Chapter 5: Our New Caboose
"You know, if we're going to raise our flags as high as they can go, we should put them upstairs." Angela said.
"Good idea, Ang! I'll help you." Peppermint Patty smirked, heading upstairs with her.
"Be careful, sir! There are a lot of steps." Marcie warned.
"I hear ya, Marcie." Peppermint Patty groaned.
"You know, the upstairs part of the caboose is called a cupula." Barney explained.
"A cupula?" Sally asked.
"That's right, Sally. And when the conductor sits in the cupula, he can see the whole train." Barney smiled.
"So from up here..." Angela began.
"We can see the whole park!" Peppermint Patty beamed.
"What're we waiting for? Let's go see if they can see us!" Mario motioned as most of the kids, Snoopy and Barney rushed outside.
"Can you see us from down here?" the kids asked.
"We can see all of you from up here." Peppermint Patty said, holding onto her hat for dear life.
"And I also see some dirt..." Angela grimaced. "I think these windows need some washing."
"And what does the conductor think?" Barney asked.
"I think it's time to clean all the windows, just about now." Kami declared.
"Let's do this!" Linus said.
A few minutes later, we see everyone cleaning up...or trying to...
"You don't have to scrub so aggressively." Scott noticed.
"I know, Scott, I just need to handle this stain!" Marcie fussed a little, trying to clean a window from the caboose's porch.
"I got it!" Lucy said, using Linus' blanket to clean the same spot on the window from the inside.
Barney hummed a little as he was helping clean when the caboose doors rolled open "BOO!" Snoopy declared.
"Oh Snoopy, never change who you are..." Barney laughed.
Sally and Kami then walked backwards, still trying to clean before bumping into each other, laughing.
"I need the bottle!" Mario yelled from inside the window to Peppermint Patty.
"Which one?" Peppermint Patty asked.
"The bottle you're holding." Mario explained. Peppermint Patty then handed Mario the bottle through the mail slot.
"Oh, that's why you need it!" Peppermint Patty giggled.

Everyone then got the laughs out and panted. "I'm not sure if I'm more tired from working or laughing." Pigpen panted.
"But all of your work paid off. Just look at that nice, new, clean caboose." Barney smiled, showing the results of their work.
"Wow!" the kids said in awe.
"Oooooh!" Snoopy smiled.
"We did it! We were able to make our brand new park look more beautiful." Lucy smiled.
"And just think, this was all your idea, Conductor Kami." Linus smiled.
"But I couldn't have done it without everyone's help." Kami smiled.
"Yes, it took all of you working together to get the job done. Just like it takes a lot of train cars to make a train. Each one is different, and each one is special. From the very first in line..." Barney smiled, hugging Charlie Brown. "...to the last in line." He then hugged Kami.

Kami sighed "According to my conductor's watch, it's time to say thank you everyone."
"You're welcome, Kami." The kids replied.
"I was sad about being last in line, but you helped me feel happy again!" she explained.
"Now that I've seen how much fun it is, I wanna be last in line, tomorrow!" Peppermint Patty declared.
"No, I do!" Mario said.
"So do I!" Lucy declared.
"Tomorrow?" Sally asked. "I thought we were just staying for the day..." she sighed.
Barney gave a small smile "Sally, change can be a good thing."
"I miss the treehouse already..."
"We can still visit the treehouse and play with our school friends..." Lila said.
"And we can also make new friends here at the park." Eudora added. "Besides, we already made four new friends."
Sally looked over at Kami, Angela, Mario and Scott and smiled back "You're both right. I'll give being in the park a try..." she said.
"That's the spirit." Eudora reassured.
Barney smiled proudly. "You can do it, Sally Brown."
"Barney. Question." Heather said.
"Yes?" Barney asked.
"Who should be last in line next?" Heather wondered.
"You can probably all take turns, if it's okay with conductor Kami." Barney said.
"It's alright with me. Thank you for making this such a good day, Barney." Kami smiled.
"You're very welcome, Kami. We had a great day. But of course, everyday is good when you spend it with the people we love." Barney smiled.

"But tomorrow we'll come back and have more fun with you!" Heather squealed.
"OK! Bye Barney, bye guys!" Mario, Scott, Angela, and Kami waved.
"I can't believe I'm even saying this you blockhead, but you were right. I think it's time for a change." Lucy smiled.
"Then we're in agreement! This is our new place!" Charlie Brown smiled. "What do you think, Barney?" No answer. "Barney?"
"He was here a minute ago!" Marcie exclaimed before they saw the Barney doll on the grass.
"Barney..." the kids smiled. Just then, they heard the Caboose bell ring and went over to Snoopy and Woodstock who hanged a picture of all of them, even Barney on the door that was crayon drawn and read 'Our New Place'.
"What's it say?" Sally asked, picking up the Barney doll and hugging him.
"Our...new...place..." Charlie Brown read aloud.
"I think...I'm gonna like it here, after all..." Sally said as she placed Barney on the railing so she could look at the picture "Its missing Baby Bop and BJ! I better fix this!" and she took the picture inside to "fix" it.
Snoopy looked over at the Barney doll and laughed before blowing a wooden train whistle and winking at the Barney Doll, who responded by winking back. "ALL ABOARD!" Snoopy thought.
