Ok so I know it's been a while.. (Random person: Try 7 MONTHS) I kind of forgot about this story. But I randomly remembered it last night and had the urge to continue. So here's chapter 6, for the 1 or 2 people reading this. It's a long one! Hopefully you enjoy it and I actually stick to updating this! Sorry again!

Chapter 6

We enter into a large kitchen with seats in front of the island. Keefe jumps into a chair and makes himself comfortable.

"I'm guessing you sit there often?" I ask him.

"You are one bright girl." Keefe winks at me.

Fitz rolls his eyes as he distributes cups of a deep red liquid.

"Here's some cranberry juice."

I take a deep sip and the sweet and sour flavors collide onto my tongue. It's not something I would normally drink, which is why I was surprised to find myself finishing the cup in under a minute.

"Here, take some more!" Biana pours more of the juice into my cup before I can answer. I give her a grateful smile. Fitz then hands me a plate with an apple turnover on it.

"My moms homemade recipe. We've been eating these since we were 5."

I eye it skeptically. I then look up to find Biana, Fitz and Keefe staring at me.

"What?" I ask, subconsciously reaching for my eyelashes (a nervous habit I've developed ever since the fire).

"We wanna see your reaction!" Keefe explains.

I take a tentative bite.

"Oh wow! This is amazing!"

Fitz grins. "I knew you would like it!"

For some reason that makes me blush. What is wrong with me?

Thankfully, Marella and Dexs reaction interrupts my inner scolding.

"THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER PUT IN MY MOUTH!"

"YOU NEED TO GIVE ME THIS RECIPE!"

We all laugh. After we quickly finish the food and drinks, Biana leads us to a large deck with stairs leading down to the backyard. There's a huge pool off to one side, and a bunch of trees spread out. I need to squint to see the end of the field.

"Ok, is everyone ready to play basequest?"

Everyone nods except me. I awkwardly raise my hand. "Umm what IS basequest?"

Keefe's jaw drops. "You've NEVER played Basequest before?"

I shake my head.

"It's essentially capture the flag, except there's a base that you tag instead of trying to capture an object. There's also more running involved."

"Ok.." I'm a little worried, because the most physical activity I do is walking the dogs that Edaline and Grady sometimes bring home from the shelter.

Fitz must see the worry on my face, because he quickly reassures me. "Don't worry Soph, none of us were good the first time we played."

I blush at the nickname.

"Umm, speak for yourself! If I remember clearly, which I do because of my photographic memory, the first time I played with you guys, I got you and Alvar out in under five minutes!" Keefe brags.

Fitz rolls his eyes. "Beginner's luck."

"Who's Alvar?" Dex asks.

"He's our older brother. He's in college right now, but he comes back every now and then when they have break. He used to play basequest with us when we were little," Biana explains, looking a little sad.

"Alvar is my hero," Keefe says dreamily. "He is a BEAST at basequest."

"And equally good at troublemaking," Fitz mentions.

"I see where you got that influence from then," Marella says. We all laugh.

"OK! Teams! How should we split up?" Biana takes charge.

"I call Foster on my team!" Keefe yells immediately. "I have a feeling she's gonna be a natural at this."

I try to hide my blushing face behind my hair. "I wouldn't be too sure about that."

"Relax Foster. With my speed and your brains, we'll be unstoppable!"

Fitz coughs, interrupting Keefe's pep talk.

"I hate to break it to you guys, but you need another person on your team."

"Oh yeah! Uhh, who else should we pick?"

"ME! I'll be on your team!" Marella says immediately.

"Anything to get away from Ms Perfect over there" she whispers to me. I let out a small laugh, but I'm not so sure I agree anymore. Dex glares at Marella while she sticks her tongue out at him.

Fitz puts his hands together. "Ok! So now that we have teams, we can choose bases!"

A few rounds later, all six of us collapse.

"Good game everyone," Keefe says.

"Wow, I wasn't expecting that. Especially since you crushed us in all three rounds," Biana notes.

"I'm trying to be humble."

We're all sweaty as we walk back into the house. Biana hands everyone water and we settle into the living room.

"We should play a game!" she says excitedly.

"What game?" Dex asks.

"Umm, we can play Truth or Dare!" Biana exclaims.

"Noo not truth or dare! It always gets weird in the end!" Fitz grumbles.

"Yeah, remember what happened last time?" Keefe asks Biana.

She blushes slightly, but answers, "I don't know what you're talking about!"

I'm about to ask what that's all about, but a man with teal eyes walks into the room.

"Hey kids! Having fun?" he asks.

"Yes Dad!" Biana and Fitz answer.

Their dad nods at Marella and Dex. "Nice to see you two around. It's been a while since you all got together!"

Dex looks down sheepishly and Marella blushes a little, but they wave at him.

Finally, the man's gaze shifts to me. "I don't believe we've met?"

"Hi, I'm Sophie Foster. I just moved here. Edaline and Grady adopted me."

His face lights up with recognition. "Ah yes, they've told me a lot about you!" His smile flattens out. "I'm so sorry about what happened to your parents. It must've been awful."

"Yeah, it was," is all I reply back with.

He states sympathetically at me for a few more seconds before turning back to the group.

"Well, I have some work to get back to, but you kids have fun! Fitz, Biana, if you need me I'll be in my office." With that, he turns and leaves the room.

Biana breaks the awkward silence that follows. "Ok, where were we? Oh yes! Dex, truth or dare?"

Dex looks surprised to be asked first, but he regains his composure. "Uhh, truth I guess."

Biana thinks for a moment. "Hmm, ok I have one! Have you ever cheated on a test?"

Dex looks offended. "I would never!"

Biana gives him a look.

"Ok, fine. Maybe ONCE during math. I just so happened to get a glimpse of Shaydas paper during a unit test that I barely studied for."

"Wow Dex, I never knew you were such a rebel!" Fitz comments. Dex rolls his eyes but laughs.

"I think I got that question wrong anyway."

"Shayda IS pretty stupid! You should've copied off someone like me!" Keefe says confidently.

"I'll try to keep that in mind the next time I cheat on a test, thanks Keefe."

"You're welcome!"

"Ok Dex, ask someone else!" Biana urges.

"Oh yeah, umm ok. Marella, Truth or Dare?"

"Dare!"

"Ok, uhh. I dare you to read your last text message out loud to the group!"

Marella immediately pulls out her phone. "I have nothing to hide, I only know other people's secrets," she tells us.

"Ok… then let's see your last message!"

She pulls up the app and clicks on recents. The text message is from her to a girl named Maruca, talking about the latest chemistry test.

"See! Nothing to hide!" she says.

"Ugh fine," Dex replies. "Choose someone else."

"Keefe, Truth of Dare?"

"Dare, obviously!"

She gets a sly look on her face. "I dare you to jump into the pool, FULLY CLOTHED!"

My jaw drops. I'm so glad she didn't choose me. Then again, I probably would've gone with Truth.

"Bet!" Keefe says, and runs to the deck.

We run to keep up with him.

"Ready everyone?" Keefe asks.

"Yeah, just do it already!" Fitz yells.

"Whatever you say Fitzy-poo!"

Keefe takes a running start and cannonballs into the pool. He emerges about three seconds later, with his hair stuck to his forehead. I don't know how but it looks even better like this.

"Would anyone care to join me? It is surprisingly warm in here!"

We all immediately decline.

"Suit yourself!"

He climbs out of the pool and shakes his head like a dog, spraying us all with water.

"UGH KEEFE!" Biana shrieks. "Go dry yourself off with a towel or something!"

"Finee! Don't start without me guys," he says, before sprinting back into the house.

"So what should we do?" Dex asks.

"I can show you my Fortnite set-up! I just got some new LED lights under my desk," Fitz offers.

"YES! Where are they from?" Dex asks.

"My grand-mother gave it to me as a Christmas present. She owns the lights company called Luzia. It's how our family got so rich."

"Woah that's so cool! My dad owns a pharmacy. It's called Slurps and Burps."

"Oh I know that place! My dad gets his medicine from there! He says we can trust them because they use safe products!"

Dex beams.

"Umm hate to interrupt your little nerd talk but I don't want to see your Fortnite thingy and I doubt Sophie or Marella wants to either," Biana says.

Marella and I nod along.

"Fine, but I'm taking Dex to my room!" Fitz says, and drags Dex upstairs.

"Ok anyway, we should go to my room! I can give you guys a tour! Maybe I can give you two makeovers!" Biana says excitedly, clapping her hands.

"As much as I love that idea, my dad is actually here. Sorry! Maybe next time!" Marella says. She smirks at me as I mouth help.

"Ok bye Marella!"

She leaves through the front door, leaving me and Biana alone.

"Ok, let's goooo!"

Biana takes me upstairs and pulls me into a bright purple room. I immediately notice the ginormous vanity in the middle of the room. There is makeup and hair products piled on top of the table.

Once I peel my eyes away from the mess, I examine the rest of the room. There is a huge bed in the corner with pink curtains flowing from the top. There is also a small desk and a bookshelf filled with text books next to it.

"Wow Biana, your room is amazing!"

She smiles. "I designed it myself!"

Suddenly, the door that I assume leads to the bathroom opens.

Keefe walks out, drying his hair with a fluffy towel.

"KEEFE! What are you doing in my BATHROOM?!"

He finally notices us and takes a step back, putting his hands in the air as if surrendering, letting the towel fall onto his shoulder.

"Woah there! You told me to find a towel to dry myself off!"

"WHY DIDN'T YOU USE FITZ'S BATHROOM?"

"Um, have you SEEN Fitz's bathroom? It's like a pack of dinosaurs ran through there. TWICE. I'm surprised he still uses it at this point."

"Ugh fine. But NEVER do that again. Now go! I need to give Sophie a makeover!"

Keefe whistles. "I'd like to see THAT!"

I blush. Deeply.

"Ugh Keefe, GET OUT!" Biana points towards the door.

"Ok sheesh, I'm leaving!"

Biana sighs. "Now you know what I had to go through for most of my life."

I laugh. "How long have you known Keefe?"

"Umm, about 7 years. They moved here when I was in third grade. Keefe and Fitz were in the same class and immediately became friends. I guess they had a shared love for causing trouble or something."

I nod. "But wait, I thought Keefe was our age?"

"Yeah he is, but he skipped first grade. Cause, you know? Photographic memory?"

"Oh yeah." I decided not to tell her that I also have that skill.

"Anyway, back to our makeover! Ok, should we start with hair or makeup?"

"Ummm none of the above?" I ask cautiously. She giggles. "Funny.."
