifer students stare at Alexis with wide eyes open.
Since the trio sat on their respective chairs, even being on the opposite side of the Obelisk students, she decided to sit nearby with her newest friends. And placed her notebook and case to prepare herself for the class.
While most of the students seemed to be unable to process what happened, Syrus, Jaden, and Chumley seemed to keep talking about their projects like nothing had happened.
"So I was doing my stretches this morning." Syrus replied, which made Jaden and Chumley look at his friend like they were staring at a monster.
"How did you manage that? Just for walking, I felt every fiber of my body want to cry. Doing exercises yesterday was the worst mistake of my life." Chumley shrived after dealing with running laps and a volleyball game, and just seeing his friend tell him that he was doing stretches made his entire body shrive in pain.
"Oh, come on, I felt a lot of pain, but that doesn't mean I should make my body unable to move. Doing stretches always helps to make the body able to keep moving after a long and tiring day of workouts. That's also why you should always keep drinking water too." Syrus replied as he took a bottle of water with him and offered it to Jaden, who just shrugged and accepted.
"Thanks Sy." Jaden, like always, didn't think twice and decided to drink from the bottle offered to him, as his friends always do. He was still staring at his friend, who seemed to be comfortable doing workouts. "You seemed to be really comfortable doing workouts."
"Like I said, I like working out; it makes my body warm and my mind fresh. I have a routine and exercises; it's a good hobby for me." Syrus shrugged as Jaden chuckled.
"Yeah, my hobbies are dueling and napping, the greatest of the two worlds." Jaden replied, making Syrus roll his eyes while he smiled.
"Yeah, I noticed it. So how did you feel for the first tie of the academy?" Syrus asked, which made the trio of girls on their side stare in their direction.
Oh, come on, Syrus, I will win next time. If it weren't for that trap, I could have destroyed her monster, and on the next turn, my Thunder Giant would have... Jaden was talking with confidence when suddenly he heard the trio of girls giggling on the counter next to them.
Jaden and Chumley stared at the trio, who were giggling and noticing they were being seen by the duelist.
"Oh no, keep going, keep going. I want to see how this will go." Alexis smiled while Jasmine was grinning by holding her laugh, and Mindy was shredding tears while keeping on giggling at her place.
"Yeah, let's see how far he can go doing his thing." Syrus was amused, making Jaden notice there was something wrong with what he just said.
"What do you mean, guys? It would have been a good attack at Alexis' monster and the next turn." Jaden couldn't comprehend what the problem was until he was interrupted.
"He would have been banished." Syrus decided to cut his friend, which made the entire vinyl sound scratch Jaden's mind. "D.D. warrior lady's effect makes her banished by the monster who attacked her. Meaning that you would have lost Giant Thunder at the moment he destroyed her in the battle phase.
"Uhhhhhh." Jaden, who was so confident, couldn't find words to describe what would have happened, and he was so assured of his victory that he didn't imagine that he would have lost one of his ace monsters so easily like that.
"Yeah, I just didn't imagine that you didn't use the effect of Thunder's Giant again; that way, you could have a good chance for a direct attack on Alexis and end the duel." Syrus said in amusement, but the tone of voice of his best friend somehow made Jaden even worse, and then faceslamming at the desk made the group jump in surprise. "Jaden, what happened?"
The trio of girls laughed from their seats while Syrus and Chumley tried to help Jaden, who went back to his place and looked sheepishly.
"Well, I think you got me, Lex. Damn, I should have paid more attention to that." Jaden scratched his head while feeling a bit stupid. "But wow, Syrus, you noticed everything by just watching the duel?"
"Yeah, Syrus, I thought everything was neat in the duel, and yet your explanations made me look at the duel with more caution; I mean, Cyber Blader was far too scary to me. 5700 Attack freaked me out." Chumley, after learning the effect of Alexis' ace monster, gulped just to imagine such a powerful monster existed on the field.
The duo Mindy and Jasmine felt proud of her friend, who managed to make one of the students afraid from such a view.
"Yeah, that's our Alexis; she would have won against you so easily if it weren't for the fact that she messed up in one of her turns." Mindy smiled proudly at her friend, which made Alexis and Jasmine stop laughing and look at her in outrage.
"MINDY." Both Jasmine and Alexis shouted while her friend tilted her head toward him.
"What? You said that if it weren't for the fact that you summoned Cyber Skater instead of Princess Tsururgi on that turn and fused Etoile Cyber to make Cyber Blader on the next turn, you could drop that slacker life point to zero.
"Yeah, but she didn't want you to tell the boys about that." Jasmine hissed angrily at her friend, who just didn't get the reason for the sudden hiss from her friends.
"Oh… whoops?" Mindy scratched the back of her head sheepishly.
"Hmm." Syrus remained quiet as he gave a glance to the female students, who seemed to be sheepishly looking at him. "So you summoned the wrong monster, then?"
Alexis seeing the blue-haired boy staring at her unamused was enough to make her sigh and admit defeat.
"After you called me out after summoning Cyber Skater, it made me realize that I had Princess Tsurugi in my hands; if I had played with the right timing, the duel would have ended faster." Alexis admitted she made a mistake, and she wouldn't have realized if it weren't for the Slifer student who just asked her actions on her turn.
"So you had hands on that time?" Syrus asked while he stared at Jaden, who suddenly felt like he was like a kicking puppy. "Come on, Jaden; you both went fine. Mistakes happen, and possibly both of you would have lost in different ways if you both had chosen different cards."
"Oh. Come on, Syrus. I was pretty neat in my duel yesterday. I'm sure I didn't make any mistakes." Jaden mumbled at his friend, who had just raised his eyebrow at him.
"Kishido Spirit Jaden." Syrus replied with three simple words, which made the boy close his mouth. "From all the cards you could have used, I never thought you would have used one of the most stupid ones... You remind me of one thing. Alexis, that bluff was perfect; you managed to make Jaden fall for your trap without even using a card. You nailed it."
"Hehehe, it was the minimum I should have done." Alexis gave a thumbs up as she smiled at the duelist, who just gave a pout and a piercing glare.
Wait, so you just lied to me to attack your monster?" Jaden realized that he was being played from the moment he remembered the duel; he saw the Obelisk duelist shaking her head.
"No, I just told you that our two monsters had the same attack point, which would lead to the destruction of both... What I didn't say was the special effect of my monster." Alexis grinned as Jaden slammed his face once again on the counter, which made both Syrus and Chumley stare at each other.
"Well, if I had used my Thunder Giant's effect on the last turn, I would have won the duel." Jaden sighed as he looked at his friend with hope in his eyes. "Right?"
Syrus remained quiet, thinking with his finger over his chin while mumbling. He then gave him a grin and nodded his head.
"Nice, a tie isn't that bad; at least I have a chance next time. You will see Lex. I'm going to defeat you easily. Maybe if I had more monsters, I could have done differently." Jaden showed his optimism once again while Alexis rolled her eyes and shook her head while remaining smiling.
But Syrus raised his eyebrow at his friend and couldn't help but ask.
"What do you mean have more monsters?" Syrus asked as Jaden took his deck from his pocket and placed it in front of him.
Syrus took his deck and gave it a glance as he placed some cards.
1X Avian
1X Burstinatrix
1X Bubble Man
1X Clayman
1X Sparkman
1X BladeEgde
1x Wroughtweiler
1x Necroshade
1x Winged Kuriboh

"What the? You just have 1, 2, 3, 4,...9? WHAT THE. You just have nine monsters in total." Syrus couldn't help but shout in disbelief. Making the entire group stare at the prodigy duelist, who scratched his head. "You have nine monsters, and the rest of the deck is spell and trap cards."
"Yeah, hehe. I don't know why, but this deck has been helpful to me since I was a kid. And all the spells and trap cards always helped me in specific moments. So for me, if it works, don't fix it." Jaden laughed, but he didn't notice that his friends' eyes were twitching in anger at him. "All my magic spells and traps always helped me to use the right card at the right moment."
"Err… Syrus?" Chumley, on the other hand, could see that his friend was holding himself; he doesn't know why, but it seems that the little guy had the desire to strangle Jaden.
"So that's why he never showed two Avians or two of any kind of the same elemental hero monster from his deck... He simply has nine monsters in total from a whole deck of 40 cards. THIS IS MAIN CHARACTER PLOT ARMOR BULLCRAP." Syrus, as his own inner duelist, was shouting curses after seeing firsthand something he never thought he would even imagine. Jaden is one of the best duelist trios in generations. nailed the first season of GX by using simply nine cards of monsters and fusions to save his ass during the whole anime.
"Syrus, are you alright?" Alexis could see that the expression on the little boy was nothing but pretty. She could see clearly that the little boy was fuming.
"At least he has 10 different fusion monsters to deal with this. Now, Alexis, I want to see your deck too." Syrus simply replied, which made the female duelist gulp because, from the tone of his voice, it wasn't a request.
"Right here." Alexis usually would have asked why, but seeing that Jaden managed to anger the little boy so much, she may use that as an opportunity to see what she could have done better in a duel.
"Nice deck, isn't it, Sy?" Jaden, who was ready to take his deck again, suddenly looked at the face of his friend, who was frowning so much and piercing him with his glare that he couldn't help but gulp.
Syrus finished to look at the deck of Alexis, and he couldn't help but expect and yet be disappointed with what he just saw. The deck, while trying to be balanced, lacked so much as well. It had potential, but it could have been a lot better.
"Okay, you both... Here is what is going to happen." Syrus gave each deck to each of them while he seriously commented, which caught the attention of both. "Since we are at the academy and there is a card shop around here, after class, we are going to buy more cards. Even if we had to duel hours to have the good among the points for that,"
Jaden smiled excitedly, while Alexis looked surprised by the statement.
"Even me?" Alexis asked surprised, but seeing that Syrus frown, he didn't seem to be kidding with her.
"Don't you want a rematch? I wouldn't waste my opportunity like that, Alexis, because you both had some things you must think about in your strategy, and you, Jaden, you are so lucky to always have the right monster that doesn't even brick at the first turn." Syrus pointed to both of them while voicing his irritation over what they had done to him on the last day.
"Brick?" Both Jaden and Alexis asked without understanding the meaning of his words. Making the blue-haired duelist facepalm.
"Forget it. Later, I will explain." Syrus wasn't in mode to explain one of his duel slang and decided to focus on the class since it was minutes before class started. "After class, we have a lot to prepare."
Before the group could even ask about more, a teacher dressed in the Ra Yellow uniform finally appeared in the class, making the entire group of students move their heads and look directly at the person who just came in that morning.
His appearance looked like that of an Asian man in his 50s, and as his black hair was losing its shine, the hairstyle he was using would describe a helmet in place of hair over his head. And over his face, there were two triangles, which would describe his mustache.
That person was wearing nothing more than the yellow tunic and uniform of the Ra Yellow dormitory. Under his uniform, there was a social shirt and a tie around his neck. But over his pants, there was a humiliating detail that the teacher must have forgotten to check before appearing in the classroom.
Everything came to describe the appearance of the teacher, and the students looked so curious to know about it. Some in the front row stared at the teacher and glanced at each other, smirking at the teacher, who seemed oblivious to their reaction.
"Good morning, class." The teacher happily walked towards the class in his happy tone. "I am Professor Sartyr, and firstly, I would like to congratulate every single one of you for being accepted into this dueling academy. I hope you all have enjoyed your first day of class, because since we started, I want to talk about myself and the class we are going to have today."
The students from the behind class remained silent while they looked to him in boredom at the teacher, but for some reason, a few students in the front row were doing their best to hold their laughs.
"I'm the head teacher of the Ra Yellow dormitory, and my specialty is to teach you all not just how to cook but card design as well." The professor happily described himself, which made many of the first-year students' eyes sparkle, especially one from the red Slifer dorm.
"Hold on, he teaches culinary too?" Syrus asked himself in surprise, never imagining something not related to duels being taught over at the academy. "That's actually interesting; why didn't they show that in the anime?"
The murmurs of the students were enough to make the humble and yet happy teacher nod in satisfaction after taking the attention of the students in the class.
"As a card designer, you must understand the concept of everything around the art. From the colors, from the appearance, but from the background of the image as well. Many cards were designed not just to be attractive but to bring the joy of each duelist after taking them out of their boosters." Professor Sartyr described the simple concepts of the reason and the importance of the design of the cards. "Since it's the first day, I would like to give you all the opportunity to write your questions about the field of card design, and in the next class, I will be happy to help answer all your doubts."
Syrus looked at the teacher, and that simple detail is bugging me.
"Should I tell him? Because it would be pretty humiliating to say it in front of the class." Syrus mentally debated as he tried to find the right words.
"errr...professor? I have a question." One female student from the Obelisk dorm tried to be polite enough to call the teacher.
"Oh Stephany, you need to speak louder than that." Professor Sartyr said that he didn't notice that the girl was still blushing and trying to avoid eye contact with him.
"But I don't want to." The female student mumbled as she still felt that her face showed nothing more than wishing that she didn't want to be there in the first place.
Professor Sartyr may not have heard what she had said to him, so he then glanced around at the entire class and said it with determination and pride. "If you have a question, I want you to speak up loud!"
Syrus, looking at the entire group in silence, decided to act.
"Ah, screw it. PROFESSOR SARTYR!" Syrus shouted, bringing the attention of the Ra head teacher, who beamed at the little blue-haired boy.
"That was nice and loud! What is it, Syrus?" The teacher smiled in the direction of the Slifer group.
Syrus didn't know how the teacher knew his name but decided to ignore the fact and say directly one thing that the entire front row of the class had in mind.
"YOUR ZIPPER IS OPEN!" Syrus called, which made the other rows of students stop their tracks and look directly at the Ra head teacher.
The professor's eye went wide open as he remained silent. Turning his back to the class and quick with his hands, he corrected the mistake that he must have made before class. Then, turning around, he looked at the front row, who seemed to be snickering, while some of the students gave a sigh of relief at not having to endure that desire to speak up to him.
"You didn't need to speak up loud that time." Professor Sartyr said while his face blushed. Which made the Slifer student shrug at him as a response.
"Okay…" Syrus simply answered, and not before a second later, something flickered in his mind. "Hmm... why do I have a feeling of deja vu over here? Well, whatever."
"Well, continuing. I want the class to bring their sketching books because now we are going to start our first practical sketches. For the first day of class, I will not ask for a difficult task. Choose one card from your entire deck. And try to replicate it in 5 minutes." Professor Sartyr decided to give a good warming-up exercise, which brought the entire class into confusion.
"What? 5 minutes to draw? Some of the details of the card would take hours to accomplish." One Obelisk student called attention, which made the entire classroom agree with him. unless one.
"5 minutes to warm up, before going to a 10 minute draw, and then a 30 minute drawing." Chumley mumbled to himself, which brought the attention of his two friends, who listened to what the Australian student understood from the challenge.
"Oh? So this is your first time hearing that, Edmond? Well, the 5 minutes are used to make your mind warm up to the idea of drawing something using the quickest details as possible. Later, I will ask you to do the same drawing again, but this time with 10 minutes, making your entire mind work more comfortably with the double of the time." Professor Sartyr was happy to see that it was the first time the students had ever heard of the basics of drawing exercises, which made him more eager to teach them. "And then I will ask you all to use 30 minutes to redraw the same card again, making your entire mind and hands have more time to actually learn firsthand what happens when you practice with this exercise."
The entire class remained quiet as they finally understood the purpose of the warming-up exercises. Then the entire group of students followed the instructions of the head teacher from the yellow dorm and decided to prepare themselves.
"Everyone, please take your DPAs and use the timer icon around the clock, and in my mark, you can press the button to start your exercise... Ready? Go." Professor Sartyr instructed every single one of the students, which took their time to learn to use the icon and yet do a quick draw as fast as they could.
"And you all can stop." Professor Sartyr smiled as the group of students dropped their pencils as they finally finished their final drawing over the exercises, which made many of them groan and let out a sigh of relief they hadn't imagined they had in the first place. "Now that you all finished the 30-minute drawing, I want you all to sign your name; I will take all the drawings and make sure to understand every single one of you as not just an artist but as a duelist as well."
Looking at his own drawing, Syrus couldn't help but be satisfied with his own work. He wasn't very talented with drawing, but he enjoyed doing a few sketches to pass the time. The warm-up was enough to make him do the simplest version of Twin-Barrel Dragon and using his time with wisdom, he managed to make more details on the 10-minute exercise, but with some mistakes. But the final exercise made him correct all the mistakes and give even more details that he didn't know he had during all that time.
Giving the art to Professor Sartyr along with the other students was enough to hear the bell ring from the class, and the next class would finally happen.
"Well, class. I will be out of my way. I wish you guys a nice class." Professor Sartyr was already prepared to leave the class when suddenly an unexpected visitor appeared at the door, which made the teacher stop in his tracks. The scarlet uniform, along with his simple smile and baldness over his head "Chancellor Sheppard? What brings you to this class?"
"Good morning, Professor Sartyr. Don't mind me; I'm here actually to give notice to everyone in the class." The smiling chancellor passed by the Ra head teacher and walked towards her in the middle of the stage. "Good morning, class. I have the misfortune to tell you all that Professor Crowler is unable to give his presence today since last night he had the misfortune to fall down the stairs and managed to dislocate both his shoulders and possibly have black eyes after hitting his head on the floor repetitively. That's what he has told me."
The explanation coming from the Chancellor himself sounded too absurd to be true. While Syrus bit his lips to not let out a laugh, and he stared at the trio of girls nearby, he could see they were giggling at the misfortune of the poor teacher who made a stupid decision on the last day.
"Whaaaaaaat?" The whole class, who didn't know the events of the last day, asked aloud. They looked in disbelief at first, but the solemn look from the Chancellor was enough to make them remain quiet in their places.
"I know that this may be shocking for you all. And today was specially designed to have Professor Crowler give the rest of the class until the end. But since his absence and since Professor Banner is giving a class in the second year, I'm here to give you all the recess for the rest of the day." The cheerful Chancellor chuckled as he heard the excitement of the class, ready to get out of the class and enjoy their day off after the first period. "So I hope you all enjoy the nice day at school and prepare yourselves for tomorrow since I want you all to be on your best behavior and try to learn as much as you can at this academy. Now then, have a nice day."
The effect happened immediately, since the entire class forgot their sore bodies, quickly grabbed their materials, and ran away from the class by cheering to have freedom on the second day of class.
Well, I have to say, I wasn't expecting this." Syrus admitted as he looked at the group of girls who seemed as surprised as him.
"Yeah, for someone falling down the stairs like that, it must have been the worst impact he ever had." Jaden showed his concern as he took his backup and was ready to get out of the class. "I'm glad that we are going to have a day off; this means more duels for us, right?"
Syrus saw the eager friend who was ready to pass the entire day dueling, and since he himself was outraged to see the most plot armor deck created in life, he was a spat in the duelists from the entire world he lived in before. He needed to vent his stress.
"Oh, hello, it's been a while, young man; I didn't know it was lunch break already," Sadie commented as she saw the group of students approaching her balcony. "And it seems that you brought your friends with you."
"Hey Sadie," Syrus called after looking at the collection of cards over the glass. "Professor Crowler seems to have had an accident, and now we are in recovery."
"Oh, that's awful... anyway." Sadie feigned concern, just to shrug off as she glanced at the group of boys and girls behind the blue-haired boy. "What is going to be today? We have boosters, packs, and especially structural decks."
"Really? That's awesome; can we see it?" Jaden appeared beside and went to see the cards appearing on the place, showing what would be good choices for him to decide where to start. "Man, that looks sweet."
"Interesting, so you even sell structural decks too?" Syrus raised his eyebrow by learning more than he expected from the show he watched as a kid.
"What kind of card store would we be if we didn't? Well, what do you guys want for today?" Sallie scoffed as she looked at the girls approaching the glass to see the cards around the store. "We have booster packs, which have a value of 100, 150, 500 dueling points each; full packs, which have a value of 2000 points, 3500 points each; and we have structural decks, which have the same value of 5000 dueling points each, or 12 dollars per structural deck."
"That's actually a reasonable price. I think I have 1700 dueling points; can I see those boosters?" Alexis pointed at the boosters, which showed nothing more than the colors of yellow, red, blue, silver, black, and dark green boosters with the logo of the Academy on them.
"These are the standard booster packs: the common ones are the dark green ones, which have 100 dueling points each; the rare ones are the blue ones, which have a value of 150 dueling points; the red ones are Rare Booster #2, which has 200 dueling points each; the yellow ones are the Super Rare boosters, which have 300 dueling points each; and the black ones are the Ultra Rare boosters, which have 700 dueling points. And finally, the silver is the Secret Rare Booster, for which there are 1500 dueling points." Sadie explained the concept of the boosters to the group that kept listening close to the counter. "Bear in mind that these boosters aren't guaranteed value of cards, but the higher the chances to drag, the greater the rarity of the bought one. For example, Super Rare boosters have a 60% chance to actually drag a Super Rare card from the 5 cards in the booster."
"So that means that by buying more boosters, we have better chances to have better cards, but the cards aren't focused on the archetypes we want?" Syrus asked, having mixed feelings. While the concept of buying more expensive cards is tempting, just to grind a lot of dueling points, just to have a chance to open a pack that isn't even your archetype to find? "That would be almost impossible to have cards of our archetypes."
"Most people think so, but I have seen the opposite, actually." Sadie dismissed his worries like she already guessed his disbelief. "The academy wants to all focus on improving yourselves to become a great duelist for the future. So they want you all to keep dueling and keep trying to use your luck and pull out great cards to help your decks. And if you guys want, we can order from another card store a specific card that is available when it comes to common or even rare cards. It will be more expensive, but you will have the card you want."
Actually, that reassures me. So what are you guys having?" Syrus decided to turn his back to see Chumley and Jaden, but they seemed to be on the opposite side of the cardstore, which made him stare at the trio of girls who giggled at his friends, leaving him alone. Seeing that his friends bailed him out, he let out a disappointed sigh. "That's my life."
"Oh, don't worry about it, Syrus; friends are for this reason. Anyway, I have to agree with you. The idea of ordering specific cards to help the archetypes can be pretty useful for us. So are you going to buy a booster, Sy?" Alexis said as she examined closer the option of boosters, which are on the counter.
"Nah, I'm fine. I have three decks that are focused on testing the abilities of my opponents. I'm glad with what I have at the moment. But when I have a lot more dueling points, I will be glad to use it." Syrus shrugged as he walked towards the sandwich sections. "Hey Sadie, I'm going to take three sandwiches."
"150 dueling points, and if you find the golden egg sandwich, you must return it to us," Sadie said as she used her register.
"Okay." Syrus took three random sandwiches and placed them over the counter, and with just a few codes on his PDA, 150 dueling points were extracted from his account. Opening the three, he received one cream sandwich, one hamburger, and one fried shrimp sandwich. "Hu, neat."
"Thank you for your purchase." Sadie smiled as she checked the sandwiches.
"What? Why did you buy these sandwiches?" Jasmine, who watched the Slifer student bring the sandwiches, couldn't help but ask.
"Oh, they are just for me; I don't bring my lunch to the class, so I think having a meal of these sandwiches will help me to be fed the entire day." Syrus offered a bite to the Obelisk student, who reflexively nodded as he tore apart the hamburger and, using the napkin, gave the sandwich to her.
"Thanks." Jasmine accepted as she munched the not-so-mysterious sandwich while she stared at both Alexis and Mindy with their eyebrows at her. "What? I'm hungry too."
"Well, anyway. I didn't know we could do that." Alexis said he was amused, which made Mind grab three sandwiches and pay the attendant at the card store as well.
"They allowed me to do that since I never like to bring food to class, so having this as an option is a good way to start my day. But you must know that the golden egg rule only works if you buy one sandwich per day. So you better have it on the first try. Or if you do not, you must return the egg sandwich." Syrus instructed the girl, who pouted and gave puppy eyes. "I didn't follow the rules. Sorry."
Alexis giggled at the interaction of the trio, who just wanted to eat at that moment.
"Okay girls, enjoy your food while I'm going to buy some packs. Good morning." Alexis politely waved at the attendee.
"Good morning. What are you going to have today?" Sadie smiled as she brought the boosters over the counter and left the blonde duelist already with a made-up mind.
"I would like to buy 3 common booster packs, 2 rare booster packs, and 2 rare#2 booster packs." Alexis chose the colors dark green, blue, and red. Which made Sadie smile and give up the quantity she wanted.
"Alright, it will be 1000 DP." Sadie used her register after receiving a payment from Alexis PDA. "I wish you good luck with your opening."
"Thanks." Alexis smiled. Seeing her friends staring at her expectantly "I will open when I get into the class. I want to elaborate on these cards will help make my deck stronger."
"Well, here would be the best place to open, but suit yourself." Syrus shrugged. He would be curious to see what cards Alexis would open, but seeing that she wanted to develop her strategy and she didn't want Syrus to see which cards she had, it would be useless to try to force her. So he just shrugged it off.
The girls nodded their heads in agreement with what the blue-haired boy was thinking, but suddenly a shout was enough to draw their attention.
"Wow, Syrus, look at this, the Hero Rising. I think it's related to the elemental hero; I think I know what will be the first thing I buy right now." Jaden pointed at the box containing what would be a picture of a flame man doing a hero pose, which made the Slifer student blink his eyes.
"Seriously? I never knew you had the Hero Rising structural. That's actually neat." Syrus looked at the smiling attendant, who just shrugged at her place.
"Most students usually don't like to buy structural decks, and they focus most on the booster packs and have better cards. I never asked why Dorothy would keep buying structural decks." Sadie commented as the boys and girls admired the boxes on the stands, which made some of them look at her in contempt.
"Really? Wow, just wow." Syrus commented as he glanced nearby. The trio of girls were talking between them while Jaden was already taking something from his pocket and placing it over the glass. "You decided to have a structural deck, Jay?"
"You can bet on it. Hey Sadie, I would like the structural Hero Rising right now. I want to see which cards in this deck will help me develop my neat strategy." Jaden took the time and placed what would be 12 dollars on the glass, to which the vendor nodded before bringing the red structure that he had wished so much. "Alright, now let's see what I have here."
"And what about you, Chumley? Are you interested in some boosters to help your deck?" Syrus asked as he noticed that his big friend was actually acting more shy than the others.
"Actually, I don't have many dueling points at the moment; since most of the time I just got owned by other students, I lost the desire to duel for a while," Chumley said as he blushed sheepishly.
"Oh, that's fine. Chumley, how long did you stop? 2 weeks?" Syrus asked as he understood how one of the students who never passed the first year felt. So he thought that someone who is a student in academia without dueling for 2 weeks would have enough time.
"Well, 3 months." Chumley shamelessly admitted it as Syrus' eyes went wide open, and Jaden stopped checking his own deck just to stare at his friend in shock.
"3 MONTHS? ARE YOU CRAZY?" Jaden and Syrus, like a duo, shouted at the chubby student, who still felt shame for actually bringing it up.
"Oh no, not this time. Mr. Huffington, you may have lost a lot of time in your time here, but as your roommate, me and Jaden will bring you to a new shape. And get ready, because we are going to make you sweat and think of strategies that you never thought of before." Syrus said this in resolution. Seeing someone like their roommate without even having the desire to duel for so long would bring the duo a new resolution in their minds. "Remember why we are fighting and what you are fighting for. For the grilled cheese."
"Yeah, for grilled cheese. Alright, I know that this is going to stink. But I need a lot of dueling points. So I'm ready to duel with you guys." Chumley's stomach was loud enough to make their friends think, and it was enough to make him have a new fire in his eyes.
"THAT'S THE SPIRIT." Jaden shouted as he hugged both the blue-haired and the chubby duelist. "With us three together, we will be the best Slifer duelists to go to the top; the next step is Ra Dorm, and then Obelisks. Now guys, check this out."
Jaden gave his friends the structural deck for them to check, and their eyes raised as their smiles could be seen as well.

The cards appearing on the structural deck were enough to make Jaden's eyes sparkle after he met a new group of four new heroes in his hands, and two of these heroes came with three cards each. Which will help him make a better deck with more monsters.
"Alright, after checking this, I have to say, NEAT. I got very awesome decks. I have to say, this semester will be awesome." Jaden smiled as he scratched his nose in pride.
"You took words from my mouth, Jaden. Let's prepare your deck right away." Syrus gave a glance at the door. As his own mind wondered what was going to happen the rest of the day.
