Linked to Destiny
Bonnie sat in the living room with Damon, Stefan, and Caroline after saying goodbye to Elena. The others had left shortly after, saying their goodbyes to her. They just couldn't stand to be there anymore, with Elena comatose just a few feet away.
The four occupants sat there in silence for a while. None of them knew what to say after what they'd just been through. Bonnie was devastated. Her best friend was suffering because of something she did. Elena had told her not to blame herself, but she couldn't help it. It was her fault. Kai went after Elena to hurt her.
Bonnie felt completely powerless, despite the fact that she was a powerful witch. She couldn't help her friend, and even if she tried, they might both die because of it. Still, how could she just sit there and do nothing? How could she let Elena continue to suffer because Bonnie had made an enemy out of Kai? There had to be something that could be done. Bonnie couldn't just accept the fact that Elena would stay in a coma until Bonnie's death. She couldn't let that happen.
Stefan suddenly stood up. "We should probably move her now."
"No," Bonnie said.
"Bonnie, we can't just keep her here. She has the cure in her. Once they find out, vampires will be coming for her," Stefan said. He knew none of them were ready to let Elena go, but they didn't have a choice. She was a sitting duck if they kept her there.
Bonnie shook her head. "No, we can't just give up on her. We have to find a way to break the spell."
"You heard what Kai said on that tape. If you try to break the spell, you'll both die," Damon said.
"We don't know that that's actually true. We can't trust anything Kai says. There's a good chance he was lying," Bonnie said.
"We're not taking that risk," Damon said firmly.
"Damon's right. It's too big of a gamble. What's happening now is awful, but Elena will wake up one day," Stefan said.
"Yeah, Bonnie. I know it sucks that you won't be there when she wakes up, but she'll be happy. She'll get the life she deserves," Caroline said.
"No, she won't. Assuming I live until old age, half of her friends will be dead by then. Jeremy might be dead by then. The world she'll wake up in will be a lot different than the world she went to sleep in. That's not the life she deserves. The life she deserves is the human life she was going to have with Damon. She deserves to watch her brother have happy life. She deserves to be with her friends," Bonnie said. She was close to tears at this point.
"I know, but there's nothing we can do. Even if Kai didn't protect the spell with magic, you don't know how to break it," Caroline said as gently as she could.
"I don't, but there are more witches, more powerful witches. Somebody has to know how to break it," Bonnie said.
"Yeah, and do you know who any of those witches are? Not that it matters, because we're not doing it. We're not risking Elena's life," Damon said. He hated that the love of his life was lost to him at the moment, but he would be damned if he allowed anyone to risk her not coming back.
"No, but we know people who probably do. We know vampires who have been alive for a thousand years. They must know many powerful witches," Bonnie said.
"You wanna call Klaus?" Caroline asked. That was an interesting idea. Klaus would probably help if she asked. Still, it didn't eliminate the risk to Elena if they tried to revive her.
Bonnie shook her head. She definitely didn't want to get Klaus involved. "No, not Klaus. I wouldn't trust him or any which he recommended. In fact. I don't trust any of the originals, but Elena trusted one of them."
"Elijah. You wanna call Elijah," Stefan realized.
"No. The last time Elena trusted him, he threatened to kill her," Damon said.
"Because he was trying to protect himself and his family. None of us would have done any different. Plus, Elena said he wrote her to apologize afterwards," Caroline said.
Damon shook his head. "No, we're not involving him. We're not involving anyone. If we try to reverse the spell, both Elena and Bonnie could die. We're not taking that risk."
"Maybe we should take this one step at a time. Look, we don't have to make a decision about letting a witch try to reverse the spell right now. We don't even know if it can be reversed. But it won't hurt to try to find out. We could find a witch that might be capable of reversing the spell. if we can do that, maybe the witch can even reverse the curse Kai put on it. It can't hurt to try to find out," Stefan said. It was worth at least trying to find out if it was possible to break the spell. They couldn't just give up without exhausting all their options.
Damon thought about it for a minute before nodding. "Fine, but no one's doing anything to her until I'm given a guarantee that nothing will happen to her."
Bonnie took out her phone and prepared to call Elijah.

Elijah was heading towards the kitchen. He was not in the best mode. He had just gotten off the phone with Bonnie Bennett, who told a very disturbing tale. Elena Gilbert was in a coma because of a disturbing young witch. Elijah had not at all been happy to hear that. He cared very much for Elena. She was a wonderful young woman who only cared about helping her friends and family. Elijah wanted to murder the witch that did this, but Bonnie informed him that Damon Salvatore had beaten him to the punch. Now all he could do was try to find a way to fix it.
When Elijah got to the kitchen, he found Niklaus and Freya already seated at the table eating breakfast.
"Morning, brother. Come to join us for breakfast this morning?" Klaus asked.
Elijah ignored his brother. He hadn't been on speaking terms with him since Niklaus had cursed Hayley and he had no intention of breaking that rift anytime soon. Instead, he turned his attention to Freya. "Sister, I need a favor. Have you ever heard of the Gemini coven?"
Freya's eyes darkened at her brother's question. Yes, she'd heard of them. They had been around for centuries, and she'd come across one of them while she was awake for a year about a century ago. "why are you bringing up those Barbarians while I am trying to eat? The Gemini Coven may even be more twisted than our aunt was. They sacrifice one of their twin children in a quest for power. If I could, I would eradicate all of them."
"Well, you'll be happy to know that you no longer need to. They were all killed recently. Their last leader apparently had psychopathic tendencies. He murdered them all, but not before cursing a friend of mine," Elijah said.
Klaus raised an eyebrow. "Really? And what friend would that be, brother?"
"Cursed her how?" Freya asked.
"He put her in a coma. He linked her life to a witch friend of hers. He made it so that she would not awaken until her friend died," Elijah told Freya.
"And you want me to break the curse," Freya surmised. She could only guess that was the favor Elijah wanted. She didn't think it would be too much of a problem. The Gemini Coven was powerful, but so was she.
"It may not be so simple. I'm told there is another curse in place. If a witch tries to break the spell. Both women will die. I'm hoping you can first break that curse, if it even exists," Elijah said.
"Who is this friend you're talking about?" Klaus asked.
"Elena Gilbert."
Klaus chuckled. "That girl always manages to find trouble."
"Usually because of you," Elijah said coolly.
"Wait, Elena is a vampire. How could this even happen?" Klaus asked.
Elijah sat down across from Freya. "She's not a vampire anymore. She got her hands on the cure." He had been shocked to find that out. The last time he saw Elena, she was far from human. The last time he saw her, she didn't even have her humanity on. Apparently much had changed since then.
Klaus slowly began to smile, seeing the advantage this had for him. "Well, we must help her then."
Elijah glared at his brother. "You will not be using this girl for your own personal blood bank! you have done enough damage to her!"
Freya looked between her two brothers. "Well, there's obviously some history between you two and this girl."
Elijah nodded and filled her in on the history between them and Elena. He told her everything about the sacrifice and all Elena had lost because of their family.
Freya shook her head at Klaus. "You really need to learn better social skills."
Klaus shrugged. "It wasn't anything personal. if anyone's to blame, it's our mother."
Freya turned her attention back to Elijah. "I will need to see the girl and the witch before I know if I can help. I will need to examine them both and find out exactly what was done to them."
Elijah nodded. "They are already on their way. I hope you won't find me too presumptuous, sister, but I was sure you would help."
"I'll do everything I can. No one deserves to have something like that done to them," Freya said. What was done to her was very similar. She wouldn't wish losing so much of her life on anyone.
"Thank you. They should be here in several hours," Elijah said before standing up. He could only pray that Freya would be successful. The thought of anything happening to Elena made his heart ache.
