A few weeks after Atem registered Layla for preschool, Yugi started coming by on his days off to tutor Layla. After two weeks of working with her Atem and Yugi began to see progress. Layla could now understand longer sentences and repeat most of it back to him in sign. They could also understand her better when she is speaking.
Atem was so happy he was finally seeing his little girl make progress. She absolutely loved the books Yugi would bring over for her when he came over for her lessons.
He brought over a book that glows in the dark where you count the stars in it. Some touch and feel books. But Layla's favorite books were the I spy books. She absolutely loved those, her favorite is Spooky Mansion.
Atem also got to know Yugi on a more personal level than just his daughter's teacher. Layla seemed to adore him as well. He found it funny because she never liked any of her teacher's before Yugi.
Since Yugi always came over to his house for Layla's lessons, he always wound up staying for dinner too. Usually afterward they would either play a game or watch a movie together. Layla even joined them sometimes. They became really close over the past few weeks.
Atem realized he had feelings for Yugi. He thought the smaller man was really cute and sweet. Atem wanted to ask him out but he was worried Yugi didn't feel the same. He also wondered how Layla would feel if he and Yugi were to date. Layla seemed to adore the shorter man and so did he for that matter.
Atem knew that his daughter never cared for any of his dates before. But he figured that might have been because of the fact they were all gold diggers. He had brought a few dates, both men and women around Layla to see what she thought of them. Most of them left after finding out he had a baby to take care of .
The only guy he brought around was Amar and they were together for almost a year and Layla liked him a lot, so much that Atem asked him to move in with them. But then one day when he was getting ready to go to work she threw a tantrum. Atem was surprised she normally is very well behaved. When he asked her what was wrong Layla said she didn't want him to go.
Atem told her he had to go to work and that she was going to have fun with Amr. Layla started crying even more. She threw herself down on the ground and beat it with her tiny fists. Back then she could only speak a few words so it was a little difficult to understand her sometimes.
She had never done this before , and Atem was concerned. He leaned down and picked her up. He told Amr he was bringing her into work with him. Atem told her she was going to work with him stopped crying and smiled at him.
But then her face tensed up. She looked at him and asked if Amr was coming with them. When he said no she was much happier. That didn't sit right with him.
Atem carried her into her bathroom and cleaned her face. He put her in one of her princess dresses. He said goodbye to Amr, then walked out of the house.
Atem strapped Layla into her carseat and drove off to work. He called his Secretary and explained what happened. He also told her He didn't want to be disturbed for at least a half hour.
Atem had asked Amr if he knew why she was acting so strange before they left. He said he didn't know and said she was just trying to get attention. That statement didn't sit right with Atem, Layla isn't that kind of kid.
Atem had taught her to use her words when she was upset ,not scream. The only time she screams is when she is really upset or hurt. He had a feeling Amr was hiding something, He then remembered he had nanny cams set up around the house.
A few months ago someone had broken into one of the houses down the street from him so that very same day he went out and bought a few nanny cams and set them around the house. He even installed a state of the art security system. Atem had it set so he could watch the videos on his computer at work.
Atem brought up the footage of the nanny cams first. The footage he clicked on made him angry. It showed him a video of Amr and another guy making out on his sofa.
That's not all he saw though. He rewound the video to the day before while he was at work. What he saw made him furious. He saw Amr lock Layla in her room and then go to the front door and open it for the man he saw making out with Amr later in the video. Atem could hear his little girl pounding on the door with her tiny fists, begging, and crying to be let out.
Atem called the police saying he had an intruder in his home , and that he had video footage of his boyfriend locking his daughter in her room all day while he was at work. Then he called Amr and told him they were over and to get out of his house.
The police had sent an officer over to Atem's work to get the video footage and then sent two more officers to remove Amr from Atem's house.
After the officers had left, Atem told Layla how sorry he was that he didn't know what Amr had done to her. He then ordered him and Layla some ice cream.
Anyone else he dated after that, they had all started to ignore Layla, after a few weeks of them dating. He even caught one of them about to hit her for no reason . That was the last straw. He told her to get out and never come back. That was when Layla had turned two. Atem decided to put dating on the back burner for a little bit after that.
Atem slumped back on his bed thinking about everything that has happened in his life so far. Atem knows one thing despite all that he's been through he wouldn't change it. He loves his daughter.
He has a feeling somewhere deep inside him, Layla will wind up liking Yugi. Now if only he could gather up the courage to ask the smaller man out on a date. He knew Yugi's preference was men but he wasn't sure if he was his type or not.
"Yugi had said to me that he and Joey used to go to highschool together and that they are best friends. Maybe Joey would know if I should ask Yugi out or stay quiet. What do you think, Slifer? Should I call Joey and ask for his help? I like Yugi a lot. Every time I'm around him my heart beats faster and I start getting nervous. I never felt like this for anyone before. Not even Layala's mother made me feel that way."
"Ssss," was the only reply Atem got from his pet snake. Slifer is a large corn snake he found a few weeks ago. Layla said she wanted to keep him. Atem said that was fine as long as he wasn't venomous.
Atem had taken him to the vet to be checked out. He wanted to make sure they could keep him. The vet said everything was mostly fine. Slifer is a non-venomous corn snake. The only problem was that he was severely emaciated and dehydrated, and would have to be left there for a little bit before going home.
Atem last week from the vet saying that Slifer was all good to go home with him and Layla but would never be able to live life outside like a normal snake. He had gotten an infection that made him unable to move around as quickly as he used to.
Atem said that was fine and they planned to make him a pet. So after he got out of work and picked Layla up from school they went to the vet office together, to bring Slifer home.
Atem then walked into Layla's room and laid Slifer down on her bed. He then walked into the living room and found his daughter on the floor coloring a picture of a Kuriboh. He noticed she didn't have her hearing aids in. He understands she needed a break from them. But he wishes she would tell him when she's taking a break from them. Atem tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention.
Layla turned around and smiled brightly. ("Hi daddy.")
("Hi pumpkin. Are you making me another picture for my desk?")
("No daddy, I'm making it for Yugi. Do you think he will like it?")
Atem sat down on the floor next to her and hugged her. ("I am sure he will love it, it's beautiful.")
He sat there with her for a bit just watching her draw a picture of what looked like a brown blob with large purple eyes and green claws.
("What are you drawing?") Atem asked her, it looked like Kuriboh but he couldn't be sure.
("Keeboh. It's Yugi's favorite card. He showed it to me.") The little girl answered her father as she continued coloring.
("Really? I didn't know that.") Atem mused.
("And he said that when I turn 3 he's gonna teach me to read soon so that you can teach me to duel. Yugi said that his grandpa taught him to read and play duel monsters. Is Yugi coming over today? Daddy?")
("He will be here soon, so I need you to clean your toys up ok sweetie?")
("Yay! I'm go wait for him!") She cheered jumping up to go wait at the large bay window in their living room.
Atem grabbed her arm gently and she looked back at him. ("Hold on Lay, you need to clean up your stuff first then you can wait for Yugi.")
("Ok daddy"), she replied as she picked up her toys and brought them into her room. Atem trailed behind her helping her carry her art supplies back into her bedroom.
("Are you excited to see Yugi?"), Atem asked her.
("Yes, daddy, I want to show him Slifer." I think they will be friends.") she smiled brightly.
Atem smiled back at his daughter, who was putting the rest of her toys and art supplies away. He tapped her on the shoulder.
("I want you to put Slifer back in his tank before Yugi comes over.
I'm going to start dinner now. I put the rest of your toys on your bed. Once you put those away then you can go wait for Yugi. Ok?")
("Ok daddy, I love you.") She said, kissing him on the cheek.
("I love you too, Lay. Oh you also need to put your hearing aids back in. Ok sweetie?") he said, kissing her forehead.
("Yes daddy.") she replied as Atem got up to go start dinner, it was mostly done. All he needed to do was add a few more spices and put it in the oven.
He hoped Yugi would be ok with Slifer, he seems to be a really sweet snake and Layla loved him. He never heard of a snake being cuddly but he wasn't complaining. He mused as he pushed the pan of lasagna into the hot oven. He remembered coming downstairs one night and found Slifer curled loosely around Layla watching the Jungle Book.
"Daddy! Daddy! Yugi's here ! Yugi's here!" Layla yelled as she ran through the house, dragging a soaking wet Yugi into the kitchen behind her.
Atem was jolted out of his thoughts by his tiny daughter running through the house yelling and soaking wet.
Her normally curly, pigtails were hanging down past her shoulders dripping and making a puddle on the floor, and Yugi's normally spiky hair was now a mess. It was about as long as Layla's hair is when it is dry. It was so wet that it flattened down Yugi's back.
"I'm sorry Yugi, if I had known it was raining this hard I would have opened the garage for you so you didn't have to walk in the rain." Atem apologized to him.
"I'm fine, don't worry about it," Yugi smiled sweetly.
("Keep Yugi company. I'm going to go get towels and a change of clothes for the both of you. Next time wait for me before charging out when its raining ok pumpkin?")
("Yes daddy I'm sorry.") Layla mumbled.
("It's ok just don't do it again.")
"I'll be right back. I'm going to get some towels for you guys and some dry clothes." Atem told Yugi.
Yugi's face broke out in a bright red blush. "Oh you um no you don't have to do that." Yugi stumbled over his words as his teeth chattered together.
"Yugi, your teeth are chattering together. It's no trouble at all." Atem said kindly.
"If you insist." Yugi sighed.
"I do, I'll be right back," Atem smirked before retreating to find his daughter and Yugi dry clothes and some towels.
Atem returned a minute later with towels and dry clothes for the both of them Layla took her towel from him, claiming that she's a big girl and wants to dry and dress herself. Atem said ok and told her to use the downstairs bathroom to change in. She then walked off to go change, leaving Atem and Yugi alone in the kitchen.
"Here you go, you can use my bathroom to change in. Once you've changed, bring me your wet clothes and I'll have them washed and dried before you go home tonight." Atem said softly as he handed the smaller man a towel and a pair of pants and shirt of Atem's for him to wear until his clothes were dry.
Yugi's face broke out in a blush. "Oh no you don't have to do that." He said hastily.
"Don't worry about it, little one, it's really no trouble." Atem smiled softly at him."
"Al-Alright thank you."
As Atem and Yugi were talking, Layla had turned on the TV in the living room and was watching cartoons. Just then a message flashed across the bottom of the tv screen.
The little girl walked back into the kitchen over to Atem and tugged on his shirt ("Daddy, there is something on tv.")
Atem and Yugi turned their attention to the little girl tugging on her father's shirt.
Atem knelt down in front of her. ("Yes pumpkin what is it?")
("Daddy my cartoons are gone and words are on the screen,") Layla said slowly as she pointed into the living room at the tv.
Atem walked into the living room. A news broadcaster came on a minute later saying that the storm was getting worse and that only emergency vehicles were allowed on the roads now.
"Well I guess you're staying the night. The storm is too bad. The only vehicles that are allowed out are emergency vehicles. Instead of just drying off you can take a shower in my bathroom. While you're in the shower I'll give Miss Layla here, her bath. Dinner is already in the oven. It should be done by the time you and Layla are done with lessons," Atem said to Yugi who was standing next to him.
Yugi tried to protest but was shut down immediately.
"It's no trouble at all and no you're not a bother. Anything else sweetheart?"
Yugi's cheeks were dusted in a cute pink blush but he didn't say anything, he just pouted and glared at Atem.
Atem laughed loudly., "Let's go little one, I'll show you how to work my shower, and you can use my body wash and shampoo. There's also Lay's shampoo but I don't think you wanna go around smelling like a cupcake."
"No, that's ok. I'm alright with using your stuff." Yugi giggled softly at Atem.
Atem showed Yugi how to work the faucets and gave him some towels , soap, shampoo and conditioner and a washcloth.
"Thank you Atem, I appreciate it," Yugi said softly
"You are welcome, Jamil, it's no trouble at all. I'll be in Layla's bathroom filling the tub for her bath if you need anything just holler. Atem said
Yugi nodded , thanked him again and softly shut the door. He turned the shower on, took off his clothes and got in. As he was washing his hair he felt something slide over his foot. He looked down and screamed loudly when he saw Slifer in the shower with him.
Atem barged into the bathroom "Are you alright ?" Atem asked him eyes wide with worry.
Yugi moved the shower curtain in front of him quickly to hide his naked body. "Atem there is a very large snake in your bathtub with me, Yugi whispered softly, terrified out of his mind.
"Calm down little one it's ok he won't hurt you he's tame. This is Slifer, he's Lay's new pet. He likes the warm water. If it's alright with you I can take him out and put him back in his tank."
Yugi nodded his head slowly. "S-Sure," he spoke shakily. He was still a bit scared even though Atem said he is gentle.
Atem leaned over the tub and scooped Slifer up. "I'm sorry he scared you, " He said to Yugi after he got the snake out of the tub.
"It's ok he just startled me. I actually love snakes," Yugi said as he adjusted the curtain so it hid more of his naked body. He then reached out to pet Slifer gently.
The bright red snake noticed Yugi's hand come over and pet him. He raised his head and pushed against Yugi's hand wanting more. Yugi giggled softly at this action.
"Well I better go give Lay her bath from the way the storm is moving in. I'd rather give her a bath now than later just in case we lose power. I'll take your dirty clothes and wash them for you."
Instead of arguing with him Yugi just said ok. Atem gathered up Yugi's dirty clothes and put them in the washer with his and Layla's clothes. He then walked back to Layla's bathroom. He checked the water and made sure it wasn't too hot and plugged the tub up.
Atem walked back into Layla's bedroom. He walked over to where she was sitting on the floor playing with her princess toy train set Kaiba and Joey got her for her last birthday. He walked over to where knelt down next to her and tapped her on the shoulder. The little girl took her clothes off and got in the tub.
After he washed her hair, he let her play in the tub for a little bit.
("Hey Lay can daddy ask you a question?")
("Yes daddy what is it?")
("You like Yugi right?" )
Layla smiled widely. ("Yes daddy I like Yugi lots. He's very nice to me and teaches me cool things. He said since it almost my birthday he's gonna get me something really cool.")
("That's awesome sweetie! What I wanted to know is, what would you think If i was to ask Yugi out? Would that upset you?") Atem asked his daughter carefully.
("What does that mean daddy?")
("Well I like Yugi alot and I want to get to know him more and the way grown-ups who are in a relationship spend time together sometimes we go to a restaurant or sometimes a walk in the park and they see if they like each other enough to get married.")
Layla's smile brightened even more. ("Oh ok. My friend Sarah from school said I need a mommy, can I ask Yugi to be my mommy?")
("Um no sweetie at least not yet. I need to talk to him first.")
("But daddy I want Yugi to be new mommy. All the other girls at school has a don't I has one?") Layla asked him, her sharp candy apple eyes welling up with tears.
Atem's heart broke hearing his little girl talk like that. He didn't want to tell Layla that her mom left her at the hospital. He picked her up out of the tub, wrapped the towel around her and sat her on his lap and hugged her tightly.
("I can't answer that right now, but one day when you are old enough, I will tell you why you don't have a mommy. But I promise you that I will alway be here for you no matter what.") Atem said, kissing the top of her head.
("Daddy, are you still going to ask Yugi out ?")
("Would you be ok with me asking Yugi out on a date?")
("Yes daddy I like Yugi alot. He's nice and gives nice hugs.")
Atem smiled ,drained the tub and helped Layla dry off.
("Go to your room and get changed into your jammies ok sweetie? Then come downstairs so I can brush your hair, oh don't touch Slifer's tank. He keeps getting out somehow. I'll be downstairs in the living room ok sweetie?")
"(OK daddy.") she said, then kissed his cheek as she walked into her room.
About an hour later Atem went upstairs, to find Layla looking around the room for something while Yugi sat at her desk with some type of flash cards in different piles on it.
"Hey what's going on?" Atem asked.
"Hey, we are just playing a game I made up for Layla." Yugi smiled softly.
"What kind of game?" Atem asked the smaller man.
"It's an educational game I made up. I've hidden 26 flashcards around the room for Layla to find. On each card is the picture of someone signing a letter of the alphabet."
"Once she finds one she gives it to me and tells me what the letter on the card is verbally without signing, then have her sign it back to me and then tell me what the letter is on the card. She's a very bright little girl. So far she only got 5 wrong. I think that's pretty impressive for a two and a half year old."
"Yugi, that's amazing ,you're brilliant! Thank you so much for doing this for me and for Lay. If it wasn't for you she would still be struggling. I can't thank you enough." Atem said whole heartedly.
Yugi's face flushed bright red. He is not used to such praise. "Um, thank you. I thought to myself, how can I help her learn without her losing interest. So I made a game out of it. We even do it in my classes too.
"All kids like to play games. So I make games out of their lessons. It keeps them entertained and they're learning at the same time. It's a win-win situation. They are having fun and learning at the same time." Yugi smiled.
"I also got her a gift for her birthday. I noticed how much she liked the I Spy books we got from the library. Well I found them on a computer game. I got her Spooky Mansion and Treasure Hunt."
"You didn't have to do that, Yugi." Atem said, smiling sweetly at the smaller man.
"I wanted to. She's a great kid. You're very lucky. Yugi said, trying to hide his blush.
"She really is. I'm glad she's making progress. Once you and Lay are done with her lesson, come to the dining room ,dinner is almost done. Atem smiled at Yugi making him blush softly.
Alright well she's looking for the last card now so it shouldn't be too much longer. Why don't you sit here and let Laya show you what she's learned." Yugi said, smiling as he patted the chair next to him.
"Alright." Atem smiled back at him and sat down next to Yugi.
A few minutes later Layla came back with a big smile on her face. ("Daddy Yugi, I finded the last card.")
("Good job, Now what letter is on the card?") Yugi asked her.
("Ummm S ?") Layla questioned, unsure if that was the right answer or not.
("Close, it's the letter T. So instead of having your thumb over your fingers but it in between your pointer and middle finger like this.") Yugi said as he positioned his fingers as he showed her how to do it properly.
("Now without my help, can you make the letter T?")
("Yea.") she said, as she made a fist and placed her thumb between her pointer and middle fingers. ("Like this right?")
("Yes! Excellent good job Lay.") Yugi praised the little girl giving her a hi-five.
("I'm so proud of you sweetie." ) Atem said as he scooped her up into his arms and peppered her little face with kisses, making the little girl squeal with laughter. Atem put her down and they headed downstairs to the dining room for dinner.
Atem picked her up and sat her down in her chair. He walked back into the kitchen and brought out a steaming pan of lasagna with a tray of garlic bread.
"It smells amazing," Yugi said.
"Thank you, I made it myself . I made everything from scratch. Once I found out I was a father, I wanted the best for my daughter so once I was able to bring her home I started looking into gardening and hunting and everything else. I like to know where my food comes from." Atem said serviring Layla a piece and cutting it up for her.
("Blow on it, it's still a little hot.") Atem told her.
("Thank you daddy.") the little girl said smiling
(" You're welcome sweetheart.")
"Oh my god this is so good. You always make such good food" Yugi moaned after taking a bite of the lasagna.
"Thank you and you're welcome. It's called Neapolitan Lasagna. It's made with ricotta cheese, sauce, meatballs and sausage. My mother's recipe. I'm half Egyptian and half Italian so my mother taught me everything she knew. I also have some wine in the fridge. Would you like a glass? I wanted to try something new so I chose Rosso Dolce."
Yugi smirked at Atem. " That's my favorite wine"
Atem blinked," it is ? I honestly didn't know that. I got it because it was something different and I love sweet wines."
"Hmm," Yugi smiled. "In that case I would love a glass."
Atem grinned at him. I'll go pour us a glass. He then walked into the kitchen to pour himself and Yugi a glass.
"Thank you." Yugi said with a smile.
"Your welcome jamil." Atem smiled back at him.
Yugi looked at him strangely. "What does that mean?"
he asked Atem."
"That's for me to know and you to find out." Atem smirked at him.
Yugi just furrowed his eyebrows trying to figure out what Atem said to him.
"After dinner Atem told Layla he was going to do the dishes and once he was done he would come up and tuck her in.
Yugi helped him clear the table of everything except their wine glasses and brought it into the kitchen where Atem was washing the dishes.
He had his bluetooth speaker playing . Yugi walked over and placed the dishes in the sink. As a new song started playing, Atem got excited and grabbed the shorter man's hand and pulled him into his arms.
"This is one of my favorite songs. Will you dance with me jamil?" Atem asked him with an excited smile on his gorgeous face.
"Alright, alright." Yugi laughed and he let Atem twirled him around the kitchen to the song I Just Want to Dance With You by George Strait as the song played Atem twirled Yugi around the kitchen. He made the smaller man in his arms laugh as he dipped him.
Yugi's face broke out in a fierce blush as he realized how they ended up when the song ended, his arms were around Atem's neck and Atem's strong arms were around Yugi's petit waist , holding him so he didn't fall.
"You're so beautiful." Atem murmured as he brushed a stray hair out of Yugi's face and tucked it behind his ear. "I've been wanting to kiss you for a while now."
"So why haven't you?" Yugi playfully whispered.
"I was afraid of ruining our friendship if you didn't feel the same."
Yugi smiled sweetly at the taller man. "Kiss me please."
Atem grinned ear to ear. He pulled Yugi close to his body and closed the distance between them, pressing their lips together in a sweet kiss. Atem grazed Yugi's bottom lip with his tongue. To his surprise Yugi opened his mouth up.
Atem slipped his tongue inside Yugi's mouth. He could taste the wine on Yugi's tongue they had earlier . To him Yugi tasted like sweet, juicy blackberries with just a hint of alcohol on his breath. The kiss was soft and sweet, but was quickly getting heated. His hands slithered down Yugi's back and down to his ass.
Yugi gasped into Atem's mouth as his two big hands squeezed his ass cheeks and lifted him to rest on the taller man's hips as they continued kissing.
The smaller man groaned softly and threw his head back in pleasure, as Atem ground his erection into Yugi's.
"Do you want this?" Atem asked him as he nipped down Yugi's neck.
"What am I to you?" Yugi whispered against Atem's soft lips.
Atem sat him on the counter and looked him in the eyes as he cupped Yugi's soft face and spoke softly. "Well I'd love for you to be my boyfriend. I care about you very much. I know we just met a few weeks ago but I wanted to be honest with you. I'm not trying to scare you. I'm crazy about you and Layla is too and she hasn't liked any of my ex's. Do you still want this? Do you like me as much as I like you?" Atem asked him. Hope shining in his garnet eyes.
"Yes I would love to be your boyfriend. I care about you and Layla too." Yugi mumbled against Atem's lips as he drew him into another kiss.
"You're mine now no other man is allowed to have you, I am a very possessive man." Atem growled into his ear.
"God's yess." Yugi gasped as Atem bit down on a particularly sensitive spot on his neck.
Atem's eyes darkened from a ruby red to a more wine red; the lust in his eyes was evident as he spoke. "Ok go upstairs, lay on my bed and wait for me But I want you to keep your clothes on. I want the pleasure of taking your clothes off." Atem whispered in his ear.
Yugi's face heated up with a dark scarlet blush and then drew Atem into another kiss, which then turned into another makeout session.
"Ok, I'm gonna go say goodnight to Lay then I will be waiting for you." Yugi purred after finally pulling away from Atem.
"Alright habibi I'm going to finish cleaning up. I won't be long I promise." Atem whispered against Yugi's chapped lips as he kissed him deeply again making the smaller man giggle.
"Atem, If you keep kissing me like that we are going to wind up naked on your kitchen floor." Yugi said with a smile on his face.
"That doesn't sound like such a bad thing." Atem smirked, running his large hands down to Yugi's ass and squeezed his cheeks again, making the smaller man moan into Atem's mouth as he drew him in for another kiss.
"Ok ." "I am going upstairs to say goodnight to Layla then I'll be waiting for you in your room." Yugi breathed with a smile on his face and his hands on Atem's chest.
"Alright sweetheart I'll see you up there shortly," Atem said, grabbing Yugi's hands and kissing them softly.
A soft pink blush graced Yugi's soft features. Atem let Yugi's hands so and kissed his cheek sweetly. Yugi's blush darkened.
Atem chuckled at how cute the smaller man was as he watched Yugi walk out of the kitchen. He turned back around and finished cleaning up the kitchen.
Yugi walked up to Layla's bedroom and flicked the light in the little girl's bedroom to let her know that he's coming in. He took a quick peek into her room and realized she wasn't in there. Yugi figured she must be in her playroom.
Yugi took a peek into her playroom and found her asleep in her toy box cuddling a stuffed purple elephant with her thumb in her mouth. Yugi smiled softly. He walks over to the sleeping toddler and gathers her in his arms.
He carried her back into her room and placed the little girl into her pink princess castle bed, and kissed her on the forehead. He gently took out her red and purple hearing aids. shut them off and placed them on her bedside table. The smaller man whispered a goodnight. Turning on her teddy bear night light he softly shut the door as he walked out.
