Chapter 7: Search & Rescue
Crunch. Crunch. Kate stepped on some crunchy leaves as she walked through the forest. She's been walking for three hours. But the monster was nowhere in sight. "Ugh.." she groaned. "Great. Just great. I can barely see. I can't find the monster. My phone is missing." Kate sighed. "Shit, I don't even know where I'm at. I'm completely lost."
She stretched out her arms for a moment.
Swishhhhhhhhhh. Swisshhhhhhhhhhh.
"That sounds like a waterfall. I'll follow the sound of the waterfall and check out the area. Maybe the monster is there," said Kate. She walked straight towards the waterfall. "I see the waterfall!"
The waterfall was surrounded by bushes, rocks, and trees. Water was falling from the top of a short mountain. The water at the bottom of the waterfall was connected to a river. So, the water continued to travel along the river. Additionally, there were lots of red bioluminescent bugs in the area. It made it easier for Kate to see clearly in the area.
"This is a cool spot. Okay, okay, I have to focus. Where would you be hiding Mr. Monster?" asked Kate. She slowly walked around the area, but didn't get inside the water. She didn't want her clothes to get wet.
It was quiet.
"Dang it..." groaned Kate. "The monster isn't here. Clint would be so disappointed in me right now."
Bupple. Bupple. Bupple. Bupple. Bupple.
Kate raised her eyebrow. "Wait. What's the sound?" She looked up at the top of the waterfall. There was nothing there. She looked around at the bushes, rocks, and trees. There was nothing there either. "Wait a second... The sound is coming from the water!" She stared at the water.
There were lots of tiny bubbles quickly flowing to the surface of the water.
"The monster might be underwater," murmured Kate. She quickly grabbed an arrow from her quiver and loaded it onto her recurve bow. Then, she aimed her recurve bow at the tiny bubbles in the water.
Suddenly, something began to emerge from the water. It was Sam!
"Sam?!" Kate lowered her recurve bow.
"Kate?! What are you doing out here?" asked Sam.
"I'm looking for a monster that stole my phone," explained Kate.
"Oh gosh, that sounds awful."
"Why were you swimming underwater Sam?" asked Kate.
"I was trying to use the water to get rid of a cockroach that was on my body! I think the cockroach got swept away in the river. But I don't know for sure. Could you check behind my body to see if the cockroach is gone?"
"Sure, I'll check," replied Kate.
Sam slowly turned around. Her body and clothes were completely drenched in water.
That's when Kate saw the original cockroach sleeping in Sam's brown hair. To make matters worse, there were about thirty other red cockroaches crawling around Sam's clothing.
"Don't move a muscle.." said Kate.
"Huh? Why?" asked Sam.
Kate didn't respond. She slowly removed the arrow from her recurve bow and placed it back in her quiver. Then, she grabbed a trick arrow from her quiver and reloaded her recurve bow with it. Kate aimed her recurve bow at Sam.
"Oh no..." said Sam. She closed her eyes.
Kate released the trick arrow from her recurve bow. Whish! The trick arrow quickly flew through the air and landed on Sam's right shoulder. The trick arrow attached itself to Sam's shoulder so it wouldn't fall into the water.
Sam's eyes remained closed. Her body trembled in fear. "Omg, I'm going to die. I'm going to die. I'm going to die."
Kate didn't say anything. She pulled out a small gadget from her pocket. There was a red button on the gadget. Kate grinned as she pushed the red button with her finger.
Suddenly, a green gas released from the trick arrow.
"AHHHHHHH!" screamed all the red cockroaches. They all jumped off Sam's body and landed in the water one by one. Unfortunately, the river swept away all the cockroaches into the unknown.
"You can open your eyes now," said Kate.
Sam slowly opened her eyes. "Is the cockroach gone?"
Kate nodded.
"How did you get rid of the cockroach?" asked Sam with a confused look on her face.
Kate smiled. "I used a trick arrow."
"What's a trick arrow?" asked Sam.
"Trick arrows are special arrows that can do cool stuff."
"Like what?" asked Sam. She was curious now.
"Uhhhhh, trick arrows can explode, electrocute people, freeze people, and slow down people with sticky bubblegum. I also got some Pym arrows in my quiver too. Clint gave me all these trick arrows. He's my cool mentor."
"Wow," said Sam. "Am I allowed to touch them?"
"Absolutely not! No touching!" said Kate.
"Okay, okay. I promise I won't touch your trick arrows," said Sam.
"Great! Well... I'm going to go now. I have to keep searching for my phone. Goodnight Sam!" Kate began to walk away from Sam.
"WAIT! I want to come with you! I'll help you look for your phone!" offered Sam.
"You sure? You don't have to.." said Kate.
"I owe you one. Let me help you!" insisted Sam.
"Fine.. you can help me. But be careful. There's probably lots of monsters lurking around in the forest."
Sam's body trembled in fear. "Monsters..?"
Kate nodded. "C'mon. Let's go."
Sam stumbled out of the river and caught up to Kate.
They walked together through the dark forest for about an hour. Neither of them saw the monster though.
"I'm feeling tired," yawned Sam. "My legs are starting to feel like jelly. I honestly want to lay down and sleep right here on the grass."
"We can't. This isn't a safe place to sleep," said Kate. Hmm. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I need my trick arrow back."
"Huh? I don't have anything in my hands," explained Sam.
"It's on your right shoulder," said Kate.
Sam looked down at her right shoulder and saw the trick arrow. "Oh, my bad! I'll give it back to you." Sam tried pulling off the trick arrow, but it was stuck to her clothing. "It's stuck. I can't get it off me!"
Kate sighed. "I'll help you. Hold still…" Pluck! She pulled the trick arrow off from Sam's shoulder. "There we go!"
"What kind of trick arrow is it anyways?" asked Sam.
"It's a bug spray trick arrow. It gets bugs to bug off," said Kate as she placed the trick arrow back in her quiver.
"Nice," said Sam.
Sam's Confessional
"I like Kate! She's cool and I think we're going to be great friends here!"
Confessional Ends
"What kind of music do you like to listen to?" asked Sam.
Kate thought about it. "I like rock music. One of my favorite rock bands is Paramellow. They have pretty cool rock songs like: Ain't it Fun, Crushsmoshcrushsmosh, and Running Out Of Time. And how about you Sam? What music do you like?"
"I like pop songs. They're so fun to listen to! Taylorina Swifty is my favorite pop singer! The Shake It song she made is soo good!"
"Pop music makes me want to barf.. But, good for you," said Kate.
Sam began to sway her body from side to side. "Shake it off! Shake it off! Oh-oh-ohhhhhhh-"
"Oh god, please stop," said Kate with an annoyed look.
"But I like that song!" said Sam.
"And I don't. Please don't sing when I'm nearby ever again. You can sing when I'm not around though," said Kate.
"Fine.." murmured Sam.
"Wait. Stop walking," instructed Kate.
"Why?"
"I see a light coming from that tree."
Sam looked up and saw a yellow light coming from inside the tree. "That's weird."
"Yeah, I know. I'm going to go check it out," said Kate.
"How are you going to get up the tree?" asked Sam.
"I'm going to climb up." Kate began to stretch out her arms and legs.
"That tree looks really tall. I hope you don't fall and die," said Sam.
"Uh, thanks?" said Kate.
Kate's Confessional
"Sam is nice. But she's sort of socially awkward."
Confessional Ends
Kate carefully placed her recurve bow and quiver on the ground. She then began to climb up the tree. Little by little, she made progress.
"You got this Kate!" cheered on Sam.
Mhmph! "Focus Kate. Focus.." Kate was halfway up the tree.
Suddenly, Sam noticed an owl flying straight toward Kate. "Uh, oh. Kate, watch out!"
"Watch out for what?" asked Kate. But it was too late. The owl began to attack Kate's black hair. "OWWW! Stupid owl!" cried out Kate. She used one of her hands to punch the owl.
Sam walked around in circles. "I have to think of a way to help Kate! But how?" She looked at Kate's recurve bow and quiver. "Hey Kate! Maybe I can use your bow and arrows to scare away the owl!" she yelled.
"NO! Bad idea! I don't want you touching my stuff!" yelled Kate. She continued to fight with the owl.
"There has to be another way to help Kate," murmured Sam. "Wait a second.." An imaginary lightbulb appeared above Sam's head for about three seconds. "I know how to help!"
HOOT! HOOT! HOOT! The owl tried using its beak to pull off a little bit of Kate's hair.
"AHHHHH! This is... Painful! GET OFF! GET OFF!" screamed Kate.
Sam was holding a rock in her hand. "Here I go.." She carefully aimed the rock at the owl. Then, she used her energy to throw it. Whish! The rock flew through the air.
Unfortunately, the rock ended up hitting Kate's head instead.
"OWWWWW! Why did you throw that rock at my head?!" shouted Kate.
Even the owl felt bad for Kate, so it stopped attacking Kate's hair.
Sam awkwardly laughed. "Sorry! I was trying to throw the rock at the owl. Bad luck struck again!"
"Of course, it was your bad luck," grumbled Kate.
"That looked really painful," said the owl.
Kate's eyes widened. "Huh? You can talk?!"
"Oh, uhhh…" HOOT! HOOT! HOOT! The owl flew away.
"Damn. Well, at least the owl is gone.." murmured Kate. She continued to climb the tree. A few minutes later, she finally reached the top of the tree.
"Yay! Nice job Kate!" yelled Sam.
There was a tiny hole at the top of the tree. The yellow light was coming from inside the hole. So, Kate looked in the hole.
Kate raised her eyebrow. "King Julien?"
There he was. King Julien was sitting on a royal chair made out of red acorns and red leaves. His secret place was decorated with forks, knives, and a pair of socks. The ceiling even had a chandelier.
"Ah, why hello there human! What brings you to my tree palace?" asked King Julien.
"I'm just looking for my phone. What are you doing up here in this tree?"
"Well, you see, I didn't want to sleep in the cabin with the others. It's filthy and not good enough for an amazing king, like me! So I decided to build a royal tree palace for myself on this island. I plan on conquering this dream world next, under the name of King Julien!"
"Uhh, King Julien, you're not dreaming-"
Shush! "I'm always right, silly human!"
Kate rolled her eyes. Suddenly, she realized her phone was King Julien's tree palace chandelier. Her phone was attached to the ceiling with a small rope. "That's my phone... And the color of your eyes matches the monster's eyes. You're the one that stole my phone from me!"
King Julien shook his head. "First of all, this is.. A chandelier. Not a phone. Secondly, I am simply borrowing your chandelier. I did not steal it from you."
"Just give it back," grumbled Kate.
"Sorry human! I need to borrow this for a few years." King Julien smiled.
Without hesitation, Kate squeezed her hand inside King Julien's tree palace and grabbed her phone.
"NOOOOOOO! How am I supposed to see now? It's too dark here! I need light for my royal palace!" King Julien grabbed a mini scroll from underneath his butt. "Under the law of King Julien, stealing is not allowed! I hereby demand you to give me back my chandelier."
"Just find a new chandelier," suggested Kate. She began to climb down the tree.
"Did you find your phone?!" yelled Sam.
"Yes!" responded Kate. She continued climbing down.
Meanwhile, King Julien was having a panic attack in his tree palace. "This is bad! Very bad! I cannot see in here. I must find a new chandelier on this island. And then I will arrest Kate for her crime!" He jumped out of his tree palace and landed on the ground.
"King Julien? What are you doing here?" asked Sam.
"I am searching for a new chandelier for my amazing tree palace," explained King Julien.
"Cool," said Sam.
Kate finished climbing down the tree. She carefully stepped on the ground. Whew! "That was stressful. At least I have my phone back now."
"Yay! Good job Kate!" celebrated Sam.
King Julien frowned.
"Do you guys know the way back to the cabins?" asked Kate. "Because I don't know the way back."
"Nope," said Sam. "Even if I did know the way back, my bad luck would probably lead us straight off a cliff. And then we would probably fall down and die." She nervously laughed.
"Ooo! I think I know the way back," said King Julien.
"Really?" asked Sam.
King Julien nodded. "My intelligence and memory never fails me!"
Sam looked at Kate. "Should we trust him?" she whispered.
"We have no other choice," said Kate. "Alright King Julien, show us the way."
"Very well then! Follow me silly humans," commanded King Julien.
Kate and Sam followed King Julien through the forest.
Sam's Confessional
"I hope he knows the way, because I really want to get back to bed."
Confessional End
"I'm going to practice my beautiful singing while we walk," announced King Julien.
Kate sighed. "Maybe sing tomorrow instead? I prefer peace and silence-"
"Do it!" encouraged Sam. "I never heard a lemur sing in my entire life. I would love to listen to you sing!"
King Julien grinned. "Ooo-oooooooo-ooooooo! My glorious booty is the best world! I shake ma booty! Swing ma booty! Groovy my booty to the beat of the music!" King Julien paused for a moment to swing around his butt in circles. "Booty booty booty booty booty booty! I wash ma booty with water! Dry ma booty with towels! Shave ma booty with razors! Brush ma booty's teeth!-"
"Your butt has teeth?" asked Sam.
King Julien ignored Sam and continued to sing. "Booty booty booty booty booty booty! My glorious booty always saves the day! I fart away the problems! I use ma booty to squish the bad humans! I LOVE MA BOOTY!" King Julien began to breakdance.
"Awh yeah! Your dance moves are so cool King Julien!" cheered Sam.
"I love to dance too, but this isn't the time for dancing. We're still lost.." murmured Kate. "Wait a second... What's that up ahead?"
There was a big mansion close to Kate, King Julien, and Sam. It was brand new and large. There were no gates, guards, or security cameras.
"We're here!" said King Julien.
"The cabins aren't here.." murmured Sam.
King Julien smiled. "I know silly human!"
"Wait.. So you intentionally brought us here then," said Kate.
King Julien nodded.
"WHY?! I wanted to go to sleep in my bed," complained Sam.
"I wanted to grab some food here," explained King Julien. "The refrigerator has so much food!"
Kate thought about it. "So that means someone lives here then.."
King Julien nodded. "I don't know who! But I know there's delicious food!"
Hmmm. "I wonder who.. Now I want to check out this mansion too," said Kate. "C'mon Sam, let's go inside with King Julien."
Ugh.. "Fine," grumbled Sam.
Kate, King Julien, and Sam walked up to the mansion.
"What if the door is locked?" asked Sam.
King Julien jumped on the doorknob and twisted it. Then, he jumped to the ground and pushed the mansion door open. Hehehehehehehehehehehe. "It's unlocked, silly human!"
Sam's eyes widened. "Oh."
They walked inside. There were expensive carpets, couches, and furniture everywhere. Two mannequins of Chris McLean and Chef Hatchet were by the fireplace. On the wall, there were photos of past Total Drama winners like Owen.
"This place is kind of creepy.." said Sam.
Suddenly, Kate and Sam realized King Julien was missing.
"Where did King Julien go?" asked Kate.
"I think he went to the kitchen," said Sam.
"Okay. Well, I'm going to search for the master bedroom," said Kate. "I want to find out who owns this mansion."
Sam nervously laughed. "I'll wait right here for you."
Kate nodded. She began to walk through the endless hallways of the mansion. The hallways were dark, so it was a little difficult for Kate to see in the dark. But that didn't discourage Kate. She explored many rooms, but most of them were empty. "I'll check out one last room. If there's nothing there, then I'll head back to the entrance." She slowly opened an old door.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk.
The sound of the squeaky door sent chills down Kate's body. She looked inside.
Chris McLean was sleeping in his king-sized bed. He was wearing some light blue pajamas. On his head, there was a light blue nightcap.
"I found the villain. Now I have to steal the Multiversal Staff from him," she quietly whispered to herself. "But where is it? Oh, there it is!"
The Multiversal Staff was firmly gripped in Chris' hand on the bed.
"All I have to do is slowly grab the Multiversal Staff from him." Kate took a deep breath. Then, she quietly tiptoed across the bedroom to Chris. She was about to grab the Multiversal Staff from him.
But Chris yawned as he began to twist and turn his body.
Kate quickly hid under the bed.
"I have to torture the contestants.. I have to torture them all.." mumbled Chris. He drifted back to sleep.
Kate crawled and stood back up. She grabbed the Multiversal Staff and slowly began to pull it away from Chris' grip. After a few more seconds, Kate successfully pulled the Multiversal Staff out of his hand.
"Yes!" whispered Kate. She quietly tiptoed across the bedroom with the Multiversal Staff in her hand and left the bedroom. Kate traveled through the hallways of the mansion and reached the entrance.
Sam and King Julien weren't there.
Kate looked around. "Sam? King Julien? Where are you guys?"
Oooooooo! Hahahahahaha!
"It sounds like it's coming from the kitchen," said Kate. She slowly walked over to the kitchen.
Sam and King Julien were messing around with the food.
"Oh, hey Kate, come check this out! King Julien, show her the thing," begged Sam.
King Julien smiled. There was a yellow banana in his smile that hid his teeth.
Kate rolled her eyes. "Haha. GUYS! I have the Multiversal Staff!"
Sam and King Julien looked at the Multiversal Staff.
"Wow! Nice work Kate," complimented Sam.
Oooooooo! King Julien grabbed the scroll from underneath his crown. "Under the law of King Julien, I am allowed to confiscate anything pretty and valuable for my secret treasure. I command you to gimme the staff!"
Kate ignored King Julien. "I'm going to use the Multiversal Staff now to send us all home."
"Okay! Well, it was nice knowing you guys," said Sam.
King Julien tried to grab the Multiversal Staff from Kate. But she kicked him, which caused King Julien to fly straight into a mannequin of Owen eating a tin can of beans. Boing! The impact caused the mannequin of Owen to collapse and fall apart into pieces.
"You fool! That's a crime!" yelled King Julien as slowly got up.
Kate closed her eyes. "I think I have to imagine everyone returning to the universes. Hopefully, I'm right."
Dark blue energy began to powerfully emit from the Multiversal Staff.
"I think it's working!" said Sam.
Suddenly, dark blue energy released from the Multiversal Staff. Nothing happened. Nobody appeared and Kate, Sam, and King Julien were all still there.
"We're still.. In this universe.." stammered Kate.
"Why didn't it work?" asked Sam.
"It's because I'm the rightful owner of the staff!" yelled King Julien. He started walking towards Kate and Sam, but he tripped over Owen's mannequin head. King Julien fell down on the ground.
Owen's mannequin head rolled into a tall lamp.
Whew! "I thought the tall lamp would fall and cause everything else to break and fall," said Sam.
"Why would you think that?" asked Kate.
"Because I touched everything by the entrance and the kitchen. I was worried my bad luck would cause everything to fall," said Sam.
Suddenly, the floor started to vibrate.
"EARTHQUAKE!" screamed Sam.
Kate, Sam, and King Julien quickly ran and crawled underneath a large dining table.
Bowls, plates, forks, knives, and spoons fell and shattered into pieces. All the food fell out of the refrigerator. Even the chairs fell too. Suddenly, the earthquake stopped.
"Oh no! My bad luck caused the earthquake, which destroyed everything in the mansion!" cried out Sam. "Chris is going to be so mad at me!"
"I thought that was the wrath of my ancestors," explained King Julien.
Kate, Sam, and King Julien slowly crawled from underneath the table and stood up.
"We should get out of here. Let's head to the cabins and figure out how to use the Multiversal Staff with the others," said Kate.
"Good idea! Let's go!" said Sam.
Suddenly, Chef ran into the room. He was holding a large potato sack in his hand. "TRESPASSERS!"
"Uh oh," murmured Sam.
Chef immediately grabbed King Julien and Sam with his strong hands. Then, he tossed them into the potato sack.
"NOOOOOOO!" yelled King Julien
Kate tried to run away but Chef grabbed her hair.
"OWWWW!" cried out Kate.
Chef pulled her into the potato sack too.
"Let us go!" said Sam.
"Hell nah! The three of you trespassed Chris' mansion! I ain't letting you go," said Chef.
Kate and Sam's large bodies were squishing King Julien's small body in the potato sack.
"I can't feel my butt!" said King Julien.
Suddenly, Chris walked into the room. He was still wearing his light blue pajamas. "What in the world is going on?!"
Chef pulled out the Multiversal Staff from the potato sack. "They tried stealing your staff!" He handed the staff back to Chris. "But we have bigger problems now."
"Bigger problems? MY BEAUTIFUL MANSION IS DESTROYED!! What could possibly be worse than this?!" asked Chris.
"A few minutes ago, the whole island was shaking! But it wasn't an earthquake. It was an army of men that shook the island" explained Chef.
"The Canadian army?" asked Chris.
"No, it was an army of men wearing red tracksuits!" clarified Chef.
Chris blinked a few times. "Huh?"
All of a sudden, a commercial break appeared…
