Hangover

You leapt out of bed at the first wave of nausea. Your head was shrieking. Your vision was fogged. You staggered everywhere. It was a miracle how you made it to the toilet in time.

You collapsed to your knees and let it all out in one big retch, leaving behind a disgusting acidic alcoholic taste in your mouth.

You'd never been this hungover before. Did you really drink that much last night?

A second wave of vomit gave you the answer. Your entire body trembled, your heart racing, your eyes and nose running. You felt so sluggish and dizzy. You only just felt the two soft hands tracing back either side of your head, stroking back your hair.

"Tho-" You were cut off by a third retch- this one was the worst. You actually gurgled on it- for a moment you thought your guts would end up in the toilet too.

"Oh my-" And then a fourth round. Thoma sat over you, holding your hair back, waiting patiently until you were finished. You spluttered and sniffed, taking a moment to catch your breath. Your eyes were leaking, mostly from the sickness, but also a bit of embarrassment.

"You feel better?"

You moaned. Your stomach finally felt empty, but you still felt so weak, and your head and chest were throbbing. You barely had enough strength to reach out and flush the toilet. You couldn't even stand back up- Thoma had to help raise you to your feet. You moaned again out of protest.

"Don't worry. I've got you."

"I'm so sorry-"

"It's okay." He squeezed your hand and patted your side. "Can you remember anything?"

You wish you could say yes. But your head screamed every time you tried to think back. All you could do was shake your head with a sniff.

"Okay." He scooped you up in his arms and carried you back to bed. You wrapped your arms around him and dug your face into his neck. You felt so lucky to have someone so kind and so understanding . . . it was almost kind of sad.

Thoma lay you in bed and tucked you in. He brushed the hair out of your face and planted kisses all over it- all with a loving smile.

"You stay in bed for as long as you want. I'll take care of you."

"But won't you-"

"Shhhh . . . Don't you worry about me, m'love. You get the rest you need."

Your eyes began to well up. "I don't want to put you through any more trouble."

"Aww." For some reason, Thoma beamed down at you and nuzzled his face off of yours.

"You're not putting me through any trouble. I want to look after you until you're all better." He squeezed your cheek and kissed your forehead. You couldn't help but smirk at how adorably corny he was being. He smiled wider on purpose and chuckled to try and make your smirk grow a little. It was impossible to stop it spreading across your face.

"Now," Thoma smiled, giving you one last peck. "How about some breakfast? Would you like that, princess?"

You melted at the pet name. You'd almost forgotten how hungry you are. You were amazed you had any appetite at all, given how sick you felt. Though it made sense considering how you'd just emptied your entire stomach contents into the toilet.

"Yes please . . ." You went to stand, but felt a sting in your head and another wave of dizziness. You immediately collapsed back down. Thoma caught you by the shoulders before you could hit your head off the headboard.

"Lie down, m'love." He slid a hand around your head, and carefully lowered you down on the pillows. You sniffed as he tucked you back in and poured you a glass of water from the jug last night. It reminded you how dry your mouth was.

"Thoma, just make me a small breakfast."

"You don't think you can handle a big one?"

"No, it's just-" You sniffed as you reached out for the water. You couldn't reach the glass so of course Thoma handed it to you.

"You need to take it easy too! Please . . ." You gazed up at him with puppy dog eyes. "Take a rest with me."

"M'love, I won't be able to rest until I know you're better."

You sighed as you sipped on your water. If you hadn't gotten so stupidly smashed last night, you wouldn't be putting Thoma through all this trouble. It looked like he wasn't going to back down on caring for you either. The best you could do was accept his help to try and make his life easier.

"Okay . . . But please make me an easy breakfast."

Not only did he make you a cooked breakfast from scratch, but he made you your favourite breakfast, squeezed you orange juice and brewed a pot of green tea sweetened to how you liked it.

"Thoma . . ." you whined as he placed the tray on your lap. He'd even gone to the effort of presenting it beautifully for you. "You didn't have to."

"Anything for my favourite girl." Your boyfriend beamed and sat down opposite you with his own plate of food. "Let's eat up, shall we?"

At least he was eating with you. You sighed and tucked in, sad to ruin the lovely presentation. Of course the food was delicious- it was Thoma's cooking after all. As the food warmed up your shaky body, you attempted to think back to last night. But even if your head didn't sting, it was like there was a barrier in there, blocking you from accessing your own memories.

So you decided to brave asking your boyfriend.

"Did I do anything weird last night?"

Thoma paused chewing his food. He took a moment to process his thoughts before swallowing back.

"I had a feeling you were gonna ask me that."

"So . . ." You gulped. "What did I do?"

"Um . . ." Thoma glanced up, chuckling awkwardly. You knew he would never lie, but he was struggling to find a way to put it without potentially embarrassing you.

"I-" Your heart dropped. "I didn't put you through any trouble, did I?"

"Huh? N- no, not at all!" Thoma's voice cracked. He really was the worst liar.

"How did we get home?"

"I, uh . . . I gave you a lift . . ."

Your hands holding your cutlery drooped. "So you carried me."

"I had to, m'love. You couldn't stand. And . . . you didn't really know where you were."

Your sinking eyes landed on some of your clothes on the floor near Thoma's chair.

"And you changed my clothes too? N- not that I'm ungrateful, but-" You looked up to see Thoma's face getting increasingly red. He took a hasty gulp of tea to try and cover it up. Any other time, you would have laughed at how adorable he looked.

"What did I do, Thoma?" Your heart was beginning to race for him.

He eventually gulped back his drink and took a deep breath. You knew he was stalling, he really didn't want to embarrass you. You wanted to tell him, you were less worried about the embarrassment and more what you might have put him through.

"You, uh . . ." He chuckled shyly. "You took your clothes off yourself . . . and, uh . . . you got a bit frisky . . . You . . . heh . . . you really wanted sex . . ."

You choked on a sip of orange juice. "I didn't do anything to you, did I?"

"No, nothing happened. I promise." For a moment, the sincerity in Thoma's voice calmed you. And then he laughed awkwardly again.

"Okay . . . you got a bit touchy-feely and grabbed my butt-"

"Oh no!" You clasped your hand over your mouth. Thoma gazed sympathetically at you.

"I'm sorry. Did I upset you?"

"No." You shook your head. "Thoma, I'm so sorry I did that!"

"It's okay-"

"No, it's not okay!" Your eyes began to well. You knew you would have been some trouble for Thoma while drunk, but this was worse than you thought. "I can't believe I let myself do that to you!"

You grabbed the tray on your lap to avoid spilling the contents Thoma had gone to the trouble of preparing for your stupid self. Holding onto the tray stopped you from wiping away the tears that started to stream down your cheeks.

Of course, Thoma was straight to his feet, taking up your tray and placing it on the bedside locker. It gave him the room he needed to lean over you for a cuddle.

"Hey, Y/N. Nothing bad happened . . ."

"I made you carry me home and grabbed your butt! That's not okay!"

Thoma was climbing over you so he could sit by your side and embrace you properly. You threw your arms around his neck and scattered frantic kisses wherever they would land.

"I'm so sorry, Thoma!" you cried between kisses "I'm so sorry!"

He suddenly shifted his head in a way that your lips landed on his. You pulled away in surprise and stared at him. He just gazed back with that warm smile you loved so much.

Why was he smiling at you . . . ?

Before you could question him, Thoma leaned in for another kiss. You instinctively gave in, kissing him right back. You stroked his warm chest and ran a hand through his hair. You worried he might get a taste of alcohol off of you. But as he brushed your cheeks dry with his fingers, you found your worries being wiped away too.

As he pulled away, you sighed and allowed your head to drop on his shoulder. He squeezed you in his arms and gave you one last kiss on your head.

"Feel better?"

You nodded, noticing yourself how much more relaxed you felt. But you still had one more promise to make.

"I'm never drinking again."

Thoma let out a soft chuckle. "You don't have to stop drinking. Just . . . maybe drink less next time so you don't-"

"Embarrass myself and make you care for me?"

Thoma paused. He heaved a heavy shaky sigh.

"And you don't . . . hurt yourself."

You thought you felt him shudder. You stared up at him. His eyes were drooping. His grip around you tightened.

"I don't want you to worry about me. I love taking care of you. I always have. But last night . . ." He sighed again and swallowed back a lump in his throat. "You were in a bad state. You were doing things that I know you wouldn't dream of doing in your right mind. And you were so confused. I just-"

Thoma squeezed his eyes shut in a long blink. This time, you definitely felt him shudder.

"I hate to think what would have happened . . . if the wrong person was there, or you had too many more drinks . . ."

You shivered with guilt and reached up to stroke his face. His eyes remained shut. His body was trembling. His mouth wobbled. He was trying so hard not to cry . . .

"I'm so sorry, baby . . ."

Thoma slowly released another shaky breath, sinking into your touch. Eventually, he smiled down at you and kissed you on your forehead.

"I love you, Y/N . . ."

"I love you too. I promise, I'm never drinking again."

"You can still drink, m'love. Just not that much. For your own sake."

"Yours too. I don't wanna scare you like that again. Or make you carry me or have me grab you anywhere-"

"It's okay." Thoma chuckled. "You're not hard to carry. And honestly-" He gave you a mischievous smirk. "I kinda liked you grabbing my butt . . ."

"Really?" You cocked your head and suddenly grinned devilishly. "Can I do it again?"

Thoma burst out laughing and gave you a playful squeeze. "Maybe another time. When you're a bit more sober."

"Awww," you went, though you actually didn't mind that much. As long as Thoma was happy, you were happy too.

"Tell you what." Thoma's smirk grew a little wider. "As soon as you're nice and sober, we can do whatever you want." He leaned over you and raised an eyebrow. "Would you like that?"

Your eyes widened. You nodded keenly with a big suggestive smile on your face.

"Yes please . . ."

Thoma beamed and gently rested your head down on the pillows. You happily lay down, keeping your arms wrapped around him, bringing him down with you.

"Can we still kiss?"

Thoma chuckled. "I don't see why not."

You beamed back up at him as he leaned down, landing his lips on yours. You pushed your lips back, running your hands along his back and shoulders, while he softly stroked your cheek.

While you definitely felt a lot better, you were more than happy to wait until Thoma and you were both ready. You giggled in the kiss. Boy couldn't you wait to have your boyfriend really take good care of you . . .
