PAW Patrol: TAF (The Anthro Files)
Pups Rock!
A Sonic the Hedgehog/PAW Patrol Crossover

Chapter 1

Ever since the magical effects of the two meteors that gave the PAW Patrol pups their superpowers and the ability to alternate between being regular pups that walked on all fours and pups that stood on two legs just like the human race (which they called "anthro mode"), Adventure Bay was becoming more beloved than ever before. Conversely, Foggy Bottom had become a ghost town; its former mayor, Mayor Humdinger, was spending the rest of his life in prison (with the sentence being a total of 540 years), and his mother, Helga Humdinger, had written him out of the will she was leaving. In the eyes of nephew Harold Humdinger, she had controversially written him out of the will as well, and was sending everything that would have gone to him to Mayor Goodway instead.

"Are you sure that is a good idea?" Goodway asked Helga. "I don't want it!"

"I got nobody else to give it to; it's too much trouble to give it to a city that no longer exists," Helga replied as she and her attorneys filed out the paperwork, ensuring that Goodway would receive the belongs and property instead. (Goodway would subsequently sell it once she could find a buyer, and there were already buyers looking to turn what was once Foggy Bottom into a different town.) "Besides, I am the one person in my family that didn't go rogue. Nothing my son or great-nephew did ever fell in line with what my parents taught me when they raised me."

"I'm so sorry to hear that."

"In any event, I am also sorry that your town's heroes, Ryder and the PAW Patrol, had to go through that whole 'F-Zero' tournament. It was a waste of time."

"It probably was, but they said they had the time of the lives racing in that manner. All of us really got into it as well; even my little, itty-bitty, snookie wookums."

"BA-BUCK, BA-GERK!" Chickaletta clucked.

However, there was more to the pups' talents than met the eye. The second meteor that made the pups anthro (which the pups, as the Mighty Pups, destroyed by thrusting it into the sun) had also enhanced their abilities to learn a new skill. The biggest proof of this was when they began playing musical instruments more often. Why? When pop sensation Luke Stars came to visit Adventure Bay one time, but got delayed by a storm that destroyed a bridge he had to cross to get there (as well as the stage he was to perform on), Rubble got the idea to have the pups play music to entertain the crowds until Luke got there. (Skye flew him in the harness attached to the helicopter she was flying, and slowly helped him descend to the stage for a grand entrance that left a life-changing impression on the citizens of Adventure Bay.) Since then, the pups had periodically performed with him, but walking all forms created limitations to the way they could play the instruments. (Chase, for example, had to hold the drumsticks in his mouth, while Rocky had to use his pup-pack to help him play guitar.)

Upon learning they had the ability to go anthro, Luke used his massive wealth to buy them full-sized instruments that would be easier to play as anthros. He did not meet the reserve members until later, but Ryder had told him about them, and he didn't want them to feel left out. He made sure that he had them in mind when he wrote them this letter:

Dear PAW Patrol:

I really enjoy it when I get to perform with you guys in Adventure Bay, but I heard the news that you pups can now walk on two feet just like us human beings can. I can't believe that a meteor could do something like that. So as a sign of gratitude, also referring to the times you saved me, I figured, "Why not?" The next time I rock with you, I'd like you to do it with real instruments. You can only do so much with the toys you have, but you've got the skills! You rock! Thanks again!

I didn't want your reserve members to be left out, but I wasn't sure if you needed a horn section or not, so I took a chance and added those to the list.

Signed,

Luke Stars

Although Ryder and the other humans didn't play any instruments (not counting when Mayor Goodway played the washtub bass), the 10-year-old tech savvy boy joked about being the band's manager, and Katie added to the joke by saying she would be his assistant manager. Soon afterwards, the PAW Patrol Band was officially established, and all the pups sang vocals when necessary. As far as instruments were concerned, this was the lineup:

Rubble: saxophones (when necessry; he alternated between alto, tenor, and baritone)
Rocky: lead electric guitar
Skye: bass guitar, acoustic bass
Chase: drums
Marshall: piano/keyboard/synthesizer (he played a full-sized 88-key digital keyboard, and used whatever sound was necessary)
Zuma: auxiliary percussion (mainly tambourine and shakers), acoustic guitar (when necessary)
Everest: saxophones (alternating with rubble), and rhythm (electric) guitar (when necessary)
Tracker: auxiliary percussion (mainly conga and bongo drums)
Rex: trombone
Tuck: trumpet, flugelhorn
Ella: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, some auxiliary percussion (when necessary)

Rubble, in his role as a disc jokey, also used his turntable. Liberty had also been added to the band's lineup, but she did not play an instrument; she just sang.

The band worked to write their own original songs, but also paid tribute to their experiences from their 'F-Zero' journey by playing the music from that game, and also playing the music associated with Sonic the Hedgehog, whom they had the pleasure of meeting in real life. Sonic and his friends also had their own rock band, which they called "Sonic JAM."

It was a bright and sunny day in Adventure Bay today, and the pups had another opportunity to perform, but this time, they were the opening act for Sonic JAM. It was again done on the soccer field, since Adventure Bay didn't really have a community center or performing arts center. Instead, its wealth was being put to good use for improving the city's water and electricity, and other things of that nature. Adventure Bay did not need that stuff, though, given the geography of it and the people who lived there.

However, as always seemed to be the case, tragedy struck, evident by the fact Ryder's pup-pad rang in the middle of him and the pups playing catch with a frisbee. "Ryder here," he greeted.

"Hey there, Ryder; how's it going?" came a familiar voice.

"Sonic!" all the pups exclaimed in unison.

"And his friends!" Tails added, coming into the picture. Then the others came into view, and Knuckles added, "Way to go in crushing it during that 'F-Zero' tournament!" (It was actually Amy who made the phone call, but she let Sonic be the first to greet them.)

"Thanks!" Ryder smiled. "How can we help you?"

"We're glad the weather stayed sunny," Amy replied, "but we got here to the place you have your stage set up only to discover that..well...this happened." She turned her phone to reveal that the stage had been vandalized. "Who could have done this?"

The pups all gasped in unison, and Rubble added, "Oh, no!"

"Dude! What happened to the stage?" Zuma echoed.

"We have no idea, but clearly somebody doesn't want you to perform," Shadow put in. "If it wasn't that Gizmody girl or Humdinger boy, then I don't know who it was. And frankly, I hope I never see that girl again; she's worse than the Doctor! Anyways, can you help us fix it for tonight? Or was it tomorrow night?"

"I think it was actually tomorrow night, but we'll be there," Ryder promised. "No job is too big; no pup is too small!"

"Thanks a lot," Knuckles put in. "See you here."

The call ended, and Sonic and his team looked for ways to give the pups a head start on their jobs. Ryder, meanwhile, changed the logo on his pup-pad to summon the pups, all the while, calling, "PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!"

"Ryder needs us!" all the pups exclaimed in unison as they ran to the Lookout.
