Chapter 14
As the crystal floated toward Yumikaya, The spectre spoke calmly.
" Attune the crystal to you. Add it to your lightsaber. "
" Can I have more than one crystal in my lightsaber? " Yumikaya looked surprised as she reached out and closed her hand around the crystal as the spectre chuckled and spoke.
" Indeed. There was once a Jedi that had three in her lightsaber. "
" Interesting... Does having more crystals make it a better lightsaber? " Yumikaya sat down and placed the small crystal on the floor as the spectre sat across from her and spoke.
" I would say that it depends on who uses it. My crystal however, Will make your lightsaber unusable to anyone else. The blade will also produce energy discharges along the length. Even should you miss your opponent, Electric discharge can be quite painful. "
" Yeah... Slave collars do that too... " Yumikaya rubbed her neck gently as the spectre sighed and spoke.
" Discussion for another time. For now, Attune the crystal. "
As the spectre waited, Yumikaya closed her eyes before breathing as she focused on the crystal. After roughly thirty minutes, The crystal rose into the air and began pulsing softly, Mimicking the rhythm of Yumikaya's heartbeat, As her Permafrost crystal had done. Whereas her Permafrost crystal had glowed brightly, This crystal glowed with a seething mixture of black and blood red energy.
As the crystal floated back to the ground, Yumikaya sighed exhaustively before the spectre spoke again.
" Excellent. It is attuned. The crystal is called Bane's Heart. Named so, After me. I was once known as Darth Bane. "
" I don't have much knowledge of the past. Other than my own. " Yumikaya glanced away sheepishly as Bane spoke again.
" That is the second part of my being here. Bind me to yourself through the Force. I will share all of my knowledge with you. "
" Will it hurt? " Yumikaya wilted slightly before Bane chuckled and spoke.
" Binding a Force Ghost to you is not a feeling I can describe. But no, I do not think it will be painful. "
" It kind of feels like you have been with me for a while to be honest... " Yumikaya spoke with a shaky tone and seemed tense but relaxed as Bane chuckled softly.
" I have been with you since you touched the holocron. The ordeal you went through in your mind allowed me to escape the holocron and take refuge within you. However, It is not an optimal situation. Binding me to you is much more beneficial. "
" Can't argue with that. How do we do that though? " Yumikaya looked confused as Bane laughed heartily before speaking.
" You remind me of my apprentice. Zannah was so eager to learn yet always seemed to doubt herself. "
" I doubt myself a lot actually. There is so much inside me that I do not understand. " Yumikaya sighed irritably but relaxed again as Bane chuckled and spoke.
" All in good time little one. For now, The binding. Reach out to me with the Force as I will reach out to you. "
Yumikaya nodded before closing her eyes as she reached out with the Force.
Meanwhile
" I am still surprised that you left her there alone. " Kalina spoke with shock in her voice before Zanira sighed and spoke calmly.
" Not by any choice of mine. I haven't been able to enter the temple since I learned it's secrets. " Zanira sighed before gasping loudly as a ripple echoed through the Force, Causing Yumitaya to rush over to her and speak with fear in her voice.
" What was that... It felt so dark... So angry... " Yumitaya trembled slightly before Yumikaya's lightsaber yanked itself out of her hand and flew into the house before flying down the tunnel as Zanira and Yumitaya ran after it. After following the lightsaber into the tunnel, They watched as it flew into the temple before the entryway sealed itself as Yumitaya spoke.
" How will sis get out? " Yumitaya looked up at Zanira with worry in her eyes as Zanira sighed softly.
" She will be fine sweetheart. Go play with Kalina. I'll wait here for Kaya. " Zanira smiled reassuringly as Yumitaya nodded and ran back through the tunnel as Zanira turned to look at the temple again.
The Temple
" An... Interesting design. The crystal is unique aswell. " Bane examined Yumikaya's lightsaber as she held it up before speaking calmly.
" It's a Permafrost crystal. Only I can use it. " Yumikaya smiled before opening her lightsaber and carefully placing Bane's Heart into it next to her Permafrost crystal. After closing her hilt, Yumikaya activated her lightsaber before gasping as she noticed the blade had changed. The blade now had an almost black core with a deep blood red glow around the core surrounded by an icy blue at the edge of the blade. Along the blade, Blood red energy bolts arced randomly as Bane spoke.
" Now that we are bound together and your lightsaber changed, We should return to your family. They will have questions. "
" Half expected them to follow me if I'm being honest. Especially my sister. " Yumikaya stood before leaving the temple as Bane disappeared. After walking back to the tunnel entrance, Yumikaya smiled as she saw Zanira waiting for her. After hugging Yumikaya gently, Zanira spoke softly.
" What did you find? " Zanira looked concerned before Yumikaya shook her head and spoke.
" Not here. Everyone should see. " Yumikaya smiled as Zanira nodded before they walked back to the house. After stepping outside, Yumikaya smiled as Yumitaya, Shae, Atali, Deshla, Savii and Kalina walked over before Zanira spoke softly.
" Okay, What do you have to show us? " Zanira smiled but her smile faltered as Yumikaya backed away before igniting her lightsaber. " Kaya... "
" I found a crystal. That's what the voice was leading me to. I put it in my lightsaber. The crystal is called Bane's Heart. Which... Leads me back to the voice... " Yumikaya smiled nervously as Bane materialised behind her before speaking.
" Saying it like that, People might think you are going mad. "
" Who... " Zanira stepped back as everyone looked toward Bane as she continued. " Kaya... Who is that? "
" Bane, This is my mother, Zanira. Mother, This is Darth Bane. " Yumikaya giggled before Zanira spoke sternly.
" You are the darkness and anger I felt. Why are you here? " Zanira had a cautious look on her face as Yumikaya smiled sheepishly.
" Yeah... About that... Don't be mad... " Yumikaya wilted slightly as Zanira looked toward her before Bane spoke calmly.
" I am bonded to her. There can be discussion on that later. I have much to teach you little one. Call upon me when you are ready to start. "
" Yeah. I'll let you know. " Yumikaya sighed as Bane disappeared before Zanira spoke sternly.
" Kaya... " Zanira had a disappointed look on her face before she noticed that Yumikaya was looking toward her with fear before she sighed and spoke softly as she stepped forward. " You did well. Sith ghosts aside, Let me see your blade again. "
" You... You aren't angry? " Yumikaya wilted slightly and looked away but sighed as Zanira caressed her cheek gently before speaking.
" Darling, Why would I be angry? You surprised me. I do mistrust that Sith ghost but... As long as he doesn't hurt you then I will tolerate him. " Zanira smiled reassuringly as Yumikaya nuzzled against her hand gently before speaking.
" I was scared... I thought you would be furious... " Yumikaya sighed softly as Zanira giggled before speaking.
" Even if I was, I couldn't stay angry after hearing you call me mother. Twice. " Zanira giggled as Yumikaya blushed before stepping back and turning away as she spoke.
" Sh... Shut up... It just... Slipped out... " Yumikaya whimpered softly before Zanira put her arms around her and hugged her lovingly.
" My sweet darling, You need never be embarrassed about expressing yourself. " Zanira held Yumikaya lovingly as Yumikaya struggled to free herself, Causing Zanira to not notice the fighter landing nearby. As Yumikaya managed to free herself, Zanira giggled happily before speaking. " Oh come now sweetheart. Surely my hugs aren't so bad? "
" I never complained. "
Zanira froze as the voice she heard sunk in before turning slowly to see Satele looking toward her with a smile. " H... Hey... "
" You... " Zanira growled softly before rushing forward as the blaster flew off Kalina's belt before Zanira caught it, Tripped Satele and pinned her arms before pressing the blaster to her throat as she spoke. " Well, Well... I caught a little Nexu... "
" Zanira, Wait! She... " Kalina froze and felt silent as Zanira glared toward her angrily before turning back to Satele.
" Stay right here little Nexu. " Zanira got up and tossed the blaster back to Kalina before walking into the house as Satele breathed slowly. After a moment, Zanira walked out of the house holding a long lightsaber hilt as she spoke. " You owe me a fight. The last one we had got interrupted. "
" Zanira please... " Satele stood slowly as a pained look appeared on her face.
" Fight me Jedi. " Zanira had a stern expression on her face before activating her lightsaber, Showing a pair of fiery orange blades as Satele drew and ignited her lightsaber before rushing forward. As their blades clashed, everyone walked over to stand with Yumikaya as she spoke.
" Should we stop them Kalina? " Yumikaya had a concerned look on her face as she looked toward Kalina, Who shook her head slowly before speaking.
" Don't recommend it. Besides, They need this. " Kalina giggled as everyone watched for several minutes before Zanira managed to disarm Satele before tripping her and pinning her. As Satele looked panicked, Zanira lowered her blade close to Satele's face as she spoke.
" Look at you now. Helpless. Defenceless. Whatever am I going to do with you... " Zanira smiled maliciously as Satele spoke softly.
" Please... " Satele breathed softly as Zanira's lightsaber deactivated before she leant down and kissed Satele gently, Causing her to blush brightly before Zanira pulled away and giggled softly.
" Just like on Ord Mantell. You are still predictable Satele. " Zanira giggled playfully as Satele looked like she was going to explode before speaking.
" You little... You scared me... " Satele sighed softly as Zanira leant down and kissed her again before Kalina cleared her throat, Causing Zanira to sit upright rapidly and blush brightly as she spoke nervously.
" Oh... Right... Not alone... " Zanira giggled nervously before gasping as Satele slapped her, Causing her to fall backwards as Satele spoke as tears ran down her face.
" That's for trying to kill me last time! " Satele rolled forward and pinned Zanira before seizing her shirt and pulling her upwards, Kissing her deeply as she blushed. As Satele pulled away, Zanira gasped breathlessly before Satele spoke again. " I have missed you every day since then. My heart broke when I woke up and you weren't there. Do you have any idea how I have longed for you? How much I have wanted to leave the order and find you? "
" Satele... I... I don't know what to say here... " Zanira had a nervous look on her face as Satele let go of her shirt and spoke shakily.
" You can tell me the truth. Please... Please tell me... " Satele sobbed softly as Zanira caressed her cheek gently before continuing. " My heart can't take it anymore... Please tell me... "
" Satele... Ofcourse I do. I always have. I wasn't myself when we last fought but ofcourse I still love you. I always will. " Zanira smiled as Satele smiled despite crying before leaning her head against Zanira's as she continued sobbing. After a moment, Everyone looked shocked as Bane materialised and spoke.
" A Sith and a Jedi? Such a thing would have been unspeakable in my time. How things have changed. "
" You say it like it's a bad thing. " Yumikaya had a concerned look on her face before Bane sighed and spoke again.
" Hardly. Change is inevitable. Even if those changes are... Unsettling. "
" I see. This reminds me... I would like to start training. " Yumikaya smiled as Bane chuckled approvingly.
" Very well. Return to the temple. "
Yumikaya nodded as Bane disappeared before walking back through the house and following the tunnel that lead to the temple. After several minutes of walking, Yumikaya entered the main hall of the temple to see Bane waiting for her. As she approached, Bane spoke calmly.
" Show me your skill. Use anything you know to defeat the spectres. "
As Bane finished speaking, Several spectres appeared before Yumikaya ignited her lightsaber.
A Few Hours Later
" Your technique isn't bad. But that doesn't make it good either. Precision and perspective are important. You must learn to anticipate your opponents movements before they make them. "
" How am I supposed to see what happens before it happens? " Yumikaya looked confused as she deactivated her lightsaber while Bane spoke.
" While the future always shifts, The Force can show you glimpses of what may come to pass. Focus on your opponent. Let the Force be your eyes. "
Yumikaya sighed softly before sitting down and closing her eyes and breathing slowly. After several minutes, Yumikaya saw a glimpse of Satele speaking angrily before she snapped back to reality with a loud gasp.
" What you see will take time and patience to understand. While you should not dismiss it, You also should not rush to understand it. Visions like this are often vague and misinterpreting them can be disastrous. "
" To hear someone so dark speaking of disaster so lightly is surprising. " Satele spoke calmly as she walked into the temple before Bane spoke coolly.
" That is not what you came here to say. Speak your mind Jedi. "
" It is simply that I wonder what you want with her. Why you chose to attach yourself to her. " Satele had an impatient look on her face as Bane huffed disinterestedly before speaking.
" You surprise me Jedi. For someone who demanded her choices not be coerced, You are far too interested in her teachings. "
" You didn't answer my question. " Satele spoke irritably before Bane sighed and spoke.
" This discussion serves no purpose Jedi. My intent and interest in her is not for you to know. You may leave. "
" Do not dismiss me! I am concerned for her safety and you will answer me! " Satele spoke angrily as Yumikaya motioned to speak before Bane growled before speaking irritably.
" Enough. You are not needed. Begone. "
As Bane finished speaking, He raised his hand, Causing wind to explode through the temple, Effortlessly lifting Satele off her feet and carrying her out of the temple and back through the tunnel before throwing her out of the house, Landing face down into the snow and growling irritably.
After a few moments of silence, Yumikaya spoke softly. " I do admit... I am curious why you chose me. "
" Because you intrigue me. When you touched my holocron I saw into the depths of your mind. While you are still young and undisciplined, Surviving your childhood speaks volumes of the strength within you. "
" But what do you expect of me? " Yumikaya looked nervous as Bane laughed softly before speaking calmly.
" I am one with the Force child. I have no interest in making you a puppet if that is your concern. I simply wish to pass my teachings and power on to you so it is not lost to history, Or worse, Jedi hypocrisy. While you are ignorant to what you are, I am not. The moment I was bound to you I learned everything about you. The past... " Bane paused as flashes of memory from her time as a slave filled Yumikaya's mind for a moment. " Present... " Bane paused again as flashes of Savii, Deshla and Atali filled Yumikaya's mind before he spoke a third time. " But the future is... Odd. While many people have one or two paths ahead of them they could take, Your future is... Unknowable. You could be darkness incarnate, Spreading death and desolation with every footstep. You could turn to the light, Joining the Jedi and their hypocritical rhetoric. Or you could take the most interesting path before you. The path that will make you neither dark nor light yet both. A path that will show you who and what you are the longer you tread upon it. "
" It would taste a lie to say that those options are not all tempting... I can feel the darkness pulling at my mind, Urging me to give in and walk the path that you did. " Yumikaya groaned softly as her marks flickered meekly. " But I can't... I did so much that I regret... I even... " Yumikaya froze as Bane leant forward and spoke, Within an inch of her face.
" Assaulted your lover. Made her feel like she was a simple toy. Made her feel like a mere object. I told you. I know everything about you. As for the darkness, It is not simply mine. It is yours aswell. While this... Malgus... Tortured you, Experimented on you, Even cut you open and put you back together, His work was sloppy. Amateurish. Clumsy. Had I done such work, You would have been perfection embodied. That however does not interest me. "
" What does interest you then? All this is just so confusing... " Yumikaya sighed before rubbing her head gently as Bane chuckled before speaking.
" What interests me is you. What you will choose, What you will achieve, What you will cause. That is all that concerns me. You. "
" Am I really so special? " Yumikaya looked away sadly as Bane chuckled and spoke.
" You have no idea how special you are. Now, You have yet to really use the Force. While escaping your cage as a child was a useful trick, You did so subconsciously. I will teach you to use it at will. We will start with something simple. "
Bane paused before a large boulder, Easily weighing enough to crush Yumikaya, Floated over before landing in front of Yumikaya with a loud thud as Bane spoke.
" Lift the rock. "
" WHAT?! It's bigger than me! How am I supposed t... " Yumikaya froze as Bane rushed toward and spoke, His face within an inch of hers, Causing the glow of his eyes to light up her face as he spoke.
" Lift. The. Rock. "
" But... " Yumikaya wilted as Bane glared toward her, Sending waves of dread through her entire body before Yumikaya whimpered and raised her hand toward the boulder before reaching out through the Force. After several moments of the boulder not moving, Yumikaya growled loudly as frustration filled her, Causing the boulder to tremble before exploding in a cloud of dust and rubble as Bane spoke.
" As I said, You have no idea how special you are. You are filled with rage and hatred yet it does not consume you. It gives you power and strength but does not blind you. "
" Is that a good thing? " Yumikaya looked confused as Bane chuckled.
" It is neither good nor bad. It is, However, Advantageous. Such an advantage will allow you to tread the line between light and dark without giving in to either. "
" Like that path you mentioned. Both yet neither. " Yumikaya giggled happily as Bane used the Force to tousle her hair before speaking.
" It is good to know my efforts will not be wasted little one. Let us start your training with lightsaber finesse. Your technique is so... Single minded. "
" Satele taught me. And Orgus. " Yumikaya grinned impishly as Bane made a disgusted noise before speaking.
" The Jedi. Ofcourse they taught you such narrow technique. No matter. I will perfect you. Activate your blade. "
Yumikaya nodded before standing and taking her lightsaber off her belt before activating it and waiting as Bane spoke calmly.
" Now then. Form one. "
Nightfall
" Much better. Form two. "
" But I am exhausted... Can't I do form two tomorrow... " Yumikaya groaned before growled as Bane walked around her as he made a disgusted noise.
" How those Jedi have pampered you. Do you think I rested? Do you think Zannah rested? "
" I... I don't... Uhm... " Yumikaya gasped as Bane lifted her into the air with the Force as he spoke.
" If it wouldn't shatter you entirely, I would torture you for such a weakness. But pain is not my goal. No, Pain would teach you nothing. Well... Not your pain anyway. So how about this. Every time you fail, Every time you speak of exhaustion or being tired, Every time you complain, I will torture your little girlfriend. "
" That's not fair! " Yumikaya growled angrily before Bane made an amused noise and spoke.
" Life isn't fair girl. "
" But... I don't want to see her hurt... Please... " Yumikaya froze as she was forced to her knees by the Force as Bane spoke angrily.
" DO NOT BEG! "
" But I... " Yumikaya groaned painfully as her entire body was pressed against the floor, As if a starship had landed on her as Bane spoke again.
" Act like a slave again and I will make you beg for a slave collar. The pain I can cause will make that collar a pleasure. Get up. "
Yumikaya sighed loudly before growling and speaking as a wave of rage and bloodlust emanated from her. " If you so much as move a hair on Atali's head, I will incinerate every blasted trace of you from every inch of existence. "
" YES! Rage! Hatred! Bloodlust! Use them! They are a source of magnificent strength! Feed on that source. Fuel yourself with it! "
" You said you didn't want to make me a puppet. " Yumikaya growled menacingly as Bane laughed heartily before speaking.
" And I was honest. A puppet is no use to me. Even Zannah was not a puppet. Despite her consuming need to prove herself to me. No. Not a puppet. I want to make you a force of nature. "
" You are exhausting you know that? " Yumikaya gasped and covered her mouth as Bane glared at her warningly before a panicked looked appeared on her face and she spoke quickly. " NO! That wasn't... "
" Silence. I will let that one slide. ONE. Now, Form two. "
Five Days Later
" As I said, Perfection. Your technique is flawless. Even that pretentious Grand Master will not best you now. Next, I will teach you strategy. This, Will take longer. Strategy is not simply a tool. It is a way of seeing things. A way of seeing others. Use it as such and you will find very few situations will surprise you. "
" Where do we start? " Yumikaya looked half dead as she sighed before Bane spoke.
" Strategy and warfare are a form of art young one. To learn them, I will create scenarios and you will devise solutions. "
Yumikaya groaned irritably before freezing as Bane glared toward her before putting her hands over her mouth and nodding quickly.
Six Days Later
" Resolve the situation. "
" It's complicated! I need to think! " Yumikaya sighed irritably as the temples holo-projectors paused while Bane spoke.
" Quick thinking is a trait all leaders and strategists must employ. Now, Resolve the situation. "
" Alright! Alright... Well... " Yumikaya thought for a moment as she stared at the projection before speaking quickly. " Okay. If the dreadnought turns and angles itself so the lower hull is facing the enemy, Then power all shields to the lower hull, It will create a wall. Then, The bombers and fighter escort can use the surrounding debris field for cover to get close and attack the enemy. "
" Interesting. Let us see. "
Bane and Yumikaya watched as the holo-projectors played out using the strategy Yumikaya created. As they watched, Her strategy unfolded and the bombers managed to destroy the enemy cruisers before the holo-projectors deactivated and Bane spoke calmly.
" A creative solution. Effective, Simple and quick to employ. Good. Now then, The last part of my training is the Force itself. I will teach you some basic techniques. Starting with your favourite. Lifting rocks. "
" Uuuuuugh... " Yumikaya sighed as Bane chuckled softly before several boulders floated over before landing with a series of thuds.
" Yes, Yes. The task is boring. Now focus. "
Yumikaya sighed irritably before reaching out with the Force. After several moments, One of the boulders trembled before falling still as Yumikaya sighed again. " They are too heavy. "
" Are they? "
" I just said so didn't I? " Yumikaya sighed softly before Bane chuckled and spoke.
" So much sass for such a miniature package. And here I thought you could outdo Zannah. At your age, She could toss a starfighter like a child's toy. Nothing was out of her reach. Her instinctive power made her enemies cower and flee in terror. "
" Seriously? She was that strong? " Yumikaya had a look of awe on her face as Bane nodded before looking at her hands. After a moment, Yumikaya huffed determinedly before reaching out with the Force, This time, Letting her frustration flow through her. After a few moments, The boulders trembled before rising into the air. As they floated, Yumikaya growled softly, Causing the boulders to crack before falling to the ground as Bane chuckled and spoke calmly.
" There is hope for you yet. Sleep for tonight and enjoy it. Tomorrow we begin again and you will know no sleep until your Force prowess matches your lightsaber skill. "
As Bane disappeared, Yumikaya sighed softly before curling up and quickly falling asleep.
The Next Day
" Sis is coming back right? " Yumitaya whimpered softly as she sat on the overlook staring toward the temple.
" Ofcourse she will sweetheart. She is just doing her training with... Bane... " Zanira sighed heavily before Yumitaya sighed softly and spoke.
" I miss her. She has been down there for ages. I wanna go see her. " Yumitaya stood before Zanira placed a hand on her arm and shook her head slowly, Causing tears to build up in Yumitaya's eyes before she spoke sadly. " But... I miss her... Please mum... "
" We can't sweetheart. She has to do this alone. " Zanira sighed sadly and did her best to maintain her composure but quickly broke down and sobbed softly as Yumitaya hugged her. " I miss her so much too... I want with everything I am to go down there and hold her and tell her I love her. But... But we can't... I can't... "
" But what if she is hurt... " Yumitaya looked heartbroken before freezing as a soft voice echoed through the air.
" Fear not little one. She is perfectly safe and unharmed. "
" Who are you? How do you know she is okay? " Yumitaya looked around curiously as the voice giggled softly before speaking.
" Someone who can teach her what Bane cannot. I will ensure she remains safe. But you must not interfere. "
" But I... " Yumitaya spoke softly before biting her lip and running back through the tunnel to the house as Zanira sighed loudly.
Meanwhile
" Good. You are improving. "
" This is so much to take in... Do I really need so many techniques? " Yumikaya breathed raggedly as Bane huffed and spoke.
" More techniques gives you more capability to handle whatever your opponents may throw at you. "
" It's just... My brain is overloading okay? I've had one night sleep since we started and threatening Atali really isn't helping my mood. " Yumikaya had an exhausted look on her face as Bane spoke.
" If it were Zannah... " Bane spoke but froze as Yumikaya stood rapidly and shouted, Her voice echoing through the temple.
" I AM NOT ZANNAH! " Yumikaya growled angrily before speaking as Bane waited. " I am not her! Expecting me to be her is unfair and not possible. I am not magically going to turn into someone that I am not. If all you want is your precious Zannah than piss off and go find her! "
Yumikaya stormed out of the temple as Bane sighed impatiently before disappearing. As Yumikaya walked outside, She yelled angrily before sighing irritably and sitting down. After several minutes of silent fuming, Yumikaya was startled as a soft voice filled the area.
" Don't misunderstand. He doesn't expect you to become Zannah. He simply has no other point of reference. "
" That doesn't make it okay and doesn't make it any less degrading. " Yumikaya sighed before slowly calming down as the voice continued.
" I wouldn't expect it to. But that isn't his goal. While his teaching method is painful, It worked in the past. It is all he knows. He did only train one apprentice after all. "
" What? Zannah was his only apprentice? " Yumikaya had a shocked look on her face before Bane appeared and sat in front of her before speaking.
" Indeed. I trained only Zannah in my entire life. When her power outgrew mine, She killed me and took my place. As is the Sith way. As the Rule Of Two demands. "
" That sounds pretty archaic. " Yumikaya groaned softly as Bane chuckled softly and spoke.
" Perhaps. Yet it was effective. Look at Sith as a whole now. They are numerous and run rampant within their own ranks, Vying endlessly for power and dominance. In my time, While Zannah and I were not the only Sith, We also did not concern ourselves with power struggles and overconfident upstarts. There was only Zannah and I against whatever crossed our path. "
