Eddie made sure that Cora was settled and then exited the nursery. She needed to check on Jamie. He'd only been home a few hours, but his neurologist said to check on him every couple of hours. Only because during his hostage situation he'd hit his head on the floor when he fell after Mr. Paulson had stabbed him with the scalpel. Quietly padding into the bedroom, Eddie went over towards Jamie and gently squeezed his hand, speaking to him.
"Jamie? Can you hear me?"
She listened to him groan and move his head.
"Yes, I can hear you babe. I just need to sleep."
Sighing, she nodded and gave him a sympathetic look.
"Just checking. You remember what Doctor Marcson said. I have to check on you every couple of hours. These neuro checks are important bub. You hit your head pretty hard when you fell."
Eddie watched as Jamie continued to squint at her. She saw him give a frustrated sigh and then softened as he tried to raise his hand to cup Eddie's cheek. He gave another groan.
"Son of a bitch that hurts…"
He could see the look of sympathy in Eddie's eyes.
"Of course it does. You were stabbed."
Letting out another groan, Jamie tried to get comfortable.
"Just make the pain go away. I need to sleep."
Eddie gave a satisfied grin.
"Well, at least I know your still alert and coherent. You're not slurring your words. You know where you are. I think it's safe to say you're ok. But I'll have to check on you again in a couple of hours. Now do you want something for the pain or not?"
Jamie opened up his eyes again, this time they went wide.
"Oh hell yes."
Eddie nodded and helped him sit up. Helping him take his pain pill she watched him swallow it. She helped him get comfortable in the bed once again. She hated seeing him like this. She watched as he slowly fell back asleep, and his breathing evened out. Climbing onto the bed next to him, she was careful not to jostle him. Pulling the blanket over her slightly, she leaned up against the headboard behind the bed and grabbed for the magazine on her side table next to the lamp.
"I'm not going anywhere bub. We promised each other we'd take care of one another. We're each other's medics remember?"
Flipping through her magazine, she glanced up at Jamie every now and then, making sure he was still breathing. She knew it was irrational to think that way, but after what he'd just been through nearly four days ago, it was safe to say she had a reason to worry. Putting her magazine down for a moment, Eddie ran a hand through his messy dark hair. Giving a soft laugh, shook her head and watched him sleep.
"You have bed hair babe. My mother used to call me cockatoo in the morning when I'd get out of bed because my hair stood up."
Her phone began to beep on the side table. Turning off the alarm, she called out to him.
"Jamie? Can you hear me?"
Leaning over him, she kissed his forehead and then placed a hand up to his cheek, caressing it gently. She froze when she heard him say a name that was not her own.
"Keena, its too early…"
Eddie suddenly felt her nose flare and her body stiffened.
"Keena? Who's that?"
Watching him for a moment, Eddie saw Jamie give her a small smile.
"I can hear you Ed. Keena is our third born. Stubborn and a screamer and a full head of red hair. Looks just like me but is all you."
Eddie felt her walls go down and her expression softened.
"Well, I'm glad to see you planning out the next few years of our growing family. Cora isn't even a year old yet. I heard you mention a boy's name in there. Patrick."
Eddie watched as Jamie's expression changed. He tried to smile.
"Patrick. He's our son. He's strong and quiet and grows up to join the family business."
Eddie kept looking at Jamie to gauge what he was thinking.
"Sounds like our future kids turn out alright. I always worry how Cora's going to turn out."
Jamie became concerned. It'd been some time since she'd talked like that.
"Hey, look at me Eddie. She's turning out beautifully. She's nearly six months old now."
Eddie nodded and let her walls fall a little further.
"She is. She's getting so big. Every time I turn around, she's already grown out of her clothes. I've decided that it's time to start weaning her off breastfeeding. But I'll need your help in convincing her."
Eddie saw as Jamie gave another tired smile.
"That I can help you with. Help me back onto my feet again and we'll see what we can do."
Eddie leaned in for a kiss and let it turn deep. Even as groggy and tired as Jamie was, he couldn't ignore the love he felt for Eddie coursing through him. He tried to pull her closer to him. Eddie gently pulled away and pushed him back down on the bed.
"Ah. Not until you're better. We can have time for us when you're all healed up."
Eddie sat down on the bed and Jamie gave a reluctant sigh.
"Well can we at least cuddle?"
Eddie gave a smirk and shook her head.
"We can. After I change your bandage covering your stitches in your left side."
Jamie gave a half a laugh.
"You are such a romance killer Ed."
Eddie gave a sarcastic laugh.
"Glad I could cheer you up bub. Turn over."
Jamie smirked and moved the blankets.
"Whatever you say babe."
Eddie was careful as she removed the gauze from over his stitches. He'd gotten almost 20. She winced as she put some antibiotic cream over the stitches. She watched for Jamie's reaction.
"Ah! That stings!"
Eddie finished putting the dressing over his stitches and put his shirt down.
"Sorry bub. I know that stings. It'll heal nicely. You'll see."
A smirk tugged at the sides of Jamie's mouth.
"Now who's being the doctor? I'm fine Ed."
Eddie kept smiling.
"Well, I thought it was time to reciprocate. You took care of me when I needed it most and now its my turn. Do you think you could eat something?"
Jamie blinked and nodded.
"Maybe some of your chicken soup."
Eddie nodded.
"I'm already way ahead of you bub. Out of all my cooking, it's my chicken soup and my lasagna you like."
Jamie gave a small laugh and then groaned, wincing once again. He knew he was taken care of. Eddie was his best chance at getting better. Her, Cora and the rest of the family. The grogginess surrounded him as the last few days sunk in. He hoped that this was the end of the nightmare he'd just experience. With the support of his family.
