Chapter 1: Welcome to UA
UA High School
"Alright Clark, you've been practicing so long for this. You can do this," Thought a broad shouldered teenager, dressed in a red and yellow letterman jacket, with a large letter S on the front of it. He wore jeans and a blue shirt underneath the jacket. The man was a strange sight among the throng of people wearing the school uniforms, even among some with quirks that changed their shape.
"I need to find where the written exam will be. Why is UA so big?" He wondered. He didn't get too much time to process this, as he something, or rather someone, walked into him from behind. Clark turned around and saw a smaller teen boy looking up at him. The boy had green hair, and seemed nervous.
"Um, s-sorry."
"It's all right. I shouldn't have stopped in the middle of a crowd. Do you know where the written exam will be?"
"Uh, yeah. I believe so."
Clark started following the teen, who had started mumbling as he was walking. Clark however, didn't notice this, as Clark looked around a little, and saw a bunch of people. There was a girl that was pink, a dark haired punk rock type girl, and a women that seemed to be of a greek decent.
Clark shook his head and turned back to the green-haired boy, and saw that he was levitating above the ground. A girl with brown hair was standing right next to him. She placed the boy back on his feet and then walked away. Clark walked over to him.
"You okay?"
"... I just talked to a girl."
"Um, sure," Clark spoke, not wanting to correct him. The two of them walked into the school building, and saw the sign for the written exam.
3 Hours Later
Clark walked out of the exam room, and into the hall. He had finished the exam an hour earlier, but wasn't allowed to leave until the time ran out. Which was fine by him, as it gave him time to sit and meditate. Now he had to head over to the were they would give instructions for the physical exam.
He made his way over there, and thankfully, he was able to find the room quickly. He found his seat and tuned in. He saw a man in a black leather jacket walk onto the stage and begin speaking.
"What's up, UA candidates? Thanks for tuning in to me, your school DJ. C'mon. And lemme hear ya!
Nobody spoke.
"Keeping it mellow, huh? That's fine, I'll skip straight to the main show. Let's talk about how this practical exam is gonna go down, okay? Are you ready? Yeah!' Like your application said, today you rockin' boys and girls will be out there conducting ten‐minute mock battles in super‐hip urban settings. Gird your loins, my friends. After I drop the mic here, you'll head to your specified battle center, sound good? Okay?"
Once again, there was silence, but Clark did not care about that. He looked down at his exam ticket, and saw that it had exam site C listed on it.
"Okay, okay, let's check out your targets. There are three types of faux villains in every battle center. You'll earn points based on their level of difficulty,so better choose wisely. Your loop goal in this trial is to use your Quirk to raise your score by shredding these faux villains like a mid‐song guitar solo. But, check it! Make sure you're keep'n things heroic. Attacking other examinees is a UA no‐no, ya dig?"
Suddenly, Present Mic was interrupted by a boy in the back. Clark could see that the boy had blue hair and glasses, similar to the ones that Clark was currently wearing. Clark didn't need them, but figured it would help him blend in one day, since he wouldn't be hiding his face.
The blue haired boy spoke, "Excuse me, sir, but I have a question."
"Hit me!"
"On the printout, you've listed four types of villains. Not three. With all respect, if this is an error on official UA materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students. We expect the best from Japan's most notable school. A mistake such as this won't do. Additionally, you with the unkempt hair," The Blue haired boy said, pointing to the green haired one.
"You've been muttering this entire time. Stop that. If you can't bother to take this seriously, leave. You're distracting the rest of us."
Clark was starting to get mad at the boy now. So what if the boy muttered a little. However, what happened next angered him further.
"And you," the blue haired boy spoke, pointing to Clark. "You are not even being respectful to this school, and you expect to get in. On the form it says that you must wear a school uniform–"
"Or uniform adjacent. That is what the boy is wearing," Present Mic spoke, "Anyway, Examinee number 7‐1‐1‐1. Thanks for calling in with your request. The fourth villain type is worth zero points. That guy's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There's one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid. It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's kinda no point. I recommend my listeners try to ignore it and focus on the ones toppin' the charts."
"Thank you very much. Please continue."
"That's all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto! As General Napoleon Bonaparte once laid down. "A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes." Mm‐hm. Now that's a tasty soundbite. You ready to go beyond? Let's hear a Plus Ultra!"
"Plus Ultra!"
Good luck! Hope you practiced hitting more than just books."
30 minutes later
Clark was currently standing in front of exam site C. He had by this point changed into workout clothes. He was wearing a Smallville High t-shirt, and sweatpants. He was about to begin the physical portion of the UA Entrance Exam, and he was ready.
He knew that with his powers, he could probably wipe the entire battlefield in less than a minute, but he didn't want to do that. It would be unfair to the rest of the competitors. So, he would be limiting himself, like always. He would only be using some of his speed, jumps, strength, and his heat-vision. That would definitely be enough to land him first place anyway. However, if he truly needed it, he would use some of his other abilities.
Clark thought that this was definitely fair, so he started to prepare himself. Thankfully, the blue haired kid was not here, so he didn't have to deal with that. He looked around and saw a pink skinned girl, a boy with a tail, and a girl who seemed to have earphone jacks coming out of her ears.
"Right, let's start!" a voice shouted over an intercom.
Clark took this as a go-ahead, and started jogging towards the entrance. He could see the others running as well.
Once he got in, He saw that his surroundings looked oddly familiar. It was like he was in Metropolis, the capital city of his home state Kansas. The city was always highly regarded as looking as though it was taken right out of the future, and placed in the past.
But Clark couldn't focus on the beauty of it. He had to focus on getting points.
So, he started running.
It didn't take him long at all to find a few 1-pointers, which he took out with ease.
He continued to take down robots, using his speed, agility, strength, and heat vision. It wasn't until he was at a solid 37 points that he saw something. Someone was trapped in some rubble underneath a 3-pointer. Clark rushed over to the person, and broke away the rubble. It was the earphone jack girl from earlier.
"You alright, Maam?"
"Yes, I am okay. My leg is a bit numb, but I am at 30 points now, so I should be good if I can get a few more."
"Well alright. I'll cheer you on.
Clark then leaped away, and continued to hunt. By the time he was at 56 points, I felt a rumbling coming from under the ground. He turned and saw a giant mech coming out of the ground a few blocks away. Clark immediately turned and started running towards it.
When he got close, he saw that the robot was chasing after several examinees, but from what Clark could see, the examinees had their path blocked by a ton of rubble.
It was at that moment, Clark knew what he needed to do. He started running. He then took a giant leap, and started flying towards the robots.
Flying was something that he had only figured out how to do recently, with the help of his girlfriend, Lana Lang. He finally did it on purpose over the break, and they had all celebrated.
He used his newest power of flight to direct himself at the head of the Zero-Pointer, and flew right through it. However, the robot started to fall, so Clark had to get under it and catch it so that it wouldn't harm the examinees. He then tossed it away into a clearing.
"Times Up!" Present Mic announced through the intercom.
