Summary: A deleted scene from What Lurks in the Dark, chapter 5.
Criminal Tendencies
"Well, you are a lot of trouble."
Luke paused mid-sip and and then slowly set his canteen aside before twisting to look back up at his father. "Excuse me?" he demanded.
A whisper of humor flickered for the briefest moment along their bond.
Vader lifted a hand, counting off on his fingers as he spoke. "You are currently guilty of domestic and galactic terrorism, several first-degree felony counts of causing a catastrophe by the means of a weapon of mass destruction, criminal tresspassing, aggravated arson, criminal mischief, theft, fraud, weapons smuggling, disorderly conduct, and causing riots on multiple planets and in several different systems."
Luke gaped at his father. "Is that all?" he finally managed to ask.
Vader shook his head once. "No." he said humorously. "As of yesterday, you are also guilty of at least one Class A misdemeanor for trespassing into an abandoned mine."
"Oh, come on!" Luke exclaimed, crossing his arms sullenly. "I only came in here because I was running for my life!"
"Because you were caught trespassing on private and condemned property."
Luke opened his mouth to protest but then hesitated because it wasn't as if Vader was wrong. After a moment, he pursed his lips and scowled. "You're one to talk." He finally grumbled. "What about your massive list of crimes?"
"My faults are a separate matter." Vader said dismissively. Luke rolled his eyes and was reluctantly and begrudgingly amused.
"Well. Since you're apparently keeping a list, you should probably know that when I was learning how to drive a speeder, I was guilty of double parking at least twice." He added after a moment.
Vader was definitely smiling now.
"Ah. So your criminal tendencies began at an even younger age than I suspected."
A/N this did NOT fit the tone I was going for in that chapter but I've always thought it was too hilarious to just delete completely. there are so many ways for these two to figure each other out but them bitching back and forth and then getting along is probably one of my favorites.
thanks for reading!
