A/N: Good news! Fairyborne has been added to Fanfic Recs on the Bloodborne TV Trope Page! I never expected this to happen. Anyway, to commemorate this story, here is another chapter. Please enjoy. And apology, but I've been busy with another story, Wild West Dragon, which I might write in between this and Dark Souls: Embers of Remnant. Go and check it out. I made a recent discovery that two years ago, Fairy Tail and Bloodborne's creators, Hiro Mashima and Hidetaka Miyazaki, had met in real life once during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. I wonder how a fanart would go like?
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail and/or Bloodborne
Dragon Hunter of Yharnam
Ninth Hunt
Old Hunter Henryk
The incense within the Cathedral Ward reached her nostrils of Wendy as she had awakened within it. She continued to sniff and smelled there were other occupants that had made it into the Cathedral. She turned to her right to see the other Hunter appearing. "Mr. Gideon. Did you manage to get some people onto the cathedral?"
The other Hunter nodded, "Yes."
Wendy sniffed a few times and scented a familiar individual. Without a word spoken, she headed to where it came from while ignoring two new presences. Gideon noticed this and proceeded to follow her. As he reached outside of the Cathedral, he immediately saw her talking to a familiar elderly woman. "Miss Eileen, is it really you?!"
Said Huntress turns around and saw the little girl again. "Oh, it's you." She looked at the side to see Gideon standing beside her. "Looks like both of you are Hunters, after all?"
The young dragon slayer chuckled at the elderly woman's words. "Yeah. Just did a few hunts." She had curiosity as to why Eileen was here. "Why are you here, Miss Eileen?"
Said Huntress looked back at the two Hunters. "Ah yes. You both made it at a perfect time. I must warn both of you…" She looked at the view below her. "…not to go near the Oedon Chapel in the Cathedral Ward."
Wendy got curious as to why when she eventually got her answer. "Henyrk, an old hunter, has gone mad. He he's my mark…" The Crow Huntress proceeded to do a 'Shh!' gesture towards the two before looking back at the view.
The young dragon slayer was about to ask once again until she sniffed a few times and looked down to see another Hunter in the area below them. Without a single word, she left the area. Gideon looked at the side and can't help but have a bad feeling about all of this.
-Scene Change-
The Good Hunter could only grumble at the young Hunter's actions as she completely ignored Eileen's words. Right now, both were making their way to the cemetery that was not far from the Cathedral Ward. He then muttered to her, "Didn't Eileen told you not to interfere with her business?"
The sky dragon slayer seemed to acknowledge that. "I am aware, Mr. Gideon. I only just want to talk to him."
"She warned us that he went mad." He reminded her.
"I know…" She spoke while having the Saw Spear in hand just in case things would go wrong. "I know."
As the two Hunters found themselves in the area of the Cathedral's cemetery site, both walk down a flight of stairs and into the centre of the cemetery. Wendy sniffed again and she turned to her left to see another Hunter in a yellowish attire just waiting there. She put her hand up and called out to him. "Mister!"
"KID, WAIT!" Gideon warned her before he tackled her to safety as the other hunter fired a bullet, that was aimed towards her skull. Quickly getting back to his feet, he glared at her. "What were you thinking!?"
"I just wanted to talk to him!" She answered.
Both of them heard an animalistic growl coming from the other hunter. They looked at him to see he had a Saw Cleaver on his right and a Hunter's pistol on his left. A snarl escaped through his lips as it stared at the two. "Well, so much for talk." Gideon commented before he pulled out his own weaponry.
"Wait, we're going to engage him like you did to the beast?" Wendy can't help but to ask while pulling her Saw Spear out. "But he's like us!"
"Overcome with bloodlust! He clarified, earning a shocked gasp from the sky dragon slayer. "I'll give you the details later. Right now, just focus on the hunt."
She slightly nodded her head. "O-okay then…"
Since the area was so much to engage in combat, they need to be careful of where they are and if it was the right moment to strike. Without wasting time, the two Hunters dashed towards the rogue Hunter with their weapons. Gideon swung his saw cleaver at the man, but he easily quickstepped to the side to avoid the attack. Henyrk pointed the Pistol at the other Hunter and Fired a shot, which he immediately dodged but Wendy was not fast enough as it went through her long blue hair.
Wendy was lucky that she avoided getting shot but felt as though her hair couldn't be the same. Realising why her hair should be tied up, all she think of is to go back to the Dream and have the Doll do her hair once again. For now, she would have to get through this fight against this rogue Hunter.
Wendy rushed to the two Hunter's position and swung her Saw Spear as Henyrk. He was able to dodge her attack, but it wasn't quick enough as he was lightly slashed across the left shoulder. In retaliation, he aimed his pistol at her and fired a silver bullet at her. Luckily enough, Gideon was there where he managed to take the shot to the stomach. The young dragon slayer was shocked by this as though it didn't seem to knocked him down. "Mr. Gideon!"
"I'm alright, kid." He told her despite getting shot in the left shoulder. "This guy's tough. I had a feeling Eileen had warned the both of us to not interfere with her prey."
Wendy was uneased by the words he had said. "What do you mean by that. Mr. Gideon." Before the mad Huntsmen could even do a single thing, something slashed him across the back, making him quickset to the sides. Both Hunters immediately saw Eileen who was wielding a unique trick weapon.
"Miss Eileen?!" Wendy called upon seeing the elderly woman coming to their rescue. She eyed at the weapon at her hand and could tell it may have been something Erza would have liked.
"Not right now," Gideon reminded her while tossing an empty blood vial away after injecting it into himself. He and Wendy looked over to where the other Hunter was, who was now fighting Henyrk with two blades that made up the bigger variant. Despite this, it seems like she was careless as the mad Hunter swung his Saw Cleaver at her, which caused a lot of blood to be all over him. Seeing this was their queue of intervening. "Until we help her out."
"R-right." She said, regaining her focus once again. Without a second to waste, both rushed towards Henyrk and swung their trick weapons.
Gideon did an upper-cut motion in front of the mad Hunter, which manage to cup him albeit lightly in the torso. Henyrk retaliated by firing another shot, but Gideon took cover behind a huge headstone. The sound of metal hitting stone rand through his ears as he was about to go to the attack when Henyrk swung first. "That quick?!"
As Gideon was caught by surprise, the mad Hunter aimed his pistol towards his head. Yet, when he was about to fire, a transformed Saw Spear swung down to his arm. His left arm was cleanly cleaving it off from the elbow. Henyrk shrieked in pain as he dropped his weapons and clutched what was left of his arm. Gideon immediately saw that it was Wendy who did the deed. "Kid…" He didn't believe she could display such brutality.
Wendy was breathing heavily as she glared angrily at him while gritting her teeth. "You're not going to harm Mr. Gideon anymore!" She transformed her weapon into his saw form to finish him off.
Right she was about to, the mad hunter was stabbed onto the back. He didn't register what had occurred to him as felt everything becoming dark before going for a deep slumber…
Eileen pulled the blades out of Henyrk's back as he fell to the ground. Blood poured out of him as he lay there dying. The veteran Huntress was breathing heavily after that fight before looking at Gideon and Wendy as she finally caught her breath. "That wasn't necessary for the both of you. But you two have my thanks."
"You don't have to thank me, Miss Eileen." Wendy apologized for not heeding her warnings earlier.
Still, the crow Hunter was grateful to what had occurred. "We made it. You two aren't bad at all." She shifted her attention to Gideon. "You must have killed Gascoigne as well, then?"
"…" The Good Hunter nodded rather bitterly, which Wendy saw.
"He was falling apart, I'm sure it had to be done." Eileen continued to speak to him sympathetically before she looked at the young dragon slayer. "But try to keep both of your hands clean. A hunter should hunt beasts. Leave the hunting of hunters to me…" She chuckled darkly at that, causing Wendy to shiver.
Seeing their task done, Gideon turned away and proceeded to head back to the Cathedral. This made Wendy look at him. "Where you going, Mr. Gideon?"
"Back inside." He told her. "We're going to continued in our hunt. You better come with me, kid."
"Okay," She nodded before proceeding to follow him. She quickly turned back to look at Eileen once more. "Goodbye for now, Miss Eileen."
"…" She hummed before giving a little wave at the kid. Once the two hunters were gone, she can't help but to sigh. "Why is that kid so friendly at this night of the hunt?"
-Scene Change-
After their initial plan with speaking to Henyrk, both Hunters were in the Cathedral Ward as Wendy was going to introduce herself to a woman rather than the other in a church robe as she seemed somewhat fanatical. "Oh my, I never expected a young child to partake in the hunt." Arianna spoke with amusement.
"I guess this is a first, Miss Arianna," Wendy commented after introducing herself to her.
Having calmed down from earlier, Gideon cleared his throat to grab her attention. "About what you said earlier…"
Arianna didn't forget what she promised him, and she handed out a blood vial to him. "Here, my blood. I didn't forget my promise."
Wendy gaped at seeing this and looked at the Good Hunter after taking the vial from her. "You're… taking her blood!?"
"Yes, and I don't want to explain any further," He answered before walking to the back entrance of the cathedral. "Come on." He started to head towards his destination.
"Wait, where we're going?" Wendy questioned as she followed behind him.
The two Hunters walked to the opened gates and passed the dead bodies that were lying on the floor. Once they reached the plaza, they headed off to the direction that the young dragon slayer had never been to before. Walking deeper, they entered a viewing point of Yharnam where a blonde man was standing there and wore a rather unique looking robe. He turned to look at them and smiled at Gideon.
"Ah, I didn't expect to see you, Hunter." He said before turning his attention to Wendy. Seeing him cause him to walk towards her, who hid behind Gideon. "Come on, I'm not a bad person." He said with kind words before Wendy showed herself in an embarrassed look on her face. He chuckled at her look as he placed a hand on her head before ruffling it. "See. There's nothing to be afraid about."
"T-thanks…" She uttered before lifting her head up to look at him. "What's your name?"
"Alfred." He introduces himself to her. "And you."
"Wendy. Wendy Marvell."
"It's nice to meet you, Wendy." He said. Once he was done ruffling Wendy's head, he looked at Gideon. "So, what brings you here?"
"I need to go Byrgenwerth." The other Hunter answered truthfully.
"Oh," He said in interest. "And what for?"
The Good Hunter didn't want to reveal to him what Brygenwerth had some responsibility to what was going on in Yharnam. He proceeded to give him some truth of his reason. "There is something I need to look for."
"And it seems like I am only wasting your time." He said before shifting his attention to Wendy once again. "And you're bringing her with you."
"She's under my supervision," He answered rather defensively.
"Ah, I see." He spoke in realisation before giving both Hunters a smile. "Well then, I heed the both of thee farewell, it has been a pleasure. May the good blood guide your way."
With that, Gideon and Wendy walked away from the other Hunter. Walking down the flight of stairs, Wendy can't help to what happened earlier. "Mr. Alfred seems to be a nice guy."
"He sure is…" He rather somewhat indifferently.
Now she was annoyed by his attitude. "Why are you speaking like that, Mr. Gideon?"
She heard him releasing a sigh and looked at her. "I apologise for my previous attitude. But I don't trust Alfred at all."
She tilted her head. "Why?"
"He's…" Gideon tried to find a better words to not offended the Church Hunter. "Let's say him and I have different views in certain topics." That made the sky dragon slayer to look at him. Before she can answer, she and the Good Hunter stood in front of a locked gate and not a second later, he banged on the sealed door.
A laughter could be heard on the other side before a voice of a man was heard. "The password…"
Gideon breathed through his nose before he gave his answer. "Fear the Old Blood." Once that was said, the door magically opened and a corpse sitting down on a stone was seen. He glanced at Wendy, who seemed to be flabbergasted to what had occurred. "Come on kid. We have a mystery to solve."
"Um…alright then…." She said somewhat awkwardly before she followed him to wherever this Brygenwerth is located.
FINALLY! The first 2024 chapter of Dragon Hunter of Yharnam is done even though it is short. I can finally start planning what can happen in future chapters. But I want to hear, what do you think could happen in Wendy's time in the Night of the Hunt? I want to hear your thoughts.
For me I can imagine her being tricked by a rather suspicious individual known for tricking people and another regarding about a certain nightmare for Hunters and the bosses she'll face. The latter will be an explanation why Wendy is in Yharnam in the first place. Oh crap, I kinda spoiled it now. But I want you to guess why?
Anyway, give me some constructive feedback to make improvements soon. With that, I'll see you in the next chapter
