That night, Hope came home from the hospital. Marsha was overjoyed. She made everyone their favorite dinners. Trudy came in right when Marsha finished the chicken Cacciatori.
"Mom," Trudy asked in amazement, "Did you make all this?"
"I did," Marsha replied laughing.
"Mom," Trudy pointed out, "You're pregnant."
"I know I'm pregnant honey," Marsha replied.
Just then Aimee started crying.
"Sounds like a hungry cry," Marsha said, "I've got her."
She went upstairs to feed Aimee.
"So Hope," Dwight asked, "Are you excited about your birthday?"
"I really am," Hope said, "And grandma is an amazing cook. She cooks everything really well."
"What do you think of having the party at Fun Zone," Dwight asked Trudy and Adrian spelling out the words Fun Zone.
"Great idea," Trudy said, "But why are we spelling the words Fun Zone?"
"Because the kids love Fun Zone. If you guys said no I wouldn't want them to be disappointed."
"I can spell," Hope said laughing.
Dwight looked stunned.
"How did you learn that," he asked.
"Jenny taught me," Hope replied.
"Can you spell Disney," Ella asked.
Hope correctly spelled the word.
Jenny Dalton was the babysitter of Hope, Ella, and Ava. Ever since the babies were born, Adrian and Trudy hardly ever left the house. When they did, in an emergency or the occasional date Marsha and Dwight were always there. Jenny hadn't helped with the babies yet, but she had come over a few times to meet them and hold them.
"You're really smart," Ella told Hope.
Hope grinned.
"Thanks," she said.
Marsha came downstairs and sat down to dinner.
"Grandma," Ava said, "Thank you for making everything we like."
"Of course honey," Marsha smiled.
After they finished dinner Adrian cleaned up. By the time he was done, the kitchen was spotless. Later Trudy, Adrian, and Marsha sat outside by the pool while Dwight stayed with the girls.
"Mom," Trudy said, "I hope you know how grateful I am for what you've done for us. Not just this latest thing but for everything you've done for us."
"It's nothing," Marsha replied, "You put my life back together when we found out you were still alive."
"That was 3 years ago," Trudy pointed out.
"It may as well have been today," Marsha and Adrian said in unison.
"I know," Trudy admitted, "I just worry about taking advantage."
"That would be impossible," Marsha laughed.
Just then, Monk's cell phone rang.
"It's Leland," he said, "I need to take it."
Trudy motioned for him to take the call.
"Hi Leland," Adrian said.
"Monk," Leland began, "It's Jenny Dalton. We just got a call. Her mother found her dead in her bedroom."
We're going to need a new babysitter, Monk thought to himself.
His second thought was, how the hell am I going to tell the kids?
He took a breath.
"Do we have a Cause of Death," he asked.
"It looks like strangulation," Leland said.
