Reincarnation and realizing you are in the world of a manga you read. It was cool at the start, then the novelty wore off soon enough. Especially after she realized where she was. "I'm in Love with the Villainess"... It sounded interesting at the start, but she only read until the point the manga was at the time and didn't read the novel.

There was magic and monsters, but beyond that, the world seemed fairly chill, she does remember reading something about a "Demon King" and the protagonist being a clone, but after much thinking, she decided those problems were "Main character stuff", and promptly decided to just observe how the story progresses from afar. Not like she remembers much apart from the cute romance between the protagonist and whoever the "Villainess" was.

She was planning on observing cannon from a distance, it was interesting and she could watch some good girls love, it was a glorious idea… or at least it was until the incident.

'I mean, how can one enjoy some good romance from a distance when you are practically blind?'

Mind you, she is not actually blind, just… burdened with an interesting ability.

One day, on the outskirts of the kingdom, the carriage of the Brennan family, her family, was attacked by a monster. They tried to escape, but in their attempt, the youngest daughter, Maeve Brennan, was swatted by the paw of the massive wolf monster. At an inch of her life, she awakened her latent ability, her mystic eyes.

The Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.

Thousands of red lines appeared in her vision, and before she knew it, she was madly bolting at the monster.

Before the monster could register anything, the girl swiped her hand, and the monster became a pile of perfectly cut bits.

A grotesque sight, that she thankfully didn't have the time to see before a splitting headache overcame her, and she passed out because of blood loss and exhaustion.

And like that, a sad origin story was averted…

Thankfully it wasn't that bad, because of her horrible headaches every time she saw the lines, she had to cover her eyes most of the time, leaving her mostly blind, but about 3 years later, she discovered her elemental affinities… Yes, affinitieS.

Turns out she has affinities for both earth and wind, making her a bundle of rarities.

Now, why is this good you may ask? Well, because she can become Toph and regain her independence, of course!

It took a lot of practice, but after some time, she could expertly use both elemental affinities to "regain" her sight.

Her parents were elated by the news, but still kept one specially trained maid with her for help in reading and other tasks.

The news of her eyes gained the attention of some nobles with less than good intentions, and they rapidly sought to marry their sons to her, some even using less than nice methods… But after some convincing (reminding them of their fickle mortality when in her presence), and help from the king, she was free of those bothers. Sometimes she still had to deal with some boys flirting with her, but after telling them she was into women (And some spooks), they left her alone.

And that's how Maeve became a protected person in the Bauer Kingdom.

One may wonder, what is Maeve doing at this exact moment?

Being dangled upside down by a massive slime, of course.

She was glad to be wearing thigh-highs and shorts, otherwise, this would've been quite embarrassing. 'Why am I the only one grabbed by the legs?'

The blood was rapidly getting to her head, and she didn't have the patience to let the main characters deal with the slime. 'I'll just kill it' She reached behind her head and untied her blindfold, it falling to the ground. The moment she opened her eyes, thousand of red lines appeared in her vision 'Fuck… I already got a migraine,' Using her hand in a hand chop, she cut the closest line to her and fell to the ground, rapidly using air to cushion her fall. "Beloved ground, how I missed you"

Pointing her wand at the ground, she willed it to form a long katana. 'I wonder if there's a correlation between having these eyes and using knives or katanas… Both Shikis use knives…'

Spotting a line that went along the body of the slime without having any students in the way, she ran at the slime. Evading some tentacles aimed at her, she aimed for the line and cut, the blade effortlessly entering the slime's body. Once on the other side of the field, the slime stopped moving for a few seconds, before it crumpled to the ground in a puddle of water. Maeve rapidly scanned the puddle, spotting the magical stone, and rapidly running to destroy it before the slime reformed.

"Hahh… Hahh… ughh" She covered her eyes, the migraine already getting to her. 'What's the point of having these eyes if I can barely use them without my head hurting?... Where's my blindfold…'

"You searching for this?"Someone said from behind her, she tapped her foot on the ground to see the outline of what the person was holding, and lo and behold, it was her blindfold.

"Ah! Yes… Thank you" She said, grabbing the blindfold and putting it on before walking off to talk with the teacher.

The man was stunned 'She didn't even ask who I was?'

She knew. She just didn't want to deal with him.

He is Rod Bauer after all, one of the princes of the kingdom of Bauer.

She didn't want to deal with him and possibly attract more attention than she wanted, which unknowingly did attract attention to her.

Yu did not let him live it down.

And that's it.

Do not expect more of this, though I do have an idea for a shorter fight between MC and Rod. But after that, this is probably done.

I don't think this idea has enough merit to warrant a full-on fic, but if you are motivated enough, you can take it.
