Rule number one of waking up in an anime: Think first and panic later. There's no use in acting like a weirdo when you could be in a world where weirdos get hanged, and you can cry all you want once you determine you're alone and safe.
Opening his eyes, a bright red haired boy frowned in disappointment when he saw nothing but the clear blue sky, with his limbs feeling stiff as though they hadn't budged in a while, and he wasted no time in picking himself up and he realised he was in an alleyway... one that had several rubbish bins in, and the smell made him crinkle his nose in disgust.
As an author of several fanfictions, he was very familiar with the idea, and even promised himself that he wouldn't panic like a bitch if it ever happened to him, so he wasn't about to go back on those words. He was very much fine it seemed. Disgusting, but fine.
Feeling his senses get overwhelmed, since apparently his new body was still acclimating to his new environment, he turned his eyes towards his arms... that had no hair, no pores, and no blemishes. It was as though an animator had decided it was too much trouble to add those finer details, so they were simply skipped over. It looked weird and he hated it already.
"Jesus Christ, why the hell am I a self insert that ends up in a trash filled alleyway? Couldn't you have had the decency to not throw me out to the bins like a cheap hooker?" He scoffed in distaste, speaking to no one in particular as he rummaged through the pockets on his black jeans and pulled out a weird case, which he decided to examine later. It held a wallet with no money in, thanks for not even leaving me a fiver god, and an ID with a very familiar name. One he'd given one of his own characters.
Jayce Blight... he was a real edgelord wasn't he?
"Okay so I've got a name, a really stupid one but a name to identify with legally, and a pack of cards. Maybe I'm in an anime that has something to do with... cards." Jayce finished, suddenly bringing the small box up to his faced when he remembered what anime 'Jayce Blight' was in, and he all but collapsed with relief when he saw what it was.
"It's forking Yugioh." Jayce grinned, only for his face to twist in confusion. "Fudge. Fluff. Floppy. Fu... Fuc... fickle- Fork! I can't fudging swear!" Jayce suddenly felt an immense urge to try out every swear word he could think of, to see if anything could slip by the censor that was placed on him, but instead chose to focus on the deck he held in his two hands.
Well, luckily for him it was a Branded deck. It lacked some key cards, like Mirrorjade The Iceblade Dragon and several hand traps just to name a few, but it was still a decent, if incomplete, deck which he could-
Jayce frowned when he pulled out a card from the end of the deck, with it being a bit thicker than the rest of the deck, and picked it out and examining it. He discovered that it was a message, one that seemed to explain his situation.
'Greetings Mr Blight, if you're reading this then you met your end in your original world. You have been inserted into the world of Yugioh Arc-V, do with that what you would. I've decided to be generous and give you the start to a deck, along with your three brothers in the other dimensions, but if you want to complete it then you'll need to make use of the powers I've granted you. You have the amazing ability to buy and sell cards, even being able to make them yourself but, like all good things in life, this doesn't come without a cost. Try and keep things entertaining for me, being a deity can be boring afterall, and do your best not to die. Toodles, sincerely your mysterious benefactor.'
Jayce found himself scowling as he pocketed the message. "Okay, well this is just cliché." He muttered to himself, digesting the knowledge he'd just received. He was in Yugioh Arc-V apparently, which wasn't too bad on it's own, but apparently he had special powers that let him get Yugioh cards... somehow?
Jayce felt some distaste at the idea, but he still closed his eyes regardless and... a screen popped up into his face.
He was caught between being amazed that he actually had a system that let him buy, sell, and make Yugioh cards, and deadpanning at how unoriginal this was, so he just ended up moving on as he looked at what he could do.
It looked like he had three separate options on the space bar at the bottom of the screen, much like Yugioh Duel Links, only they were labelled 'Sell', 'Cards', 'Buy', 'Create', and 'Skills'. Pretty straightforward if he did say so himself, but that was a good thing. It meant there was a lot less bullshit.
Mentally urging the screen to look through the 'Sell' icon, he was greeted by a screen that had all of his cards, which were thirty total, sorted by rarity open to sell. He had some Ultra Rare cards, like Masquerade the Blazing Dragon, that would go for thousands of DP but most were going for a about five hundred on average; if they were even worth that much.
He frowned as he scrolled down, noticing he only had one copy of Fallen of Albaz and Aluber the Jester of Despia, which was definitely not ideal for this deck. Regardless, if he was in the anime, it wouldn't be a problem that he didn't have a top tier deck that could crush everything, since Yugioh, most of the time, was a kids show and it was no fun to watch a hyper efficient deck crush everything in it's way.
Not wanting to sell anything yet, he moved on and selected the 'Cards' icon. It just held a single deck inside it, the incomplete Branded one, but it appeared to have endless options for more decks. Also, there was a search screen just to the right to manage all his cards, so if he wanted to edit any of his decks all he had to do was tap them and go from there.
Next was the 'Buy' option, which apparently was a card shop, only it was absolutely barebones at the moment. There were exactly three generic card packs, ones which held some staples amongst monsters, spells and traps, but nothing else. There was also a structure deck icon, but that was empty; at least for the moment.
Jayce narrowed his eyes as he tapped a search bar, looking up a specific card, and resisting the urge to wince away when he saw the result.
Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon - 100,000 DP.
He couldn't hide his disappointment, especially since a Branded deck should have two copies of Mirrorjade, however he did notice that Masquerade was a lot cheaper by comparison.
Masquerade the Blazing Dragon - 40,000 DP.
Jayce also noticed that a lot of cards he already owned were much cheaper than ones he didn't, so it must have been that they went down in price if he already owned them. Which was convenient, since if he pulled an Ultra Rare card like Ash Blossom he could buy extras.
Satisfied with himself, he flipped the screen over to 'Create' and found that the letter truly was honest that he could create cards. Looking over the rules, he learned that he could only make one card a day, but that was plenty enough for him. He wondered what disgustingly overpowered card he'd spit out using this cheat.
Deciding to investigate that later, he finally changed over to the last option on his bar. 'Skills' was actually a strange one, since it only had two options for what looked like advantages in duels.
(Plot Armour) - You have the god granted ability that every anime protagonist needs: the plot. You will never get a useless hand, the odds of you getting a bad hand are low, and the chances of getting a great hand are high. In moments of crisis, you will draw exactly what you need.
(Card Shifter) - You can organise the first five cards on top of your deck so that, even if they're shuffled, you will draw exactly what you want for the first five turns.
Jayce felt himself snort, since he'd just been given the powers of the plot, but after he stopped finding it funny the choice actually became difficult. He could only have one, and they were both overpowered, but after a few minutes he picked 'Plot Armour'. It was one sided, but he'd take any advantage he could get.
Finished setting himself up, he rose to his feet and realised he was still hanging around a trash filled alleyway, so Jayce began to leave with a deck in his pocket, wondering which dimension he was stuck in.
"Well, this place is a real shithole. I must be in the Synchro Dimension if the flying city was any indication. Whoopee, I'm sure looking forward to poverty... not." He sarcastically noted, looking above at the metropolis which lorded over him tauntingly, and pocketed his deck as he examined the settings of his card system, and briefly wondered why he felt a weird sense of deja vu.
Apparently his name was Jason Dark, a cringeworthy name he gave one of his main characters in a fanfiction, and he was dropped in Yugioh Arc-V! It was cool, don't get him wrong, but it was also really stupid and cliché! It sounded like something he'd write in one of his shitty fanfics!
Jason glared at the message, roughly shoving it in his pocket as he looked around and started to explore the scrapyard he'd landed in with his deck securely placed in his jacket's pocket as he ran a hand through his hair and grimaced. "Green hair, oh what did I do to deserve you? Whatever god put me in this dump must have really hated me to make my hair anime."
He suddenly halted on his advances, noticing something dug a bit in the scrap, and a feeling of elation emerged in his chest when he realised what it was and grabbed the duel disk with both hands, dusting it off slightly as he examined it's condition.
"Looks fine, some idiot even left a deck in here... I wonder-" Jason pulled the deck out, examining it and feeling disappointed that most of the cards were horrible, only to console himself that there was at least a Reinforcements of the Army in there, which would go well with his incomplete deck.
Taking that card out and placing it in his other deck, Jason quickly tapped the 'Sell' option on his screen and couldn't help but grin when he saw the option to sell a whole deck worth of cards. Selecting every card, save a select few he could find use for, Jayce sold them all and felt a sense of satisfaction as his DP shot up; not bothering to hide his amazement as the cards in his hand disintegrated into light that scattered to the winds.
DP: 24,700
Waving the screen off, Jason focused on the duel disk in his hands. It had more than a few noticeable dents on it, but when he tapped on it's screen it responded in kind and he smoothly slotted the device onto his arm, giving a small smile despite it's questionable condition. After a moment's hesitation, he took out his deck and slotted it in.
"Fits like a glove." He commented, carefully testing the security of his cards and was satisfied with the results. He still frowned though, since his deck was incomplete; so he couldn't duel anyone. With that Reinforcements of The Army he only needed nine more cards to complete his deck.
Summoning his system, he quickly looked up what he could get for another Junk Converter, since that was a card you wanted to run two or three of in a Junk deck, but scowled when he saw the price.
Junk Converter - 10,000 DP
Realising that it would take nearly half of his funds to buy a single card, Jason let out a groan. "God, buying specific cards is gonna be a pain in the art. Wait, ash, air, ate... oh sugar, I'm flippin' censored aren't I?"
Cursing the fact he couldn't swear, Jason decided to try and fill the vacant spots in his deck by going to the shop and opening a few packs. There were just three packs, and they wouldn't have any Junk monsters in them, but there had to be something of value if he bought a dozen or so. It would hardly put a dent in his account, especially since they only cost five hundred DP each.
Taking a seat on a nearby tyre, he sighed as he opened his first pack. "Time to pray to Christ that gacha doesn't fail me."
A black haired young man stood on top of a building, ranting to himself about the absurdity of his situation as a way of coping.
Crumpling the message up, he stuffed it in his pocket and and dragged a palm across his face in frustration. "God, it's so darn ironic that this is happening to me of all people. I'm the fluffing fanfiction writer for gods sake, I write about people who have this shin happen to them. And what kind of a skippy name is Jacob Doom?"
Jacob scrunched his face in distaste. "Oh sweet baby Jesus, I can't even swear can I? If god exists then he's a ponce... well, at least I can still say ponce." He tried to stay positive, checking out his system and raising his eyebrows in amusement.
"Well, this will be interesting. I'm like an isekai protagonist now, maybe I'll even end up having fifty girlfriends with zero personality." He laughed at the idea. As a man, having a lot of beautiful ladies in your life was the dream, but the idea was just too ridiculous and unrealistic; especially when there was far more to life than chasing after pretty girls.
Moving on from that thought, Jacob grinned when he examined his deck. Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon was looking back at him, in all it's holographic glory, and the fact he'll be able to duel using one of his favourite monsters made his blood boil with anticipation... only for that to falter when he realised it was incomplete. He might have received the outline of the deck, but if he wanted to complete it then that task would be on him.
Checking out the price of Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon, Jacob scowled when he saw it.
Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon: 120,000 DP
Seeing the ridiculous price of the card soured Jacob's mood thoroughly, and he felt scammed for a moment, before he took a deep breath and tore his eyes away from the screen and towards the giant heart shaped tower rising from the centre of the city. That meant the he was in the XYZ Dimension, and the fact everything was fine indicated that Academia's forces hadn't invaded yet.
Saving his thoughts for later, Jacob started to towards the building's exit as he tried to organise his thoughts and possible next moves. Whilst he didn't have his deck complete yet, he didn't doubt that it would be soon enough. Plus, whilst he didn't know the exact date Academia would invade, there had to have been a reason he was in xyz, right? Maybe he was here to help prepare duelists for the inevitable invasion?
Scratching his head of neon black hair, Jacob found himself wondering how he could prepare an army of duelists to fight the Fusion Dimension. Whilst he didn't have much experience with teaching, he doubted it was all that difficult. He knew Yugioh well, and the weaknesses of fusion summoning, so that would be easy to exploit.
As the idea circled in his head, Jacob found the idea more appealing by the minute. Whilst he didn't have a hero complex, he also didn't like the idea of a city of innocent people being turned into cards and thrown into a machine to power Leo Akaba's schemes. Besides, if he could help then didn't he sort of need to? That crap about people with power having responsibility and all that?
"Then again, I'm not spiderman. I can't shoot webs or punch people hard enough to crush their skulls. Instead, I have trading cards as a defence." Jacob noted, wondering how much danger he'd be putting himself in to help a group of strangers, only to shake his head. "I don't even need to get involved. I'll just hand out some strong cards, maybe give some pointers here and there, and make sure these people are prepared. I don't need to do more than that."
Realising he was muttering to himself, Jacob cut his musings short and made up his mind with a grin taking form on his face. He knew exactly what he was going to do, but first he needed to learn how this city worked, he couldn't exactly sell trading cards without learning a bit about the city first.
A teenage boy grumbled to himself as he wandered through the streets of a random city, muttering to himself loud enough to get the attention of a few people who passed him by, but they promptly went ignored as he began to plan his next move.
His name was apparently Joseph Dawn, which was assigned to him due to his terrible naming sense as a fanfiction writer, and all he had to his name was an incomplete Thunder Dragon deck and some bullshit isekai protagonist powers. He didn't even know what dimension he was in!
Joseph took a seat on a nearby bench, not caring that a woman and her son were already sat on it, before he opened up his system and began to scroll through his cards one by one and was thoroughly... disappointed with results. It was pure Thunder Dragon's for a start, so it lacked Batteryman Solar and Aloof Lupine, plus it only had a single copy of Thunder Dragon Titan. Without Colossus the deck was limited in it's capacity, and buying specific cards was much too expensive. Maybe if he unlocked a decent enough booster pack then-
"Excuse me, but shouldn't you be leaving for Academia recruitment right now? They'll be accepting new recruits in the centre of the city." The lady next spoke to him, looking concerned for some reason, only for him to realise that he was quite literally just staring into space blankly in this woman's eyes, since she couldn't see his system.
Joseph also noted how she said 'Academia' so he was definitely in the Fusion Dimension. "I'm not going to Academia, Ms, and I have no plans to." That was partly a lie, since he hadn't made any plans yet, but it could end up beingf true.
That sparked a surprisingly violent reaction out of her as she glared at Joseph with disapproval. "No teenager should be able to simply skip out on serving Academia. What are your parents doing to you?"
He blinked in befuddlement. "What the heck are you talking about?"
She looked at him as though she were disgusted, before grabbing her son's hand and walking away as though he were some weirdo; leaving him to sit down, perplexed on what she was talking about.
"What a birch." He muttered to himself, not even acknowledging the censor that had been placed on him, as he got up and began to walk in the opposite direction; having a strange feeling that his life was going to have a lot to with Yugioh from now on.
I was itching to write something on Yugioh, and this came to me for some reason. There will be four protagonists, which I've unoriginally named the J boys, and each of them will have their own things going on in their own dimension. Just a heads up, I've decided to organise the chapters in a way that I focus on two of these boys perspectives at a time. Also, I'm going to try and not make them too overpowered, at least when it first starts out.
