Saturday was Midoriya's personal favorite of the week, not having to worry about the stress of school the next day and the fact he got relief from school the day before were factors of that, but even more so was the freedom he had. Unlike school days where once he got home he had to immediately go finish homework and study, Midoriya could do basically whatever he wanted, as long as he told his mother beforehand of course.
It has been about a week since the doctor's appointment, Midoriya going through another school week and absolutely crushing it, probably due to his excitement of the possibility of being a late bloomer. While the doctor did mention Midoriya's body wouldn't be used to having powers, and as such would react negatively to them, he had so-far exhibited no symptoms unlike last week. This morning however, he woke up with an intense hunger, similar to the one he felt last week. The hunger overtook his primary thinking, and he dashed to the kitchen, consuming all the sweets, specifically the chocolates.
He was so engrossed in his gluttony that he didn't notice his mother looking blankly from behind him. "Chocolate for breakfast? Really Izuku?" Inko replied, "I understand you've been getting hungrier, but why chocolate of all things?" Midoriya just turned to her, in a trance, eyes glassy and blackish with a mouth covered in black veins.
"Phenethylamine…" Midoriya responded, a similar dark tone to what he used last week. At this point, Inko became more accustomed to Midoriya's strange conditions, well, except the trances around food of course.
"Phene… what?" Inko asked, very confused. After gorging on chocolate some more, Midoriya seemed to exit his trance. "Good morning mom, ugh… why do I feel so full?" He complained, as he wasn't self aware during these trances. "Izuku… you just ate half the chocolate I was saving for the Trick-Or-Treaters this month.
"I did what?" Midoriya asked, until he turned to the ravaged candy bag, "Oh… oh no…" Inko just sighed, looking back at her son with a tired expression. "We really need to get your new appetite under control, or at least, control WHAT you eat during these… uh… trances." She suggested it to her son.
Midoriya was about to respond but he suddenly felt violently ill, so he raced to his bathroom. He dropped to the toilet and vomited, but instead of the remains of food coming out, a green and black sludge was painfully launched from his mouth. Glaring at the toilet in disgust, he flushed it and raced out the door, claiming to his mother that he was just going to get some medication for this sudden hunger.
Putting on his hoodie to combat the cold weather, he walked to the nearest drug store to pick up vomit and hunger medications. As he walked through the door and saw the sweets being placed front and center, he felt drawn to them. Chocolates of all kinds were being put on display during this holiday season. As he stared at the candy in awe, he was unable to notice a small green tendril manifest from his neck and go up behind his ear, whispering into it with a mouth-like orifice at the end.
"Consume…"
Midoriya jumped back in surprise, he looked all around himself for the source of the dark voice, but found nothing.
"CONSUME!"
The voice was getting louder, Midoriya tried to ignore it but failed miserably, this only made the voice even more persistent.
"CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME"
"Alright, fine!" Midoriya yelled in response out loud, startling some shoppers who were surprised at the strange teen who was supposedly talking to himself. Some of them with acute hearing could notice the dark voice, but it was too late to find the source as the unknown green tendril withdrew back into Midoriya's body. He grabbed some chocolates along with the medications and ordered them. Once outside, Midoriya felt his legs go numb as they brought him against his will to the alleyway. There, Midoriya went into another trance as he gorged on all the chocolate, he ate it in a record minute, and then he was aware again.
"What the heck is happe-" Midoriya didn't get to finish his sentence before he once again vomited a green sludge, which oozed onto the cold, hard ground. Regaining his composure, he took the bag with his medication and brought them home. Once home, his mother greeted him happily, until she noticed something on his face.
"Izuku, what's that stuff on your mouth?" Inko asked. Midoriya cleaned the rest of the green sludge vomit off, then looked at his mother sheepishly, "Oh nothing, just leftover throw up from all the chocolate I ate this morning." He replied.
Going back into his room, Midoriya took his medication, hoping that it would help him. Once he took the pills for vomiting and hunger, he didn't feel anything different. He still felt hungry and he still felt sick. Once again, unbeknownst to Midoriya, the green tendril with a mouth formed behind his ear.
"You seriously think that human medicine can control me?"
It was that voice again, replying to him in a mocking tone. Midoriya jumped in shock again, was he going insane? No, that couldn't be, all this strange stuff only happened after he- wait… that's it. The gears in Midoriya's head started clicking in place, and he started to realize a whole lot more about his situation.
All these strange things only started happening after he encountered that strange alien sludge. He had assumed that it was simply on the loose in the neighborhood, but wouldn't it have been found by now? It had clearly left the crash site as he found no trace of it when he woke up after its attack, but if it was at large, wouldn't he have seen it on the news? Not only that, he had been vomiting a sludge-like substance eerily similar, so there had to be some kind of conne-
Oh god. God no, please just no. Midoriya went down to the basement and grabbed a power tool, a hand drill more specifically. Turning it on, he recalled how the sludge was hurt by loud noises, if his theory was correct…
Green tendrils suddenly and uncontrollably shot out in all directions from his body, convulsing violently like a seizure. The tendrils quickly stole the drill from him, and threw it across the room. As the tendrils recoiled back into Midoriya's body, he could only stare in shock at nothing, as the truth of his situation dawned upon the Quirkless teen.
It was inside of him.
Midoriya immediately got to thinking on how to remove the sludge, so he went to grab the hand drill again, but the green tendrils once again manifested, sticking to the wall and preventing Midoriya from moving further.. Using all his willpower, he slowly moved towards the drill, which rested at the other side of the basement. It was painful, the green tendrils which stuck to his back and the wall, made it feel as though his entire back was being ripped off. Nevertheless, he fell to a crawl, just barely shy of being able to reach the drill.
He eyed the power tool again, noticing that it was only set to "soft" on the power scale. He tried to reach for it to change it to the highest setting, but before he could, massive green tentacles manifested on his back, arms and legs. The dark green sludge tentacles then attached themselves to the ceiling of the basement, pulling Midoriya up and pinning him. He tried to break out, but couldn't help but notice another slimy construct forming in front of him.
It was like a snake, if the long neck was made out of dark green goo and was manifesting out of his shoulder and looking him in the eye. It didn't seem to have a definitive face, only a slightly bigger bulb on the end with a huge black spiral insignia on the entire front, which Midoriya assumed was the head. Alongside the massive spiral on the thing's face was a smaller, severely deformed mouth-like orifice. A different tendril formed on his other shoulder, which went to turn off the power tool.
Midoriya looked at the snake-like thing in front of him in great fear. "What the hell are you?" He could only ask in a whimper. The head tilted a little bit, having a giant black spiral and deformed mouth instead of an actual face made it incapable of showing emotion.
"Why are you wasting your time trying to kill me?"
Midoriya recognized the voice, it was the same dark echoing one he had been hearing the whole day. The deformed mouth of the entity caused it to slur its words, but not enough to be unrecognizable.
"What the hell are you?" Midoriya fearfully asked, ignoring its question. Its face seemed to lower slightly, as if annoyed by his response.
"The others call me Rapture…"
"R-Rapture..?" Midoriya responded, terrified of the… thing in front of him. "Yes, Rapture. I am a Klyntar" Rapture explained, its snake-like neck and bulb head with a spiral face getting even closer to Midoriya as it explained. "W-What is a K-Klyntar?" Midoriya asked, scared yet intrigued. Rapture proceeded to explain that the Klyntar are a race of amorphous organisms that fall under the broad umbrella of "symbiote".
"So you're a parasi-"
"Whatever terminology your species has adopted, none of it applies to me."
Midoriya attempted to ask further questions but was unable to, Rapture was very stubborn, refusing to ask questions it believed coincided with human ideas. At some point, Rapture just decided to take control of the conversation, it had a point to be made.
"Listen, this is important. We are bonded now, albeit incompletely. Whether you like it or not, hell, whether I like it or not, is out of the question." Rapture said, as if its symbiotic relationship with Midoriya was some kind of mistake or necessary action. "What do you mean by that? Weren't you the one who chose to bond with me?" Midoriya asked, confused. "I didn't have a choice in the matter, now, neither do you. This is about survival, and in survival, there is no negotiation. However, this is what I will ask you," Rapture began, its snake-like construct of a body moving closer to Midoriya's face, the black spiral it had as a face showing no emotion yet eliciting a terrifying energy, "Will you accept your new life in this symbiotic relationship of ours or will you cause trouble? Believe me when I say this, if you give me problems, I won't hesitate to give you some back" Rapture threatened, Midoriya looking at the alien with fearful respect.
The creature was terrifying to him, it was an alien, an alien! Rapture elicited this horrifying aura, no wonder he was so shook. He looked back at Rapture's bulbous head, its black spiral face and deformed orifice of a mouth showing little to no emotions, body language was completely incomprehensible, Midoriya just could not understand it in the slightest. All he knew about Rapture was that it had all these strange abilities, and that it was symbiotic, sharing a body with him.
But as Midoriya gave it more thought, he came to an intriguing realization. If he could somehow find a way to get along with Rapture, he could have a shot at becoming a Hero! His lifelong dream could finally be attainable. Despite its strangeness, Rapture's symbiosis presented a golden opportunity, not one seen by many Quirkless people on Earth: The chance to become a Hero
Without hesitation, without even the fear of rejection, Midoriya spoke up. "So… Rapture? C-Could I ask you for a big favor?" He began, as the alien turned towards him. "Favor? What kind of favor?" Rapture asked, the tone of its garbled dark voice providing a hint of intrigue. "See, you can't understand but… On this planet, Earth, there are many people with superpowers called Quirks. Unfortunately, there are also many people who are Quirkless, like me…" Midoriya began, sadness evident in his voice, "I've just been dying to become a Hero, but I couldn't because I was Quirkless, and then you… "bonded" to me."
Rapture's snake-like neck and head lifted, its bulbous head moving closer to his face, as if Rapture's disregard of personal space wasn't already known enough. "So? Get to the damn point!" Rapture commanded, getting all up in Midoriya's face.
"Alright, alright! So, since you have these abilities, and we're symbiotically linked, will you… help me become a Hero?" Midoriya pleaded, wanting to get an answer as fast as possible. Rapture's head and neck turned away, deep in thought, finally giving Midorya some well-deserved personal space.
"What exactly is a Hero? With the way you talk about them, they seem to be important." Rapture asked, turning back to Midoriya. "Well, Heroes are people who do good acts, like stopping Villains or saving lives." He explained. Rapture raised its head, seeming curious about his response. "Stopping villains? How exactly do they do that?" Rapture asked, intrigued about Earth's Hero society.
"Fighting, Heroes get into exciting battles with villains." Midoriya responded, excited by Rapture's curiosity over Heroes. "So… violence? Violence is an admirable action on this planet? Interesting…" Rapture grumbled, as Midoriya realized he had just communicated the wrong idea.
"No no no, you got it all wrong! Heroes fight villains because they have to, it's for the greater good." Midoriya sheepishly replied, as he hoped the alien could understand his human terminology. "So what you're saying is that Heroes are advocates for causes of higher priority than everything and everyone else, is that correct?" Rapture asked, hoping to hit the nail on the head.
"Well, yeah, I guess you could say that…" Midoriya said, feeling Rapture loosen the tentacles he was pinned by to the ceiling. The alien looked at him a few more seconds, before its deformed mouth seemed to move upwards, looking almost like a sort of smile.
"Fine then, human, you WILL become a Hero!"
Those 8 words brought Midoriya to tears, his lifelong dream finally obtainable! He was crying as he thanked Rapture for its ki-
WHAM!
Midoriya groaned in pain as Rapture had completely loosened the grip of the tentacles, letting him flat onto the hard stone of the basement floor. He rubbed his face as he got up, noticing the telltale green tentacles of the symbiote withdrawing back into his body.
Brushing his teeth and getting into his sleepwear, Midoriya barely caught any sleep as the conversation with Rapture bounced around in his head. He didn't exactly know if he could trust Rapture, it was apparently neutral to him, and their symbiosis was out of necessity rather than an actual choice by the alien. However, he was so grateful for the opportunity to become a Hero, that he just didn't care. He didn't realize how reckless he had been, agreeing to keep an alien in his body, then agreeing to a deal with it to make him a Hero. But to Midoriya, he had been deprived of his dream for so long that he virtually wasn't able to care, at least not at the moment.
His life had truly changed for the better in his opinion, no matter how strangely it was. He had a rare privilege not many Quirkless people could, and it was all his. However, Midoriya could never comprehend how much his future had actually changed. Whether that's a good or bad thing, will be revealed with time.
