After dessert, Elliot didn't want Olivia to be pulled away again. Anticipating the Chief approaching, he extended his hand, palm up. Confused, she looked up at him.
"Dance with me?" he asked softly, and she melted.
Taking his hands, she followed him onto the dance floor, where a few other couples swayed to the music. Getting into position, they relished the proximity it created. A lot of thoughts went through their heads in that moment, but they simply swayed in silence.
Olivia let go, allowing Elliot to guide her steps, their feet effortlessly falling into sync. His hand held hers with just enough pressure, while his other provided a welcomed warmth on her waist. Olivia's chin rested lightly on his shoulder. Occasionally, Elliot let his nose brushed into her hair, careful not to overstep. This was what he had craved all night. Olivia, too, if she were honest.
"I'm sorry I haven't been available more than 5 minutes at a time tonight…" Olivia began after a long moment, guilt from earlier returning.
Elliot chuckled softly, confusing her.
"We've been doing 5-minute talks for months. We're experts at it now." He half-joked, and she had to agree.
"Still…I feel bad."
"Don't feel bad, Liv. We still have all night." Elliot assured, gathering the courage to continue. "I've got nowhere to be but here, with you."
Olivia pulled back just enough to look at him, absorbing his words, studying his face and his eyes. He was really here. And she couldn't be happier (and relieved) about it. She nodded, and they resumed their dancing position. Olivia allowed him to pull her even closer, seizing the opportunity to breathe in his scent and close her eyes.
After another moment, Olivia spoke softly.
"Is your assignment really over?" Her voice sounded painful, reminiscent of the sacrifice she had done, patiently waiting while letting him do his work.
Elliot responded in a soft, intimate tone.
"It really is."
They both sighed into the information, relieved and glad that he was home now.
About half an hour into their dance, Olivia uttered the words Elliot had been waiting for all evening.
"El?"
"Hm?"
"Let's get outta here."
"Please." He sighed, signaling that he'd retrieve their coats.
