Enjoy lovebugs ;)
"I want you to meet my mom," Sam spoke as Mercedes lay on his bare chest in his bedroom. The tour had ended last month, and ever since then, any free time that both Mercedes and Sam had they spent with each other. So this explained why Mercedes was in bed with him, enjoying the quietness of the nighttime after a round of passionate sex. She looked up at him.
"But you told me your mother and father and our still married. Wouldn't I meeting her also end up with me meeting him?" Mercedes asked.
Sam sighed, "Yes, but I am willing to work around that technicality. Look, my parents are planning to come here for the game against the San Jose Sharks. My parents and my sister have a room here, and I know that we agreed that this was the game we were going to go public, so why not kill two birds with one stone?"
Mercedes sat up, "I want nothing more than to be able to meet your mom and sister as long as you can meet my mom. She's flying in the weekend of your game, and maybe we can kill multiple birds with just one stone."
"You really want to have everyone meet for the first time?"
"No time better than the present."
Sam smiled and reached over to his bedside drawer and opened it, pulling out a small velvet box, "Well, since you insist that there is no time like the present." He opened the box, revealing a matching charm bracelet and necklace. On the necklace, there was her initial with a microphone beside it in gold. The charm bracelet had a mic, hockey stick, and the first initials of their name on it.
"This is for you to wear for that game coming up because I remember I told you that when we went public, I wanted you to wear my jersey, that watch I got you, and whatever else I bought," Sam explained as he placed the necklace on and she tenderly touched the bracelet.
"I love you," Mercedes said.
"I love you more." Sam insisted.
Sam's family had just flown in, and he was waiting by the car. Mercedes had texted him, insisting that everything would go great as her mom had just arrived. He sighed to himself, it wasn't his mother or sister that he was worried about. It was his father he had to worry about. While his mother and sister would have been in glee that he was dating a future R&B superstar, his father would see Mercedes as a distraction, and his father hated nothing more than distractions.
He was waiting for them to arrive at the car when Mercedes sent him a message, "Everything is going to be fine! I love you, and you are going to play great tonight." He smiled, and as he was about to type the reply, he heard his sister squeal his name.
"SAMMY SAM!" She shouted as she ran and jumped into his arms.
He laughed as he caught her, "Hey there, squirt, how are you?"
"Killing it as a high school freshman, of course, and thanks to that lovely performance that you and Mercedes did, I am the talk of the freshman class. Everyone is asking me if my brother is really dating her, and I have been playing coy this entire time." Stacie spoke fast as she explained everything. Sam smiled at her as his parents stood and watched the exchange. He moved over to his parents as Stacie started to get in the car and pulled his mother in for a big hug.
"I have missed you, love," Mary spoke.
"I have missed you so much, Mom." He smiled into the hug, feeling like he hadn't hugged her in forever. When they let go, he moved over to his father and saw Dwight's outstretched hand, and he shook it hard.
"Hi, dad," Sam spoke once they went.
"Hi Sam, so how about dropping us off and then heading to the stadium."
"Sure thing. Also, my um girlfriend and her mom are going to be in the suites with us," Sam explained as he placed the remaining bags in her car.
"Oh, is that singer Sam?" Mary asked.
"REALLY IS IT MERCEDES!" Stacy screeched.
"Yes," Sam chuckled, "It is her and her mother."
"Well, I am sure she is a swell girl." Mary insisted while they got in the car, but Dwight said nothing.
"You know I was worried about you living in this studio apartment, but I must say, Mercedes, you have made it your own," Melinda spoke as she and Mercedes made it into her apartment.
"Thanks, Mom, and I am so glad you were able to come in this weekend. You are officially going to meet Sam and his parents," Mercedes spoke as she went to the fridge and grabbed two water bottles. She gave one to her mom as she sat on her couch.
"Well, I hoped I could since his t-shirt just greeted me." Melinda joked as she held up Sam's grey tank top. Mercedes blushed and tossed it on her bed.
"Sorry about that, but how are you mom?"
"I am doing fine, baby, and I am so proud of you and what you are doing with your career. You have made me so happy that words can not even explain it. Also, thanks to you, all the teachers have been flocking towards me as if I am my own celebrity." Melina explained. Melinda is a fifth-grade teacher, and she had to admit that it was nice that people were speaking to her to praise her daughter. She didn't know what would happen when she found out she was pregnant with Mercedes. However, she knew she had to do everything to ensure her daughter would become everything she wanted to be.
"I am glad, Mom, and it's fun out here, Mommy. Everything is going so perfectly."
Melinda looked at her daughter with so much admiration, "I am glad, baby. Now, what do I need to wear so I can watch this boyfriend of yours play hockey?"
To say Sam was a nervous wreck was an understatement. He never felt like this unless his dad was in the suites, and sure enough, his dad, Mercedes, and her mother were in the suites today. It was a different thing when his father was watching from his home, but in person, it messed up Sam's brain. He psyched himself out so much that he never remembered how he played or whether or not he made a difference. He had left the locker room and was out in the hallway, trying to calm himself as he sat on the ground. He was sitting there for a few minutes when he felt a hand touch him. He looked up, and sure enough, there was Mercedes. She had on his jersey a matching hat with the jewelry he had purchased for her. She looked so adorable.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She asked as she sat in front of him.
He sighed and looked away, "I forgot that when my dad is actually in person to watch me play, I feel off. I never am able to actually enjoy the sport when he is here because he becomes a micro analyzer on all of my mistakes."
"Sam, look at me," Mercedes spoke. Sam turned his head as Mercedes held his hands in hers.
"You are a fantastic hockey player. You have single-handedly led this team to championships two years in a row, and you are going to do it again. So block everything out. The only thing that matters is you and the ice because you know the game better than anyone could ever want to know it. You are going to do amazing, ok." Mercedes assured him. Sam reached up and placed a kiss on her lips.
"You are the best," Sam spoke.
She chuckled, "I know. Now go play the game you love." She helped Sam up and gave him a good luck kiss before heading back to the suites with his family and her mother.
"You good Evans?" Roz asked.
"Yep, let's go win," Sam spoke.
Mercedes and Melinda had entered the suites, and a jittery Stacey ran right up to Mercedes.
"You're Mercedes Jones, and you are dating my brother Sam! Wait, you guys are dating, right? This isn't some awful PR stunt. I would hate to get attached to you, and then six months down the road, the label wants you to break up with him so the sales of your next song will go up." Stacey spoke.
Mercedes laughed, "You must be Stacey, Sam's sister. To answer your questions, I am, in fact, Sam's girlfriend, and this is not a PR stunt; this is my mom. Fun fact: I think I am going to enjoy hanging out with you more than I do with you." She whispered the last part to Stacey, causing the girl to engulf her in a hug that Mercedes gladly returned. Mary walked over to the three and introduced herself.
"Hi, my Sam seems to be infatuated with you more as well as my daughter, and it is understandable. You have a very infectious spirit on you, and you have raised a wonderful, talented young lady." Mary spoke highly.
Melinda spoke, "You are my new favorite person now. Shall we bond over these rich people's snacks?"
"Absolutely." Mary agreed with glee as the two women laced their arms together and walked over to the snack table. Stacey took Mercedes over to Dwight, who was intent on watching the warm-ups.
"That's my dad, he gets really intense when he watches Sam play. Dad, this is Mercedes. Sam's girlfriend." She announced. Dwight peered over.
"Nice to meet you, God Sam; he has gotten so relaxed in these warm-ups nowadays. Back in high school, he would have been done by now." Dwight insisted. Mercedes sat by Stacey, finding she would much more enjoy the young girl's spirit than Dwight's.
"I hope they win," Stacey told her.
"I hope they win too," Mercedes revealed.
And win they did. The Kings won with a blowout score of 6-0, with Sam scoring five points and giving Mike an assist to achieve the final sixth point. He was so elated that when he looked up at the suites, he didn't focus on his dad's sour face; he focused on Mercedes's beautiful smile and her thumbs up. He touched his heart, mouthing the words "I love you," and she did the same. When he made it back to the lockerroom, everyone was cheering him on.
"Let's give it up to Evans for not losing his temper today!" Roz cheered. He smiled and laughed before sitting down in his locker as Roz went over their post-game conversation. Once he left, Mike looked over at him.
"So your mom, dad, sister, your girlfriend, and her mom were all in the suite cheering you on. How does that make you feel?" Mike questioned
"Like the happiest son of a bitch in the world." Sam cheered. After showering and getting dressed, he went and found Mercedes from everyone else as he asked her to meet them in a private part of the stadium. When she locked eyes with him, she ran and jumped in his arms and placed kisses all over his face.
"You did amazing, baby, and your sister and mother are so wonderful. Your father is very intense when it comes to hockey, though." Mercedes admitted.
He chuckled, "Yeah, thank you so much for that pre-game pep talk. It really helped, and I am glad you enjoyed two-thirds of the company I brought. Now if I do remember correctly, there is an Instagram post you wanted to make so we can be officially official."
Mercedes smiled that he remembered she propped her phone camera up on the wall as she and Sam did flirty poses. As she looked through them, she found her top three, the best one being the one where they kissed, and she kicked her foot behind her. She captioned the photo, "An Evans Hockey Girl." Then she posted it.
"I love you," She spoke.
"I love you too, now can we please go eat I am starving."
She laughed, "Yes come on I think our moms are going to throwdown in the kitchen.
